Put In Perspective

Hi,
Occassionally, someone here points out that the 'horror stories' posted here are a very small percentage of Infinity installs...my experience supports that!
I'm in the third week since Infinity installation and it's been stable and consistent at 37.5 Mbps download.  The engineer was professional, precise and informative...I've got no complaints.
As far as I know there's nothing special about my line, location or equipment.  In fact, we are around 5 Kms from the exchange and about 500 metres from the cabinet...I might have expected a lesser service!  In addition to that I connect using wifi, which provides and good service through several thick stone walls!!
I will admit to one issue with wifi...since the Infinity instal, streaming films from my laptop in another room, via Apple TV to the Sony television, is interrupted a couple of times during a full length film!  I have re-share the file in iTunes to recover the link...any suggestions to correct that would be welcomed.

My experience so far supports that firstly, for the average person who has a problem with BT, trying to solve it is difficult. Secondly, the BT website is built to avoid any form of contact by e-mail or web mail and therefore the people who do eventually find the forum may be a "very small percentage". The telephone system.....press 1 for phones, 2 for broadband......2 minutes later...to speed up our process please enter your account number, then when you do eventually get through you have to repeat it all again, if you get through to the wrong person you have to repeat it further.
I have read that the forums are for home users and advice is given by non employees i.e. contributors......I therefore assume that the sweeping statement "a very small percentage" which must come from statisics somewhere in BT and would therefore come from an employee from the statistical department. If not it's just conjecture or heresay and not substantiated.
Your streaming issue may not be connected to the install, but instead to the speed which is now available. Alternatively your laptop is snoozing....unlikely as it sounds as if it was ok previously.

  • How to set a perspective to a page ?

    Hi.
    I already know how to set a perspective for an item but I didn't find how to do this for a whole page.
    Does somebody knows how to do that ?
    Thanks
    Donald

    That would be a great place to put the Perspective, but I only found the Category.
    However there's the Pages and the Items tabs in a Perspective page.
    I really don't know where they put this...

  • Perspective in illustrator

    I have a vector file of a shape that needs to be put in perspective according to the jpeg i received on the right.
    This seemed so simple to me until tried to match the correct perspective...
    I tried guessing with the 3D tool but 160° perspective is the limit and doesn't seem enough.
    I tried with the free transform tool by cmd-dragging the corners of the shape to guideliines i drawed on the jpeg, but illustrator resets the bounding box to a rectangle after releasing the mousebutton. It's possible this way, but hard to get it right.
    I tried with an enveloppe but that doesn't do perspective.
    Is there another (simple!) way to do this in illustrator?

    No Doubt about it if you have a clean vector art them bring it into Photoshop s a shape layer or Path if you wish and use the Transform tool as the Distort option. Drag the corners to match the perspective lines on the Illustration and tweak it.
    This is a live trace s it is not real accurate but it shows what you can get in ten seconds in Photoshop. I t would be great if Illustrator had a perspective feature but as that feature request has been around for as long as AI exists I would not hold my breath on it and in this case I am not sure such a feature would help but a real distortion tool would.
    There is one in Illustrator that can do this but as it has no live preview on the artboard it makes things more difficult rather than easier.
    In Photoshop this is simple the path from photoshop can then be pasted into Illustrator and filled with a color as I did.

  • Love the X2 except for 3 main issues which I need help or clarification with

    Hi Everyone, I have pretty much copied and pasted my post from the Motorola forums (with a few minor edits) over here as I do need a little bit of help or insight on my issue.
    I have scoured through the Droid X section trying to find solutions to my problems and I haven't been able to get a solid answer anywhere (here or on other Android/X2 forums).
    I have an X2. I really like this phone. It is solid and has crystal clear sound quality. However, ever since I have had it I have seen intermittent issues pop up and I would like to get some feedback on them or get things put into perspective that it is a known glitch in the interface between the Android OS and the hardware. I bought the phone at Best Buy and every time I bring it in (either back to Best Buy or a Verizon store), as the issue is intermittent, they won't replace the phone. The people at Best Buy have told me to "do a battery pull every morning" which completely offends me as I never had to do anything so drastic with my original Droid until it finally decided to reboot on me every 2 hours (this is when I upgraded to the X2). I had to pick it up from Best Buy as I needed a functional phone immediately and no Verizon store in the area had the X2 in stock.
    The first (and most important issue)... Every once in a while, even though I have full signal, when somebody calls me, my phone will not ring or vibrate. It will ring the full six times on their end but does not show up on my phone as ever receiving or missing the call. After the six rings on their end, it goes to voicemail and after they leave the message, only the voicemail indicator shows up. Over the past month this has happened multiple times (once or twice a week). Those who don't leave messages have had to hunt me down because they thought I had left my phone elsewhere as it never rang or notified me of an incoming call.
    The next two issues are still important to me but they are more of an inconvenience than anything else.
    Sometimes (yes, this is intermittent too but it happens daily), when I wake my phone from sleep, all of the antennas seem to be off and it takes a good second or two to show back up in the status bar (3G, Bluetooth, etc). My question is, have all of the non-CDMA antennas "gone to sleep"? The signal bar for the actual cell service are still there, just not the other services (3G/1X) or wireless settings (Bluetooth/WiFi) for a couple seconds.
    Lastly (and this may be a direct link to the previous question), when I use the "Google Talk" application, the messages I send go through very quickly, but sometimes I do not get replies for a long time after they are sent (30 minutes to and hour later). If I wake the phone, sometimes a previously sent message will come through, and when I check the chat log in Gmail itself, the message was sent from quite a while back (15 minutes to an hour).
    I know I am brand new to your community, and I am sorry to have to burden you all with a post like this as my initial post. However, I have always liked and used Motorola phones with Verizon/GTE (all the way back to the MicroTAC series of the early 90s) without issues or incidents for the most part. As my original Droid was starting to act up I decided to jump on the X2 as it was just released. I understood that it was not going to initially come with Gingerbread and I said I would be patient for the update to come and hopefully it would bring a new level to the phone itself as well as solve some (if not all) of the issues. However, now that it is past my return date, and there is no update as of yet, I do require assistance.
    Thanks in advance for any assistance or insight,
    Tuan

    Thanks for the replies everyone.
    The responses I received over at the Moto forums said the same thing about the battery saver mode. However, I have had the same issue with the radios shutting off during the day while it is in "Nighttime savings mode" so I'm just thinking it's an oddball glitch with the phone's power management settings and clock. I have recently changed the battery mode to "Performance Mode" from Nighttime Savings" as I have the phone plugged into the charger at night anyways. I'm hoping that will take care of both my radio and gtalk issues.
    @Wildman: I have heard the same thing about the GB update from a Verizon rep very recently myself. I am still going to hope for an update sometime in the near future, but I do recall the first update for my Original Droid was months down the line from the release day.
    @Droiddude: Are you just cycling the power? Or are you actually doing physical battery pulls? If cycling the power works for you it would lessen the burden of pulling that Incipio case (Verizon Double Cover) off my phone every time to do battery pulls. It's a great case but wow it's a tight/snug fit.
    @vereyezuhn: I understand that there are possible dead areas in which my main issue may occur. I even have a prepaid phone for the times I am in a Verizon dead zone. However, when my issue occurs, I will be in the same spot for a while. I will receive all my calls, miss one in the manner I have spoken, then receive the following calls normally (SMS/MMS does not seem to be affected either as I seem to receive all of those). This is why I have this specific issue. I have recently cleared the phone's cache partition as well as update the PRL using *228 option 2. We will see over time if this eliminates the issue or at least makes it much more rare.

  • AppleTV + NAS = :-(

    Bought a DLINK DNS-323 NAS storage device (which claims to have a built-in iTunes & UPnP AV Server). AppleTV does not recognize the device on the network and it cannot be paired with AppleTV. (Just thoought I'd put that out there for the Google search enginge)
    Also, just mounting the NAS drive/Volume on my Mac and trying to serve up movies through iTunes 7.4.x doesn't work. It comlains about not being able to read the file (which is most likely a misreported error due to excessive latency).
    Basically, what I'm say to Apple is, put in a software upgrade so I can mount external NAS drives without having to hack the ATV. FYI. I don't care about voiding a warranty on a $300 piece of electronics that can barely be used at this point. I shouldn't have to bootup my computer every time I want to watch a movie.

    Actually, I'm saying more than that.
     doesn't support what you are trying to do so far as your original intentions are concerned. If I was abrupt it is because you took the initial stance that this was something that  should support despite them saying they don't, just because you went ahead with your purchase despite their advice.
    If you are having problems using your NAS in conjunction with a properly installed itunes, then this is another issue, but you are unlikely to get a much better response while you continue to make unsupported statements about lame software and abuse those that are trying to help you.
    As confirmed by another poster NAS works perfectly well as a network drive for a library associated with itunes in a supported location, you clearly have other issues which are nothing to do with itunes or the tv, blaming something entirely unrelated just irritates most of us on these forums and tends to illustrate a lack of judgement when matters are put into perspective.

  • Ok to leave the macbook on 24/7?

    Is it damaging to leave the computer on all the time or nearly all the time? I'm constantly wanting to leave my computer on overnight to leave it doing tasks and stuff, but I've always used a desktop in the past. With my desktop, I've never felt uncomfotable leaving it on all the time. Is it ok to do the same with the macbook, provided that it's left on a desk?

    The only real concern about leaving a computer on all the time would be that it is relatively taxing on the lifetime of the cpu (the higher the temperature and the longer the cpu is run the shorter it will last). When put in perspective however this is a pretty insignificant concern for a few reasons. First of all I really doubt we are going to be worrying about a cpu frying in 10 years from now. Second of all mobile processors are made from the creme of the silicon crop with less impurities and much higher tolerances for heat. For this reason the relatively high temperatures (60-70c) that a macbook can experience at low usage levels shouldn't really put the cpu at any heightened risk. You should be fine leaving it on all the time even though "technically" it won't neccesarily last as long it will last plenty long enough.

  • Poor Picture Quality in iMovie Which USB Camcorder Will Work and Which Won'

    Dear Colleagues,
    I continue to read accounts by readers regarding iMovie 98 havinga poor image quality when sharing to iDVD. It has been suggested that users with non-High Definition camcorders, standard DV8 camcorders such as my Sony DCR-TRV315, are stretching the Movie to far when using the Large and Medium setting for sharing ing to iDVD and other media.
    If this is the case, what pixel size should I use when sharing to iDVD. I had understood that 720X480 was the standard format for non-High Definition Digital 8 Camcorders. So what correct pixel ratio should I use for DVD playback on a wide-screen HDTV with non-HD recordings.
    I am planning to purchase a Sony USB camcorder and I continue to hear reports that they and other brands of USB camcorders won't work with iMovie 08. Is this simply a new user not fully understanding how his new camcorder works?
    If this is not the case, how can one determine which USB camcorders are compatible with iMovie 08?
    Please get back to me soon.
    Best regards,
    Robert O. Cobb
    aka The Clemmons Kid

    A great deal has been said about im08 degrading interlaced video, to qualify the matter im08 resorts to progressive video depending on the capabilities of your mac, I for example can achieve full quality 1080i exports.
    Additionally the matter has to be put into perspective. Of course a source video looks clearer on a mac if it is displayed in it's original interlaced format on a frame by frame basis, but this isn't how one would watch video. interlaced video looks dreadful on a computer monitor and needs to be de-interlaced to be watched, additionally you would never watch a video frame by frame and so comparing video in this way is somewhat pointless. There is a quality difference on some macs but if the video is compared in a realistic way the difference is quite small and often unnoticeable.
    720 x 480 as you likely realise uses non square pixels which will be converted to square pixels for your AVC exports in im08, to maintain the aspect ratio of the pixels you should export to DV.
    There are a list of supported cameras here, but of course there are many that are not in this list that do work. If you select a camera, post to see if anyone has had any compatibility issues, but as you seem to be aware a number of apparent issues are as a result of user errors rather than incompatibility.

  • Trig etc functions on fractions?

    Fraction.java with trig methods?
    I've been playing with geospatial stuff for a while now, and I've been striking a lot of problems with the inherent inaccuracies of floating point number representations, especially in complex-calculated values.
    Here's a simple but pertinent example:
    class TheSumOfSevenSevethsIsNotOne
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        double f = 1.0/7.0;
        double sum = 0.0;
        for (int i=0; i<7; i++) {
          sum += f;
        System.out.println("sum = "+sum);
    // OUTPUT:
    // sum = 0.9999999999999998
    // not 1 as you might expectThe numbers I'm storing are latitudes and longitudes in degrees, so the max_value is just 360, but the requirement is that lat/lon must be accurate to 9 decimal places, which equates to about +/- 0.6 millimetres, which is (apparently) close enough to be regarded as "millimetre accuracy" by cartographers, even though total ambiguity is 1.2 mm.
    So three digits, plus six digits, is only nine digits, right?... and the humble int can store a tad more than 9 digits...
                                     123.123 456
    Integer.MAX_VALUE = (2^31)-1 = 2,147,483,647So I got to thinking... How would it be if I stored all lat/lons in the database as integers (multiplied by a million)? and did all my calculations rounded (not truncated) to the nearest 1. I could even save a few hundred million bytes that way... But that still leaves the same ole ambiguity around the actual calculations, many of which involve division ;-(.
    So I got to thinking maybe I could use fractions? How would a Fraction.java look?
    I googled around and found some great stuff, including:<ul>
    <li>[Diane Kramers Fraction.java|http://aleph0.clarku.edu/~djoyce/cs101/Resources/Fraction.java]
    <li>[Working with Fractions in Java|http://www.merriampark.com/fractions.htm] (includes BigFraction.java - very handy)
    <li>[Doug Leas Fraction.java|http://gee.cs.oswego.edu/dl/classes/EDU/oswego/cs/dl/util/concurrent/misc/Fraction.java]
    </ul>
    But I haven't found anything which implements the basic trigonometry functions like sin, cos, tan, cot (and whatever else)... but [Daves Short Trig Course|http://www.clarku.edu/~djoyce/trig/] might give me the understanding required to do so... nor does any existing Fraction.java (which I've found so far) implement handy things like x^y, log, modulo (and whatever else) ... and not being a mathematician myself, I'm not overly eager to implement them... I'd never be sure I'd done the job properly.
    Please is anyone aware of any such implementations, even partial ones? Or could someone perhaps be persuaded to do part(s) of it just for the challenge?
    Cheers all. Keith.

    Sir Turing Pest,
    I do geospatial stuff amost exclusively and I dont understand this post.
    Why not just use doubles? The "error" you're seeing is so trivial.
    Put into perspective, if you were positioning something from the
    Sun to Pluto you'd be off by half a millimeter.
    How do you figure that you only need 9 digits?
    ignore 360 degrees. the circumference of the earth is 41k km and you need
    accuracy to .6 mm = 11 places
    (40 075.02 kilometers) / (.5 millimeters) = 80,150,040,000I didn't figure it, our local GIS expert did, based mainly on the size of an integer,
    When I do the math I get to 9 decimal places == about 1.11 mm, and that's allways rounded (not truncated) to 9 decimal places which I think means our points are accurate to plus or minus about 0.6 mm.... but I'm just a humble computer programmer, NOT a mathemetician or a geospatial expert.
    We're storing lat/lon to 9 decimal places... So 1 is 1 degree.
                   40,075.160000000     kilometers     circumference of the earth
    equals     40,075,160.000000000     meters        circumference of the earth
    equals        111,319.888888889     meters        meters per degree at the equator
    equals              0.000000001     degrees         storage accurracy
    equals              0.000111320     meters
    equals              1.113198889     millemeters     storage accurracy in millimeters
    So sure you established that aggregate double addition comes out "wrong".
    Then dont do it, lol. Dont waste your time trying to invent new number
    storage. Just try to write your algorithms so you don't do aggregate addition as much.We try not to aggregate calculated values... but there are certain algorithms, like the reverse/mercator transforms where it's unavoidable... So opportunities for improvement is this area a likely to be NOT very cost effective, ie: bigger than Ben Hur, harder than a bulls azz, and uglier than an extreme closeup of my scotum... My main concern has been (rightly or wrongly) the inherent inaccuracy in our storage of numbers.... thinking that improvements in this area just might be cost-effective, and therefore doable.
    Iterestingly... we had a tree-clearing case kicked out of court recenctly because we couldn't define the boundaries of the national park in question to the satisfaction of the court... a "satisfaction level" which was based on our own "millimeter accuracy" definition of the required accuracy of survey data, which is based on international standards for GIS. ie: It's a bit of sore spot around the office at the moment, and I'm trying to do some bluddy thing about it... I'm just at a bit of a loss as to exactly what, without throwing literally millions of dollars at the problem to upgrade ALL our systems to 11 decimal places (or better). I'm in stress city.
    Cheers. Keith.

  • 10.4.6 running fine

    Just a bit of FYI...
    I was hesitant to install the update on my Powerbook after reading all the trouble people were having with it. I mustered up the courage, and did some prep work:
    Repaired permissions
    Rebuilt directory wih Disk Warrior
    Downloaded the Combo update, and the installation went smoothly! All systems are fine.
    My advice, install the update into a clean environment, and you should have no problems. BTW, startup hasn't been this fast in quite a while!
    Good luck!
    15 Aluminum Powerbook G4 1.67 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    I installed 10.4.6 just last Thursday and everything has been fine. Like each Tiger update my system has gotten faster each time. I've rarely had any problems with updates but I always Repair Permissions before and after, although I've never once remembered to unplug peripherals.
    All the complaints in here need to be put in perspective. This is the complaint place. For everyone here with a problem there has to a hundred others with no problem at all. Reading in here can give someone a warped impression of OSX, that's it's riddled with problems and each update is dangerous. That simply isn't true but a small percentage will have problems no matter how good a product is, nothing we humans do is ever 100%.
    With that said, I did have a weird occurrence with this update. Everything went fine, I used Disk Warrior first which I rarely do, and ran Cocktail too. On restart from the download it got stuck on the gray screen with the spinning gear for a bit longer than normal. Suddenly, the screen went black and I got the startup bong. Nothing had been touched by me, it did this all by itself. It then went through the normal startup process and no problems since.
    I'm assuming the auto restart is not a part of 10.4.6 but I'm wondering why that happened. Is it some kind of hidden feature I don't know about?

  • Samples for creating a calibration grid with supplied points. Not a Grid graphic

    Hi again.
    I have a desire to create a calibration grid for my images captured with IMAQ methods from Measurement Studio.
    I already take measurements and such based on a calibrated Grid from a .jpg. But now I am interested in allowing my user to create a calibration grid on the fly based on selecting points in a template image and supplying real world values.
    The manual section 6 on grid calibration makes some reference to the CWIMAQVision.LearnCalibrationPoints method. But little information is supplied.  Does NI have a sample of a "Create your grid from points" sort of idea?
    As I would also like to be able to define this grid with points, and then put a perspective on it.
    Looks like it should be able to be achieved.
    Thanks

    it's ok, I figured it out.
    just using Flash builder 4.5 grid containers

  • Help me find it

    I'm trying to find a way to find my stolen iPads serial number through my library or in iTunes cause the GPS feature is tured off now. I bought in in Afghanistan while on deployment and it was stole as soon as I returned, please help me!!! Thanks

    Even with the serial number, you won't be able to track. My IPad was stolen
    I have the receipt, the box, and a box of tissues to dab my tears because it cannot be
    Tracked by any method. Maybe some new app has been released since last month,
    And it's not quite so lost.  If you have renters insurance or homeowners insurance,
    They might accept a claim, but don't hope for too much. They don't make money
    Paying claims.  I understand, it's totally bootsy.  I bought a new one, and I'm making payments
    On the stolen iPad, too.  It was all put in perspective when my car was stolen in July....
    Thank you for your service, on behalf of the nation, I apologize about your iPad's theft.

  • MSI GS60 Slow WiFi

    I have seen a lot of posts about WiFi drop-outs and other WiFi related issues with GS60 and Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260, but I have yet not seen any post about WiFi being very slow. So my problem is that I have to almost sit next to router to get decent download speed, if I move any further download speed decreases exponentially. Here are some test results done with 100MB internet connection and tested with Speedtest.net:
    Next to Router = ~70mb/s
    1m away from router = ~50mb/s
    5m away from router = ~11mb/s
    10m away from router = ~3mb/s
    There were no obstacles between router and laptop (no doors, no walls, nothing). Also tests were performed on multiple routers in different locations.
    I have updated my wireless drivers, and even tried fix mentioned in other forum.
    I want to know if this is hardware issue, or is it just driver issue, because I have to take the laptop to be repaired as soon as possible and I don't want my brand new laptop to go to repair unless I'm sure that it is a hardware issue.
    Anyone else had similar problem?

    Can you see what your link quality looks like in the Intel ProSet utility? This might help put into perspective what the issue is, because maybe there is a ton of interference and causing drop-out of the actual packets being transmitted which would incur with it a speed problem.

  • Slow burn vs Fast burn (which is better quality) fact or fiction

    Ok again I would like to know the official answer to this question because from the response last time, I'm not really confidence with the answer.
    IS IT FACT THAT IF YOU USE WAV BURNER AND BURN AT A SLOWER SPEED COMPARED TO FASTER SPEED THE QUALITY BECOMES BETTER BY PROOF?
    IF THIS FACT OR FICTION.
    SOMEONE PLEASE PROVIDE SOME LONG YEARS EXPERIENCE PROOF.

    Sorry, can't wait until someone clocks what I've said, 'cos I might be going out soon, so thought I'd write it up first...
    The difference between the HHB and the Mac burner is... nothing much. The actual tray and laser workings are probably the same in both units. The extra dosh for the HHB covers the casing, functionality and the convertors - it's basically a hardware version of WaveBurner, and we all know hardware versions cost more than software versions.
    Therefore, in my alleged test there should only be one of the four that shows any difference, and that's the real time recording via analogue. The other three, all remaining in the digital domain, irrespective of speed, should give the same results, because data is encoded in the same way, no matter how you do it. It would be interesting to see if there is any difference, but I doubt the equipment I've got would be sensitive enough to monitor it (or would allow me to zoom in and see the difference enough to post here). With that in mind, the human ear isn't going to hear it.
    The only REAL difference the speed option gives you is reliability of burning. The faster you get, the more prone it is of making an error in the burning process, but this can sometimes come down to the quality of the disc itself. Not all discs are the same, as I guess most people have realised to their horror at some point (data).
    Just a final note. I'm working with a voice-over artist for TV and radio, and the stations are happy to receive the files as MP3's via email. Who'd have thought that would happen when MP3 came out?!? Just goes to show people are putting a perspective on the quality standard for final use. But I'm still sending AIFF files though, MP3 makes me shudder as an original! And here we are worrying about CD quality...

    To put some perspective on those numbers, here are the 10 most active
    public forums in terms of total messages:

    Photoshop Lightroom       108742

    Overall, over 50% of total messages in the public forums is in forums
    dedicated to a Macromedia based technology. If we then take into
    consideration the messages that are in general forums like this one
    (almost 1% of total messages is in this forum) or in language based
    forums (Spanish etc.) or for products released after the merger, the
    percentage of messages about "old school" Adobe products is a clear
    minority.
    Which means what exactly?  That the "old school" product forums are less important because their numbers are down?  Perhaps the numbers are down due to the software and all of the folks who left in disgust.
