Put iPod in disc mode -- unplugged it??

I plugged my ipod in to my computer in disk mode, to charge and i was loading...so then I left it while it was charging...came back about an hour later and computer was asleep so I unplugged my ipod to see if it was charged...thing was i forgot to eject it..so its locked up! HELP PLZ!!!

If you format iPod on Mac your iPod disk will save in Macintosh format and it will only use in Mac not for Windows (except you install some application to make Windows understand Mac OS X filesystem). But if you format in Windows (restore in iTunes on Windows) then you can use on both Mac and Windows.

  • HELP! iPod Classic has "X" with a circle around it, and i cant put it in disc mode

Hello.... the iPod classic doesnt work anymore due to a "x with a circle around it". I tried putting it in disc mode and it wont come up on my computer screen and when I try to reset it, it still comes up with the "X" on the screen. I cant see the menu on it, and It wont work at all...
    Please HELP!

The RED X most likely indicate that your iPod hardisk is dying soon or already dead, the only solution is to have the Hardisk replaced, either by Apple or 3rd Party service vendor.
Some people have some luck, but banging the iPod on the rubber mouse pad, like myself, but after recovery, it only last above another 3 months, before the final RED X, when I got the hardisk replaced.
To check you hardisk health, read this earlier, excellent post from tt2, although it wont fix the RED X, it does gives you some idea, of whether to sent it in or make it an expensive paperweight.

  • Is it possible to load music onto an iPod in Disc Mode?

    Hi guys,
Is it possible to load music onto an iPod in Disc Mode?
I recently sold my 5th Gen 30Gb iPod on eBay, about a week later the buyer sent it back claiming it was faulty, he could not switch it on etc etc...
Within a few minutes I had it running again, but was making a clicking sound. So I put it into disc mode, connected it to my G4 and found out that the seller had managed to change the name of the iPod, delete some of my music, load some of their music onto the iPod and play that music.
My question is would they have been able to do all that in disc mode? Or would the iPod have to have been fully functional? Let alone using third party software to extract my songs that were already on the iPod.
I think they received a perfectly working iPod, used it, damaged it, were unable to fix it (couldn't be bothered to find out how) and so sent it back claiming it was faulty all along.
Thanks for any help and advice anyone can give.
    Alex

    Thanks, I realise that now.
It turns out that the buyer reformatted the iPod for Windows.
Would they have been able to do that in Disc Mode?
Or would the iPod have to have been fully functional?
I'm trying to prove that the iPod was indeed fully functional when they received it, because they were able to reformat it, rename it, delete some of my music and load some of their own music.

I have put Ipod in restore mode and about 1/2 way through download it goes back to message "disabled type in passcode" ?? I have turned off all security and tried all trouble shooting ideas, any suggestions?? besides paying $$$$ to apple tech support

What appears to be happensin is that before the actual download finishes/restore starts. the recovery mode is timing out. I would do a manual download using the instructions here:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Then place the iPod in Recovery mode and restore using the instructions in the link.

  • IPod in disc mode error

    Hi folks:
I'm having a problem that I've never encountered before. When I connect my click wheel iPod (4th gen, I think. Not color, 40gig but issued after that 4 button model) to my PowerBook, it doesn't show up as a disk like it was. If I go to system profiler it's there, and when I ran disk repair I rec'd the following message: keys out of order, volume needs to be repaired, volume check failed Error: the underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972).
Does anyone know how to fix this, if possible? I tried putting the pod into disk mode first, but that came up with the same results. Ditto with using a different PB, and with logging on as a different user) Oh, and the music still plays just fine...it's just the darn disk mode isn't working.

Try and force iPod into Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPod
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

  • Restoring an iPod in Disc Mode

If I restore my iPod while it is in "disc mode". Will all my music still be erased? I do not have a back up for all my files on my pc. and I apparently need to restore it.

I didn't look at the article before. I just did now. It was not related to the question.
You're both thinking of "Disk Use". Similar name, different feature. Look at this article for details:

  • How do I put ipod in recovery mode?

I am locked out of my IPOD touch as my kids put a passcode on it and now I have to connect it to I tunes but I dont understand this all

Options for when an iOS device gets locked because of forgotten passcode:
Restore (and reset passcode) on your device by connecting it to the last computer to which it was connected:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414  ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread" - A restore erases the iPod. If you restore from backup the iPod will be like it was IF the iTunes library includeds all the synced media like apps and music since those are not included in the backup.")
If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected (or the device was never connected to a computer) you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:
iOS: Unable to update or restore - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 - recovery mode (e.g., cannot connect to computer last used to sync device, iTunes still asks for a password)
