Put Itunes Songs in Time Capsule

anyone using Time Capsule for the main source of their songs storage on Time Capsule?
recommended?
how to do?
any advice.
currently only using 150 GB of 1 TB for backup and want to use some more of the avail space for say songs that itunes can play.

I'm using an external drive with an AEBS which is just about the same thing. Mount the TC drive on your computer, create a folder on the drive called Music (or whatever you like), and start iTunes. In the iTunes preferences, tab to Advanced and set the iTunes default folder to the folder you created on the TC drive. Make sure you have the item *Keep iTunes folder organized* checked. (It is right beneath the default folder selector in the advanced tab. Now close the preferences window. Under the Advanced menu item, select *Consolidate Library*. These steps will copy your music to the TC drive and make that drive your default location for music so everything you add to iTunes will be located there.
Now walk away for a while. Depending on the size of your music library and how fast a connection you have, this could take a while...a long while.

  • HT1449 Can I move my iTunes library onto Time Capsule and share it across my devices (similar to a NAS drive)?

    Hi
Would anyone know if I can I move my iTunes library onto Time Capsule and share it across my devices (similar to a NAS drive)?
This would give me some hard drive space on my iMac and more importantly mean my iTunes library is available all the time. Although I have Home sharing I need my iMac on and if not I use iTunes on iCloud I always seem to be downloading the tracks I need.
    Current configuration / devices:
    iMac 20-inch, Mid 2007 - nearly full!
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    OSX Mavericks
    Time Capsule (1TB)
    iPad
    iPod Touch
    Apple TV
    iTunes 11.1.5 (5)
    Many thanks

What "devices" are these?  By devices I normally understand i-devices and not computers.  How many computers?
If you put the whole library on the Time Capsule (TC) you can only use it with one computer at a time because the iTunes library file can only be opened by one copy of iTunes at a time.  If you put only media on the TC but have a copy of the library files on each computer you can use media by multiple computers but you then have the headache of trying to make sure that any changes done to the collection by one computer are mirrored by the libraries on the other computers which will be more or less independent.
I hope this TC isn't also your backup drive.  When the TC drive fails (and it will someday) then your whole collection is gone.  Don't rely upon Apple to always have copies for you to download.  For one, if a distributor puylls an item then it is gone period.  Additionally, Apple only keeps media, not the actual organization that is your set of library files.  If you do this, buy another backup drive.

  • How do I put iTunes songs on my mp3 player, it sails the format from iTunes doesn't work

Trying to put iTunes songs on my mp3 player, but my mp3 player said they are not mp3s and won't play

You can create MP3 versions of the songs by following this guide:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Save a copy of a song in a new file format

  • Is it possible to put iTunes songs onto a non iTunes phone?

Hey, can someone help me, I have a Motorola V3i and it DOESNT have iTunes, and i was wondering if it was possible to put iTunes songs on it

All iTunes does is creates music files (assuming imported from a CD) in whatever format you picked, sticks them into a folder, and then provides a top level GUI to organize them.
So with that said, what format does your Motorola phone take? And do you have a way to put files onto the phone? If you can, then you simple need to take whatever iTune you want, make sure it is in the right format (MP3 for example) then transfer it to your phone however it is you put files onto it.
Now if you were hoping to have iTunes somehow talk to the phone and do the transfer, then I suspect the answer is no.

  • Trying to put my Itunes Library on Time Capsule

I read this can be done to free up some room. I made a copy of my music folder in time capsule, pointed to it with itunes, but the file paths in itunes do not change. I made sure my time capsule was mounted, held option, launched itunes, selected the itunes folder in my time capsule, & still had no luck. This was the main reason why i purchased the device. Can someone tell me how this is done?

I did this successfully. I copied my entire iTunes folder to the network drive.
then 'hid' the old iTunes folder on my mac by renaming it, just to be sure it worked ok before deleting the old folder.
then created a new iTunes folder on the macBook which i populated with aliases for every file in the 'real' folder (now living on the network drive).
i didn't change the 'iTunes folder' inside iTunes - this still points to the folder on the macBook, which of course contains aliases, not real files.
this works. i then removed my old iTunes folder from the macbook. whew!
however... the problem is that my network drive didn't work properly, and i've now had to return it to apple. so i've had to re-instate my old iTunes setup. ho hum! but that's another issue... what your're asking is certainly possible.
while it was working, i did find iTunes a bit slow over the network. things like accessing song information took seconds instead of being instant. skipping to the next song sometimes took seconds as well.

  • ITunes silent playback from songs on Time Capsule

I (and a number of others) are having trouble with unreliable iTunes playback over AirTunes when songs are stored on a Time Capsule.
    More here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1768602&tstart=0
The cause appears to be Time Capsule firmware v7.41. Firmware v7.31 does not exhibit this issue.
Would it be possible for the Time Capsule people to have a look at this issue?

First never use the TC as the main source of your files, always have a backup on a usb or firewire external or if using a Mac Pro on a secondary hard drive. You could pull that TC hard drive and connect it to an external to get your files. Not a difficult thing to do.
If the TC disconnects often then you must have an interference problem which needs counter measured. Try an ethernet connector and by pass the wireless for a moment.

  • Two macs to share an iTunes library on Time Capsule?

what's the best way to do this? all the threads I've seen end up with only one computer able to access the library at a time. what i want is to rate a song upstairs on my G5 and not have to do it again on my iMac downstairs. I have both computers' iTunes libraries pointed to the times capsule but what next?

I understand the Media part. As for the library file itself, how do I safely put that on the TC and link both computers' itunes to it. What's the relationship between the xml and database files?

  • Want to place itunes library on time capsule

I want to put iTunes library on my time capsule so that all my computers on network can access same library and all music can be stored in. 1 place

Drag the iTunes library from the internal drive to the Time Capsule in the Finder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, and point it there. You may want to use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to create a disk image for the library; Time Machine will eventually take up all the free space on the drive, and a Time Capsule can't be partitioned.

  • Can playlists and play counts be restored in itunes form my time capsule?

My Macbook pro froze today and when and the force quit menu wasn't showing up so I reset my computer and when I opened itunes it was empty, it looked like I had just downloaded it with all the "helpful" notes everywhere. I was able to restore all the music from my time capsule and I'm wondering if anyone knows if playlists, play counts, can be restored because I have about 1000 podcasts about half listened to and now they all show that they haven't be listened to.

Do you mean on your Time Machine backup drive? Or are you actually accessing the backup? In either case you shouldn't be doing that. If you haven't space on your HDD to store the iTunes Library, then at least put it on another external drive.
Since you did not provide any information about what's actually "on my time machine," here's what you would do. The entire iTunes folder should be stored in the /Home/Music/ folder. Within that folder you would have three folders: imm Media, iTunes, and iTunes Playlists.

  • Itunes library on time capsule does not work.... HELP!

    Dear Mac-friends!
I moved my itunes library from my lacie disc to my brand new Time Capsule. But since then I only had trouble.
Everytime I restart my macbookpro and Itunes I get a message that the library cant be found. Even though the time capsule is running.
In my 'unknowingness' to solve this problem, I gathered all music files and erased the itunes library files (xml etc). Dont ask me why, I know it sounds stupid.
But how do I make these musicfiles into a library again? And more specifically into a library that Itunes 'remembers' even after shutting down my macbookpro?
Thanks already for your advice! And sorry for my 'stupidity'...

Please, dear Apple friends, help me! Itunes is driving me crazy....
I thought I had the solution; i created a new library folder on my TC, copied all my music files to the library in the itunes window. After copying one night and one day (which is strange, since all the files essentially already were placed on the TC, but anyway), I got an error warning saying that the copying had stopped because of a fault with file ". What this is, I dont know.
And besides that, half of the songs which were copied have the hated ! - symbol which means they cant be found...
It's so frustrating to have more than 25 gigabyte of music and not being able to play songs. Hopefully someone has a useful tip, because I'm starting to dislike Itunes. And I dont want that!
    Thanks

  • Lost iTunes files on Time Capsule

I had my iTunes files all on Time Capsule. Went to move them back to my iMac last night. They came back fine...but then I accidently erased the file out of TC, and now I when I go to play a song/movie in iTunes, it can't locate the original file. Did I REALLY screw up here...or can I go into Time Machine and recover the lost files?

Not knowing your EXACT movements, I'd say you are out of luck with Time Machine recovering the Time Capsule deleted files. If all your iTunes files were on Time Capsule, I doubt very much that Time Machine backed it up as it cannot back up the back up drive (assuming it was Time Capsule).
Now if you did SUCCESSFULLY transfer the files back to the iMac, you should only have to redirect iTunes to find the files where you transferred them. It may be a matter of setting up the iTunes library again. Perhaps a post in the iTunes forum would help.

  • ITunes Library on Time Capsule - syncing setup?

I've bought a Time Capsule and intend to use it as a server for music as long as a Time Machine destination.
We've got 2 Macbooks on our network:
Macbook1: this is my laptop, where I download/buy songs. The idea is to backup the music folder in this laptop to the TC using some app like Deja Vu.
Macbook2: this is my wife's: the source of her iTunes library should be the music folder backed up on TC.
When I add/delete a song to/from my library on my laptop the .mp3 file is automatically updated on my local (laptop) music folder. Then it is synced on schedule to the folder at TC (via Deja Vu).
BUT of course it's not added/deleted on my wife's iTunes Library automatically.
Is that a way to make her iTunes automatically rescan the folder on TC and add/delete new music to her library?
Or is there some other obvious solution I'm not visualizing???
    Thanks in advance!

Is there anyway to prevent iTunes from automatically changing the library path to my local drive if it doesn't immediately find my Time Capsule?
    none that i know of.
however, if your entire iTunes folder (not just the media files) is on the TC, you would at least get a warning from iTunes. if you then try to launch iTunes while the TC's drive isn't mounted, you fill see this dialog
followed by this, where you can choose to quit the application and nothing will have changed
make sure the TC's drive is mounted, then relaunch iTunes.

  • ITunes Media on Time Capsule Deleted, Need to Restore

I need help. I store my iTunes Media library on my Time Capsule, and connect to it on my MacBook Air. I was trying to consolidate my files, and I moved about half of my media files to the trash on my Air. Now half of my iTunes library is gone and I'm getting an error when opening iTunes. I now know the mistake I made, and I need to recover the deleted files. However, none of the deleted files are in my Trash for me to "put back." I want to puke. Any help or advice you could offer would really, really be appreciated.

Google finds many articles on how to move your iTunes to an external hard drive.
Here's the first hit in the list:

Fairly long article but it does seem to cover nearly everything.

  • Moving iTunes library from Time Capsule back to MacBook HD?

Recently I moved my iTunes media to my Time Capsule to free up space on my MacBook Pro. I want to move it back. How do I do that? When I look at my "Music" folder, the files seem to be there and then I double click on a song file and it opens. THis is after I have reset the file location preference.

    Get her back
Are the files stored in the Aperture Library or do you have them stored somewhere else?
And if you can't answer that one you will need to bring her back.
