  • HT6150 Single press of Power Button does not put my MacBook Pro to sleep after this update! Do I need to change anything in the settings? Any help please? Thank you!

The title says it all! After installing the new Mavericks update, I cannot put my MacBook Pro to sleep after a single press of the Power Button like before. Does it have something to do with this update or my MacBook Pro? Or do I have to change something in Settings?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

But remember that there are others.
A moment is a medieval unit of time equal to 1.5 minutes or 1/40 of an hour. This reckoning is derived from the work of Bartholomeus Anglicus, writing in 1240 that each hour was divided into four points, each point into ten moments, each moment into twelve ounces, and each ounce into 47 atoms.
In modern English it usually refers to "a short period of time",[2] the exact length remaining ambiguous.

There's been a problem with this all day.  Seems to be a server problem  -  wait a day and try again, or use itunes on the computer to update, that works.

It sounds unlikely of course. But from your question it's hard to tell what might have filled your HDD. Are you constantly on file sharing or has filled the drive with movies?
Best way to tell is to start checking what folders occupy space. "Get Info" for the HDD and its subfolders is a way to start checking where the data in question resides.
And as BGreg say, call Apple support is also a good way to begin with.

  • Please help:  I've just switched from Windows

    Dear Board,
I've just switched from Windows (purchased a Mac Pro for audio work) and I keep trying to right click the mouse for extra features like...(save, save as, open in new window, close) and none of these options seem to be available except as key commands.
Can someone instruct me on how to do this, if it is possible?
    Thanks,

    Hi, B3.
    1. If you have a two-button mouse, then Mac OS X should recognize the right-click to display the contextual menu for an object. However, some third-party mice, e.g. Microsoft Intellimouse, etc. may require you download and install the Mac drivers for such.
    2. What mouse are you using?
    3. If right-click isn't working, you press and hold the Control key, then click with mouse button 1 (left mouse button by default). Then release the Control key.
    4. There are fewer contextual menu choices in Mac OS X than in Windows, but I'd also not run out and download all sorts of third-party contextual menu items willy-nilly as these can be problematic.
    5. Since you just switched from Windows:• When looking for new applications, I recommend searching MacUpdate or Version Tracker. The user-submitted reviews accompanying the listings can be helpful in sorting the wheat from the chaff.
    • My "Learning About Mac OS X" FAQ has a number of resources that you will find helpful including books, online training, switching from Windows to Mac, and more.Good luck!

  • I have a MacBook Pro and have just switched from Windows, I would like to know if it is possible to download somehow my Collins Talking English and talking French Help please

I have a MacBook Pro opperating on Mavericks, Apple is all new to me having switched over from Windows, my question is, I have been unable to download my two COLLINS talking English and French, both worked well on Windows but will not  download on my MacBook, is there a method or way to download,  help please

I don't know these programs myself, but I suspect they are not written for Mac (if they are, it will say so on the packaging somewhere).  If they are Windows only, then your only alternatives are as follows:
You can use Boot Camp which comes with your Mac to install a copy of Windows on your Mac so that you can boot into windows and run this software via Windows.  This, of course, requires you to have a copy of Windows that you can install on the Mac. Copies of versions of Windows can be purchased via e-bay etc.
Alternatively, see if you can find similar software that is Mac compatible (this may be a cheaper option) on Amazon or other sites.

  • Macbook Pro not sleeping when lid closed

Since upgrading my late 2011 13-inch Macbook Pro to Yosemite, I've noticed that it does not go to sleep properly when I close the lid. While the screen does turn off, the white LED remains on at full brightness and the fans spin up to maximum speed. When I open the lid again, the fans slow down but the screen doesn't turn back on until I press a key. This suggests it wasn't sleeping at all and the display saver simply activated.
If I use the Apple menu (top left) to enter Sleep mode, wait for it to go to sleep then close the lid, it sleeps properly with the white LED glowing slowly.
I have checked the Energy Saver preferences, and there is no Sharing set up so I doubt that's the problem. Is anyone else having this issue? Any ideas how to fix it?

Similar issue after upgrade w my MBP (early 2011).
Close the screen with apps open... climb into bed... the laptop appears to enter sleep BUT several times thruout the night I hear the optical drive spin up along with the hard drive and screen glow (visible w screen closed as a glow)... then... it goes back to sleep (must detect closed screen).
    Weird.
Did not do so with prior OS installs (not hardware issue... related to Yosie install).

  • How do I put my MacBook Pro to sleep?

I just bought a new 13" MacBook Pro. I was going to refer back to the notes about putting it to sleep, but I misplaced the booklet that came with my computer.
So what's the process for putting it to sleep? Can I simply close the computer, stuff it in my pack and carry it on a bus, or is there some sort of procedure I should follow?
Also, is there an online version of the Getting Started booklet I can refer to?
    Thanks.

    Click the Apple/Sleep
Closing the lid will put the computer to sleep

  • My macbook pro 2010 crashes when I open the lid. How do i fix this?

So if I close the lid of my macbook pro and come back to after a while the screen will show but after a few seconds the screen goes black and doesn't entirely shut down as the keyboard is still lit up. This is when it occurs most often but it can also happen randomly.

What specific model MBP do you have and have you made any hardware changes to it?  Also, has this always happened with this laptop since you got it?  If not, how long has this been going on and do you remember makeing any software/hardware changes to it right before this started to happen?

If you try to access Spotlight in the morning and it is still indexing, reindex it by following these steps.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2409
Sometimes the index is corrupted, or something it is trying to index is, and it hangs up like that.
Re-indexing may free that up and let it work correctly.

  • Just switched from Windows to Mac, how do I back my contacts, texts etc.?

I've been synching my iPhone to my Windows XP laptop for over a year for everything. I have backups of my phone on my Windows laptop which came in handy when I got a replacement iPhone and put all the contacts, texts etc. from my old one onto the new one.
I recently bought a new Macbook because my old laptop was dying on me. I don't want to sync my phone with 2 computers at the same time, I want my Macbook to be what I use for everything. Using an external HD I transfered all my music and videos over to the Macbook, and they're good to go in iTunes.
When I connect my iPhone to the Macbook, it doesn't give me an option to create a backup of the phone. This is very important if my phone ever decides to die and I get another one and easily sync it back with iTunes. If I decide to restore the phone with the Macbook, will it create a backup before it wipes it?

    rebel1568,
All Photoshop versions through CS6 came with platform-specific licenses, either Windows or PC.  You could get a cross-grade of platform swap at a nominal cost but not for older versions, only for whatever Photoshop versions was current at the time.
CS3 is totally out of the upgrade or cross-grade loop.  You'd have to buy a new license for CS6 Mac or subscribe to Photoshop CC, as Trevor points out.
Curt Y is correct in that CS2 will not run on current Mac-Intel machines.  You would need a used Mac G5 or G4 with a PowerPC (IBM) CPU, which have been obsolete since mid 2006.
Of course, you could run your Windows  on your Mac if you installed and ran BootCamp or Parallells.

  • Just switched from Windows

    Hi everyone!
I am fish and I've been a loyal Windows user since the 90's when I bought my first PC.
Well, now that I switched to a Mac, I don't want to use the term, PC (Personal Computer) anymore.
Now that I am a Mac user, I want to establish a new term, DC (Desktop Computer) so as to not associate myself with the Windows peeps.
The learning curve is quite a ride.
I had to buy a new printer because my good old USB printer just couldn't work with the Mac (and even with the latest Universal Driver).
I just bought a Canon MP600 and this time also marks a new beginning for printing because I have also been a loyal HP printer user for many years.
This Canon also marks my first all-in-one printer and it compliments the new experience with my new 20" iMac.
My first real "project" as I call it is to use the scanning feature to scan the CD cover art into iTunes (I actually like iTunes, it's pretty well organized were I can customize my playlists).
Anyhow, this is my first post and I hope to enjoy this friendly forum as I learn about my new DC.
    Cheers!

  • Macbook Pro shuts down when asleep overnight

Specs: Macbook Pro 9,1, 2.6 Ghz I7, 8GB Ram, running 10.8.2.  No other problems that I'm aware of.  This started a couple of weeks ago:
Behavior: When putting my Macbook Pro to sleep overnight, it shuts down several hours into the sleep process.  A press of the return key restarts the computer.  This behavior is not desired.  I want the computer to sleep overnight, not shut down.  The computer is not on a schedule to shut down or restart.

  • Macbook Pro unstable crashing when opening iPhoto, FB flash apps and others.

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro that crashes when I open iPhoto or use Facebook flash apps.  I can't seem to find a solution.  I have included the last panic report.  I can use safari without a problem as long as I don't go on flash heavy sites.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash with no success.  I am not sure what to do next.  This started when I first updated to Lion and has persisted.  I have done a clean install of Mountain Lion but the problem still continues.

  • It goes to sleep, when I open it I cant click on anything.

When I close the lid or the macbook goes to sleep, when I open it I cant click on anything. The mouse moves but it doesnt let me close windows or do anything else either. I forced the programs to shut with cmd+alt+esc and it did let me to click on few things, however after the screen went to sleep again it did the same.Just didnt let me click on things.
Ive tried shutting the computer and rebooting it,even forced to it reboot itself and when it gets back the problem is still there.
My hardrive is fine,i run the cheks and I have 1/5 of the hardrive still in use.

    Hi Icemanjohn53,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Take a look at the article linked below, it provides troubleshooting tips that can help you resolve the display issue with your iPhone 5.
Get help with the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If your screen is too dim, too bright, or you see only faint images
Try to adjust the brightness. If the screen doesn’t respond when you adjust the brightness, open several apps to make sure it’s not an issue with only one app.
If you have a screen protector, try removing it. Try removing your case if it includes a screen protector.
If you see the issue in multiple apps, restart your device.
If restarting doesn’t fix the issue, restore your device.
If you still see the issue after you restore, contact Apple Support.
    Cheers,
    -Jason
