Put retina display in old macbook

hey guys i just wanted to know if you could put a retina display screen in a older mackbook. will it be compatiable?

Not hardly. Even if that were possible the cost to do so would probably buy you a new retina model.

  • MacBook Pro Retina Display 13" or MacBook Air 13"??

I'm starting university in September and I'm considering purchasing a MacBook Pro 13" or a MacBook Air 13" to use during my study. I just can't decide which to go for.
Because I do a lot of photography work - (Adobe Photoshop) - I'm guessing the pro is a good option although the only thing I'm concerned about is the weight. I'll be taking my MacBook wherever I go - I.e. On field trips, lectures to take notes, friends' houses etc. so I want it to be portable and easy to carry wherever I go.
My friend has an Air and it looks and feels great. But I've been thinking is worth me getting the pro? Is the weight difference that much of an issue? Or wont I notice it? I've seen many comparison videos and both seem to be pretty close in terms of thinness. I just don't want to feel gutted if I go for the Air when the MacBook Pro might have a lot more to offer. I'll also be using office software for all my writing work for my course next year and the idea of having crisp sharp typography really appeals to me if I go for the pro. Having said this, I've heard that the standard resolution and the retina display can't really be differentiated from working distance but I've also heard that the colours are more vibrant on the pro. Another concern is the battery life. I'm really stuck.
    Thank you for your time.

The Pro is slightly better for Photography.   The 15" Pro is even better as the graphics chip gives you more chip based power.
The weight is not that much.  I used to carry around an 8 lbs Powerbook in 1998.  The key to weight is having the proper bag with adjustable straps.
And when you do transport it, do not leave it on.  Shut it down.  Even with the sudden motion sensor, the innertia may suddenly wake it from sleep or make the hard drive deteriorate faster.  If it wakes with the lid closed, that can cause it to overheat from the display on the computer's keyboard.

  • Do I need retina display on my macbook

Im thinking about buying a new macbook. I would either get the 13 inch Macbook Air, with an Intel core i7 and 8gb of RAM and also 128gb of flash storage. Or I would get the 13 inch MacBook Pro with retina display with an 2.4ghz intel core i5, 8gb of RAM, and 128gb of flash storage. I would be using the Macbook for light video editing, recording for YouTube, so school work, and gaming. My biggest question: is retina display worth the additonal cost. Thanks!

The favored model would be the MacBook/Pro since it has better graphics and main processor
capabilities; given the options and build model versions in the /Pro, it is superior to the /Air.
Even the non-Retina /Pro offers RAM upgrade capabilities, hard drive or SSD specs high enough
for work with applications, and processor intense workflows, the /Air would be pressed to perform.
Either the Retina model /Pro or the /Air MacBook series could use more storage especially if
video, music, images, and other files end up stored in the same on-board drive as the OS X
and the applications. While quick, the system would slow down and there is little upgrade to
either once you buy into their configuration. Like the new iMac series, you get what you may
need based on the future use of it, not the minimal specs you may get by with for awhile.
A quick external storage via Thunderbolt, could also supplement the built-in 128GB SSD,
but would not be as quick as one in the main hard drive bus, that has a faster data path.
The 256GB SSD internal option is far better; & an external or two of 2TB, fast RPM HDD.
But that's my opinion after reading through these and see how the initial expectation is met
out of the box, but later workflow and load, stored files and the like, cripple the light-duty first
use performance; so the better higher-grade model is recommended in the beginning. Even
if the model ends up being an official Apple refurbished with the upgrade included; that being
a rare find although they do occur, in the online Apple Store special deals pages.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Which is a better buy for college a non-retina display 15 inch macbook pro with a 2.6ghz processor or a 2.9 ghz 13 inch non retina max specs macbook pro both with 8 gb of ram will be using to write papers basically for general use im a Science major

im a college student im studying to be a vet tech and i want this computer too last which a more sound investment the non retina macook pro 15 inch with these specs:2.6 ghz 1 tb ata hd with 8 gb of ram or a maxspec 13 inch mac book pro: 2.9 ghz 1Tb and 8gb of ram any help is appreciated thank you

    Hi,
I am a researcher so I store a lot of papers, data, and use numerical software. I have had a 17inch high spec macbook pro for over a year now. I find that apart from the large screen, it was unnecessary to get the high specs. This is why. Firstly, the hard drive is easy to replace and upgrade, apple charge a lot for their own ones. Secondly, the ram in my one was upgradable (which i didnt know when i bought it) and i since upgraded to 16gigs from 8 and its amazing. Thirdly, the newer macbook pros run hotter than the previous ones.
The retina is overrated and the programs for retina need more memory and processing power, so what you find is that your hard drive will get taken over sooner, your mac will run hotter, and battery life lower.
I would say to you, dont worry about the processor speed, the normal speed offered is perfect, more than that is not necessary unless you are running highly demanding apps, the mac will run hotter too. Dont bother getting a large hard drive in the macbook. Get a flash SSD drive, and buy a good portable 2tb HD, like a WD one, and use that to store as much of your work as possible. I believe apple started soldering their ram cards to the motherboard or something so that people cant upgrade. Check in advance and see if the macbook you want can be ram upgradable, then get a lower ram model and buy good 8gb ram cards to make 16gig. Very very easy to install them, took me about two minutes to do mine, it will be much cheaper.
If I think of anything else i will post back. Dont forget to install GFX card status too and use integrated only when on battery, i get up to ten hours of battery life without wifi, around 8 with wifi.
edit. I forgot to mention that if you buy your mac and try to open it you will void the warranty.

  • Macbook pro w/ retina display 13" or macbook pro mid2012?

hi okay so, i'm planning to buy a mbp, but i'm not quite sure which to get.
i'm still in highschool, so my main purpose of using laptop is basically for writing essays, doing presentations, edit movies, take pictures on photobooth when the teacher's not looking and also publisher. but i also use it for watching loads of tv shows.
i'm basically infatuated with the retina mpb, how it's thin and the resolution is amazing, but i also want the mbp mid 2012 because of its 500gb storage and its disk slot.
i'm planning to take engineering later on, people kept saying disk slot will come in handy. so, i'm super confused, please help!
    thank youuu:)

tl;dr i recommend the retina model
i love the 13" retina model because it's almost a macbook air with the hardware of a pro, just the graphics in it are rubbish - intel graphics on a 2560x1600 or whatever the screen is although you can scale down to 1280x800 for graphics work/games/whatever
as for the storage i would say it's worth going with a SSD - the performance is amazingly better and you cna make up the extra space with an external drive if needed
can't really answer the disk question but i've never missed it. a superdrive is good enough imo even if you'll be using it a few times a week

  • Using New Apple 27" LED Display with old MacBook Pro (Late 2006) 15"

    I've got a MacBook Pro (Model # A1211) Core2Duo 15" 2.16 GHz with only 128 MB of VRAM and a built-in DVI port (I think it is dual-link DVI)
My question is, will the new 27" LED Display work with this machine at its best resolution? If so, what adapter would I need to get it to work?
    Thanks!

I don't think the Kanex adapter is the best one to purchase. The information on their website says it will only drive the 27" at 1280 x 720. Although I have not purchased one yet, the ATLONA website http://www.atlona.com/Atlona-Dual-Link-DVI-to-Mini-DisplayPort-Converter-USB-Pow ered.html, claims their Atlona AT-DP400 converter will drive the 27" at its highest resolution of 2560 x 1440. I have read confirmation from some users that this is the case for the DP400.

  • In macbook pro 2012 retina display einbauen

ist es möglich das retina display in das macbook pro anfang 2012 einzubauen

Mac OS X already handles that stuff for you.
If it ran any faster, it would melt.

i have the macbook pro 13" retina display. Can I upgrade my 8gb ram to 16gb? my processor is 2.5Ghz intel core i5

To save space on the computer, Apple has decided to solder the memory onto the logic board on the MacBook Pro with Retina display and the MacBook Air, and that's why you can't add more memory after buying the Mac. This only applies to these computers, not for the other ones

  • Does my MacBook Pro Retina Display 13 inch. Late 2013 Supports DDR3 RAM instead DDR3L?

i just bought a brand new macbook pro retina display 13 inches, but i need to now if i can install my 16 gb (8x8 slots) DDR3 memory RAM (Corsair) in to my new computer without any danger or risk for my macbook.

MacBook Pro with Retina display comes standard with 4GB of 1600MHz memory. Please note that the memory is built into the computer, so if you think you may need more memory in the future, it is important to upgrade at the time of purchase.

  • IPad Retina Display Leaves Me Disappointed with Normal Vision

Hi, I just got the new iPad, and I've been using the retina display in the dark.  Doing so has left me with a major problem, though.  This display is literally the best thing I have ever seen.  I can't stop looking at it.  Looking at non-retina-display objects is now boring and unsatisfying.  Will this feeling last forever?

I dunno -- with my 52 year old eyes, I see absoltuely no difference between the Retina Display, the old iPad2, or the reality of the world around me.

  • Transfer all files from old macbook pro to new

my 2010 macbook pro has packed up completely it does not show anything except a white screen and a spinning wheel (pain of my life !), i probably have time machine back up, planning to get the new retina display 2.7 macbook pro,
my question-will all my stuff get transferred as it is using the time machine? or will i need to reload the software such as macoffice etc seperately.

Depending upon the OS that you were using on your 2010 MBP, some third party applications may not be compatible and they will have to be replaced with newer versions or abandoned.
Have you had your MBP examined at an Apple store genius bar?  The diagnostic tests are done at no cost to you.
    Ciao.

  • I am going to replace my 3 year old MacBook Pro with a new MacBook Pro Retina display machine.  I have been told by Apple that I can use the Migration Assistant ON MY WIRELESS NETWORK (no cables) to transfer data... I've read this can take AGES.. True?

I am planning to replace my 3+ year old MacBook Pro with a new MacBook Pro, Retina display... I have been told by "chat" on the Apple site that I can transfer my data wirelessly... on my network.. Is is a good option?  I don't want to invest in cables if I can help it... since the old machine has firewire and the new one has thunderbolt!  Will the wireless transfer take forever... as in 30-50 hours???  I've been hearing these horror stories...

screen went out on my 10 yr old dell xps m1710 - it appears to still boot - I can't see anything on the screen - I am looking ofr a way to directly access the hard drive pc to pc connection and do direct file transfers - tornado does not work c osx systems yet  any otehr device out there? I have a lot of famiily pictures and some word files I want to transfer - nothing heavy.  it is a screen/hardware issue not someting I can boot c in safe mode - still can''t see the screen and can't see to use a zip drive - I will need to use my new macbook pro 15 retinal display 2013 screen to "see" the files on the pc.
    ideas?
    Thanks
    mhdmd53 -
usb to usb does not work nor does the tornado device - that is - so far - just pc to pc.

FireWire between the two (get appropriate 800-800 or 400-800), Target Disk Mode on the old one, appears as an external disk on the new one. Drag everything over, or use Setup Assistant if first start of new one, or plain old Migration Assistant. You really don't need a display to see a prancing FireWire icon, do you?

  • I purchased Lightroom on my old Macbook but recently updated to a Mac with Retina display for editing my photos. I don't want to purchase Lightroom again and want to keep my catalog I have been using. Is there a way to access it on my new computer?

I purchased Lightroom on my old Macbook but recently updated to a Mac with Retina display. How do I access Lightroom on my new computer without purchasing it again?

If you created a new Apple ID, you have to purchase the app again. If you can still use the old ID, then you can download it again for free by using that ID. But you will run the risk of locking yourself out of your new Apple ID for 90 days by downloading the app with your old ID and associating the iPad with the old ID.
Is the risk of locking yourself out of your new Apple ID worth not having to pay $.99 again for an app?

  • Would i be better going for a Macbook Pro with retina display or one without for a 15 year old teenager?

I'm unsure of what to get my son for his birthday, he is a 15 year old teenager doing GCSE's at the moment and needs a laptop for work. this would be his first one, but he uses a desktop a lot, the mac book would be used for programming, some CAD work, a bit of gaming and watching movies but as you could appreciate i don't want it to be too expensive, has anybody got any idea's? P.S. if i was to get the non retina display version, how long would apple support security updates and OS upgrades (E.g. to OS X Yosemite) for it?

Other than refurbished units (which are usually very good buys) the only non-Retina model currently sold as new is the 13" MacBook Pro, which still has an optical drive, user replaceable RAM and hard drive, etc.
If you're going to go the non-Retina route, I might suggest searching for a 15" 2012 non-Retina model. It seems to be the most stable model that's been made, lately. Like the other non-Retinas, you can upgrade the RAM and hard drive yourself and it, too, comes with an optical drive.
Either a new machine or a refurb will be supported for a long, long time, I imagine. I don't expect my 2011 model (non-Retina, of course) to be out-of-date for the next 3-5 years, for instance (if the machine actually lasts that long - 2011 15" & 17" models have not had a good track record).
Check out the refurbs here -> http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac?afid=p219|GOUS&cid=AOS-US -KWG-MAC. You may be able to find a good 2012 refurb that would serve your son well, with the full one-year warranty (and eligible for AppleCare extended warranty).
    Good luck,
    Clinton
