Putaway Strategy Configuration: Near Picking bin

Hi,
I have to prototype a basic scenario for the putaway strategy: Near picking bin(K) in WM. I am unable to find any material, links that would help me with the step by step config to implement the same with an example to understand the process.. Can some one please help me with any links, steps with an example...
Thanks'

Hi Philip
Find below the link which will help to understand and configure the "Near Picking Bin - K " stragegy

  • Putaway strategy K: near picking bin

    Hi guys,
I am experimenting putaway strategy K with 2 storage types, fixed bins & reserve. In my setup when capacity check is enabled in fixed storage type and no capacity left, the system searches for another bin from reserve and it works fine.
However my requirement would be that system would switch to reserve bins right away if fixed storage bin is NOT empty. Standard customization does not allow to disable "addition to existing stock" in case of putaway strategy is F - fixed bins.
Any advice how to achieve this in standard system or is the user exit needed?

    Hello,
Put away strategy K (Near Picking Bin) is used for materials that is being is frequently picked, as it is appropriate to store the material close to picking area.
In this strategy system will try to place the material in fixed bin, if not the system will try a reserve bin, the baseline is system will do placement in a bin which is closest to picking area using configured search.
You can define this in transaction OMLA.
    The screen will shows six possible configurations selections;
    >Put away strategy activation
    >Storage type control definition
    >Search per level definition
    >Row ans shelf assignment
    >Storage bin generation
    >Consistency checks
Also in IMG >>Logistics Execution>>Warehouse Management>>Strategies>>Put away strategies>>Define strategy for Near Picking Bin
For respective warehouse and storage type, it is genuinely to leave the configuration with only 'K' in stock placement control and this will surely perform put away in reserve bin as expected and required by you, without searching for the fixed bin or carrying out a search for a relevant bin.

  • SAP WM -Stock Placement-Near Picking bin

    Hi
    Two quries
The scenario  is -On receipt of stock need to first fill the Fixed bin in the Fixed storage type and if the capacity reached max in the fixed bin then the reserve bins in the reserve storage types are to be filled.
    (1) I trying using Stock placement strategy for fixed storage type as "F" (fixed bin ) and in the reserve storage types as "K" (near picking bin).Defined Storage type search sequence first fixed and next reserve storage type.In the Near picking bin stock placement strategy activation expect "Search width per level" and "Assign shelves to the aisiles" all  other configuraion are done.
Pls tell me the impact of using these two steps in detail. (a) Search width per level(b) Assign shelves to the aisiles .Is it mandatory to use this two steps for the near picking bin strategy .
    (2) Is their any other solutions can be followed for the above said scenario.
help me to solve these quries

    Hi Aktar
    We maintained
Stoarge Type Stock palcment Strategy:Addition to exsisting Stock
SUT Active,SU Active ,Addition to exsisting stock Active
In Mixed stoarge :Mixed Storage Not Allowed.
(Mixed stoarage Type Indicator "A" is not allowed when we are using stock palcement startegy as 'Addition to exsisting stock").
Material we are not tracking by batch number ,but SLED will be maintained at the time of receipt.
When we receive  New stock ,system  is adding to the BIN which already has the same Material ,System is adding the new stock to the exsisting SU Number(Not creating the New SU Number) and SLED information even though different for the Incoming New stock ,system over writes with the exsisting stock SLED.
Pls help ,how to solve this

  • Putaway Strategy - Not going to next bin

If I have a Putaway Strategy of Next Empty Bin and my bins have a set capacity of 1.000 KG (Maximum weight of 1.000 KG), then I receive and try to putaway a total of 10.000 KG, the system is allocating the whole 10.000 KG in one bin. Shouldn't it put away in 10 bins? The strange thing is that for the same material in other Plants, the process is fine, SAP splits the quantity correctly among the bins. AND for other materials in current plant it does work fine either.
We double checked the Material Master for the material/current plant against material/other plant (WM1, WM2, and further views). Everything looks the same.
We also double checked the MMaster for current material/plant against other material/current plant and there's no difference at all.
    Could anybody help out?
    Best Regards,
    Rodrigo

The Capacity Check Method is empty, but things are working for other materials, SAP splits the total quantitity according to the weight capacity of 1.000KG for each bin.
I'm wondering if there's another configuration that leads to the same result.

    Rodrigo

  • SAP WM Putaway strategy - Next empty bin

    Hello,
I am testing putaway strategy - L - Next empty bin.
    I' ve created 902 - Storage type:
Also i've been activated storage type search and storage section search:
Then i've added this data to material master:
And i also defined movement type- 101 for purchase orders:
Also, special for this, i've created the empty bin:
But when i am trying to post goods receipt in MIGO, i am getting the following error:
Storage bin Z02   does not exist (check your entry)
    Message no. L9009
Could you please advise - what is wrong - why i can't post the goods receipt in MIGO?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello, Jürgen
That's the settings for standard 101 wm mvmt type:
That's setting for my 101 wm mvmt type:
Difference - that i don't want to use dynamic storage bins.
And i still have this error:
Storage bin Z02 902  does not exist (check your entry)
    Message no. L9009
Now system defines also storage type, because of i wrote it in the mvmt type, but i still can't understand, why it doesn't find storage bin, according the strategy.
I think, that i 've made all necessary customizing settings and i also have one empty storage bin on this storage type and storage section.

  • Difference between open storage & Bulk storage PUTAWAY STRATEGY

    Dear all,
What is main difference between open storage & Bulk storage PUTAWAY STRATEGY ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Olet Malla

    Hi,
Open storage is a type of warehouse organization in which you define a single storage bin for a storage section. Normally if it a large area with one (or more) storage sections.
Materials that occur in large quantities and generally take up a lot of space in storage are often stored in bulk storage. Mainly it is used for Reduced need for physical storage bins, Fast access to the trading units, Clear structuring of the warehouse (into blocks and rows)
This putaway strategy searches for storage bins in bulk storage.
    Thank you

  • [WM] Putaway strategy for bulk storage type SU-managed

    Hi Gurus,
    I need your help
I have a Bulk storage type with SU-managed. I would undestand the real behaviour of putaway strategy B.
    1)  Case 1: assume that in bulk storage type there are the followed bins (rows):
    - in bin XX1 there is material AAA
    - Bin XX2 is empty
In this situation if i receive material AAA, putaway strategy B chooses the bin XX1 by background processing - correct!
    2) Case 2: assume that in bulk storage type there are the followed bins (rows):
    - In Bin XX1 there is material AAA
    - in Bin XX2 there is material AAA
    - in Bin XX3 there is material AAA
In this situation if i receive material AAA, i don't undestand the behaviour of putaway strategy B. Seems that the system chooses in random way the bin (XX1, XX2 and XX3).
P.S: the storage unit type is one of default - E1.
    Can you help me?
    Thank very much

    You told
    Addn to Stock: X
    Block upon placement: empty
Then How can you have Case 2?
In Bin XX1 there is material AAA
Next time also stock goes to XX1 only not XX2 unless you overwrite manually.
What does your block strage structure looks like? i'm sorry but i don't undestand your question.
Go to OMM4 "Define-Block struct." and look No. SUs for your St. bin type, SUT & Bulk stor Ind.

  • Putaway strategy based on nearest empty bin

    Gurus
In my storage type there are different bins, how is it possible for me to have the system propose a nearest empty bin for a putaway location, nearest empty need not be the next empty bin strategy, what considerations i should take during bin creation, how can this be linked to the sort sequence, need a clean explanation of this issue.

    Hi
You can use sort variable function to map nearer to your requirement, called as Cross-line stock putaway.
    Cross-Line Stock Putaway
In this function, a sort variable helps the system to search for suitable storage bins. With the sort variable, you can eliminate the problems caused by one-sided loading in the warehouse and optimize the stock putaway process in your warehouse. If the sort variable has not been defined, the system sorts using the storage bin coordinate itself
With the putaway strategies L (next storage bin) and P (storage unit type), you can influence the search for a suitable storage bin with the help of a sort variable. This method can also be set up for storage types with putaway strategies L (Addition to existing stock) or B (Bulk storage), since if the system does not find a bin for adding to existing stock, it will use sort variables to find an empty storage bin.

  • Putaway strategy 'Q' Dynamic quant

    Hi,
We have an issue with the internal movement of stock from a storage type that does not allow partial quantity picking.
Scenario: The Putaway strategy for the St type has been configured as 'Q' and picking strategy as 'F'. The available stock in the bin/quant is say 1000 Boxes. I have created a transfer order to pick only 600 boxes. when i confirm the transfer order system is confirming the full 1000 boxes rather than picking only partial qty. Full stock removal has not been activated for this St type in config.
We would like to know if this is something to do with the st type with Q config(like does Q allows picking of complete quant only?).
if anyone has faced this issue earlier would be great to get some hints.
    Thanks,
    Harish

For our movement type over deliveries are allowed. Below is my observation:
    1. when we transfer stock from bulk storage type system allowing us to confirm part pallet using mvt type say 9**.
    2. when we transfer stock from dynamic quant number then system does not allow us to confirm part pallet but confirms full pallet only and this is using the same mvt type 9**.
we are using same movement type for transfer of stock from both these storage type onto a staging area which is a interim location but system is behaving differently for these two scenarios.
I am not sure if standard SAP has made dynamic quant storage type to allow withdrawal of full pallet only and needs help if someone has faced similar issue.

    Harish

  • Addn to stock flag for putaway strategy not working

    Hi
It seems that the flag “Addn to stock” for putaway strategy “ “  in the storage type 103 configuration is not working fine as the quantities of the same material with the same batch sent to the same stype 103, and destination bin are not being added. So by running stock report in WM we see several lines with partial quantities instead of only one line with the total quantity in place. Do anybody know how can that be solved? Or what can be the route cause of the issue? Is there any OSS known applicable to fix the problem?
    Thx for your help

    Hi Guys
Unfortunately I do not think that you will get an answer now. Either your question is not simple or we do not know.
So in the interest of keeping the Forum tidy and easier to surf through could you please close your thread and wither try one of the other forums or try another post. I do not think that mosy people will bother to look this far back anymore.
Sorry I cannot help as I would if I could.

  • SAP WM: Mixed pallet with putaway strategy "P"

    Dear Experts,
I am using putaway strategy P for a storage type and I have given X for Mixed storage field.
I am not able to put multiple batches of same material in one bin, is it possible with putaway strategy P
I am not using SU management.
    Thanks in advance,
    Amit Kumar

This is from a WM colleague:
First it will always look at same bin as a material is stored
    with put away strategy “I”.
This scenario is completely wrong, if I understand it right.
He/she needs to look at the bin strategy for the SU types
defined in the LE qty. / SUT types for bin type.
Strategy “I” is for addition to stock like they said.
Capacity check 2 only works if it is SUT active, which they say it is
not.  Not the check flag, but the SUT.
The strategy for SUT type allowed to bin type only works if it
is SUT managed, which they say it is not.
The strategy just doesn’t seem right.  If they do not use
SU’s, the only capacity check that works is max from the material master (WM-1
    view) weight “1”.
The bin type / SUT strategy will not work unless they are using
SUT’s for storage.  Not just the LE qty. in the SUT defined.
If they aren’t using SUTs for storage, it is only a quant.
Noting is configurable for strategy of quant to storage bin type.

  • Pallet putaway strategy question

    Dear all,
I am new in the pallet putaway strategy and need your experience advise if you have done this.
    Question.
1 - To use the pallet putaway strategy (i.e. P), do I need to configure the Storage Bin Type search (i.e. spro > logistics execution > wm > strategies > activate storage bin type search)?? Is it compulsory?
2 - To use the pallet putaway strategy, the storage type MUST BE a SUT-managed and that the "SUT check activate" checkbox MUST Checked, am I correct?
    thanks
    Tuff

    Hi,
the storage bin type search and the storage unit type check more or less is the same. You have to define storage unit types, storage bin types, assign which SUT goes into which SBT. Well, and then you activate the check.
You need to do this for the pallet strategy. You do NOT need to activate the storage unit management in a storage type with the pallet strategy.

    Hi Alba,
Please check the WM views in MM.
    I've checked:
(SAP help pushing F1 when the cursor is set on this thick box)
<i>Indicator: Allow addition to existing stock
Indicator determining whether a material with particular characteristics may be added to existing stock of the same material with the same characteristics in one storage bin.
    Dependencies
If the storage type control table does not allow additions to existing stock for this storage type, the indicator set in the material master record is ineffective.</i>

  • WM/HU - Putaway strategy

    Hello to everybody.
To explane my scenario I will give you an example:
Storage type CT1 has several storage bins. Every storage bin can contain one or more HU. I can set the maximum number of SU that the bin can contain in the putaway strategy P. This allows me to use an automatic process to putaway the HUs. But this is not enough for me. I also want the possibility to storage manually more HUs than the limit setted in the putaway strategy. And I want to do that because I also manage the production returns: for this reason the HUs don't have the same dimensions.
    Is this possible?
    If yes, how?
Thank you so much for your help!
Edited by: ConsViv on Nov 17, 2010 4:13 PM

Storage sections are for putaway purposes only.
The best way to think about it is they are a collection of bins within a storage type that direct a putaway.
    Example:
Let say you are a company that makes hats.  You have a storage type for your bulk whsing that has aisles 3 levels high.  Now lets say that your blue hats sell faster than your red hats, and your red hats sell faster than your green hats.  So you want to store your blue hats on the bottom rack, your red hats on the middle rack, and the green ones way up top in the highest rack.
You can do this with storage sections.  You would configure 3 storage sections that include the bins in the 3 different levels of rack.  Then you would configure a strategy for those sections - so that you can say if you want to place in the bottom rack and it is full - you go to the middle rack etc.
Then you designate each material with a storage section in the material master.
Now - when you have placements - you red hats get to the right place.

  • Wm strategy L--Next Empty Bin

    Hi Gurus,
I have some basic question   ,
1.L-Next Empty Bin:- As we already defines the search strategy for the storage type & structure of the bin with its way of deciding the bin. Why it is require to define it as a separate strategy(Assiged to st type?)
    i.e
for e.g i defined strategy P- Storage unit type if the system found the bin is not empty the system will automatically find the next empty bin ?
2.About LIFO & FIFO is it enough if i specify it in material master? If i do not specify which one is considered by system?
3.The use of Stringent FIFO is to skip  the st type from  search strategy which is defined for all st type *** is it right?

    Hi dev,
Dont confuse the Storage type search strategy with putaway & picking strategy. Both are different.
Storage type strategy - This is used to find out a suitable storage type for putaway as well as picking based on the order which you have mentioned (Automatic Storage type search).
Putway & Picking Strategy - This we have to define in the storage type settings. The strategy which we define here has a major role in Bin Determination.
Next Empty Bin - If you assign this strategy system will determine an empty bin every time you place material into stock.
P - Storage unit type - This is purely based on the settings which you define for the storage unit type & sections. ( it will place the material into a bin even it has stock in it based on the SUT)
As the name suggests FIFO & LIFO strategy are used while removing stock from wareouse & system will determine the bin for Stock removal based on the FIFO & LIFO criteria whichever is mentioned in the storage type.
Stringent FIFO - For this we will define ' *** ' (blank) in the auto storage type search table & based on this system will remove stock from the oldest quant in the warehouse.
    Hope this answers your queries.
