  • I need to put final cut pro on another computer. I have the receipt via my itunes but I can't see what I need to be able to download it again?  Can anyone help?

Can someone help. I've read the detail and have my order and invoice number but I can't seem to be able to find how to download fina cut pro onto another computer (it's on one and I have now taken that off and need to put it on another with a larger memory).
Anyone able to give me notes for a dummy?

Are you talking about FCP X? You just need to open the App Store application in the mac, login with the same Apple ID you used to buy the software, and click on "purchases".
If you mean legacy Final Cut, then you probably need to have the original disks, but you should ask in the Final Cut Studio forum.

  • Jan Software Update on another computer

OK, so I thought I was going to have no problem purchasing and installing the January Software Update on my secondary computer. I got the 1.1.3 update for my iPod touch, then updated iTunes to 7.6. I then purchased the JSU, and got it. But then I realized that I had to sync to my iPod to get it over there, and my secondary computer didn't have everything my primary computer had in its library, so I was going to lose everything. My primary computer was out for repair, so I decided not to sync off my secondary, and wait for the primary to come back from repair. Now I'm trying to get the JSU onto my iPod touch from my primary. But though iTunes Music Store says I already purchased it, I can't get it again from them to sync over to the iPod. How can I get iTunes to give me the software I purchased on this primary computer????

Reading through your message again, it seems you have some hope...
The following instructions are being reposted (again)
"The iPod touch January Software Upgrade can only be synced to iPod touch from the primary iTunes library. If the user is manually managing music and video on iPod, this is the computer where they first set up the iPod or first set it up after restoring the iPod. The "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file can be copied from the computer where you purchased it to your primary iTunes library computer, and sync the iPod from there.
    The file is located here:
    Mac OS X:
    ~/Library/iTunes/Mobile Applications
    Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings[user name]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
    Windows Vista:
    C:\Users[user name]\AppData\Roaming
    Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
Note: These locations are hidden by default in Windows. You can these locations by choosing "Show hidden files and folder" in the View tab of the Folder Options Control Panel.
Once you have copied the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file to the computer with your home library, make a new folder named Mobile Applications in the correct location, and place the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file there. Open iTunes and sync your iPod touch."

  • HT2305 have a notebook running 10.5.8 - should I upgrade the software or buy another computer?

Have a macbook runniing osx 10.5.8 should I buy a new computer or upgrade the software?

That's your choice. Without know what your exact model is here is the upgrade path for OS X:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
If your model is a plastic housed MacBook then I would buy a new computer. If you have a model from Late 2008 or later, then it's a matter of just how old it is. The last MacBook was in 2010, and that model would run Mountain Lion OK. Prior to that I would stick with Snow Leopard.

  • Can I use 'software update' for another computer hook up via firewire?

My wife has a powerbook that has problems. I had to re-install the original software and back up her files. The problem is I can't get on the internet either hardwire or through airport. It says the password I am giving is incorrect. I have no problem getting on line with my ibook. So my idea is this, Can I hook her powerbook up to my ibook using firewire and then use software update to update her opertaing system. She has 10.2. Thanks

You can manually download the updates and copy them via firewire to the other Mac. Once the updates are on the other Mac, you can run them from there.

  • My MB crashed, a friend put our hard drive in another computer- windows xp, the original hard drive is running the computer and I don't have access to any of my bookmarks or history. I've searched through all the helps and nothing seems to fit my case.

I don't know if I have a "profile", can't find the hidden files or instructions to find them, can't find the firefox.exe file on old hard drive - followed each solution as far as I could and nothing has helped so far.

First of all please remember the advice in my post about backing up information and bookmarks before making changes. Note also
*if you use options from Windows or Firefox to delete personal information it will (or at least will try to ) delete all information from all versions of firefox installed. Do NOT use such options it is likely to destroy History, Bookmarks and Passwords.
    * you will have only one copy of History, unless you manually backup the database places.sqlite you could easily loose all your History
IIRC restoring a computer using Windows does not always work in restoring firefox properly, I seem to recall it does not restore all required files.
''So, I should be able to follow this help to take care of the problem? Just move it from the original drive to C drive/new profile that's currently running?
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
    <u>Recomended method move ''places.sqlite''</u><br/>
You will need to read the above linked instructions carefully. Rather than trying to move the profile itself I was expecting you to follow instructions to just copy required files such as the Bookmarks and History that would be in the database file ''places.slite''.
<u>Advanced Method edit ''Profiles.ini' to point at original profile on other Hard Disk Drive'</u><br/>
There is an alternative method and that is to leave the old profile where it is and use that with the new Firefox installation. I tend to manually move profiles but this is not really recommended as it is easy to make mistakes. You will certainly find the method in the above paragraph easier If you want to try the alternative method then note that
*a file called ''Profiles.ini'' will need editing
*you will need to use Relative=0 and the full path
    * see
    ** http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder#Modify_profiles.ini_to_point_to_the_new_location_-_Advanced
<u>Copy old profile content to New profile</u><br/>
This should be relatively easy and work If the versions of Firefox are the same and the original profile was working properly. Note you copy the contents and all sub files and folders, but you do not copy the folder name. So do not completely overwrite the new profile, this is because they will have differing names, Firefox adds pseudo random strings to the name.( In the case of your original profile; from your above post; that includes '''''i7twob91''''' in the name)
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder#Create_a_new_profile_and_migrate_your_old_data <br/>(Note you will not need to create a new profile in your case it will already exist)

  • My ipad quit backing up and it cannot find the file.  I tried putting on another computer after a hard reset but it says it cannot back up there either.

My ipad quit backing up because it cannot find the file.  I have tried a restore and hard reset and adding itunes to another computer and putting it on there but it still will cannot add the ipad to the new computer and back up.  I have an iPad (not iPad 2) and 5.01 OS.  It appears that my iPad is not fully fuctional since I updated to the new OS which is when my ipad stopped backing up.  I lost data too and some apps don't work anymore.

Have you previously synced photos to the iPad, as that occasionally causes the 'missing file' error. If so then try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try backing up - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314.
In terms of apps not working, if it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
If it's happening on all apps then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I am wanting to put the new firmware on to my iPhone 4 and am wondering if I do this from another computer will I loose all my data - i.e music

No you will not lose any data. However a pop up will come up telling you if you want to sync with this computer, and that if you do, that it will erase the data. Just click "No" and you can still update your phone. I've done this a few times.

  • What is the best way to migrate your Adobe software to another computer?

What is the best way to migrate your Adobe software to another computer?

If you know that you do not intend to use the software on the old machine (especially if you are getting rid of it), the minimum you need to do is deactivate it.  That will disable use of it and free up an extra activation for you should you ever wish to have two machines available to use it on.  To deactivate you just open an application and choose Help -> Deactivate.  If this happens to be a Creative Suite, doing that to just one of the applications will deactivate the entire Suite.
You can also uninstall the software if you like, but be sure to deactivate it first.
