Putting an iPad in a time capsule. Will it turn on in the year 2037?

My college wants to place a loaded iPad into our 50th Anniversary time capsule.  We will include cords and a charger, but it is possible the time capsule won't be open for another 25 years.  So, what is the dormant life span of an iPad battery.  Will our iPad turn on in the year 2037?

Lithium-based batteries do degrade over time even when unused - most sources indicate two to five years for rechargable lithium batteries - so it's quite likely that the battery in the iPad will no longer function after twenty-five years, and it's unlikely that replacement batteries will be available at that time. It's possible that the iPad would power up even with a totally defunct battery, but I think it unlikely. So my guess is that the iPad will not work.
Regards.

my time capsule will not turn on

Is it Gen 1 or Gen 2?
It is utterly standard dead power supply. Just google tme capsule power supply.. you would be highly fortunate it lasted this long.
Gen 3. It has a shorted board. They used a batch of poor ceramic caps that short out.
Gen 4. Don't know.. they will suffer the same issue as Gen 3 if that batch of caps was still being used. They are still too young to have an easy to see pattern.
Most will be under warranty or applecare still in which case it is apple's problem not yours. Plus they are not landing in my hands yet.. so I cannot give you info.. Apple will never tell you anything.
Tell us how old? What model A1xxx from the base?
    What size hard disk?
Do you have just backups or do you have data that needs recovery?
For just TM backups it is better to let them go now, unless it is gen3.
Economic life 3years and 3days. The 3/3 principle.. make sure they last the full apple extended warranty.. plus some margin..

  • My old Dell is connected to the Internet thru a modem. My time capsule will only flash yellow from the same modem.  I cannot get it to oprate with steady green light

I have hit the reset button multiple times. I have moved the cables both on the back of the Airport Time Capsule and the Modem, without achieving progress.
I have followed the instruction in the Time capsule directions multiple times. and still cannot achieve the Green Light!
I am stuck and unable to sign on with my MacBook Pro that does not recognize the Time Capsule, because it clearly is not properly functioning.

How old is the TC? Is this the AC version.. then you are stuck.
If it is gen4 or earlier download the airport utility 5.6 for windows and use that on your Dell.
If you have ipad/iphone with iOS 6 or greater you can download the latest airport utility for iOS and use that.. it is much better apparently than the Mac version.
What OS is on the Mac?
It is well worth buying the Thunderbolt to ethernet adapter.. do you happen to already have it.. so you can plug in by ethernet?
Otherwise just do the process again.
But this time do it in isolation.. turn off the modem.
Hard reset or factory reset the TC.
Wait for a few minutes for it to come backup and then open the wifi and you can locate the TC listed in the wifi.. click on it and the airport utility will come up. Setup in isolation so you can then select it and change it to bridge mode.. then plug back into the modem and turn it on.
    What modem is it BTW?

  • My ipad mini went blank and will not turn on because the button is jammed

My daughters ipad went blank shortly after updating the new IOS software. The top right button has been inoperable for about six months. It hasn't been a problem until now. Apple store says there is nothing they can do since the button doesn't work. Is there a way to get it fixed or at the very least get the photos off of it.

Have you tried resetting your iPad?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

  • Time Capsule Will Not Connect to the Internet

I would appreciate any help or suggestions with my Time Capsule problem. We have a 1TB Time Capsule, in all of 2010 it worked great. We had 2 Mac Books backing-up to it daily, never had a problem. We purchased an iMac this month and I migrated the setting from one of the Mac Books onto the iMac, no problems. However, now the Time Capsule will not back-up either the iMac or the other Mac Book. The Mac Book that I migrated all the information from hasn't been turned on since the migration. Yesterday, the Time Capsule no longer allow us to connect to the internet. I contacted my ISP to ensure internet service was active and plugged the exisiting Mac Book (we still use) into the cable modem and was able to use the internet. This morning the TC wouldn't allow audio streaming to an ATV. Any ideas on what to do to correct the problem?

I'm good with erasing all former back-ups on the Time Capsule and starting fresh with the iMac. Please tell me how.
o Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
    o Click the Disks icon
o Click the Disks tab just below the Disks icon
o Click the Erase button in the center of the window
The Quick Erase option will be fine for your purposes. This will only take a moment or two.
When you are ready to backup the iMac,
o Connect it to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule using an ethernet cable
o Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
    o Open Time Machine
    o Click Select Disk
o Click on your Time Capsule to highlight it
    o Click Use for Backup
The backup will begin in a few minutes. Allow a long time for the backup. A good time to start this is late at night so you can let the backup run overnight.

What model is your TC? What is the firmware?
I recommend you do a factory reset and use short names.. not apple recommended names.
Short.. 2-20 characters .. less than 10 even better.
    No spaces.
    Pure alphanumeric.
Set fixed channels for 2.4ghz wireless.. test with 11, 6, 1 at least.
That often helps.. if not and is old, ie Gen1-4 go back to 7.6.1 firmware which is far more solid.

  • How can I access iTunes media from my iPad to my time capsule

How can I access iTunes media from my iPad to my time capsule with out a computer

Really not suitable.. The TC is a dumb hard disk in a router.. it is not a media server..
You can move your itunes library to the TC.. but if you do that.. one day the TC will die and take your library with it.. as well as giving slow response to every network device.. this is really not suitable.

  • How will the Time Capsule support IPv6 and coop with the new emerging security threats that will emerge due to the new technical possibilities that IPv6 provide?

How will the Time Capsule support IPv6 and coop with the new emerging security threats that will emerge due to the new technical possibilities that IPv6 provide?

    Cross your fingers and hope.
Obviously if there is any big or known threat Apple will send out a firmware fix.
But the TC is designed to be end user simple device. It has no firewall that is visible at any rate. I don't know that it truly doesn't have a firewall but it is not part of the end user controls.
IMO if you have major security concerns that go beyond end device firewall, which is where Apple do put most of the security, since firewall in the router is plainly not a stop to anybody deliberately downloading an infected file or website, and most end users.. do not want a firewall that prevents them using the web like a business does, where only certain ports are allowed. Everything else tough luck.. you are not allowed to use it. Then TC is unsuitable for you anyway.. buy a proper firewall appliance.

  • I am the only person in my family with a mac. If my family purchases the Time Capsule, will they be able to use it to back up their files with their PCs?

Yeah, I have a macbook but everyone else has a windows computer. If we buy this will they be able to back up their files on the Time Capsule wirelessly as well? Also, if I put a backup onto the Time Capsule, will everyone be able to see what is on my back up, or will I just be able to see the back up for my computer?

Only you will see the backup of your Mac.
will they be able to back up their files on the Time Capsule wirelessly as well?
You will need a special Windows application like Genie Timeline Pro to be able to backup the PCs automatically to the Time Capsule. Otherwise, you must manually copy the files over.
Check with the Genie folks on backup details for the PCs before you buy.

  • Time Capsule Will Not Launch

HELP! My Time Capsule (TC) does not mount on to my desktop. When I try to "back up" manually, I get an exclamation point and a failed notice. I can hear the TC disk spinning, but it never mounts. The only way I can get it to mount onto my desktop is to go to System Preferences, click on Time Machine and press "Change Disk". When I do this, my Time Machine name appears. I then click, enter my password, and then the TM mounts. This seems wrong to me. I thought the beauty of TM is that it works independently. I should also tell you that I always turn off my computer when it's not in use. I'm not sure if that is part of the problem or not. Anyway, whatever help I get will be truly appreciated.

Quite a few are having this particular problem with time machine that backs up to time capsule, that simply does not appear to mount automatically and some go into finder others go into time machines pref's to mount it manually.
I might be wrong in this, but I believe that Time capsule will only mount to the desktop automatically when time machine does it stuff, providing of course that your time machine pref's are set correctly to backup at a certain time. If not then I stand corrected as I have not thoroughly tested this.
A lot of these glitches that appear to be happening is interruption to the auto backup, where one stops the backup in process or the computer is switched off or there is a loose connection to the time capsule, either deliberately or accidently.
When you or accidentally stop Time machine backing up to the Time Capsule and cause an interruption, then Artdirect is right, that you can start off from the previous backup when you start manually as it continue to progress to the end.
Though at least one I know found that this did not work for them and the back-up started from the beginning.
One suggestion it to delete the sparse folders that is created on the time capsule and start over again with the back-up and let Time machine continue its work right to the end, unfortunately for some this has been a nightmare as the backup just suddenly stops for no apparent reason and does not complete it's backup..
Question is now that because of interruptions, and there will be some, especially when ones Time machine is taking forever to backup, and that time machine stops working properly you have to manually back-up again because of the dreaded exclamation mark because it cannot find your time capsule that appears not to be mounted. At least one says that he puts the time capsule as a login item, but this does not work for me.
I hope someone comes up with a solution to this or a work around, but until then you will have to put up with this until Apple perhaps will bring out a firmware update to automatically start the back up after an interruption.

  • Is there ANY possible way to back up my Macbook (2009, running on OSX 10.5.8) using Time Capsule using a cable/not using the internet? I'm willing to come in-store to do this if necessary!

Time Capsule/Time Machine were working fine until about 1-2 years ago when my family started having troubles with the internet provider (AT&T). While on a 2 hr long phone conversation with them trying to fix it, they changed the wireless key code or whatever so Time Capsule could no longer connect to the network (icing on the cake - they didn't even fix the issue). And it had been so long since I had initially set up Time Capsule that I didn't know how to set it up again.
Situation is a bit more complicated now because I'm living on campus in another state, and the campus wifi is very slow/goes in and out a lot. They don't recommend connecting routers to their network bc they say it will make it even worse.
It just makes me really nervous that I haven't backed up my laptop in a couple years. I have thousands of priceless photos and years of hard work that I would very much like to keep safe. I paid all this money to have an external drive and am dying to continue using it! It just doesn't make sense that I can only use it wirelessly - there must be another way. I'm desperate to back up my laptop and will come to Genius bar if necessary to resolve this issue!
    PLEASE HELP!!!

This can be done easily with ethernet.
    Please follow the instructions strictly.
To make it easier I want you to do this overnight so you can turn off all your current connection to the internet.
Just go to the airport fan in to the top right and turn airport off.
Get ethernet cable and connect the laptop to the TC lan port.. ie <-> ones.
Press and hold the reset on the TC for about 10sec. until the front led flashes rapidly.
Open the airport utility.. go to manual setup and change the wireless to off. (so other people around you cannot join your network of one).
Ignore all the errors.. they won't stop the backup working.
Go to the TM and reselect the backup target disk as the TC.
It should start after 2min and run through to completion.
That is it.. for a backup of many GB it might take a few hours.. so make sure the laptop has power plugged in and the sleep is off.. (on early ones I think this is needed but I am a late arrival to the scene).. sleep doesn't affect later OS.

  • Time Capsule will not recognize physical Ethernet connection

I recently purchased a Third Generation 2TB Time Capsule (MC343LL/A). Last night, I attempted to utilize the Time Capsule's internal Base Station to create a new wireless network for home usage via both AirPort Utility on my MacBook, and upon failure, additionally with the AirPort Utility app on my iPhone 4 . After using AirPort Utility to initialize the Time Capsule's primary settings, I was then met with an error upon restart of the Time Capsule, stating "Problem 1 of 1: Ethernet Unplugged". Enter the issue, as the Ethernet cable is in fact physically connected to the WAN port on the back of the Time Capsule. Subsequently, this results in the infamous flashing yellow status LED on the unit, and no network creation. Now, if I take that exact Ethernet cable end and plug it into my AirPort Express' (M9470LL/A and MB321LL/A) they recognize it. An older D-Link wireless router that I have kicking around also recognizes said Ethernet cable and connection, as well as both of my MacBooks (MB402*/B), and my Apple TV (Second Generation). I have attempted to both hard reset and soft reset the Time Capsule a myriad of times, and powered my cable modem on and off an equal number of times. All to no avail. And yes, I have tested all of the above with a plethora of different physical cables. Any and all ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

In your normal setup.. is the TC connected via a wall ethernet port directly back to the modem? Have you plugged the TC directly into the modem with a short 1M patch cable?
We do see occasional instances of gigabit not exchanging auto speed info correctly with fast ethernet. Somewhere you need to be able to lock the speed at one end.. so the auto speed is removed.
That is not possible in the TC.. perhaps the modem offers some way to lock the speed.
Putting a switch inbetween is often the way to fix the problem.. which is exactly what you are doing with the dlink router.. they correctly auto-negotiate the speed. Can you please check if the dlink is 10/100 which speed it linked at. If it linked at 10mbit I would say there could be issues with the WAN port of the TC.

  • I want to connect an Airport Express via WiFi to my internet connection and then connect its LAN port to the WAN port of a Time Capsule. Will then any device connected to the time capsule wirelessly be also connected to the internet?

Background is I can't hook up my time capsule directly to my internet connection via network cable. I tried to extend the network via Wifi, but that did not work. At the moment I have two wireless networks, one with internet connection and another one with my time capsule. So to use time machine I have to change my network all the time.
Can I buy an Airport Express, use is as a client to my internet connection wifi and provide that connection via network cable to my time capsule and all it's wifi clients?

The AirPort Express will connect to your existing wireless network if the network is using WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security settings.
So, it can join the network as a client and then provide an Ethernet signal to your Time Capsule.
Be sure to configure the Time Capsule to operate in Bridge Mode so that it will be operating on the same network.

  • Can I backup my Ipad directly to Time Capsule

Is there a way to backup an Ipad without connecting directly to a Mac or PC?

can I backup my iPad directly to Time Capsule?
    In a word, no.
The iPad backs up to iTunes on your Mac or PC. Then, the Mac backs up in turn using Time Machine to the Time Capsule.
Your other option is to backup the iPad using iCloud.
