Putting audio book tracks in order

I have put an audio book from a cd onto my iPod mini. I am trying to figure out how to be able to listen to the tracks in order. I have eventually renumbered them so from disk to disk the numerical order remains. I have numbered the tracks from 01-120. When I go to listen to the book on the iPod, the tracks are all scrambled. I'm very new with this "toy" and need to know the secrets! Thanks for any help.

I think I have it solved. "It ain't pretty, but it'll do..." I did, indeed, discover that I had to disable the party shuffle option. Then I renumbered the tracks so that instead of each disk beginning with #1, I started where the last disk left off. So disk #2 began with Track 18 and disk #3 began with Track 35. Then I figured out how to create the smart playlist! So now each of the books shows up all together as one playlist, in order, and I think that'll solve the problem. At least it isn't in the order where all the Track 1's are together and all the Track 2's and so forth. It takes quite awhile to get the book transferred to the iPod but at least I can do it. IF there is an easier way, I sure would like to figure that out! Thanks for the suggestions!

  • Playing Imported Audio Books - tracks won't play in order - why?

I import a lot of Audio Book CDs into my iPod Touch for convenience.
The problem is that although the tracks import in order, are correctly named and play in order from iTunes on the PC they almost never play in order on my IPod Touch, Ipod Classic or iPhone.
The Ipod just seems to shuffle playing order. I have disabled shuffle. The iPod is not automatically shuffling due to shaking.
How do I get the tracks to play in the correct orderr.

Here are some hints and guidelines for labeling and organizing audiobooks in iTunes.
Click on the first file of the audiobook imported files list. Press and hold down the “Shift” key while doing so. While you continue to hold this key down, press the down arrow on your keyboard repeatedly until all of the files (chapters) for the first audiobook are selected. At the last file of the first audiobook, click your left mouse button once. You will see all the files from the first to last file highlighted.
Go back into the “File” menu on iTunes and click on “Get Info.” This will bring up a menu of settings you can apply to the highlighted files. Click on the “Options” tab in the settings menu that appears. Make sure the media type is selected as “audiobook.” Next to “Remember position” the option of “Yes” should be indicated.
Next you’ll want to properly label the audiobook audio files. Click on the “Info” tab and fill out relevant information you want to include on the filenames for easy access. Under “album name” put the name of the book and under “artist name” put the name of the author.
Save the settings. Click on “Audiobooks” in the long left hand side menu in iTunes. This should be in the upper left hand area. You will see a list of your newly renamed audiobook files to the right hand side.
Right click on each file individually starting with the first file of the audiobook. Click “Get Info” and under the “Name” section enter “Chapter 01” and repeat this process for each track going in order changing the chapter number by one number higher each time. Chapters 1 through 9 must have a zero before the primary number such as Chapter 01 and Chapter 09.
When you are finished the audiobook will not only be in the proper track order which allows you to play the chapters in order, but the audiobook will be labeled and easy to find.

  • Rename Audio Book Tracks to File Name

I can't find a fix for this anywhere so please help!
I've imported my wife's audio books from 15 cds. The difficulty is that the tracknames cannot be sorted into the right order except by sorting by creation date (I imported them sequentially). This is no use on her iPod Nano that forgets where it was. I've managed to change the actual filenames in the Finder into a proper series (with R-Name). How can I make the track names the same as the filenames on iTunes?
Please help…most her books have 150 to 190 odd tracks (Jane Austen).
    Thanks

I have a 56 folder audiobook of Les Miserables. Every folder has filenames that are identical: Disk 01>Les Miserables - 01.mp3. I am not willing to rename them all - thats just stupid. I listen to audiobooks all the time and this wouldbe my whole life. How do I sort these on itunes and put them into files in my iphone music library? Without folders to organise things, I dont see how people can tolerate iphones. Am I missing something or is the interface really as limited as it seems?

I am having trouble putting my audio book under the audio book folder in the ipod nano.

    Hello Clifforce,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are two things you could do here. First, change the *Media Type* of the audiobook tracks in iTunes to "Audiobook" via the "Get Info" screen under the Options tab.
Under this same tab, you could also tick the "Skip when Shuffling" option for these tracks. When you have finished, sync the updated changes to your iPod.

  • CD songs load as Audio book tracks. How can I get them into  music library?

    Greetings.
Strange. Some songs I've imported into iTunes from CDSs load into the Audiobooks folder. I can't drag them into the music folder. In one case, one song from one CD - but not any of the others - will only import as an audiobook. I can't even import it from my
Can anyone explain why this is happening and how I can get the songs into the music library?
    Thanks.

    In iTunes 8:
Select Track(s) > right click > get info
    Options tab > Media Kind
if you want the track to appear in Music select Music or Audiobook if you want it in the Audiobook tab.
It's also useful to set the Genre of audio books to something common (spoken, audiobook etc)

  • Audio book tracks run together

I have transferred audio books to iTunes and then to my iPod and the tracks run together at the very end of each track. How do I solve this?

    Thanks for the reply.
I probably should have mentioned that the audio book music type is not set to audio book. For all intents and purposes the way I have my books set should make them no different from a normal music album (just with a much higher number of tracks in most cases). If this had been my first time importing an audio book cd/download I may be more inclined to try a 3rd party software to help resolve the issue, however my books used to play fine, as albums, for several years over the course of several ipods and are just now giving me this issue.
I did make an attempt in my own troubleshooting to change one of the problem books' music type to audio book. This did nothing more then move the book out of my normal library view and hide it under the audio book category. The issue of each track acting as it's own album did not change.

  • Unable to burn iTunes Store audio book track to CD - Track to long

I am unable to burn an audio book I purchased to CD because the track is to long, 2 hours and 8 minutes. I tried setting the start and stop times to be less than 1 hour, but I still get the message. How can I get the track burned to a set of CDs?

    I found a work around.
    1. Select the long track and using get info
    2. Set the start and stop times and check the check boxes next to them.
    3. Create a new play list of the selected track.
    4. Burn a CD using the new playlist.

  • Audio books tracks

I have had some co-workers download a few audio books from the iTunes music store.
When they downloaded the book it came as one long track. Are all the audio books like that? Or do they download with each chapter being a track?
If they do download as one track how does it work with burning to CD? It would be a pain to have a audio book on CD and not be able to skip forward to the next chapter.
I am very unfamiliar with how audio books work from the iTunes music store so if anyone can give some insight, it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • How do I sort books in series order?

I have several books by the same author (20+).
These are in three series (and sub series)
The library sorts by AUTHOR just fine, but then puts the books in ALPHABETICAL order.
The SERIES order in not ALPHABETICAL.
The last (latest) book starts with "A", but the first one starts with an "O"
Is there a way to change this?
Can I change the file name and add a NUMBER in front of the name to force a sort?
    Thank you in advance.
    G l Heaton

I asked the same question a couple of months ago ("niceto have...") - no reply
The best I came up with was sortingby publication date - at least that gets them in the right order if not in series / sequence order.
The alternative is a pain - down load them in series order then sort by download date.

  • HT2673 error in downloading audio book from itunes

I downloaded audio book but it will not play stating a message that my iphone is not connected to internet which it is connected

    Hello Bobejoe,
You will want to change the file type to Audiobook for each audio book track in iTunes. To do this, locate the tracks you wish to change the *Media Type* for. Then right->click on each of those tracks and choose "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. From there, head over to the Options tab. There is a section labeled *Media Type* with a drop down box next to it. Go ahead and choose Audiobook, and then sync the updated changes to your iPod.
That should do the trick for you.

  • I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod shuffle it rearranged the tracks so that they are in the wrong order.  How can I put them in the order they appear in the book?

I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod Shuffle it put the chapters in the wrong order i.e. Chap 1, Chap 10, Chap 11 etc. rather than Chap 1, Chap 2, Chap 3 ...  How can I get it to put them in the order they appear in the book?

First, we need to know if the audiobook chapters are being treated by iTunes as music files or as audiobooks. If they are not audiobooks purchased from the iTunes store, they might be getting "shuffled". You will need to look at "File" - "Properties" (I think - I don't use iTunes under Windows - or right-click on the file and choose "properties") and look at the media type. If it is "Music", change it to "Audiobook". If this is not the problem, or does not fix anything, please post back.
Actually, looking at your post again, a second thought occurs to me - assuming there are less than 100 chapters in the book, just renaming them with a leading zero on the first nine chapters might do it. A computer will alphabetically sort filenames in the order you quote (1, 10, 11, 12, 13, ... 2, 21, etc.) but a leading zero will fix that (01, 02, 03 ... 10, 11, 12)

  • When adding audio books to ipod either manually or by syncing, the tracks seem to be in the right order but they play back in a random order which means you can't listen to the book. How do you overcome this? (Bill)

I have tried adding audio books to my ipod classic, both by syncing and manually. The tracks come up in the right order in the menu but when listening they will often play (not always) in a random order. How do I overcome this, as it is making listening to books impossible.  (Tarraganda)

I have found the problem myself when I got into the Settings. Somehow it had been put onto shuffle all music files and once I turned that off it reverted to normal. I realised something basic was wrong when our other ipod that had been synced at the same time didn't have a problem. However, I had put all the books on manually, one album at a time as problems occurred when syncing the whole library, including multiple albums for the same piece of music.
