Putting Audiobooks in "Audiobooks"

I've got a question about ripping audiobooks in iTunes 7.02.16 for Windows XP.
I've been going through my CD collection and putting it on iTunes, but I'm having trouble with my audio books. When I import them into iTunes, they get installed into the "Music" section of my Library. Obviously, I would prefer to have them under the "Audiobooks" section. I have tried going into the Info window for the relevant tracks and selecting "Genre: Audiobooks", but this does not help. Is there a way to move items into different Library sections?
Thanks

Here are the steps for importing an audiobook CD. The result will be a single audiobook (.m4b) file that will be bookmarkable and will show up in the Audiobook library.
Edit > Preferences> Advanced> Importing
Choose "AAC" & "Spoken Podcast."
Put the CD into iTunes.
Select all the tracks.
Go to the Advanced menu and select "Join CD Tracks."
Click the Import button.
Select the resulting file in iTunes, and press Ctrl-R to locate it on your hard drive.
Change the filename extension from ".m4a" to ".m4b." Now drag the file back to iTunes. It will appear in the Audiobooks library. It will say "protected," but it is not protected.

  • Play audiobook drm audiobook on my

i have an eaudio book http://madrono.stockton.lib.ca.us:23...sicSearch.aspx drm'd .wma that plays on my windows media player . i used wmp to 'synchronize' it to my zen, its a 50mb file and took about /2hr, so it must have been doing something special. but can't play it on the zen?? "there is a problem playing this audio" thats really helpful.
thought i jumped thru all the hoops here but no luck. my library even publishes a list of 'tested' players and my zen is on the list.
does anybody know the cryptic secret sauce recipe how this is supposed to work.

I'm running iTunes 9 and I have a similar situation with my new iPad. Although if I take the Audiobook and I change the Media Kind under Options from Audiobook to Music, I'm able to sync the file.
I believe it's something with the new version of iTunes.

  • How to get cd audiobooks to Audiobooks in iTunes?

I moved a book I have on (16) cds to my iTunes library using my normal settings, but I don't want it showing up under music - is there a way to move it to the audiobook category somehow? They are in 192kps mp3 format.
    Thanks!

right click on the file in iTunes and open up the options. When you get the the screen that your able to change album name, artist name you will look near the bottom. (I'm at work so I can't tell you exactly what it will say) There should be a drop down box that says "Genre" or something to that nature and will give you options to change it to. Change it to audiobooks.
Also if you want the audiobook to start where you left off previously you will need to go the next tab on the top of the options menu and select "start from stopping point".
Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but hopefully this will help.

  • How do i Add An Audiobook file to the Audiobook Library Folder????

I have an audiobook I've downloaded and want to put it in the folder under Library called Audiobooks so they are all together. How do I do this??? The Audiobook is currently in my music folder. Both the audiobooks and music folders are under the Library folder. I can't seem to move this file into the audiobook folder from the music folder. How is this done?????

You didn't indicate the source of your audiobook, so I'll try to cover both bases.
First base: If you bought your audiobook from Audible.com and have authorized your computer correctly, the audiobook should go into the built-in Audiobooks folder automagically after you've imported it. This is how I purchase audiobooks – I buy them from Audible, download them directly from Audible's site, then import them into iTunes. Audible spoken word files end with .aa .
Second base: If you did not get your audiobook from the iTunes Store or Audible, it appears you're out of luck. The Audiobooks folder in the Source Pane is for audiobooks from Audible or the iTunes Store only:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304706
However, you can make your own smart playlist for your audiobooks. Use 'Get Info' (command-I), choose 'Info', and set the genre of your audiobooks to 'Audiobook' or 'Spoken Word' (or whatever suits you). Then, make a smart playlist to catch them and ignore the default Audiobooks folder from then on.
When you sync your iPod, that playlist will show up under Music/Playlists, not on the iPod's Main Menu. You can then change the settings on your iPod to not show the prefab Audiobooks folder on the Main Menu.
It's not an elegant solution, but you'll have all your audiobooks together.

  • My Macbook 10.5.8 won't read audiobook discs.

It reads CD's and DVD's fine, but, when I put in an audiobook disc it sometimes spins but never catches or just spins and spits it out. However, sometimes, it reads the discs just fine, but, only certain titles. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Apple offers some basic advice on troubleshooting this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1381
I realize your situation may seem different, but see if these tips are helpful.
A PRAM reset would be in order if the former doesn't work.

If none of this works, it may be that there's an issue with the keyboard or software. In that case, you'd best visit your local Apple Store/Genius Bar for help.

  • Ipod nano audiobook download from CD

I have a book on CD that I want to listen to on my ipod nano. I downloaded the cd (7 in all) in my library. Then transfered to my nano. The chapters downloaded into "songs" rather than audiobooks and the chapters where all out of order.
Am I missing a setting - my nano is porgramed with "shuffle" off.
    Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Right click the files in itunes and go to get info. hit the options tab. Change it at the bottom to an audiobook.
That should put them in audiobooks.
    If not, see this...

As for the order, you may need to put them in a playlist. Also, try going to music-->albums and see if they show up in there in order.

  • Fuzzy output when I convert mp3 to aac (to make audiobook)

    That's pretty much it.
I have imported CDs of audio books that I want to put on my iphone.
I am converting the mp3s to AAC - then changing the extension from mp4a to mp4b so that it is filed in the audio book section.
But during the conversion the quality of the track goes from clear to fuzzy. (like white noise in the background)
How do I get round this?

but unfortunately I cant file them in the audiobooks section like that.
Why not? That's exactly what changing the *Media Kind:* does. Puts them under Audiobooks.

  • My audiobooks import question is different from others'.

I have problem with this 80G iPod again. This time is the Audiobooks thing. I imported some of my audio books into the iTunes 7, it worked okay. All the files were put into the Audiobooks section. And I can choose a single book in the mini browser. However, when I imported the audio books into my 80G iPod, they all fell into the same and only category - Audiobooks (there's no sub-category,). As a result of this, I can't choose a certain book to listen to like I do with iTunes. Is there any one who knows how to solve this problem?
P.S. I can't find my TV Shows in my iPod, either.

First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

  • HT203167 where do i find my previously purchased audiobooks?

where do i find my previously purchased audiobooks?

We do not put them anywhere. iTunes puts them somewhere. It's not not in iTunes. Your answer was unhelpful. Some say they are put into the audiobooks app. If I purchase a book from my iPad how the **** am I suppose to know where it goes? I just can't it. Apple does not tell you where it goes. This is one of many flaws that are cracking the Apple mystique.

  • The audiobook I downloaded will only play for 20 minutes then quits. Never had this happen before. How do I fix?

Downloaded an audiobook onto my iPod Touch and listened to the first 20 minutes of it. Then it just stopped playing. No matter how I tried to get back to where it left off, it would only begin from the start. I tried putting the same audiobook onto another device and it does the same thing. So, then I tried to listen to the story through iTunes on my desk top---- same thing. How can I fix this?

It sounds like the file you downloaded has been corrupted in some way, although you should check using Get Info > Options tab that it doesn't just have a truncated stop time. Use the report a problem link in your account history and explain the circumstances. Someone from the store should help you get the issue resolved with a fresh download.

  • Sharing an audiobook

I've downloaded an audiobook directly onto my iPod Touch does anyone know how I can put the same audiobook onto my iPad and my Ipod Nano so I can if I want to listen to it on those machines?
Or is there an idiot sheet describing how to do this?
    Thanks.

You should be able to redownload it to your iTunes library on your computer and directly to the iPad by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Once in the iTunes library you can sync it to the Nana and iPod.
You cn also get it in the iTunes library by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer

  • How can I make an audiobook purchased from another source show up in iTunes as an audiobook and not as music?

How can I make an audiobook purchased from another source show up in iTunes as an audiobook and not as music?
They chapters are mp3 files. Changing the genre to "audiobook" or "audiobooks" does help.
I am sure this question will come up a lot, since the book in question is "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," purchased from Pottermore.com.

The one thing I would add to the instructions above is that the "Media Kind" menu is on the "Option" pane in the "Get Info" Window. This procedure has allowed me not only to make imported audiobooks show up as audiobooks, but imported podcasts show up as podcasts.

  • IPod Audiobook Chapters

I used to know the trick for displaying audiobooks in an organized fashion on my iPod.  You removed "Audiobooks" from the main menu, then navigated through Genre > Audiobook instead.  There you would see your books grouped nicely by author \ title.
Now I have a new iPod.  The same books that appear organized on my old iPod do not appear that way on my new iPod.  They are both Classics, the newer is 160 GB (PC, not Mac).  On this device, under "Genre", I don't see my Audiobook Genre at all!
I'm pretty sure the files themselves are fine (Media Kind: "Audiobooks", Genre "Audiobook", etc...) because I can still view them correctly on the older iPod.
    Any suggestion??
    Many thanks!
    Lindsay

    Thanks, Dud.
Shuffle is off, but the tracks are still being played in random order. Since the cd is already imported - and I've returned the cd's to a library in a different state - I unfortunately can't use Aldo's helpful advice (although I certainly will in the future!) I tried renaming the tracks in order (1,2,3, etc) but that didn't work. Argh!
