Putting .avi Files on a Jukebox Zen Xt

Is this possible? When i goto transfer the file i want i check the box saying .AVI files are allowed yet it still rejects them. Any idea why and if it's allowed?

I believe you can store AVIs on your Xtra, but not play them. The only software that will allow you to store them is Nomad Explorer. If these are AVI audio files, convert them to an Xtra-friendly format, such as WAV or MP3.

• Putting .avi files onto DVD

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this question (and I can't seem to find any other threads about it), but I have a bunch of TV Shows in .avi format on my computer. I'd like to be able to place them on a DVD where I can simply watch them on my TV or through a DVD drive. Is there a way to do that with iDVD or is it iMovie that I need? Thanks for any help!

I might be able to help...

a post discussing playing .avi files. Download the divx component to enable Quicktime to play majority of .avi files. Anything that Quicktime still can't play can be played in VLC.
I had 3 .avi movies, one widescreen, and couldn't burn them in iDVD. They previewed, tho, so I converted the widescreen into .mov using Quicktime (Pro only?). Quality was still good. Without converting the other 2 .avi files, I easily burned all 3 (1 .mov and 2 .avi) using iDVD.
My theory is that iDVD can burn .avi files, just as long as 1)they play perfectly in Quicktime and 2)at least one .mov file is included in the burning.
But I've no idea why this worked, and it was the only time I tried it, so it might not work. Although the 3 .avi files were exact same format (DivX 6.0)
You can use an iPod converter, like iSquint, to convert any .avi file into iPod format, which obviously plays in quicktime. Just make sure H.264 is unchecked, since it degrades quality for TV viewing.
oh yeah, iDVD burning and Quicktime converting takes really long! I had to leave my iMac on overnight once for each.
Hope this helped

• Creative Media Player for Creatuve Jukebox Zen

?I have an old Zen Jukebox and I used Creative Media Player to put music onto it from CDs. Unfortunately some time ago my computer completely died and I'm unable to retrieve anything off it. I have searched everywhere for the disc and can't find it.
I have downloaded the current available options (3 and 5) but when I plug in my MP3 it is not recognised.
I haven't been able to add music for some time. On contacting customer support they said they were sorry but couldn't help.
I am thinking about finally buying a new MP3 (it will be a Creative) and I want to be able to transfer EVERYTHING from my old one to my new one. Even if i don't get a new MP3 there are loads of songs and CDs I want to?add to my old one?
Can anyone help with how to make the newer CMPs recognise my Zen, or where i can find the origional CMP?
Thanks for your time, people.

Older Creative HDD-based players with special drivers (PDE), such as the Jukebox Zen,?were not supported past Windows XP. ?(thanks coachop94) describes someone's effort to get PDE drivers to work in Vista; try at your own risk. If that doesn't work, you'll have to transfer your files off the Jukebox Zen using an older computer (XP or earlier).
Also, if you have MediaSource 5 you should also have installed the appropriate plug-in from the Jukebox Zen support page.

• Newbie, help with .AVI files!

I am trying to put .AVI files on my imovie hd, but when they eventually load there is nothing there but blackness. I am trying to get these files on imovie hd so that i can make my own dvd. I really dont know what i might need to do. Do I convert the avis to something? If so, what program would be used?
Thanks
Nick

Hi Nicholas,
ffmpeg is a very mighty conversion tool (besides the pro $$$ tools as Compressor), but as you experienced, no that convenient; indeed you hav eto install manually all that libraries, on ffmpegs webiste that is all discrbed in detail.. I can't guide you, I'm using an older version and it was a painstaking process of trial&error... ;-))
BUT...
you haven't told us, what codec is INSIDE the avi... avi is, as .mov, just a media container, containing many flavors of compression codecs, from sorenson, to mp4, from pic to divx....
you haven't told where these avis come from (... or you don't dare to tell us ), but there's a high chance, that it contains just plain mpeg1/2....
in that case, there's some other, much more convenient tool on the market,
have a look here for Streamclip, it accepts .avi containers too....
it's free, for mpeg1 it works "as is"; I would give that a try, before juggling with encoders... ;-)))
you would help us with diagnosis&therapy, when telling us where these avis come from...

• Creative Jukebox ZEN problems w/nForce

I'm having a problem with uploading mp3 files into Creative Jukebox ZEN. After several tracks the transfer gets aborted. The problem occurs both over USB and IEEE1394. It also seems to be application independent (happens in Creative PlayCenter, Notmad and Media Player).
Creative Tech Support's position is that there is a problem with nForce and IRQ sharing. They claim that the problem of aborted transfers is caused by nForce not properly handling concurrent IRQ calls of devices sharing the same IRQ (there are plenty devices sharnig the IRQ11 on my system, which should be normal and should work without any problem to my knowing - nForce networking adapter, nForce audio processing unit, GeForce graphics card, Modem, IEEE1394 controller and USB and USB2.0 controllers).
They advised to unplug all USB devices to minimize calls by the USB controllers. This did not solve the problem entirely but increased the stability of transfers (now roughly 100's of songs get uploaded in one go insted of 10's).
I wonder where the problem could be, because none of my other devices has similar problems (e.g. transfers of photos from my Olympus digital camera works flawlessly). Could it be nForce driver problems? BIOS settings? (is it worth trying to upgrade the BIOS? - about the only thing I haven't tried) Some kind of ZEN's driver timing problems, maybe?
Any opinions?
My system:
MSI K7N420 Pro (bios v2.30)
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
512MB RAM (DDR 266MHz PC2100)
GeForce3 Ti 200
Windows 2000 Professional SP3
latest MSI drivers (over Live Update)
nForce Platform driver 2.0

I can tell you one thing that many of us here did to open up IRQs for use, and that was to enable APIC in the motherboard BIOS. Gives you 22 IRQS to play with. Now as to what you have to do to get Windows 2000 to recognize and take advantage of this, I'll leave to others. I have windows XP myself.

• Nomad jukebox zen xtra - cannot create file w message when trying totransfer fi

My 30G nomad jukebox zen xtra was working great until recently. Now when I power my player up after a day of no use, it takes 0-5 minutes to rebuild the library. When I begin to transfer files using Media source after a few transfers I get the "unable to create file" message and can no longer transfer. I have tried disk clean up and re-booting to no avail. I tried installing the new firmware and this worked for about 80 songs and then I began getting the same problems. I have completely cleaned my PC of adware and spyware and this has no effect. I love my player but am becoming a little frustrated. Would anyone have any ideas? This all started when I turned on my player one day and all of the music was gone. I re-transfereed everything back and later noticed that I had two of everything. I deleted all of the duplicates and from that point on it began to take 5 minutes to rebuild the library but I could still transfer files with no problems. One last thing, when I run disk cleanup in rescue mode, once it gets to 99% done it stalls there for about 0-5 minutes before going back to the rescue mode menu.
scott

i experienced the same problem. until 2 weks ago it worked fine. but a visited the support site and found out that all the software was new. so i downloaded the new versions. even the new firmware with the e at the end. i was at the edge to smash my monitor when i found out that after the firmware update the sound was hearing so quiet. after rebuil os and searching 2 hour on the net for the previous firmware release, prior to E release, i solve the sound problem.
but another appeard. cannot copy files on the player. if i choose to delete them, they disappear. i turn off the zen nx, turn back on and the files were still there. practically all the copy/delete/new folder/paste function were blocked. and the same problem on WIN XP and win 2000. all this because i installed the new versions for nomad explorer, nomad mediacenter, nomad plugin for media center.
solution: uninstalled all the creative software. put the original cd in the dri've. installed all the original software. it was running perfect. so, i could operate again in the data files on the player.
so i thought it was the driver problem since the media library i could access just fine. so i kept the original driver but installed all the new software (mediasource, nomad explorer, nomad zen plugin for mediasource).
guess what? the accesing proble appeard again. i think that the better solution is to stick to the original software.
and one last find. after the E firmware adveture, i experince what other are and was praing not to happen to me. the battery is lasting much much short period. and the green light if you look carefully is fluctuating in intensity. this was not happening until i burn the new E firmware. .0.02e. now after the rebuild os and writng a firmware it displays .0.02 without the E. the sound is like before. 24 damages your ears but the battery problem stills persit. it driving me crazy.

• NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra file recovery from working harddri

My USB port on my NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra is basically non-functional. The drive works fine so i'm not trying to recover "corrupted" files, just ones that exist on the drive... Is there any way I can access the files on the hard drive directly if I remove it from my Nomad Is there any way to use a hard drive connector (from a USB case) where the board plugs into the drive and the other end connects via USB to my computer (which has my Nomad software on it's) As the USB connector on the Nomad isn't working, is there any way i can get my music off the drive
Thanks!

Does this happen with all tranfers or any certain audio files? Have you try reinstalling the driver or try running Cleanup in Rescue mode.

• Putting big files onto your zen tou

Hey there,
yesterday I installed the zen touch playsforsure firmware & explorer and of course tried to get some files onto the zen. Pictures and small files worked, but when I tried to put a file of 3,5 GB on it, the zen gave an "unknown error" and it didn't do anything. Why isn't this possible?
(And, no, the zen is not full , i've got 5 GB left)
Greetings!

Although I'm not sure about what the exact size limit is for the file system I take it its 2gb , but if you haven't already done so Microsoft has a hotfix, for MTP players, for files which encounter an error when attempting to transfer it from the player to the computer.
Download it <a href='http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;89536' target=_blank>here
Files will transfer fine to the player but encounter an error going the other way, download the hotfix and you should be fine if you encounter that problemMessage Edited by DM on -2-2005 09:3 PM

• AVI files stops before the end, Zen

I recently bought a 6G Zen player and pretty happy about it. I updated the firmware weeks ago, everything is fine. I found proper softwares to convert FLV files to AVI. The final AVI file is fine, sound is synchronized, the whole file is there.
My problem is that when I transfer the file to the Zen, or to an SD card, the video doesn't play until the end. It stops and the player returns to the video list menu. Sometimes 5 seconds before the end, sometimes 30 seconds, the time is not always the same. On the PC, the file was playing correctly.
Anyone has an idea why ? Thanks for the help.

You probably have end actions on the chapter points. Remove them the end actions from the chapter markers, and see if that fixes it.

• No driver found - Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - WinXP

I have used my Zen Xtra for over 2 years now, with the same PC I am currently having problems with. I recently had to do a complete reinstall of Windows (note that I have done at least 2 other complete reinstalls during the life of my Zen Xtra, with no problems). Windows Device Managers sees the NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra, but with the yellow question mark and exclamation point. Each attempt at driver installation results in the same problem. The driver ("JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE") installs completely, I'm told to reconnect my device so the driver can take effect. When I do, the device is still marked in Device Manager with exclamation point and yellow question mark, and Windows continues to ask if it can find and install the driver. I have told it not to (knowing that I just installed Creative's own driver), with no success, and other times let Windows try to install the driver (hoping it would find the Creative driver that was just installed). No luck. I have even done another complete reinstall of Windows, and tried to install the driver before any other program or hardware installations into my system. No luck. Note that there are no hardware changes between now and when I have done other complete Windows reinstallations. It just no longer accepts the Creative driver. I have also tried to install the driver in safe mode, with the same results. I have also completely removed the Zen Xtra (showing hidden devices in the Device Manager), and tried to reinstall. Firmware version of Zen Xtra was upgraded over a year ago to 2.0.03.
Specifics:
Windows XP Pro SP2
38GB free hard dri've space
Zen Xtra firmware version: 2.0.03

I have the same problem. But when i try to installl it it says he is missing an .nfo file.
I removed WMP and reinstalled WM0 because is crap.
I have Windows XP SP2
I have the newst firmware on it.
Can somebody help me with this because it's annoying not to put any new music on your mp3 player.
I never experienced this before even after formatting my HD.
Almost the same problem as fritzm but not completely because het gets an different error.
I have installed the CD but that doesnt work either.
I have installed the software from the website but that didnt help because he doesnt recognize my player.
Please help!!

• Windows 7 Support Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra

I have a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra MP3 player. The hard dri've crashed on my old computer ( which used the wiindows XP operating system). I bought a laptop which uses Windows 7. I don't seem to be able to find a way to access the MP3 player with the windows 7 computer. I don't need?a lot of functionality. I would be happy to put tags on MP3 files with some other software, if only there was a way to get this laptop to talk to the MP3 player. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ed

If you can find a PC running Windows XP with Windows Media Player 0 installed you can install the?Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.0.03 - this will turn the player into an MTP device so you will not need to install any special drivers/software to copy music or other files to it (as long as the computer has Windows Media Player 0 or later installed - so Vista or 7 will be fine, as will up-to-date versions of XP).
I could not get the firmware installer to work with Windows Media Player installed on XP (it claims the player is not plugged in) but Windows Media Player 0 works reliably. As Windows Vista comes with WMP and Windows 7 with WMP 2 you'll need to find an XP machine to install the firmware, though once installed you can use the player with any modern OS.
As I run Vista on my PC I had to resort to installing XP in VirtualBox to run the firmware installer but I would strongly recommend trying to find a real PC before resorting to emulators!
Edit: If possible, back up your files before updating the firmware - if I remember correctly updating to the PlaysForSure firmware does delete all of your existing files, but even if I haven't remembered correctly it's worth doing just in case..!

• Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra stops working with XP following Windows Media Player 11 Beta Installat

Yesterday I was very pleased to find that my Creative Zen Xtra (model DAP-HD00) portable media player is a PlaysForSure capable device. Creative Labs, on November 9, 2005, released the Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware v2.0.03. I installed this firmware (I had to install the Creative ZenJukebox Driver v.30.03 first to get Windows to recognize the device). Once the firmware was upgraded, Windows began recognizing the Zen Xtra as a MTP device and life was good. I was able to synchronize it with both Napster To Go and Windows Media Player 0.
After this, I went ahead and installed Windows Media Player Beta, which I just downloaded yesterday as well.
From a functional standpoint, WMP seems to run just fine. However, when I connected the Creative Zen Xtra (with its PlaysForSure firmware), Windows redetected the hardware. It first showed "Creative Jukebox Zen Xtra" in the tooltip, followed by "MTP Device" in the new hardware tooltip. Finally, Windows announced that there was a problem installing my new hardware and that it may not work properly.
Sure enough, when I went into Device Manager, my Zen Xtra was showing as an MTP Device with an exclamation point on it. More specifically, it specified the status of, "This device cannot start (Code 0)."
Prior to the installation of Windows Media Player, the Creative Zen Xtra showed in device manager with the following characteristics under the heading "Windows Portable Devices":
Name: NOMAD Jukebox Zen XtraDriver Version: 5.2.0.0 dated 8/30/2004Digitally Signed by Microsoft Windows Component Publisher
Driver File Details:C:\Windows\system32\wpdusb.sys - v5.2.3802.3802 built by dnsrv(bld4act)
Windows Media Player changed this to the following (the device now shows up under "Portable Devices"):
Name: MTP DeviceDriver Version: 5.2.5326.4762 dated 2/22/2006Digitally Signed by Microsoft Windows Component Publisher
Driver File Details:C:\Windows\system32\wpdusb.sys - v5.2.5358.4827 (WMP_.060509-2009)C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\wudfrd.sys - v6.0.5348.0(winmain(wmbla).0604-339)
The file wudfrd.sys is NOT digitally signed in this case.
As of now, my Zen Xtra is completely unusable on this system, and I need to sync it with my laptop for the time being, which still has WMP 0 installed on it.
Is this a bug with WMP beta? Is it a problem with my firmware? Since this is PlaysForSure compliant firmware, and it worked flawlessly with Napster and WMP 0 (before the MTP driver was updated), it would seem to be a WMP beta issue. I'd like to hear more official confirmation on the subject, however.
Some general details about my system are:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2Verified GENUINE Microsoft operating system using Genuine Advantage ValidationIntel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2 GHz, Hyper-Threaded processor2.00 GB RAM
Windows Media Player Version: .0.5358.4827Napster Version: 3.6.0.7 (US)
Any recommendations? Fixes? Some have suggested rolling back the WMP installation, but I would like to consider this option only as an absolute last resort.
Best regards,Matt

Ok, this worked out accidentally - but happily
I first installed the driver - not the media source - but the driver for the device.
After that the windows device manager yellow sign disappeared - apparently the device driver was registered by windows.
Then I Installed Mediasource 5 - the installation went thru fine.
Does anyone have any recommended updates to install, please also advise what benefits.
Thanks.
