Putting back from the trash

for some reason, I accidentally deleted 500 pictures into the trash. Is there any way I can "put back" without having to do them one at a time? When I try to select two or more at a time, it doesn't seem to work.
huge thanks
David

Hello David,
but it should work like this. Even if you select the whole content at once, ctrl-click the selection, and then select "Put Back" from the pop-up menu, you should be able to put all images back at once. In what way does it not work? Do you get an error massage or does Aperture just ignore the command?
There may be some trouble with your Aperture library. Try the Trouble shooting Basics: delete preferences and repair permissions:

  • Where is the "put back" from the trash command

Control click, etc does not reveal it.Is it still available in 10.9?

Unfortunately there is no put back on the contextual menu with control click, right click or command return. I am mostly returning plist files.
My startup disk wants me to enter all kinds of things.
Time machine backup does not restore!
How did the files get into the Trash? Why did you move them there? What problem did you trouble shoot?
Do you remember where you removed the preferences from? Then move them back by dragging them from the Trash to the folder were tehy belong.

  • How do I get events back from the trash? 10.0.3

Trying to move some of my older projects and events to a backup drive.  I created a new library on the drive, but I could not move anything to the new project. So I copied events by dragging thme into the new library.  Then I moved the events to the trash.  However, I cannot move projects. How? (See a recent question about this.)  I then found that my projects (which I cannot move) have no content (because I have put the events on the trash.  But there is nothing about the trash, except putting things in it.  I can't even see how to empty it, let alone retrieve from it.

Well, I've found out how to delete the trash - close iMovie. Ouch!

  • Removing a LOT of items from the trash..

Selected a BUNCH of pictures from a file on the external HD and was attempting to move them somewhere else but they ended up in the trash on accident..
I'm trying to import them into Aperture (or just put them back) but when I select more than 2 I get the "circle with a line through it" telling me that I cant do it.  If I drag one at a time or just 2 at at time they will move.
HELP...    There's like 5,000 pictures in there that need to come back out.  Moving 2 at a time will take for EVER....

The system won't let you do anything with files while they are in the trash except put them back. So you can't import them into Aperture until you get them out of the trash. I've never had the system refuse to put put items I had in the trash no matter how many I selected, of course I never had that many at one time.
You're using the put back command correct? You highlight a bunch of files and right click (or control click) the file(s) and select put back from the contextual menu?
If that's not working then its really a OS X question rather then an Aperture question. You would be better off posting to one of the OS X groups.
    good luck

  • I accidentally removed the trash can from the dock. Where do I find the trash app to put back on the dock

I accidently removed the trash can from the dock. Where do I find the trash app to put back on the dock?

I know this is pretty old but I wanted to add this for anyone else who might come across this thread.
I have PathFinder on my system and there is an option to add the "Remove from Dock" contextual menu items to the Finder and Trash. I accidetally removed the Trash icon, and to get it back do this:
    1. Open Terminal.app from the "Utilities" folder in the main Applications folder. Or simply open Launchpad or Spotlight and start typing Terminal.
    2. Copy and paste the below command exactly, be very careful with Terminal as it can cause terminal damage to your computer if used incorrectly.
    killall Dock
Your Desktop background may flash and the Dock will disappear and will repear after a short pause.
You should now have your Finder and Trash icons back.
    Hope this helps,

  • I am locked out of my computer (macbook air) I just got it back from the apple store and they reset it. I put in a new password, and now it doesnt let me log in anymore. Command R doesnt work, all i hear is a sound, but nothing happens.

I just got it back from the apple store and they reset it (becuase it kept shutting down and not turning back on).
I put in a new password because i needed to start over from factory settings, but now it doesnt let me log in anymore. (I don't know if this is because it doesnt accpet my password, or I forgot my password in less than 5 minutes, or because when i typed in my new password, i typed it in wrong twice)
Command R doesnt work, all i hear is a sound, but nothing happens.

What I don't understand is why it is rejecting a password I am creating.
Perhaps the password you are creating is too short, or has characters that are not allowed, or is not secure enough because it is a word in a dictionary.
FileVault may have standards for what it considers an acceptable password. If the password is part of the 128-bit encryption scheme, it might have to be 16 characters, for example. (Don't know if that is true, but it's a possibility.) Check your documentation for password requirements.

    Thanks in advance!

Without providing details on exactly what you did it is hard to provide an answer.  It's like me saying, "This chocolate cake I made tastes wrong," but not providing the recipe for review.  Maybe it was the garlic in that particular recipe.
If iTunes is successfully using a previous library which you rename to iTunes Library.itl then that is now the current library.
Have you restarted your computer and then tried emptying the trash?

Since I started using Lion (10.7.2) I'm prompted to type my password if I want to add a folder or put something in the trash. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

It sounds like the permissions on your Home folder are snarky.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/11/15/repair-user-permissions-in-mac-os-x-lion/
Restart Lion and hold down the Command and R keys.
You will boot into the Repair Utilities screen. On top, in the Menu Bar click the Utilities item then select Terminal.
In the Terminal window, type resetpassword and hit Return.
The Password reset utility launches, but you’re not going to reset the password. Instead, click on the icon for your Mac’s hard drive at the top. From the drop-down below it, select the user account where you are having issues.
At the bottom of the window, you’ll see an area labeled ‘Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs’. Click the Reset button there.
The reset process takes a couple of minutes. When it’s done, quit the programs you’ve opened and restart your Mac. Notice that ‘Spotlight’ starts re-indexing immediately.

  • How do I override "error code -61" when attempting to put things in the Trash? Cannot empty Trash or use Secure Empty Trash.

How do I override "error code -61" when attempting to put items in the Trash?  Cannot empty Trash or use Secure Empty Trash. I have a MacBook OS X 10.5.8

The reason why some of the files are blocking the trash from emptying is because of specific ".app" files from third party companies like Adobe products. Not the user files or the various help documents but instead the actual mother program. Here's how to fix this problem:
    1) remove from the trash all the actual software programs like Photoshop, InDesign, DreamWeaver and so on and put them on the desktop.
    2) Command "I" (info) and when the dialog box opens go to the "Name & Extension" text box and remove the ".app" from the software name. Example: Photoshop.app change to Photoshop.
    3) the program icon will change to a "folder icon".
    4) put the folder icon back into the trash and you should be able to now empty the trash.
If you continue to get the error code 8003 it's because you may still have one or more software programs in the trash that needs to go through this process. Remember - it's not the user files or help documents or supporting files that is causing this but instead the "actual product programs".

  • How can I put files into the trash without login every time?

Every time I want to put items in the trash, after dragging things to the basket, I have to sign in.  Why? Can I set the defaul to allow me to do so without login?

The procedure below will reset the permissions of a user's home folder in OS X 10.7.4 or later, including 10.8 or later. If you're running an earlier version of 10.7, update to the latest version first. This procedure should not be used under OS X versions older than 10.7.4.
Back up all data before you begin.
    Step 1
Click the Finder icon in the Dock. A Finder window will open.
    Step 2
Press the following key combinations, in the order given:
    Command-3
    Shift-command-H
Command-I (the letter "I" as in "Info.")
The Info window of your home folder will open.
    Step 3
Click the lock icon in the lower right corner and authenticate with the name and login password of an administrator on the system. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
    Step 4
In the Sharing & Permissions section of the window, verify that you have "Read & Write" privileges. If not, use the "+" and "-" buttons in the lower left corner to make the necessary changes.
    Step 5
By default, the groups "staff" and "everyone" have "Read Only" privileges. With those settings, the files at the top level of your home folder will be readable by other local users. You can change the privileges to "No Access" if you wish, but then your Public and Drop Box folders will be inaccessible to others. Most likely, you don't need to change these settings.
    Step 6
If there are entries in the Sharing & Permissions list for users or groups other than "me," "staff," and "everyone," delete them.
    Step 7
Click the gear icon at the bottom of the Info window and select Apply to enclosed items... from the drop-down menu. Confirm. The operation may take several minutes to complete. When it does, close the Info window.

  • Can't Put Back Files in Trash

    Hi there,
I want to "Put Back" a folder in the Trash from my paritioned drive external drive. I believe the folder was put in the Trash by the XHDD automatically. The drive easily has enough free space.
Go to Trash > Control click on Folder > Put Back ...and nothing happens
One idea I have why this may  is it: When I press Cmd+I and Get Info up on the Folder in the Trash, I am told its from the parition named "Back Disk [Time Machine]" which unsurpirsingly is I use exculsively for Time Machine backups. But I am quite sure this Folder "Storage Disk" partition. There is no file of the same name on my internal hard drive for TM backup.
It is worth mentioning that regardless of what needs to be to remove the Folder from the Trash I want it to end up on the "Storage Disk" for safe keeping
    Any suggestions?
    All help much appreciated

Boot from your external and try it.

  • How can i recover items that were emptied from the trash can?

I accidentally deleted my iphone back up and emptied the trash. i REALLY need to recover that back up... HELP!

    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location.  OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone.  Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
