Putting files on iPod after enabling for disk use.  How to?

I enabled my Nano for disk use, but don't know how to put files on it. An answer on how to ut files onto the iPod after it is enable to be a hard drive would be great.
Thanks,
Martin

Hi Martin,
I am not sure about how to put files with a PC, but with a Mac, I believe I can help. To put files on your iPod, your iPod should appear in Finder as a external disk drive. All you need to do is to drag the file into the iPod icon, as you would with an external hard drive. Syncing your Contacts (Address Book) or Calendar (iCal) is a little different. To sync Contacts and Calendar with your computer, Knowledge Base Document #301374 for Mac OS X and Knowledge Base Document #302270 for Windows. I had a hard time with syncing contacts and calendar with windows, because there are two different links.

  • How do I enable an iPod Touch 5 for disk use?

Bit of background as to why I wish to do this: I've made a voice memo and I want to get the WAV file from my iPod Touch 5 to my drive. As this apparently necessitates the use of iTunes (Ver. 12.0.1.26) I knew I was in for an interesting time and so it has proved....
The following steps to try and bring this about are all referenced from here -> Using your iPod as a storage drive - Apple Support.
The fun begins at step 5 when it transpires that to get the voice memo file off an iPod Touch 5 I have to get my Mac Mini to recognise the iPod as a drive.
As opposed to selecting "Enable disk use", which apparently is not an option for my iPod Touch 5, I selected "Manually manage music and videos."   Then, according to step 6, "The iPod disk icon appears on the desktop and in Finder windows....". Lo and behold I selected "Manually manage music and videos." .....
....and yet my iPod is still not visible as a device.
Any advice re how I get my Mac Mini to recognise the iPod as a drive or how to get the files off my iPod by alternate means would be appreciated.  Just one caveat - I would prefer a solution that doesn't require syncing iTunes up to my Mac Mini at any point.
    Cheers.

Try using an app like the free iFunBox. iOS devices like the iPod touch do not support Disk Mode

  • ITunes no longer recognizes iPod after "Enable Disk Use"

I enabled the disk use on my iPod and now iTunes won't recognize it, meaning it doesn't appear in the source window and I can't disable the disk use and sync. The iPod only appears in the device manager as a USB storage device, but not in My Computer; the iPod flashes Do Not Disconnect. I've tried the 5 rs. Any advice/wisdom, anyone? Thanks.

In Device Manager, change the drive letter of the device, use M.

  • IPod 4G always mounts for disk use when Mac wakes from sleep

My 4G iPod is always mounting for disk use when my Mac (10.4.8, Dual 1.8 GHz G5) wakes from sleep, even though the settings for the iPod has "enable disk use" unselected. When I launch iTunes (latest version) the iPod promptly is unmounted. I have restored factory settings, I have reinstalled the computer's OS and iTunes with it.
What is going on and how can I make it normal?

    UPDATE:
I have started to turn off Bluetooth at night before I put my computer to sleep. I HAVE NOT HAD THE FIREWIRE RANDOM DISMOUNT PROBLEM SINCE. I do not know if this is a freak coincidence -- but so far, so much the better for my firewire drive.
Hope this helps someone else down the line... eh hem...

You will need to restore the device from the computer to which the device is synced. For information and instructions, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If that will not work, you'll need to put the device into Recovery Mode and then try the Restore again:

  • Where is "Reserve space for disk use" in iTunes? Docs are out of date

    Hello,
Where did "Resereve space for disk use" go in iTunes? I can't find it any more.
This is major problem because if I want to auto-fill my phone (I don't have time to constantly set up playlists) I then get constantly get errors that my phone is full and that I can't take photos. This is really frustrating.
If I got to iTunes Help, the documentation is wrong and out of date. I have iTunes 11.1.5 and if I go to Help -> iTunes Help and look at this section, it's completely wrong. See attached screenshot.
The whole iTunes UX has become a confusing mess, I hope you're looking for a new product manager for it.
    Thank you,
    Geoff

I am having the same issue. It even tells you that you can reserve space on your phone in the iTunes help, but I can not figure out how to open the Autofill Settings window in iTunes. Here is what it says in help of iTunes 12.0.1.26:
    Autofill settings
You can use Autofill to add songs to your iPod, iPhone, or iPad with a single click. You can set Autofill to select songs at random, or you can customize your settings.
You can select these options in the Autofill Settings window:
Other options are available at the bottom of the iTunes window when you're viewing music on your device:

  • HT3965 I got what appears to be a reconditioned (pre-owned) iPod Touch 4 for Christmas.  How can I change the Apple ID on tis device so I can use it with my iTunes Acct and Wi-Fi network?  Thanks.

I received what appears to be a reconditioned iPod Touch 4th for Christmas.  How do I change the Apple ID on the device to my ID so I can use my iTunes account?  Thanks for any help/

It would probably be best to attach the iPod to a computer and restore it. This way you'll know it's wiped clean. Then, when you start up the iPod it will ask you for your Apple ID.

  • How do I restore a file to iTunes after I deleted it using Keep File?

I wanted to shorten the list of visible files in my laptop's iTunes Music folder without losing the actual music.  So I selected Keep File.  Now I want to bring some of that music back.
How do I restore a file to iTunes after I deleted it using Keep File?

Assuming the track file is still there, either use the Add To Library command under the File menu in iTunes and select the tracks you wish to add back into the iTunes library, or find the track files on your hard drive and drag them into the iTunes window.
    Regards.

  • If your ipod is set for manual update, how do you add playlists?

If your ipod is set for manual update, how do you create and add playlists to the ipod?

Thanks! I have several ipod books and they told me about manually updating songs but not playlists. That tutorial is VERY helpful. I assume that if you manually update the playlist, all the songs contained in it would have had to been previously manually updated to the ipod....to say it another way, updating the playlist does not transfer any songs. Am I correct?

Have you tried using a different brand of optical disk? (You don't say whether you are doing CDs or DVDs.) Some are better than others.

  • Itunes-enabling your ipod for disk use

When I put my ipod on my computer and itunes loads, it recognizes my ipod, when I click on that drive in the source window, I see my options, and it says that it has enabled disk use...but when I go to my computer, I see no music files, and I am trying to get my music files onto an external hard drive. I have tried other software programs to help w/this, but the programs can not find any music files on the ipod drive.
I can not manually uncheck the option in itunes as it does not work as a functional option, I can check & uncheck other options in itunes for my ipod just not("enable disk use").
Has apple put a restriction on this? I went to their site where they gave a video tutorial on how to enable that feature in itunes, but it does not work on my version, and my version is up to date as I check.
Anyway let me know if you experienced same...as I have tried several online applications that should have worked to get my music onto an external harddrive besides my ipod.
    Thanks....valleydoll

I have my songs on my ipod & my nano, they are formatted for a windows pc, but I purchased a macbook and I don't want to have to go thru 2500+ songs (on all my cds) re-importing. So I am trying to get my songs back onto my pc, so I can put them on an external hard drive, and then import them into my macbook.
I downloaded a program, but just now discovered that I needed to show my hidden files, so I now have found the music files, but now this program doesn't import m4a files, which itunes uses. so now I need to find another software that will import m4a files.
    know of any.

  • How do I recover tunes from my iPod after a hard disk crash?

I've just received my PowerMac back after a hard disk crash and am having to reinstall all software etc.
My iPod obviously contains all the music I'd downloaded from the iTunes music store and all the CD's I'd loaded manually into iTunes.
I can't see any way of copying the tunes on my iPod back into my iTunes library...
    Can anyone help?
I had to use a data recovery tool to recover data from my disk after the crash and it's going to be a really long job to sort out what's what...
    JJ

You can't sync or drag your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you prefer.
    Senuti Mac Only
    iPodRip Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
    iPod.iTunes Mac Only

    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions

  • Cannot update ipod for disk use

When I plugged my new iPod into a second computer, it asked if I want to sync it to this computer. I said no, and clicked "don't ask me again". Now I want to use as a hard drive, but when I plug it in, the iPod mounts, "updates", then unmounts. iTunes still shows it, but I can't change the settings and update it because the iPod now has its normal screen as though it isn't plugged in.
Very frustrating. I've tried about 30 things and short of completely restoring it and being more careful about how I answer questions (and recopying 40gigs from my other computer) I can't think of a way to use it like I have every other iPod I've used.

plug it back into the first computer, use those preferences to enable disk use and then try to use it as drive on second computer.
