Putting Images in Numerical Order

I am trying to create a slideshow from my Aperture library and the images in iDVD to not appear in numerical order--they seem to be random. I put the images in numerical order in Aperture, but nothing helps. Its like iDVD randomly sorts these.
I have almost 200 images and need them in numerical order (so my vacation doesn't seem random!) and putting them in order is worse than a 1000 piece puzzle!

I've been using that naming convention since learning it from an old boss years ago. It's always worked for me. Glad it solved your problem.

  • How do I arrange images by numerical order

    Hi Forum,
How do I arrange images by numerical order or alphabetical order?
Somehow my images in a Project got scrambled and they appear to be in some random order. I'd like to re-arrange them back to the original order which was in numerical sequence.
    I'm using Aperture 3.1.2.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Sort options for the Browswer are available via the drop-down at the upper left of the Browser pane.  Additionally, you can sort on any metadata you can add to List View.  There are seven Metadata Overlays, including one for List View.  Recommend customizing List View Metadata Overlay to show every field available.  In List View, click a column heading to sort (and again to reverse the order).  Once sorted this way, the column header will show as a selection in the Browser sort drop-down.

  • Bridge not showing images in numerical order

I'm in Bridge CS3 .  Out of a folder full of 108 images all are in numerical order except for 6 that are out of sequence.  I double and triple checked that my filenames were all uniform except for the numbers.  What's going on here, can someone shed some light?  I'm attaching a screen capture showing items 002 - 007 out of sequence.

According to your screenshot the filter panel shows sort by Date created. If
you change this (click on the name or the little triangles to show the
submenu with this option) to sort by filename (you can choose between
ascending and descending with the other arrow) it will show the correct
order. There are also more sort orders to choose from

  • Creating slideshow - importing images in numerical order

I am creating my first slideshow in iDVD '06. I want the images to appear in numerical order as they do in their original folder. When I drag multiple images over from a folder, they appear in random order. Is it possible to maintain the numerical order?

Mandy - if you want a quick slideshow, why not do it in iPhoto where you can quickly arrange the photos how you want? You can then Share/Export to Quicktime and bring it in to iDVD (my preference) or use the iDVD option within iPhoto to transfer the slideshow.

  • When I open a file in bridge my files are no longer in numeric order and appear to be scrambled in exposure values

When I open my files in bridge with CC, the images are no longer in numeric order but scrambled in what appears to be exposure values. When I use the CS5 software the files are fine so that should rule out a hard drive problem. It is a consistent problem with all hard drives on CC and is accurate on those same hard drives with CS5. Any ideas on how to correct this problem?

Thanks for letting me know, Helene   Nice that I was able to get someone here on their way.

  • How to import images in alphabetical order???

How may I import images in alphabetical order? I have a stack of images that I have renamed so that they are in alphabetical order. However, when I import these ~100 images into iPhoto, it sorts them in some other order (perhaps, although I am not sure, by time taken). If iPhoto does not allow one to import alphabetically (although I sure hope it does, since this would be very convenient), any ideas how I may modify the image taken time so that I can get this set imported in the order that I need?
    Thank you very much!

What print service are you using? Is it an online print service? Or an iPhoto plug-in? To upload to a website you should export the photos (a Desktop folder is convenient) and choose the exports for the upload.
If you are using the Finder to see a list of files, the Finder always lists them in alpha-numeric order. To get a list of photos to export to your Desktop (for uploading) and preserve your order, try this: create an Album, sort them the way you want, then Export to a Desktop folder. In the Export dialog, choose "use Album name" as the filename option. This will preserve your order upon export and name the files "Album name - 01.jpg, Album name - 02.jpg, ..., Album name - 99.jpg." It only works with 99 or fewer photos in the album, so for more photos create another album.

  • Preserving numerical order of imported photos

I am working on a project consisting of still photographs imported into FCP. the photos are in .psd format, and are named/numbered sequentially, such as this:
    DSCN0001, DSCN0002...etc.
sometimes the numbers might not begin at 0001, but they are always in ascending numerical order.
I have discovered that sometimes their order, after placed into the time line is out of numerical sequence, which is a problem bcs thousands of photos will be involved in this beast. tweezing thousands of images into correct order would be...not good..
Is there a non-manual way for me to correct the photos' order after they've been place and/or ensure they they remain in correct numerical order even before I do the importing?
    thank you!
    r

If you sort them by name in the Browser, they should go in the order that they appear there. but numbers are tricky sometimes. If they absolutely ascend I think it should work OK.
You can also view by icons, and place them in order. left to right, then next row down - left to right etc.

  • Opening/Printing pdfs in numerical order

How do you open/print pdf files in numerical order. We have a bunch of pdfs that are named in numerical order (like 001filename.pdf, 002filename.pdf etc.), which we need to print to a color printer in the same order. Whenever we try to open a bunch of these files at once, it opens them in a seemingly random order. It also does this when we try "print all" using Acrobat's batch processing. We are using Acrobat 8 Professional and OS 10.4.11. Any ideas?

One way you could get around this is to open your Printer via "Print & Fax" System Preferences and "Stop" the printer. Then print all your PDFs to the printer but choose "add to queue" when the system warns that the printer is stopped. Once they are all in there, use the "Hold" and "Resume" buttons to put them in the correct order and then "Start" the printer.

  • Numerical order of photos in Elements 6

I want to transfer photos from My Pictures folder to named folders in Photoshop Elements 6 Organizer.
When I Get Photos, the Getting Photos dialog shows the photos in numerical order as they are transferred.
But when they are displayed in Organizer and moved to their named folder, they are no longer in numerical order and seem to be in order of when taken/modified etc.
I am not interested in this or Timelines. I just want the photos in their original order.
Is there any way of doing this?
    Tim

    >n answer to your concern, Barb, about the sequence after editing a photo from a digital camera, once the photo is edited/modified, it loses its original taken date.
I am still concerned about the loss of the original taken date. That does not happen for my digital camera photo files that are in the Organizer.
    >now I just get a message saying that the files are not visible in Organizer. Why?
Maybe previously you were previously working with a folder for which you had imported the photo files to the Organizer and this time you chose a folder where the photo files had NOT been imported to the Organizer.
The folder structure shown on the left hand side of a Folder Location screen looks very similar to Windows Explorer - but it does not function the same. You can NOT use all of the folder structure that you see. When you look at the folder tree on the left side, any folder which contains at least one photo file that has been imported to the PSE Organizer has an icon superimposed on the folder image. (I am not sure how to describe this icon, so I suggest that you look at a folder where you did import photos to identify the appearance of the icon.)
The Organizer only displays photos that have been imported to it.
    >The other thing I once saw but cannot repeat, is when I Show All in Thumbnails view, the photos were separated into folders as in the Albums. Now they are all muddled together. What did I inadvertently press?
First, a concept. Folders are a structure of the Windows Operating System. Albums in Photoshop Elements are not the same as folder: an Album is like a list of photo files where each photo is assigned a specific position in the sequence of photos.
The photo files that are in any specific album may or may be contained within the same Windows folders. If some photos in a Windows folder are in a specific PSE Album, other photos files in that folder may not be in that specific Album. Also, photo file abc.jpg which resides in Folder1 may be included in multiple PSE albums: yet there is still only one copy of that photo file abc.jpg.
There is also (in recent PSE versions) a concept of a Smart Album: in this case the customer identifies some characteristics of their photos and the program automatically creates an album of the photo files that have these characteristics. Note: smart albums will not be mentioned at the photofanatic web site because they were introduced after that web site was written.
So I can not immediately identify when the photos would be separated in to folders except when you are in the Folder Location layout of the screen.

  • Numerical Order for Photos

    Hello,
I am trying to do one very simple thing.
Have the photos in the timeline appear in numberical order. After all, that is the order they were taken in, I want them in that order.
I can not find a way to do that other than by drag and drop which isn't an option. I have between 100-300 photos every time I start a new project and many projects to do per week.
Please tell me how to do this.
The general overview is : I have photos in Aperture and want to burn them in numerical order on to a dvd that can be played in a household dvd player.
I used to play with them in Photoshop, then import them to iPhoto, then share them with iDVD - that all worked well for me - but with trying to introduce Aperture and eliminate Photoshop everything has gone belly up.
I COULD play with them in Aperture and then import them into iPhoto - but when I do that - for some reason iPhoto renames the photos from say 1234 10x8 to 1234 (1) - which is hard for me to explain to my client. . .
I would be more than grateful for any guiding hands about now - am losing whole days on this.
    Powerbook G4 17 inch Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have no experience with Aperture. But if the Aperture names are okay, the Import command in both iMovie and iDVD should deliver images the way you want.
Dragging photos from a Finder window randomizes the order, but the File > Import command works as you want.
To import more than one photo, hold down the Shift key or Command key to select the photos, then hit Open.

  • PS CS2 Camera Raw files don't display in numerical order - is there a fix?

If I select a number of .NEF files in the finder and double click on them or drag them onto the PS CS2 icon, when the preview images are displayed vertically along the left side of the Camera Raw window, they're not in numerical order. That is, if the files were 001.NEF, 002.NEF, 003.NEF, etc... though 50, the order might be: 10, 5, 24, 43, 12...
It makes it difficult to choose between multiple versions of the same subject when they're not right next to each other. It's not the end of the world, but it is a little obnoxious. I haven't been able to find any preference or option to change this... is there anything I'm missing? Does anyone else get this?
    I'm on a Mac G5 running 10.4.11 and CS2.
    Thanks for any help,
    Connal

    Jim + Jeff,
Thanks for the clarification. I know that in Bridge you can choose to sort files by pretty much whatever you want. It just seemed odd that if you just open files directly in PS (as far as I can tell) there's no way to adjust the order in which they display.
Oh well, if Bridge is the answer, then Bridge is the answer.
    Thanks.

  • TS1387 When importing a music cd the songs are not in numerical order from list.  Also some songs are duplicated.

Why are songs that are being imported from a music cd in random numerical order?  Why are songs from a previous import suddenly being duplicated on the album list?

OK, I am really glad I do not have to look you guys in the eye cause I have the answer...kinda. I looked at iTunes again and clicked the first column and it turned to a small arrow (where before it was nothing)and then the order was correct. When it first appeared it was in no order I could tell, not even backwards.
I put in the data CD, same thing ...no arrow at top of first column and after I clicked the top of first column, songs went into playlist order and arrow appeared.
Now I noticed everytime I eject the CD and insert it again, it goes out of order again. What am I missing?

  • CS6 Pantone libraries are not in numerical order

In fact, they are random. For example, when creating a duotone, I click in the color area and I'm given a list of the Pantone colors in that library. If I click on the up arrow it gives me seven colors at a time. A reasonable person woud assume that the seven colors shown would be replaced with the next seven colors in numerical order. For example, if colors 250 through 256 are shown, a click on the up arrow should produce colors 257 through 263. It does not. Here is what I got on each subsequent click when starting at 2562: 7436, 517, 250, 7646, 243. These six numbers have no relationship to each other. Selecting a color in these libraries is simply random. You must keep clicking until ithe color you want just happens to show up. The numbers don't even go generally up or generally down. They are random. What is Adobe's problem? How to alphbetize or put numbers in order is a skill taught in elementary school. Is there anyway to make the colors come up in order? If so, why is random the default?
    Thanks,

I am not an Adobe employee and as fas as I can tell Mr.Cox, who does work for Adobe but is not getting paid to help people on this Forum, would not point out some poster’s misconduct here.
What gave you the idea you were communicating with Adobe proper on this user-to-user Forum?
»The blame cannot be put on Pantone.«
    Wrong.
»I question the wisdom of such a systm and THAT is bad manners? Please.«
But you did not just ask »Why is it that …« you asked what »Adobe’s problem« is, didn’t you?
And did you not then make remarks about the elementary school curriculum?
Now that does not seem to have a direct connection to the matter at hand at all, so I assumed you meant that derogatively.
Was my conclusion wrong and are you just in the habit of enriching your queries with unconnected observations for example about the system of education?
    »Really, is that an "ill-mannered" request?«
Which sentence/s in the original post qualify as a request in your opinion?

  • Smart playlists not in numerical order

Hey, I am having problems getting some of my Smart Playlists in numerical order. Here is an image to help describe my problem; so I want to be able to numerically list the highlighted section in order starting from 1a. I have spent ages trying to figure it out but have had no luck! Anyone know how to do this?
    Many thanks.

Pad out 1 to 9 with leading zeros...
    01
    02
    09
    10
    11
    etc.
if there are more than 99 you'd pad everything to 3 digits.

  • TOC not in numerical order (RH7)

My client wants the section numbers from his user manual left in (not stripped out) so that they show up in the help topics. In my Project Manager tab, the topics for the imported chapter files are in the correct numerical order, but in the auto-generated TOC they are hopelessly mixed up. Also, several of the numbers seem to be overwritten with "IX". What a useless mess!

    Hi there
When you import topics you get to choose whic heading levels are paginated into topics. Likely you are seeing that bookmarks have been inserted and the resulting TOC is being created based on bookmarks as well as topics.
As for screen captures, when you are replying using the web interface you see a camera icon that you may click to insert an image.
    Cheers... Rick
