Putting iPhoto 08 photos in iPhoto 06

A friend gave me a large number of pictures on a DVD. I am trying to put some of them into iPhoto 6.0.6. Can I do this without upgrading to iPhoto 08? I am getting an error message when I try to bring iPhoto up:
"You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto"..."You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
I actually want to use the pictures on my RapidWeaver web site. Maybe I can put the pictures I want in a folder on my desktop, crop and or edit them using ImageWell and them stick them in my RapidWeaver Pages but I would rather have them in iPhoto.

It sounds like your friend made the DVD using the iPhoto Share ==> burn command which makes a mini library - iPhoto 6 will not open an iPhoto '08 library
YOu can mount the DVD on the desktop and extract the originals and the modifides (and the thumbnails form the data folder if you want) and either use them or import them into iPhoto 6

Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated the system to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. Why and what am I supposed to do?

Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated it from Lion to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. They also didn't put Pages, Keynote or Numbers back on it until I argued with them. Of course, I didn't have my data backed up. My hard drive was destroyed when I tried to install the update of Mavericks myself. I should not have to buy iWeb and iPhoto when I already had them. Suggestions?

have you tried looking in the App Store, to see if you can redownload iWeb and iPhoto there gratis?
If you haven’t done so already, you should purchase an external hard drive to act as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you’ll have an option to rollback to a working environment if a new OS installation is troublesome.

I put all my photos into album .Then proceeded to erace photos from last 18 months.. Went back to albums, and no pictures in most of the albums.. What happened? Don't know what to do. How can I get pictures back in my albums?

Deleted them from where? The photos in your albums are not the actual photos in your library. So if you deleted the photos from the Photos section of iPhoto, then you have deleted them period. All of the photos in your Albums are just "pointing" to the original photos. Albums are just a way of organizing your photos, but they are not copies of them.
Did you delete them from the Photos in iPhoto?

However, when I click on the square to insert the photo, a screen pops up telling me to "select a PDF file and import it as an image" and just an "OK" button to press.
When running the debugger, I get NotAllowedError: Security settings prevent access to this property or method. Field.buttonImportIcon:6:Field Click here to add a photo:Mouse Up. Any way around it? Below is the problem I'm talking about.

I've converted photos into pdf format and it still won't allow me to insert the photo. I wouldn't know whether it'd be too large or small since I cannot insert it in the first place.

Here's one way.
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.

If you go to Import>Images and then navigate to a folder of jpegs (I don't think any other format will work) and import the first one (and they're named in succession; image001, image002 etc.) Flash will ask you if you'd like to imort an image sequence and then place all your photos one after another on the timeline one frame at a time.

You should try that by taking a photo and deleting it from the camera roll after you imported it into the new app. If it stays in the photo vault, you can delete the camera roll. But copy them to your computer before, just in case.

Where does iPhoto put my imported photos?

I know this a newbie question and in the past I would find the files under "iPHoto library", but lately when I try to upload my photos from a photo web server I can't seem to figure out where the **** they are! Any tips?

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.

To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:

If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Remember:
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

Can I put iphoto book in a gallery online?

Can I put my iphoto book in a gallery online for friends and family to see? It's large: 100 pages, zillions of photos, and a running narrative. I bought a hard copy for us, but it is too expensive to buy it for people from Virginia to California to the Netherlands. I hate to have to start all over again and create a narrative for all those photos. Any suggestions?

In a way you can. This iWeb page has an iPhoto book that was converted to a JPEG file for each page and then used in a iWeb photo/slideshow page - iPhoto Book as an iWeb Slideshow.
The same principle applies but instead of exporting out of iPhoto to iWeb you would create a MobileGallery out of the jpeg images.

Can I put iPhoto slideshow on Web Gallery?

Our school is using iPhoto 08 and a .mac account to post pictures on the Web Gallery. While we are very satisfied with the formats allowed by Web Gallery, we'd like to put up something more in the style of the SlideShow feature in iPhoto, i.e., Ken Burns affect, music, etc., but I don't see a way to do this. Rather than give up, I thought perhaps someone might know of way to put the Slideshow on the Internet.

Yes, you can add a QT movie file to an iPHoto Web Gallery. However, I would suggest you reduce the size of the file before importing into iPhoto and the gallery as they can become very large and very slow to load. QT Pro can do the job as well as VisualHub and some others. You might want to post over at the Quicktime forum on the best way to reduce the size and keep good quality. QuickTimeKirk is the reigning guru over there (IMO). Lots of smart QT users there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. I accidentally put "iphoto" in the trash. yes, really.

for some unknown reason, iphoto wasn't on my toolbar so i had to go to applications and put it in place once more. the first time, i somehow missed and a shortcut appeared on the desktop. i attempted to drag the icon down to the toolbar, but it only doubled and there were two of them... one on the screen and one on the toolbar. the one on the toolbar worked, so i threw away the shortcut. THEN, the one on the toolbar did not work. it said that i had to get it out of the trash or something. so i found the "iphoto photocast plug-in", dragged it onto the desktop. still didn't work. double-clicked on the plug-in and it gave me little choice of what to run with it. i thought that i could just try all of them, so i first chose quicktime. that was a fail. help
