Putting it into standby before switching off

I'm using ATV without a monitor and controlled through Remote app.
At present I do not have a way to put it into standby before switching it off.
It does not seem to spin down unless put into standby.
Does anyone know if I could program a 3rd party remote to switch the ATV into standby?
Failing that should I just wait for the nice people at "Remote" or iTunes to program a button for that.

I'm just lazy and don't close down applications as often as I should.
More honestly (although I don't close applications often enough when I've finished with them) it's more because I do a lot of video editing.

  • Continue playing from before, switch off automatically

I'd like to use my iPod nano as my source of music in the car. I've seen quite a lot of car kits. The disadvantage I see with all of them is when you start the car you have to re-select your playlist and start the iPod playing and (ii) when you turn off the ignition you have to remember to turn the iPod off or it will keep playing and may have a flat battery when you come back.
Is there any way for the iPod to detect when power is available on the USB port and restart playing from where it was at the time it was previously switched off?
Is there a way for the iPod to switch itself off when the USB port is powered down?
    Thanks for any tips.

  • Should Apple TV be put into standby mode when not in use?

    Anyone,
When I am done watching Apple TV, should I put it into standby mode or leave it on? Just want to take of my new favorite toy!!!!

I tend to leave them on all the time - standby mode isn't particularly low power as lots of things are still active.

  • PowerMac G4 switches off when set to sleep

My venerable PowerMac G4 works just fine. However since a few weeks it switches itself off when put to sleep. The switch-off is a crash, like the power plug has been unplugged. An immediate restart doesn't work, the light just goes on for a second or two, afterwards the whole power vanishes again. After a few minutes the Mac can be normally restarted.
When left of the Mac works perfectly and doesn't crash at all.
Sounds to me like a certain power which is to be supplied by the internal power suplly just during sleep-mode is gone. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    hi,
thanks for your suggestions. I trashed the com.apple.powermanagement.plist file but there was no autowake file. The behaviour remained the same. I then reset the PMU as you suggested - still no change.
In the meantime I got another problem: the mouse is behaving erratically, the pointer is moving in jumps or not at all. The mouse shows the same behaviour when plugged in to my PowerBook - it must be faulty. I have just ordered a new Mighty Mouse to rule out any issue deriving from a broken mouse. I will also change the Lithium Battery on the motherboard even given the voltage is at 3,64 V, which should be sufficient.
Do you have any further suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!
    hi wolfman62--
i would try a couple of things. first, go to
/library/preferences and trash a couple of files in
    the folder called systemconfiguration --
    com.apple.powermanagement.plist and
    com.apple.autowake.plist. then restart the
computer. test to see if there is any change. if
not, try resetting the pmu. to do this, shut off
all power to the computer and disconnect any
peripherals. then remove the power cord from where
it goes into the back of the machine into the power
supply. then remove the side panel and plastic air
deflector if your model has one. then look on the
bottom left corner of the logic board under the
bottom set of ram banks. there is a little square
with a button on it. (you might have to remove a
fan in order to find it.) ground yourself by
touching some metal and then letting go, and then
press the button on the logic board counting one one
thousand, and then release it. do not press it
twice as it can blow the chip. then put everything
back together and see if there is any difference.
let me know if either of those things makes any
    difference. [ 8 ) ]

  • Nokia CK-7W Car Kit won't switch off after switch...

    Hi,
I have a CK-7W car kit (connected via bluetooth).
Recently, the car kit has been reconnecting 2 to 3 seconds after switching the engine of the car off. I cannot seem to stop this from happening, even when clearing memory or even disconnecting the car battery for 20 mins.
Any advice on how to reset the car kit would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Thanks for the response.
The car kit was installed by a Car Phone Warehouse Nokia approved fitter about 4 years ago The kit has worked really well until recently!
The contol button doesn't seem to be stuck in and responds as it should to button presses. In terms of the cable being squashed or damaged. Obviously there is a chance, but in actual fact, only an inch is on show before it is hidden behind the dashboard. In this instance I'm not sure what damage might occur since I don't know how to remove the dash!
Apologies, I'm not certain I understand your comment re:
      -  "You can rule out the button by disconnecting it then starting the car and connecting, before switching off the car to see if the kit shuts down."
How do I disconnect the button? Does it pull away from the lead / cable?
Many, many thanks for your help,
    Chris

  • Shuffle goes back to begining when switched off

Is this the norm? My shuffle doesn't remember where it was on the play list when it is switched off and on again, unless it is on shuffle. It returns to the begining of the play list each time. Also on shuffle it doesn't play the whole play list and seem to be in a 'loop'.

I have the same problem. everytime when I switch my ipod off an on again it starts at the beginning and not at the song i've heard befor. I have also restartet and restored my ipod yet, but also this don't work. I also do not press pause befor switching off my ipod, but all this does not help. do you have any other solutions?

  • After Syncing Content and Putting ATV on standby - No Content is there

I Synced all of my TV shows to ATV last night and put ATV on standby before going to bed. When waking up this morning and turning ATV on I noticed there were zero TV shows and ATV said that I needed to open my ITunes -- Once you sync content, isn't it saved on the ATV harddrive?
    Please help. Thanks.

If you are syncing then yes the data should be on the hard-drive. If just streaming then need ATV open.
Also ensure what settings you have for TV syncing. If for example you have it set to 5 most recent unwatched shows but you had watched them in the past, then they won't sync and require iTunes open to list to stream.

    iphone 5 randomly switches off at 25% - 45%
Switches on immediately after plugging it to a charger, displaying the same battery life before switching off (25%-45%)
    What can I do? Thanks

Try a reset: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • Hard drive wakes up immediately after being put into standby

I have an IDE disk which, till now, I used to keep in standby mode (it makes an audible humming noise when it's working which annoys me a lot :<). Today I noticed that after running `hdparm -y' on it, it would spin down but then it would immediately spin up again. I'm certain that the disk isn't being used and doesn't have any partitions mounted anywhere on the filesystem. Still, I'm unable to pinpoint the reason it's waking up.
Any ideas on why this is happening?
Edit: It appears that the disk gets into standby by itself after 10 minutes. I wish I knew where this value is coming from. O.o
Edit2: Those 10 minutes must be coming from `hdparm -S1 /dev/sdb'; maybe the hard drive has a lower limit in regard to this setting. :3

Here is what i get when i try that command.:
    $ sudo hdparm -B 254 /dev/sdc
    /dev/sdc:
setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xfe (254)
    HDIO_DRIVE_CMD failed: Input/output error
    APM_level = not supported
I tried other values also and its always the same error.
I just did another try with -y and the drive stayed in standby during ±40 minutes this time. The most annoying part is that is something that was not happening before I am pretty sure that it would stay in standby for days.
I also included my results for hdparm -I.:
