Putting iTunes store music onto mp3 players

I am having difficulty putting music I have purchased from the iTunes store on to my mp3 player as it is in m4p format - i have tried converting it using the option in 'Advanced' but it comes up with a warning saying it can't be converted as it is protected.
Is there anyway round it?

What you can do with your store purchases is burn them to an audio CD. That audio CD can be used in the same manner that any CD you would purchase at your local store.

  • How do I put non-iTunes store music onto my iPhone without screwing it up?

I backup to iCloud and haven't synced my iPhone since I've gotten a new computer. I have some music that is in my iTunes that i did not get from the iTunes store that I would like to put on my iPhone. When i try to make any changes at all, it says The iPhone is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library? I think this is because of my computer switch, but that's all fine and good. I just don't wanna erase something irritrievable or screw up my iPhone in any way, I'm so confused and lost (and afraid to try anything rash, from past iPhone screw ups). Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you still have your old computer, copy the entire iTunes folder from your old computer to your new one using one of the methods outlined here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527.  (Be sure to copy the entire folder, not just the media folder.)
If you don't, follow this guide: Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive.  (If you're using iTunes 11, first go to View>Show Sidebar in order to follow this guide.  Also, Transfer Purchases in step 5 is now in File>Devices.)

I want to put all my music onto an external hard drive.  But I can't get it to put music on my itunes.  The music list is completely empty and so is my IPOD.  How do I do this?  I have a PC with Windows.

You say the music is not on the external HD, the music list (iTunes?) is empty, and it is not on the iPOd. Then where is the music you want to move to the external HD?
You can redownlaod iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • I setup a separate itunes account for my iphone. I put my ipod music onto it. The music will not sync to my iphone. It tells that all info will be lost if I do it. HELP! The music is showing in the library.

you can connect the iPhone to your mac and import those iPhone photos and videos to iPhoto assuming you have iPhoto. You can create a folder and export all those photos to the Finder. Keep safe somewhere.  Also keep the iPhoto library for safe keeping. When you restore your iPhone you can sync all those photos back to the iPhone. so you will lose nothing. Just remember when you export from iPhoto select jpeg for photos and original for videos taken with the iPhone.

  • Itunes and multiple users/mp3 players

I got my wife an ipod for christmas and subscribed to itunes. I have since noticed that purchased songs are not availible to sync with the kids mp3 players as well. Will I tunes not allow purchased music to be put on all of our mp3 players? Do I have to get an account for every kid or device?

+I looked at amazon and walmart and several titles are not availible in mp3 format and come as wma with drm+
If you are using a mix of iPod and non-Apple players, you should keep all your music in MP3 format. It is the only format that is compatible across the board.
The iTunes Music Store does not sell MP3s, so it is not where you should be shopping. As Katrina noted, amazon.com would be a better choice for you.
You may have seem protected WMA files at walmart.com, but you did not see them at amazon.com. Amazon sells only MP3s, with no DRM in sight.
If there is some song that you really want and cannot find a non-DRM version, then you may have to resort to DRM. It will not play in at least one of your players, but you can always use the correct program - iTunes or Windows Media - to burn it to an audio CD.

You can only sync with one computer/iTunes library. If you sync with another iTunes library/computer the media from the iPod will be deleted and replaced with the media on the second computer.
If you want to change syncing computers then:

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

  • ITunes Store music tab not showing up

iTunes Store music tab not showing up

    FollowUp - Problem Solved.
Just in case anyone else was experiencing the same issues, I pinpointed it down to a corrupted iTunes preference file - com.apple.iTunes.plist.
I created a new user account, lauched iTunes and it worked fine, no black drop down window appearing, so I went back into my account and deleted this and relaunched iTunes and the drop down window showed all the search results again, not the black window as seen in my example image.
    Hope this helps others!

  • Converting iTunes Purchased Music to MP3

I have been reading the posts about not being able to changed the iTunes purchased music to MP3 format. I understand that the only way to do it is to burn the purchased music to a disc and then once it is burned, import it back into iTunes. I can't get it back into iTunes without the protection. Do you go to iTunes then to import? Help!!

I FINALLY figured it out!!!! Sometimes I am sooo
    slow! Thanks for your help!
Its not your fault. The French are considering making Apple
behave responsibly and allow use of iTunes music on any
    audio player.
The requirement to burn to CD and re-import just so I can
use a non-Apple music player....well, it looked good to legal
and why should Apple care about anything else.
It's not really fair to expect a company with Apple's reputation for
innovated ways of serving generally accepted needs to keep it up
    forever. Or is it?

  • Buy Music for MP3 players

    Dear Sirs
I'm a diehard Mac customer (have 3 macs at home plus 1 ipod and a shuffle) I have successfully converted my husband to macs little my little, unfortunately I had to give up with the MP3 player since he needed the radio, player and recorder features without having to add pieces. So I got him an iriver player but insisted that he bought his music from itunes. I just now realized that itunes does not allow him to convert his music to MP3 therefore he cannot put his music into his brand new iRiver. Why this policy?
So, if I have an MP3 player I should find another music store?
    ibook   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Conversion of purchased iTMS tracks can be done easily be burning those tracks to an AudioCD & reimporting the resulting AudioCD to mp3 files.

  • Can't put iTunes Store items on Video iPod

Hi everyone... hopefully someone can help me out!
I have a brand new Video iPod, a flat panel Mac G4 using Tiger 10.4.4, and iTunes 6.0.2.
Every song and audiobook that I have purchased from the iTunes store will NOT go on my iPod. It keeps telling me that "some of the songs in the iTunes music library were not copied to the iPOD because your iPod software is too old." Ok, I know that's not the case because it's brand new, but I updated everything anyway.
What I finally noticed is that the songs are locked. When I see them in my music folder on my hard drive, they have a little lock icon in the upper left corner of the music icon which, coincidentally, is in a M4P format. All the songs I have purchased, and the 3 audiobooks as well, are all like that- locked and M4P format (or MP4).
Has anyone else experienced this problem and, if so, do you know how I can get this stuff on my iPod? Every question sent to Apple has been met with the same "solution" of either update it, restore it, restart it, etc. I've done all that. It appears to be something to do with the fact that these things are locked. Can I unlock them somehow??

Yes and no... I am TRYING to use the latest update of the software, which is "iPod updater 2006-01-10." It says I am updated, so I tried to put my "purchased" music on my iPod and it still gives me the message that I am unable to add those songs because my iPod software is too old. So I went to restore it instead, and the updater software says I need to connect using the firewire. But when I use the firewire it doesn't recognize the iPod!
I took the songs giving me trouble and put them on a CD. I imported the CD onto my laptop. From there I was able to restore the iPod, finally, and I was able to put those elusive "purchased" songs on the iPod, but when I connected it back to my main computer, I was back to square one. I needed to reconnect the iPod to my main computer because after the restore on the laptop I lost all my original songs, so I had to get the songs from the main computer. By doing that, I lost the "purchased" songs because iTunes wouldn't let me keep them AND add the my old songs back on because they are from different libraries! ARGH!
Apparently I just need to take it in to be fixed because I've serioulsy tried everything. If there was a way to transfer the iTunes library from the main computer to the laptop, everything would probably work. Is that possible?

  • Cannot download iTunes store purchase onto PC

I am unable to download an album purchased from iStore to my PC.  I have iTunes installed and authorized for use.  The album downloads onto my iPhone without issue.  I don't see a download option.  Am I missing something?

You might be able to redownload it via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage. Or go into Edit > Preferences and on the Store tab tick the 'show iTunes in the Cloud purchases' tickbox and it should then show in the My Music part of your iTunes library with a cloud icon against it for redownloading.
If the album is no longer in the store then connect your phone to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy it over.
