Putting Local SIM into unlocked iPhone 4S

Hi Guys
My friend is going over to Turkey for a few weeks and would like to use a local sim card for making calls/data.
His 4S is unlocked and was wondering if its just as simple as swapping sim cards over and it works?
He was told he would have to connect his iPhone to iTunes and re-register it?
Thanks.

Hobbs's link doesn't apply to your question, so you can ignore it.
If the phone is officially unlocked, you can swap sims to your heart's content, no connection to iTunes required. Simply power the phone off, swap sims, then power the phone back on.
Here's a list of supported iPhone carriers. If your friend uses a sim from a supported carrier, there shouldn't be any issues:

You will need a nano sim for the iPhone 5, your 4S sim is too big.

  • My Contracted SIM is for an android phone, but when i put the sim in an iphone my 3g no longer works?..

My Contracted SIM is for an android phone, but when i put the sim in an iphone my 3g no longer works?.. Is it because my 3g is only active on the android os and not the ios platform? Texts, Calls and Wifi work fine but the 3g doesn't work. My phone only shows 'GPRS' in the top left corner. Also I get a message come up saying "Could not activate mobile data network. You are not subscribed to a mobile data service".
    Any advice would be great.

Hi hexonxonx, I'm on o2. Thanks for your advice. You are right. All I had to do was change one of my APN settings to mobile.o2.co.uk and reboot my phone and this sorted it out straight away! Thanks again. Much appreciated . I was thinking I was going to have to go back to an android phone to use my 3g again but this eliminated that need. Thanks.

There is no way that you can locate the iphone at all.
The thief can restore it and use it as their own.  You will never know or be able to tell what they do with it.
Very sorry.  Your iphone is gone.
Report it to the police and change your passwords.

  • I have an ipad mini and would like to put a sim into it is it possible

Please help can I put a sim into my ipad mini

If you have a WiFi-only iPad, there is no cell circuitry included so there will be no place to insert a SIM. If you have a WiFi+Cellular iPad, the instructions for inserting a SIM can be found in the user's guide:
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/ipad/
It's on page 11 in the US version of the guide.

  • Can I put a giff gaff sim into my iphone 4 when doing the unlock?

It says in my email to use a sim from a iphone/ipad supplier.
Could I just put the giff gaff sim in for the unlock process?

I just need to know if I can use the giff gaff sim in this process as they
Do not supply iPhones or iPads.
Normally it's recommended to use a SIM from a supported carrier, but a GiffGaff SIM may work. They have some information here:

Yes, the 6+, 6, 5s and 5c are all using the Nano SIM.

  • Putting a temporary sim into your IPhone

Hi, I am travelling shortly and plan to use a local sim whilst i'm away. The Apple store confirmed my email will automatically come through one I put the sim card in?
I take it, I will need to switch the data roaming to "on"?
Once I have completed my trip and switched back to my UK, should evereything switch back seemlessly?
    Many Thanks

roaming mean that you surf on your normal sim in other places
changing back does nothing in terms of the general settings of the device

  • HT201269 Putting existing sim into a new iPhone

My iPhone was water damaged and no longer turns on, I don't think I have anything backed up on the device, which I now have no access to. Will I lose any information (contacts etc) simply putting my sim in to a new iPhone?

thanks... so all data is stored on the iphone device itself? is there any way I can access contacts etc now that the phone itself is inaccessable?

  • Overseas sim and unlocked iPhone 4s

I have an unlocked iPhone 4s and i plan to go overseas i want to get a sim card over there but will i have to activate through iTunes like i did when i first got the phone? or is it just insert and use?
    thanks in advance

TFA, sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm in a similar situation - my dad wants to buy an unlocked iPhone 4s which he will use primarily with a UK sim, however he's going to Thailand for 4 months over the winter and will want to put a Thai sim in for this period, and then when he gets back to England, put his UK sim back in.
Did you find that the overseas sim worked straight away after plugging it in (or did you need to sync it), and was this the same when you put your home sim back in?
I'd like to avoid a situation where he has to sync with itunes when he's away (or back home at the airport when he reintroduces his UK sim), as he's not that technically minded.
    Thank you.

I have broken my iphone 5 and have an iphone 4.  I have an adaptor to put the sim in but it says its not supported on this phone.  What can I do?

They might have one at the Apple Store but a better chance is to go buy your cell providers store.

  • Put my sim into iPhone have purchased. How do I get all my stuff onto it

Have bought iPhone from someone as mine damaged. Have unlocked theirs and out in my sim but still all their info? How do I transfer mine over

On the phone you purchased: Make sure iMessage & FaceTime are turned off in Settings. Delete the iCloud account, if one was setup. Then: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. Then, follow the directions here:

Try following along with the iPhone Calls Troubleshooting Assistant
Apple has another article here too -> iPhone: Troubleshooting No Service
If the steps in those docs don't fix it, you'll have to contact the cell carrier.

  • Inserting Koodo sim into Telus iPhone 6

    Hello,
I purchased a Telus iPhone 6 recently and thinking that because Koodo uses the same towers and is an offshoot of Telus, I didn`t think I needed to unlock the phone.
In any case, in order to test this out I bought a non-activated Koodo sim card and inserted it into the Telus iPhone. I received this message: ``No SIM card installed. Insert a valid SIM with no PIN lock to activate iPhone.``
Now am I getting this message because the nano sim that I put in as a test isn`t activated or the message appeared because it`s not unlocked. And if so, a Koodo sim should work on a Telus phone regardless.
I have no problem unlocking the phone, I just don`t want to pay to do so if that`s not the problem.
    Thank you for your help.

Despite the fact the Koodoo is indeed a branch of Telus, you will still need to have the phone unlocked by Telus to use it on the Koodoo network.
