Putting Logic on a second computer?

I've been using Logic 7 on a PowerMac Dual 2.3 since last summer with no problem but now I'm trying to get it going on a new Dual 2.3 at home. First, a very rudimentary Logic appears, with only 4 audio tracks. Second, it won't allow me to add any audio instruments, and finally there are no native plug in samples, exs24, etc.
What am I doing wrong?

Well, many things are involved. First, you should have done the install from the DVDs-which is probably why your EXS files don't appear.
If you did, let us know.
Import the autoload from your other mac.
Configure your preferences properly (you can copy them over, and then reset all except key commands) then set audio tracks, etc accordingly. Basically it sounds like the app was dragged over from the other machine.
Try running setup asst. as well

  • Need to load Logic on my second computer

I use an large iMac in my studio, but for my field work I use a MacBook Pro. I am installing LOgic on the iMac, but how do I install it on my MacBook?

If you downloaded Logic from the app store, you should be able to install on the other computer by opening the app store and going to the purchases tab (both computers must be signed in on the same apple account) scroll down to Logic Pro and hit install. If you have install discs, simply install on your MBP after installing on your iMac in the same way.

  • Registration on second computer

Hi, does anyone know the protocol for registering logic on a second computer?, my Logic registration is in my name, but the I Mac that it is on is in my girlfriends name, and I am about to register my new{ second hand} Mac Pro in my name. Does anyone know if this will cause an issue with Logic registration if the same software reg doesn't match up with the hardware registration? That is enough use of the word registration for one day. Thanks for any advice in advance.

You can install Logic on more than one computer (as long as you don't run both simultaneously). The name of the owner of the computer shouldn't be an issue.
The two registrations will not be matched up, so no conflict.
    But don't do anything naughty!

  • Re: installing Logic Pro X on a second computer that doesn't have much internet bandwidth

I have two complete studios, two locations, two Mac minis. The first has full internet bandwidth and I've installed Logic Pro X with all the additional content. The second is in a rural location where I have very limited, very slow and very expensive internet. How can I install Logic Pro X without downloading all the additional content? Can the content files be copied to a drive and then to the second computer?

I'd take the second Mac to a place with a better connection. That's probably your best bet.
You could try to copy the files in:
    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Logic
Not sure what the result would be. Maybe copy the files first, then install? I think either way LPX has to do this. Another way possibly, install it, then when it requires the content download, close it, copy the files over, then re-open?
Let me know. This is all a guess.

What happened to the recently purchased icon on the left side of the playlist?  I used to could purchase songs from one of my computers and then put them on the second authorized computer by selecting recently purchased.  Is there another way?

Well in order to keep all the ratings, playcounts ect ect of songs in iTUnes, place the songs back into there original folders/places on the "Old harddrive" by cutting (Not copying) them from the new Harddrive. Now iTunes should report the songs has being there and have ! marks beside the imported folder from your external Harddrive.
Now you will delet the dead/broken links (Or missing music from the new drive)in iTUnes. Goto Ottos site for a script that will remove dead links and other things here
Just download, unzip, and run the program.
    http://ottodestruct.com/iTunes/QuickScripts.zip
Now with everything in place and the dead links removed you will either consolidate the library or set it to copy to another Folder. If you consolidate it moves ALL your music listed in iTunes to the "iTunes Music" folder and can not be reversed. If you set it to copy, it will just copy music from its current folder to the iTunes music folder. You will have to pick the best option for you but consolidating will work best if your trying to free up space. To consolidate goto "Advanced" and select "Consolidate Library". To copy goto Edit>preferenses>Advanced tab>general sub tab and check "Copy FIles to iTunes music Folder when added to library". THis location is also where you will change the location of iTunes Music folder from your old harddrive to the new one by hitting the "Change" button above the reset button

  • I cannot copy the sync code fromthe second computer back to the first!

When I try to sync my PC with my laptop, I am unable to copy the code from my second computer to my PC. I don't know what I am doing wrong - but both come up with a code and I cannot even get as far as putting in my 'sync' number.
Anyhelp would be appreciated. I have tried following the steps given on adding another device but I get stuck when it comes to this three-part code.

No it didn't solve my problem - I still cannot type a code into the "Add a Device' page. A code comes up in both my PC and my laptop - but they appear to be 'fixed' and I cannot type over them into the boxes.
Please help as I want to take my laptop overseas and would like to have my bookmarks and passwords with me.

  • Using a second computer as a external midi instrument or DAW slave?

So this is my current setup:
    iMac 24(FW 800 & 400) with logic 8 & reason 4,
Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 firewire (x2) sound card/pre-amp,
Blackbook with MainStage & Reason 4.
& this is what I would like to do:
Use my imac as my main DAW master, (currently tracking to an external FW800 drive & pulling loops from a USB drive), & use my blackbook to run reason as a external midi device or slave.
My Saffire Pro 40 has 2xFW400 ports so I can connect both machines to it.
The idea behind this setup is to pull as many software sounds from the Blackbook & mainly use the imac to run Logic.
Does this make sense? & if so, what's the best way to execute this?
    thanks in advance

    Hello -
I'm not entirely sure that one audio device such as the Saffire Pro 40 with 2 Firewire ports can be shared between two computers. It was always my impression that the second Firewire port was available to "daisy chain" another audio device or hard drive. Before you proceed, you might want to check with the company that manufactures the Saffire Pro 40 and make sure that two computers can interphase with it.
With regards to using a second computer as a "slave machine", it seems that many, many people do have such configurations to help spread the CPU and memory work-load. My happy Mac Pro is set up to work with a potential of two other "slave machines". When I use this set up, it works wonderfully. But, for most of the time, my happy Mac Pro can manage most sequencing projects (mostly orchestral with LOTS of instruments) on its own. Each computer, however, has its own audio device. All are connected to the Mac Pro using the ADAT light inputs/outputs from each audio device (I use MOTU's audio devices) and are managed midi-wise using Music Lab's MOLCP 3.
    Good luck. . .

  • Setting up TV@nywherer, streaming from host computer to a second computer on LAN

Followed everthing in the manual and it is not working.
1  set to "no proxy", I think I need to since I did not use "proxy" in Internet Exporer\tools\internet options\connections\LAN settings...
2  I got the "server busy" message box on the "stream in" (second)computer with the message "server has rejected your request".
Can anyone with a successful setup give me more information on set up TV streaming from the host computer to a second computer?
    Thanks

I guess it's how you interpret the manual. The manual lists what is needed. It explicitely mentions both the tuner and MSIPVS for the host server, but only lists MSIPVS for the remote station. It may have been an error that the tuner was not mentioned.
I have been trying to figure out why you would need the tuner for the remote station.
    1. You probably can't install a second copy of MSIPVS in a second computer without a tuner without contravening the copyright law?
    2. The software won't install correctly without the tuner? As part of the install, the program checks for a tuner card, doesn't find one, generates error message, continues install. Since I could never get the two programs to work, I could never tell if the install error was a warning that I needed the card. If it is why bother to continue the install?
    3. The card is used to decode the stream in? I guess that would depend on what the stream in was. If it was an MPEG stream, would the on board decoder be required to decode the stream?
    4. What use could be made of a home based setup if a tuner card was required in each home pc? I mean, if I had to put a tuner card in every PC, why bother streaming and incurring the overhead, all I have to do is make a cable connection to each PC. But it would be a definite benefit if I could put a card in a single PC and stream the TV signal to other PCs running MSIPVS with out requiring a tuner in each PC.
The manual isn't too clear. The example host sites in the manual and installed with MSIPVS don't work. I can't delete them. But they do suggest that maybe MSI was thinking that people would install the cards commercially and stream to customers. On second thought, that doesn't make sense, because there is one host, one host stream to one remote stations (that has controll of the tuner remotely), that would not be efficient in a commercial service offering.
I know I'm missing something here. A good start to understanding this would be if your test showed that you can still receive a stream in at the remote station, without the card.
