Putting movies on the web for download - help and advice needed
Hello everybody,
I'm not sure whether this is the right place for this question, but here's hoping...
I've produced an hour long DVD on the history of my car club. I have produced the DVD using iMovie and iDVD, and it's fine.
We will be having a number of these DVDs produced, but we also want to offer the movie as a download on our website. Of course this needs to be compressed, but what I want to be able to do is offer the user a file that will burn them a DVD with chapter markers etc, just like the DVD I have, in one operation - a straightforward duplicate. I also want to be able to let them download a label and jewel case insert and offer a complete package.
Is an easy duplicate like this possible, and what sort of file size would the compressed item be? As the DVD is close to capacity, I assume the original will be around 4.7 Gb. There are also some jpegs on the DVD as extras.
Certainly, it would be desirable for the user to play it on their computer, but the main aim is to get a disc TV ready (in the PAL format).
I know you can download movies from the web, and I've downloaded trailers onto my iPod and played them back on a 32" TV and they're excellent. What I don't know is what software will do this. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I suppose you could put up a 4 something gigabyte DVD disk image up somewhere on the web, but I wouldn't want to try and download it! Do you have a site available with this kind of storage and download bandwidth?
Normally, the things I've seen on the web are reduced in image size to something like 320x240 - this reduces the file size to 1/4 the full size file.
For Apple users, H.264 gives a pretty compact file with decent quality, but I'm not sure many PC users would be able to use it. In any event, people couldn't make a DVD with chapters without extra work.
You could get QuickTime Pro and try converting the movie (or a part of it anyway) to H.264 (or 'regular' mpg-4) see how it looks.

That screen grab helps a lot. There’s a much easier way of doing what you’re doing.
Remove all your tabs and set the text in justified paragraphs.
I’ve typed in dummy text in the example I made below, but after “19.1” put in a space and put your blinking cursor after the space and before the ’N’ of ‘Notices'.
Then hold down the Command key and hit Backspace (on Mac at least - it’s the key between the Inverted commas/ apostrophe key and the return key).
The text will jump into place the way you want it to.

PS You can set a tab, instead of using a space, in the description I gave above. So, after 19.1 or 19.2 or 19.185 etc etc insert a tab, then hit the Command Backspace after every paragraph number and they'll all line up exactly together. You'll find that editing text within the paragraphs
after you've set it will be LOADS easier this way.
You can put the tab anywhere you want it to be using 'Command-ShiftT' and putting a 'left align' tab just after the number. Just type the Command Backspace after the paragraph number and it'll work -

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue persists, then take the device to Apple for evaluation.
FYI, Apple will not replace the battery without first doing basic troubleshooting or testing the battery. -
Video Download Helper is an add-on that I frequently use. It used to have an icon right next to the home icon beside the URL line. It is no longer there. It disappeared after Firefox prompted me to update.
I believe that the add-on is still available to use by Firefox because it has a drop-down embedded in the "tools" drop-down in Firefox.
I have attempted to reload Video Download Helper, but to no avail.

Also how can i copy the sms saved messages folder to some where else like faourites?
Any advice would be appreciated.You can't move "that" folder.
But do you currently have your SMS messages as a part of the overall main Messages folder?
If you want to move THOSE to a separate SMS folder... Go to your main Messages folder and select Options > Inbox Management > and UNcheck the "Text Messages" options to create a disinct folder for SMS.

Sharing a folder over the internet for file transfer. Advice needed?
I am just starting up freelance working from home again after several months but am a bit concerned as to whether my internet connection speed is sufficient to handle the largish files I may have to deal with.
I have recently moved house and gone from an area with high speed fibre optic broadband to an area where this isn't available and as such my speeds are significantly lower than before.
Downloading isn't shouldn't be such a problem - I have gone from 30mbs downstream to about 5mbs. In tests I have been able to download fairly large files in an acceptable time.
Uploading finished work is more of a concern as the upstream is severally nobbled.
I have been looking for a solution to this and was wondering if there is a way to set a folder on my Mac that my client could access and download from without me first having to upload to a server (Dropbox, WeTransfer or FTP)?
Is this possible and if so would this make a difference in terms of speed or would the recipient still be restricted by my upload speedsNumbers-wise, if the client is going to want to access each item you want to give them at least once, it makes sense to use something like DropBox (or whatever in which the end result is you uploading it to a server).
The demand on your upload connection is at worst equivalent were the client to only ever grab it once, and the moment the client wants to grab it a second time, everyone has won for it being on a faster-connection remote server. -
Job Interview - Help and Advice Needed
Hi all,
This may seem like a strange request for help but I'm completely stuck. I've just completed a Computer Science degree and have applied for a Junior Developer role at an Insurance company. I was lucky enough to get an interview which is this Thursday. Which is great, but not so great!
The interview is a 45 minute programming exam and the only instructions I get up until the exam are;
As an overview - it will require you to write some software using a language of your choice to interrogate a database and manipulate the data.
Now I'm not the greatest programmer (strange considering I'm applying for a Junior Developer role, but a jobs a job right?!) and during my degree I never used any language other than SQL/Oracle to interrogate databases. I've said that I'll be attempting the task with Java (as its the language I know best) However - I'm not sure where to start looking to get myself up to speed.
Could some of you be so kind as to point me in the right direction of where to start looking? What classes should I focus on? Am I right in thinking I would need to use DTOs? Am I asking the right questions?!
I don't hold out much hope for the interview but I'll be going for the experience at least - but if any of you could offer any advice on what I should revise before hand I would be forever greatful.
Many thanks =@)With only 45 minutes, I assume the task will be pretty narrowly defined. My experience is that new developers out of CS majors (myself included) tend to over-design things. Given the short amount of time, I would suggest not trying to impress them with your knowledge of patterns unless they make the task easier to finish in the allotted amount of time. Focus on completely the task(s) successfully. That's going to be a lot more impressive unfinised work. 45 minutes is going to blow by, so don't get too fancy. In addition, if you over do the design, a lot of experienced developers will not look upon it kindly. Keep it simple and correct.

Hi all, had a moving home 12 days ago, my ip profile is 56.56 but I only get a average of 25mb throughput on Ethernet. I also wanted a data extension but the subby made a right mess of my wall and the data ext kills my bb when connected, so I have had to completely remove it and buy a long white Ethernet lead. Any advice please guys? Ps my bras is 58mbps
ThanksThe subcontractor left the bt socket off the wall, holes in my fresh painted skirting board as he didn't want to get his drill so tried to mount on the skirting, also tried to mount the modem on skirting! . He said do I want to mount it all!? I said yes due to the mess he was making of my new house. I'm field staff for a rival company so the mounting was no problem. But what he did do was use telco wire from x2 terminals from the I plate I think it's called to data socket. When ethernet plugged into socket my bb drops? Hence I had to take it away. When he left I was getting approx 40 meg throughput, this has dropped to 25 ish since. My brass rate is still 56.56 dropped from 58mbps. I have made good his damage so won't raise a claim. But if anyone could offer advice, that would be great. I would also like to communicate with a moderator if poss? Thanks

Help and Advice needed to open ports
I have a BT HomeHub. I also use a Vodafone Sure Signal box in order to be able to receive messages on my mobile at home. The box is not connecting to the internet and Vodafone says i need to open the following ports
8, 50, 500, 4500 and 123

Hi - I rented a movie from iTunes and was charged for the rental. It downloaded to my iPhone 5 over wi-fi as usual, but on completion of the download, it then didn't appear in my movies app on the iphone. I can't find it either on iTunes in my account on my computer. But iTunes seems to think that I've already downloaded it, but I can't find it anywhere or watch it. Help! I've downloaded and watch plenty of movies before - this is a first. I've tried re-renting it, but it tells me that I've already rented it and if I download it again, I'll be charged a second time.
Help - anyone out there had the same problem or better still, have a solution????I had the same issue with my apple tv 3rd generation. I rented Sinister and selected the "rent and watch now" option. Half way through the movie I accidentally pressed the menu button. When I looked for the rented movie on my apple tv I could not find it. Not even above the movie pannel where "purchased" and "top movies" comes up on the main menu. the apple tv suggests to go to settings>downloads but I don't have that option. I did go to settings> itunes store> check rentals but that didnt work either. It took too long to even check. Thank you because this SOLUTION worked great.
SOLUTION: How to reset apple tv 3 3rd generation to view rented movies:on the apple tv remote: press and hold "menu" to go to the main menu. Select SETTINGS> GENERAL >RESET >RESET ALL SETTINGS. After the apple tv resets, input all your information again and your rented movies should be visible when you cruise above the "movies" section. THANK YOU!!
Apple needs to solve this issue because honestly it took me 3 hours and a half to watch a movie that only lasted 2 BECAUSE I wast trying to solve the issue, reseting and all. blahh. -
updated my mac to mountain lion 10.7.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install saying that I need to see developer. Whenever I try to open my appstore, mail or facetime it says that the programmes need to be installed and might not be compatible with this version of mac operating system. Can anyone help me?
It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.

Accounts payable invoices (fv50) - duplicate invoices hard warning
Currently we only receive a soft warning when we try to enter a duplicate invoice. Is there a way to reconfigure to make the warning a hard warning that can be overwritten it necessary. We are running ECC 6.0. Thanks, Jon
