Putting Music back to iTunes

Ok, sorry to ask this time old question but I had to reformat my computer and obviously iTunes is gone and all the music. I need to put back all the music from my iPod back into iTunes. I did this before but I forgot how and can't find the thread. Any help would be greately appreciated.
Thank you.

Were you able to download Otto's program to retrieve playlists from the backup file? I've retrieved all of my music, but not the playlists....I've tried to download Otto's program several times (last night and today) and it hasn't worked. I noticed the post that contains the program is from 1995, so I'm wondering if this site no longer exists. Any help would be appreciated!!

  • Putting music back into Itunes library after reformat? Help Macmuse!!!

Reformated my hard drive and now I need to get my music back into mt iTunes library from my iPod. Tried using Macmuses idea from a previous thread but I get stuck when copying the music file from my iPod onto my hard drive. It'll start copying(and by the way, its taking a very, very long time to copy-is that normal?) then it stops saying there's a problem with my I/O device. Only a few files get copied before stopping. I'm using the USB cable that came with the iPod. And the files on my iPod are all still there and playable on my iPod. So I'm not sure what the problem is. Can anyone help?

Oh, it took over 8 hours to get songs from my 20G iPod using that method. Incredibly slow.
You might look at some of the free 3rd-party applications mentioned in Buegie's post. But I don't know if they are any faster.

What's that exact error message about I/O device?
Anyway try one of the utilities in that post, maybe that error message will go away.

    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Having issues with putting purchased music back into iTunes after reinstall

I have been having issues with iTunes closing itself out right after I open it. I deleted the program, then re-installed it, which fixed the problems with quitting. However, I cannot copy my previous library back into iTunes. I saved the iTunes music file and the .xml file to my desktop before uninstalling the program. When I tried to add the music back into iTunes, I keep getting this message: Attempting to copy the disk "Macintosh HD" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to. It does not appear on all songs that I tried to add back, but it happened for quite a few of my purchased songs. Is there any way to fix the files or do I need to download the songs again? I tried running the Disk Utility to repair Permissions, but that has not helped with anything.
I am running iTunes on a MacBook with Mac OS X 10. 4. 11, if that will help with anything.

I had to reinstall Windows XP, erasing everything on the hard disk. I had saved the music files with backup software, so I now have them back. But iTunes won't add them to my library. I tried importing songs from a new CD to see where iTunes put those files, and then copying an album folder into the same location. But Windows wouldn't copy the files inside the foder. Nearly all the songs were originally taken from CDs in my collection, and the songs are still on my iPod Nano.
    Wow,
Wonder why XP won't let you copy files?, perhaps you used a different user name?
Or these are the old DRM versions of the songs? You should be able to log into your iTunes account and authorize the computer and iTunes should recognize the songs.
Well since you have the iPod Nano, you can head over to iLounge and ask them what current third party software works to move your iPod Nano music back to iTunes.
Hope that works out for you

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

I got a virus on my computer and it deleted all of my personal files is there a way to push my music back to itunes? i tried to sync but it only moved a small amount of my music.

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases.

  • Synchronise music back to itunes

    Hey guys,
I am a lucky owner of an iPod touch 3g, and i have like 800 songs on it and like 200 apps, now, my pc sort of crashed, and I installed iTunes again, but of course, all my songs were gone, they are still on my iPod but i can't sync my iPod back to iTunes so i have my songs back on my pc, is there a legal way to put my music back to iTunes without jailbreaking it or someting like that?
I would realy apreciate it if someone could help me
    greetings,
    Sjoerdfrommontfort

You can transfer iTunes purchases to yur computer by following these instructions:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
You can transfer other stuff by using the information provided in this previous discussion.
    Best iPod to PC
After you transfer the stuff to the computer let iTunes erase your iPod and then replace its contents with the stuff that is now in your iTunes library.  I also recommend that you backup your iTunes stuff for the future since computers/hard drives do die.

  • Putting music back onto computer then onto ipod

I recently had to wipe my hard drive clean. I backed up all my music from Itunes onto an external drive. After I resolved my computer issues I then downloaded itunes and put my music back into itunes from the external drive. I downloaded a few new songs as well. I went to sync an ipod and only the new songs loaded onto the ipod. All of the songs are in itunes but the old ones won't play, I can't edit them in any way and they didn't load onto the ipod.
I hope I am clear on the problem I am having and hope someone can help.

Do you not have a backup copy?
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases: File>Transfer Purchases
You can also do a forum search, as this asked and answered several times a day.
Zevoneer ( a fellow user) explains the options very well.

I want to put all my music onto an external hard drive.  But I can't get it to put music on my itunes.  The music list is completely empty and so is my IPOD.  How do I do this?  I have a PC with Windows.

You say the music is not on the external HD, the music list (iTunes?) is empty, and it is not on the iPOd. Then where is the music you want to move to the external HD?

Unless you subscribe to iTunes Match , Apple does not keep a backup of your iTunes library.  Even then it is not the library as it exists on your computer, but some version of the media, and only media files, not playlists.  Even then not all media are definitely available since anything removed from the iTunes Store since you purchased it is not available for re-download.

In your case it sounds like you will have to obtain non iTunes purchases from their original source or a backup you may have made at some time in the past.
