Putting music onto an iphone 5 using a MacBook.

I recently purchased an iphone 5 and want to put music on it. Apparently the iphone 5 needs an itunes version greater than 10.7. I have a MacBook that, apparently, will not allow an update further than itunes 10.6. What do I do?

You need to buy and install a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD and then run the 10.6.8 combo updater.

I think you have misunderstood the message you see.
The message states that you need an additional 1.93GB as well as the 3.93GB shown in the capacity bar. So it requires a total of 5.86GB.
There are a couple of things you can try:
Click on the OK button (in that message) and then deselect the media that you wish to remove. Once you have un-ticked the Playlists, or albums or whatever, click on the Sync button again to allow iTunes to Sync. It will then remove the un-ticked items, leaving space to add the 5.86GB that you are trying to add. If you continue to see the same message, but with a smaller additional amount required, then you have not deselected enough items.
Check how much space is being used by the "Other" category (shown in the capacity bar). While there will always be a small amount of Other on an iPod, anything over 1GB is probably not correct. Usually, a Sync will sort this out. If it doesn't then you may have to perform a Restore procedure, but I suggest you use that only as a last resort.

I just got a brand new laptop and I can't seem to put music onto my iPhone - help? I'd really rather not completely empty my iPhone in order to have it agree with this new laptop. How do I get them to talk to one another and let me put my music on my iPhone?

The iPhone will only Sync to One iTunes Library at a time.

You can only do that if you switch manually manage ON.
Connect iPhone to iTunes, select iPhone in iTunes left panel, go to Summary tab and switch Manually manage music and videos to ON.

Hello. For the past 2 weeks every single time ive tried to put any music onto my iphone 4 it comes up as not sync'd and on my phone it shows the song with a little red square and a red circle around it. Yesturday I tried again but this time all 1500 songs on my phone started showing the red square and circle. I have updated to iOS7 but not the update since then as that update has done enough damage to my phone as is. I deleted every song off of my phone on the phone and on itunes but as i was getting the pictures together for this post apparently all the music i deleted is back on my phone but all still with the red square and circle.

Why can't I put music on my iphone?

Last night I dragged an dropped and it was fine. Tonight I decided to add some more and now it isn't. I have the dreaded red circles with squares. It's greyed out when I look at my phone music on itunes. I have not time to check, uncheck, check, uncheck a thousand times.

This was my problem:
"song" was not copied to the iphone because it cannot be played on this iphone.
I did this:
1. right click displayed song on itunes.
2. click, "create AAC version
3. I dragged song to iphone, and it finally accepted the song.
conclusion: after days trying to figure it out, it was something easy the whole time.

I want to put music onto my partners phone from my Mac computer. The message comes up that her phone is synced with another iTunes library (not in use anymore) and do I want to erase this iPhone and sync with this itunes library.

There is currently no music on her iPhone and all the apps are already in the iTunes library on the mac that I want to sync it to so its not a problem, the apps won't be lost.
My question is are photos and messages and contacts classified as iPhone contents? Because I don't want those to be wiped. So can I sync her phone to this iTunes library? I have not been able to find online whether or not photos and contacts will be lost.
Also her phone is already backed up on this computer because it gets plugged into it all the time we have just not tried to put music onto it yet until now.

Iphone are meant to be sync to one itunes library only.
You can copy those songs to a cd and then put a copy to your itunes media library.

When you plug in the iPhone, go to the menu bar and select "Transfer all purchases" to move them to your MacBook Pro.

The iphone is not a storage/backup device. The picture sycn is one way - computer to iphone. The photos are also reduced in size when synced to iphone so they are not of the original quality
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup of your computer.
Have you failed to do this?
If so, not good at all, you can e-mail the pics to yourself - keep in mind they will never be of the original quality

Before you sync your iPhone make sure that all the music that was synced to your phonereviously has been copied to your iTunes on the new MacBook Pro. Then when you connect your phone you will be able to either sync all music or select only those playlists that you want on the phone.
