Putting new ipod onto computer that has old ipod softwear already installed

i got a new 30gb video ipod that i haven't installed onto my computer yet, but i do already have a 20gb 4th gen ipod installed on it. i am wondering what i have to do to install the new one...will it erase the songs in my itunes? do i need to uninstall all the things from my old ipod?? please help, and thanks in advance.
-keely

I have the same setup as keely (loading a new 30gb 5th gen iPod on to a machine that has a 4th gen iPod and iTunes already installed). I updated iTunes, plugged in my new iPod, and it worked great! However, now the old iPod is no longer recognized by iTunes when it is plugged in. This wasn't remedied by using a different USB cable, by restarting the computer, or by changing user accounts. Could this be because of the new iTunes? Or my new iPod? Anybody have an idea? Thanks so much.

  • Reinstall Lion onto computer that has Mountain Lion

I'm selling my iMac 2011 model so I wiped the hard drive and now I'm trying to reinstall the OS. The last OS on the computer was Mountain Lion and when I try and install it it asks for an Apple ID that has purchased Mountain Lion, which I don't have, so I'm wondering if there's a way to reinstall Lion which came preinstalled on my computer when I purchased it. I do not have any installations CDs at all.

Yes. After you have installed Lion do not let the computer restart. Instead just shut it down.
Before you do all this be sure you do the following:
              1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
              3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
              4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
              5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • HT1689 how so i put my apps back on my iphone 4 if i connected it to a computer that has an ipod account on it and took my apps and wont sync them back to my phone

How do i put my apps back on my iphone 4? I hooked it up to a computer to update for the first time,. The computer had an ipod account on it already. After my update it took all of my apps and music etc; now i cant sync it back on my phone! Please help.

If there are copies of your Music and Apps on your computer, then it's a simple matter of clicking on the iPhone in iTunes and going to the sections at the top (Summary, Info, Apps etc) to tell it what to sync, then click the sync button in the bottom right corner.
If there is nothing backed up to your computer in iTunes, your purchased music and apps can be redownloaded directly from the iPhone:
iTunes app > More > Purchased > Music > Not on this iPhone
App Store app > Updates > Purchases > Not on this iPhone

    DELL   Windows XP

I'm currently trying to find a thread with a similar answer.
    I have two computers,
    Two 60 GB Video Ipods
    and one shuffle.
Both 60 GB Ipods work on both computers.
The shuffle works on the first computer it was installed on.
When I plug the shuffle into the second computer, I get a warning sign from itunes saying something like...
Your Ipod is currently associated with another Itunes Library. Would you like to associate this Ipod with this library and replace all existing files?
So I click no. And my itunes library does not show the shuffle as being connected in the source list.
And my computer also recognises the shuffle as being connected to the computer.
So I don't know what the issue is. I would like to import songs from both computers. Not just that one.

  • Adding an iPod video to my computer that has iTunes + iPod shuffle on it

Recently purchased an iPod (with video) and would like to add it to the iTunes that was loaded with an iPod shuffle software on my computer. Can the iTunes support two different iPod devices? If so, how do I do this without losing or deleting the iPod shuffle playlist?

Just connect your iPod and follow the on screen instructions, it will connect to your existing iTunes and update: This article is more about two people managing their iPods on a single computer but you can check it out for additional information: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

You'll likely need the assistance of some sort of 3rd party software.  Keep in mind that the photos on your iPod are only scaled down thumbnail versions of the originals.  So even if you do manage to copy them backt to your PC, they will not be in their full original resolution.
Do a simple Google search for "copy photos from ipod" and you should get a number of hits that can assist you.

  • Can I sync on old 3G iPhone to my new iMac even though it was originally set up on an HP computer that has since died.  I want to retrieve the photos only.

Will I be able to retrieve photos on my old 3G iPhone that was originally synced to an old HP computer that has since died if I try to sync it to my new iMac?  All I want to do is save the photos on the 3G iPhone.

Are these photos in your camera roll or were they synced to your 3G? Makes a big difference. If in your camera roll, you can use either iPhoto or Image capture to import them to your Mac. If they were synced to your 3G, you'll have to use third-party software to extract them:
    http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/
Apple makes no provision to extract synced photos from an iOS device. Bear in mind, they were reduced in resolution when synced to your phone, & there's no way to recover their full resolution.

  • First-time user of IPod Shuffle, my husand has an IPod Touch and has hundreds of songs already on his ITunes account. If Is it possible to have two ITunes accounts so his music is not automatically loaded onto my new Shuffle?

Just bought an IPod Shuffle; my husband has an IPod Touch and has hundreds of songs on his ITunes account.  Is it possible to have two different accounts on the same computer to prevent his music from being loaded onto my Shuffle?

When you say "iTunes account," I think you mean iTunes library.  An iTunes "account" is what you use to sign in to the iTunes Store (your Apple ID) and purchase songs (and other media).  The iTunes library is what you have on your computer, with your songs and playlists.  That is what you use for syncing iPods.
You can have a separate iTunes library.  If you create a new user account on your computer (using Windows) and log in to that user account, iTunes will create a new iTunes library for that account.  In fact, Windows will keep ALL of your documents separate, as if you are using a separate computer.  That is probably the best way to keep your songs in a different iTunes library.
You can also create a separate iTunes library in the same Windows user account, if you use this procedure to switch between iTunes libraries
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1589
Also, you can use the same iTunes library, and decide what songs you want put on the shuffle.  iTunes does not automatically put songs on the shuffle, unless you tell it to do so.  This document explains how to load content on shuffles
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1719
NOTE:  If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  When connected, your shuffle appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES.
FYI - There is a link to the shuffle user manual on this support web page for the shuffle

My original computer that has my itunes account on it no longer works.  I am trying to import my phones itunes settings into my new computer and it is not letting me and I don't want to loose all my photos and music, what do I do?

It does not magically appear in a new place.  It will only be where you put it.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

I have 3 PC's.  Two of them I use at 2 different locations and only use them 6 months each year.  When I turn on a computer that has not been used for 6 months, does all of the old information from that computer end up in Icloud?  Does Icloud push all the new calendar and contact items over the old items?

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

  • IPod won't plug in with computer that has iPad as the account

I have an iPad and an iPod and I have an account with the iPod in an old computer that doesn't work anymore so when I tried plugging the iPod in the other computer that has an account with my iPad nothing pops up or anything. I want to be able to plug it in and have the account there or at least get my music on their. Is there anything I can try?
    Please help!

(Yes, I tried connecting the iPod in disk mode and the computer still crashed on me.)
I am glad to say that my computer finally complies with my iPod, and it is able to show in iTunes and in My Computer. I am not glad to say that I "accidentally" did a system recovery on my computer..I tried to do a System Restore to a previous restore point in my XP, but that didn't work well. I tried a System Recovery, but I didn't expect the System Recovery to be different. Apparently, it restored the computer to its factory settings and I've lost basically everything. :-\ My problem probably stemmed from something I downloaded; I'm not sure what it was unfortunately, but everything's resolved. Sort of.
I guess I answered my own question here..:P

  • I have an ipod classic my daughter has an ipod touch, how do I put both on the same computer for different libraries

I have an ipod classic my daughter has an ipod touch, can I put both libraries on same computer and how is this done???

I would think you can. If you don't want them to be synced the same, create a playlist with your daughters music, and one with yours, and configure iTunes to only sych the selected playlists.

How do I move Elements 8 projects (slide shows) from a Windows XP computer to new Windows 7 computer that also has Elements 8 on it so that the slides shows will work (Elements 8 works well on the Windows 7 computer & I have done several new slide show projects on it)?    I tried backup & restore without success.  I have also found the .psess files and copied them to the catalog in the new computer but when the sides shows are opened none of the images or music is there.  Only the text that I entered shows.  I have even tried to replicate the file paths from the XP computer to the new computer to see if that will help.

UPDATE:  By a stroke of luck I happened to find a catalog link (a PSE8D file) in the 'My Catalog' file where the imported data was stored.  When I clicked on it to investigate what is was 'magically' all of my transferred projects appeared in Organizer.  Upon further investigation I found that the projects transferred from my XP computer were stored in a hidden catalog that had to be accessed through the Custom Location option in Catalog Manager (accessed by clicking File then Catalog then Custom Location).  No Windows or Elements search revealed this fact.  I am appreciative that I just got lucky.  The Adode/Photoshop company was absolutely of no help.  If fact to me their structure is designed to avoid contact with their customers unless you're buying a new product.  Their products have many good features (even though user unfriendly) and it's a shame they don't value their customers more once the sale is completed.
Bottom line:  All of the projects (sideshows) have been recovered and work in my new Windows 7 computer.  I hope my experience helps others.

There is no really satisfactory substitute for iDVD to burn video files from iMovie.
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD 7, i.e. iLife version 9 onwards. You should also do this if you plan to buy a new Mac anytime soon, as stocks of iLife that include iDVD will not be available for ever.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast, which is the best software for burning anything but again does not offer the flexibility of iDVD.
