Putting new parts in a Tangerine ibook?

I have a question. I have an old Tangerine G3 ibook that I put away when I had bought a Dual USB ibook. The logic board died on the dual USB ibook....so, I stated up the old Tangerine and installed it with OsX. I've already replaced the memory from the other ibook to the tangerine.
Now my question is....can the 700mhz processor and 20GB harddrive from the dead ibook, be switched into the Tangerine ibook? And if it can be done....how hard would that be? I do see the harddrive, under the keyboard, in the tangerine, but I don't see the harddrive in the dead one.

Putting a new hard drive in a Clamshell iBook is not easy:
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/iBook-G3-Clamshell/49
So it would be better to put a complete new harddrive in your iBook because it is possible that your old 20GB drive will not last long....
The Clamshell processor is soldered to the logicboard.
The only way to upgrade the processor is to put a complete logicboard pulled from a 366 or 466MHz firewire Clamshell into the Tangerine.
I did this upgrade for my daughter for better performance and DVD movies. The 300MHZ iBooks have no firewire, therefor you have to drill a new hole into the bottom case.
The Clamshell's elder brother, the PowerBook G3 Pismo was the last one with a removable processor card. Third party upgrade cards provided more speed or a faster G4 processor.

  • Can I put the Hard Drive from old iBook into new iBook?

    I need a new motherboard for my old iBook which has no other damage. New motherboard costs about the same as a new iBook;
    so can I have the drive from the old iBook put into a new iBook? Old iBook is about 2 years old.
    Thanks!

    Gareth; there are no iBooks with Intel processors. These are MacBooks.
    As for your question, it's unlikely that you could, as the new Macs appear to have different firmware on the drives. It would also invalidate the warranty on a new computer.
    Far easier to put the old drive into an external FW or USB enclosure and use it to transfer your files, applications and settings during first boot of the new Mac using the Setup Assistant.

    Edge has very clear restrictions, one being that you must have 6 months of clean payment history which you don't. Either wait until April 14, or good luck at Sprint.
    I am unsure how it can be determined the payment mix up was the fault of CS, but regardless, the mix up was done. There can be any number of reasons why a payment could be missed without any fault on your part, however you are still the responsible party for the account and must live with the repercussions.

    I need to edit out parts of a song to cut it down to two minutes for my daughter's talent show. I went to info/start time and it will cut down one part but only one part. I need to put three parts together. I tried adding duplicates of the song to the list but if If I change the start time on one it will change it on all of them.

    In your library, right-click the song you want to edit.
    select "get info".
    go to "options" and select the start and stop times for your first section of the song.
    click "OK".
    Find the shortened version of the song in your library. It may take a minute for it to show up. right click it again and select "create (????) version". (the ???? is different for different formats).
    The library will spit out a new, second version of the song which you can rename. I suggest you use the original title and add a 1 to the end.
    Now you can go back to the other version and repeat the process with a different  start/stop time.
    Once you are done editing, you can burn all of your versions to a disk, just make sure your interval time is zero so there are no gaps between edits.
    To keep the orginal song on your library, just go back to the original and put the start/stop times back to the original settings.

  • 975x wont boot - new parts

    Hi all, im new to this forum but it seems great, i read around abit and found some useful posts.
    However, i have the following setup :
    Msi 975x
    c2d 6400
    2gb corsair xms 6400 c4 ( 2*1gb )
    7900gs PoV
    Aspire 550 psu
    I just put the parts toghether again, after having the parts returned to vendor, he claims the first cpu didnt work, and returned the motherboard while i waited for a new cpu to arrive. When i got it i tried the system again, but the following error is still there ;
    The system wont boot, other than the fans will spin up but no screen at all, just stands there, when i use the usb led thingy, it shows 4 red dots.
    I saw some posts about OCZ memory that wont work, but those were reported as memory issues by the led if im correct, and as i can see it arent 4 red dots the code for CPU , or can the code be wrong and its still the memory ?
    The new cpu i got was in an unopened box so it was really new, but i refuse to believe i have broken 2 cpus or have recieved 2 dead cpu from vendor.
    Any ideas would be very much welcome.
    Cheers   //  Baboon

    Baboon,
    You're not the only one surprised.
    I bought THREE 975X PUEs and every time I have re-visited the MSI website I have found new caveats for something the board won't do, or for something that won't work, or for something not included . . . no fixes, mind you, just oddly worded "escape clauses".
    Here are some examples:
    MSI Reminds You...
    • DDR2 800 needs to work with Intel Conroe CPU with FSB1066.
    • The default memory frequency is DDR2 667, you can set to 800 in BIOS settings.
    • Due to the BIOS limits, the Intel RAID and the JMicron RAID functions can not be enabled at the same time, which will cause the system unable to boot up.
    • The RAID setup floppy disk is optional depending on the districts. You can download the files from the website to make the setup disk.
    • To enhance IDE transfer speed, you may install JMicron IDE/SATA Driver. You may download the driver by clicking the "Driver" icon at the left side.
    • The floppy disk cable will be optional.
    Yep, the first one was a big surprise to a lot of us sticking in our P4s.  Hello?  Well, OK, maybe the "CPU Support Chart" should have been the "CPU Semi-Support Chart".
    OK, I'll even give MSI the first one.  But the third bullet!  Now that one just flat makes me laugh!
    Beta Board!  MSI didn't design this Board, it just kinda "happened".

  • Updating tangerine iBook?

    hi,
    i realize that this is a very common question, but upon reading through a lot of the posts i couldn't find anything that completely/clearly answered my questions.
    basically, i would like a laptop computer as it's a bit of a fight for the family computer and i will be attending university next year.
    i don't have a big budget (i hardly have a budget at all, in honesty) and so i was wondering about the possibility of updating a tangerine ibook that has been sitting unused for a couple of years.
    the initial issue with the ibook is that the power cable is extremely unsafe and sparking, but i have done some googling and i can buy a new one fairly cheaply, as with a new battery.
    however, i was wondering exactly what else i would have to buy/do in order to upgrade to os x? how much would this roughly cost and could i achieve it on my own (i don't have much experience with computers in a technical aspect)?
    also, is there any alternative to buying an original airport card?
    thanks!

    Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    I always recommend Crucial for RAM in the UK as they have good Mac support and guarantee it will work! You should install a 512Mb SODIMM for a 544/576Mb total which should keep OS X happy.
    The hard disk will be a real tight squeeze if it's the original 3.2GB that you have once OS X is installed.
    See this recent post on 2.5inch drives.
    The Wireless bridge is probably the best way to go as Duane says however there are cases where user's have butchered their iBooks and a 3rd party card - not for the faint of heart (thanks Troy Enn for the link)!

  • Work on New Part Review and Release (NPRR), a bolt-on system (extension)...

    hi.................
    i need to know detail information about this and need to generate RICE components....
    " Work on New Part Review and Release (NPRR), a bolt-on system (extension)..........
    Only after approval from NPRR, the item gets transferred to Oracle EBS..."
    Can u help me in this..............

    prices pricestamp = new prices();
    for(int c=0; c < stringtext.length-1; c+)
    mmm=stringtext[c];
    mmm=mmm.trim();
    ccc=mmm.split("\\s");
    pricestamp.time=Integer.parseInt(ccc[0]);
    pricestamp.price=Double.parseDouble(ccc[1]);
    data.add(pricestamp);
    }This is definitely wrong. You have only created one instance of pricestamp and you just keep overwriting it with new values. You need to put the new inside the loop to create a new instance for each row.
    Also I doubt you really mean .length - 1, that doesn't include the last row.
    Style wise:
    Class names should always start with capital letters, fields and variable always with lower case letters. These conventions aren't imposed by the compiler but are established practice, and make your code a lot easier to follow. Use "camel case" to divide you names into words e.g. priceStamp
    When using single letter names for integer indices people tend to expect i through n. This is a historical thing, dating back to FORTRAN.

  • Installation of New Part

    I recieved a new part to install on my iPod mini. The part I recieved is to fix the back (rewind) button because it is not working. I have not been able to find directions on how to put this new part into my iPod. Can someone please shed some light on the idea for me?

    From the iPod Users Manual;
    "Do Not Make Repairs Yourself
    Warning Do not attempt to open your iPod or power adapter, disassemble it, or remove the battery. You run the risk of electric shock and voiding the limited warranty. No user-serviceable parts are inside."
    Apparently, they mistakenly sent you a part.
    You are the first person I have ever heard of receiving a "part" to an iPod.
    Go to http://www.apple.com/support/selfservice/status and see what the status is for this repair.
    It should say they sent you a part.
    You should also use the case/dispatch number when you contact Apple.

  • Loading linux in a Tangerine iBook

    I have a Tangerine iBook with 288 meg of ram (256 + 32 on board) and a 6 gb hard drive. I have installed Ubuntu 7.04 on my iBook. Linux is somewhat functional. Don't have all the functions and comes up with error messages that cannot find all of the modules during boot. Has anyone was able to load Ubuntu 7.04 or earlier or use another linux with their clamshell iBook? I am not new to linux. I have Ubuntu 7.04 on my Pentium notebook it is functioning good.

    I tried Ubuntu Version 6 and it worked without problems.
    You can try Yellow dog linux which works well on the PowerPC Platform.

  • Which OSX for my tangerine iBook?

    I have an old tangerine iBook, with 300 MHZ G3 processor.
    It has 288 MB of Ram & a 30 GB hard drive.
    I think this is the P1 (original) iBook.... Is that right?
    I would like to know which OSX would work best on this computer... Jaguar? Panther? Tiger?
    I am a newbie, so don't be too techie with me!
    Thanks for the advice...!!!!

    Hi Olivia,
    That's exactly what I have done with my daughter's Tangerine iBook - started off with a standard Panther installation and have kept the system current in every way up to 10.3.9.
    She has no problems with her computer, it runs fine.
    You would only need XPostFacto if you tried to install Tiger on your iBook, but why bother - Panther is quite adequate. Most of the new Tiger goodies are inaccessible to these iBooks because of hardware limitations anyway.
    Cheers!

  • HT1338 just what is the new software upgrade 10S 6.16. EVERY TIME I PUT NEW SOFT WARE ON MY IPOD 4TH GENERATION TOUCH IT MESSES UP MY IPOD IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. USUALLY IT CUTS IT OFF OF WI FI AND IT WON'T CONNECT!FI

    I am afraid to download the new update software ios 6.1.6. Because everytime I let it put new software on, It makes my Ipod 4th generation mess up one way or another. Usually it makes the wifi go off and I cannot get it back on. Then I can't even use the ipod!  I am having a problem now with it shuffling. Do both red x's one on each corner right top and left top need to be on for it to shuffle?  Thank-You; Sherry  PS, I do not have a Mac. I have a dell window 7. and I don't want windows 8. I have heard nothing but bad about it!

    Nope, though it did allow me to get some missing songs back onto my iPod. That's something. But neither "Back in Black" or "Dirty Deeds" show up anywhere on the Touch. Could this be because iTunes has no deal with AC/DC?
    Quite frankly, at this point, I'd really rather not have the "ease of use" of iCloud attached to the iPod. It's not like I change my playlists that much. It would just be nice to get what I want onto my MP3 player. Not sure which one it was: iCloud, Music Match or the Air Port but the only real result of all the $ I plunked down is seeing all of my Wife's 231 Christmas songs popping up on my laptop. Really don't want them here. She SURE AS **** is sick of seeing all of my stuff on her computer.
    Thanks again.

  • I am unable to put new songs on my ipod

    I am unable to put new songs on my ipod. When I put new songs into my itunes, i see them just fine. I go to sync my ipod and it says "sync is complete" within seconds, so I know nothing has been synced. New playlists are also not showing up. Many of my default playlists show up multiple times(90s music, recently played, etc). I have the 30 gig ipod with video. There are about 20 gigs on it. Thanks.

    ok the manually manage music box was checked, I don't know how. That seemed to help. As long as I have you here perhaps you can help me with another problem that happens from time to time. My ipod likes to fall asleep when I'm syncing it. It goes to the apple icon on the ipod, stops syncing, and then starts back up again. The problem seems to go away when I restart the computer and/or itunes. I'll occassionally get an error message that says "the ipod "mullen's ipod can be synced. The required file cannot be found." Then I get the message at the top of the screen that says sync complete. In some cases it actually is synced! Any thoughts?

  • My ipod touch is taking ages to back up, I dont know weather it is because I havent had my ipod plugged into my computer for a while or not... I dont know what to do... And i really need it to sinc so i can put new music on. Can anyone help?

    I really need your help. I'm 14.
    I really need to put new music on my iPod and I have plugged it into my computer and its taking ages to back-up and it wont let me do anything until its done. It will take over 3 hours if it keeps on going like this. Please help me. I don't know what's wrong with it.
    It might be because I haven't backed it up in a while but the reason I haven't is cause it takes this long! Anyone know what to do?
    Meg x <This is how I feel. (Confused and really upset)

    You can redownload most itunes purchase by the following. What you can redownload depends upon where you are located.

  • Why do I need to return the old part, if I purchase a new part?

    Well, I had a problem with my motherboard, and got it replaced by an on-site tech HP sent me.
    The notebook is well out of warranty, aand I paid for the new motherboard+labor.
    However, when the tech showed up, he said he won't replace the motherboard unless I give him the old motherboard. He went on to say that this was the "company policy" and he won't let me keep any old part even if I pay for the new part.
    I was too tired t o argue with him, and he replaced the motherboard, and took away the old motherboard.
    On second thought, this is pretty absurd.
    It's like HP telling me "If you purchase a new HP notebook, you'll have to return your old HP notebook back to us".
    It would make sense if I was getting a free replacement and the notebook was under warranty. It doesn't make any sense when the notebook is out of warranty and I'm paying for the replacement part.
    Think of it, when I purchased the notebook, i obviously paid for the motherboard that came with the notebook. So why does HP get to take it away from me?
    If I purchase a new battery from HP store instead of amazon, do I need to return my old battery to HP?
    If I purchase a new keyboard from the HP store, do I need to return my old keyboard?
    I can give you the case number if you want.
    Honestly, if this is the "company policy", I won't ever bother with another HP product again.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    HP only has new motherboards. They sell the bad ones into the Chinese market and they show up on eBay and similar places. You have a new motherboard. If you can tell us the part number of what you bought we can tell you the "full" price and the "exchange" price of the part. They should definitely explain the options to you but I think they likely assume you want the lower exchange price.
