Putting songs in album order

Has anyone figured out how to organize music into the order that it is on albums? Even if I manually transfer some songs in order, sometimes they are not in numerical order. I have tried reloading, drag and drop, etc. Nothing seems to work? Anyone else had this issue?

See my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topics Use an album friendly view and Tracks out of sequence.

  • Putting songs in chronological order

I've downloaded a cd directly into my iPad mini..
The question is how can I put it in chronological order..
    1234,etc.. thank u

Since tracks on an album are generally released at the same time, there is no "chronological order", so I will assume you mean track order. Nor can you directly add a CD's contents to an iPad (it must be ripped to itunes on a computer first).  If the track order is properly assigned in itunes it show up in correct order in the Music app on the iPad, so that would be the first thing to check (each track should be as 1 of 10, 2 of 10, 3 of 10, for example). If not tagged properly, you will need to delete them from the iPad and then resync once the tagging is corrected.

  • The new update 5.0.1 wont put my songs in alphabetical order

Is anyone else having this problem? is there anyway to fix it?

Click on the top of the Album column to sort the songs by Album order. If you have proper track numbers, this will also do a secondary sort by track number, thus putting the album in the correct order.

  • When I import an album into ITunes...it puts the song list in alphabetical order.  How do I get it to import the album order?

Any suggestions on how I can import an album without the songs going to alphabetical order?  The last few times I have imported....I cannot get the play list to come up in the album order.

    Hi there,

Never had a problem for years untill now.

  • Can't get albums/songs in correct order!!! (11.1.3)

I can't get songs and albums to order correctly on my iPod. All but one album has the correct song order on iTunes on my laptop and they are all ordered by artist/year on iTunes, I can't get that ordering method to transfer to the iPod. And on half the albums on the iPod the songs are out of order and/or the albums are out of chronological order.
So I had been using some outdated version of iTunes on my old computer for some time, and with that version and my 4th gen Nano I was able to get my albums arranged by year like I like them.
I bought a new computer (old one still works) and had my iPod stolen about the same time so I had a new computer and was forced to resort to a secondhand 3rd gen Nano, using iTunes 11.1.3, completely unfamiliar to me. Some of the stuff I own isn't off iTunes and that's what I'm having the biggest problem with.
I had the issue of two songs being in the wrong place on one album. The track numbers were appropriate, everything else in the "get info" field was identical to the rest of the album. Frustrated, I once again copied my library from my old computer to my new one. This was a huge mistake.
In an attempt to get everything back the way it was I started messing with the iPod settings in iTunes, checking boxes like "manually manage songs" without having a clue what they did. I tried "converting higher bit songs to 192kbps" due to this old turd not being able to hold all my music otherwise. This helped none.
At least half of my albums were now out of chronological order, some of them were split into 2 albums, (one album would claim to only have one song. It had all 12 or so songs from that album but they were out of order.) Some had all the songs in order but were chronologically incorrect. (2002 album appearing before 1997 album) and some (like the one I got off a CD) are impossible to order correctly. I manually filled out every. single. field. in the "properties" section. The track listing still goes like 2,3,4,5,1,10,7,8,9 or something like that. It is just infuriating.
I have just had it. I've tried everything I can think of, I've scowered the internet and can't find anything helpful.
I'm at the point right now where I think it would be easier to just buy 50 CDs and use those to listen to in my car rather than have to deal with Satan's idea of user-friendliness. Any help is greatly appreciated, I've just had it.

This is a programming error, obviously - to me. Is someone addressing that issue? Anybody?
What behaviour exactly do you consider to be a programming error? If repeatable and clearly not an intended design choice then a bug report might be in order. If it works as designed but you think it should work differently then feedback would be the way to go. Either way nobody is likely to address an issue that isn't brought to their attention.
I am unable to put the songs of a playlist I created in the order I want. iTunes 11.1.3 has been on my machine since September of last year and this issue began today. I'd lke to believe it's the result of something I have done, but the world is full of things I would like to believe that are not.
"View Options" was set to 'manual' and songs would snap back when I attempted to move them, so - as that was the only preference I could find that applied - I changed it to "Artist Name" and back to manual. Now they don't budge when I attempt to move them.
Ah, when viewing a playlist use the List view and select the heading of the left-most column of numbers. This is the Play Order column. You can drag tracks up and down the list. If you sort on some other column and would like to use this as an initial order which you can then modify, right-click on the playlist name and click Copy to Play Order then select the play order column. Note the triangle should be pointing upwards otherwise the list will play in reverse on your device.

  • Songs on album are out of order on iPod

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my 4th generation iPod to a 30GB video iPod. With some albums, the songs will be out of order on the iPod (i.e. songs 1, 6, and 8 will come before the rest). The only thing I've been able to figure out thats different is the file type (AAF vs. MP3, for example). Is there any way to have the iPod organize the songs in order of track number instead of file type?

If they will not load in the correct order under all songs, one work around is to create a playlist and you can put them in any order you want.

  • ITunes store songs out of album order

I have a problem with two albums I've bought throught iTunes - the songs are out of order (as they should be on the album). On one album, one of the songs was part of a celebrity playlist when I bought it, and on the other, one of the songs was a single of the week.
Now, those two songs won't be put in the right order with the rest of the album - they both appear as the first song of the album. I've tried changing all of the album and song info under "Get Info" - they're named right, they have the right album liste, and have the right track number - but they still appear as the first track of the ablum in my library and on my iPod.
Other than making a playlist for the album and manually arrangin the tracks, how can I fix this in my library?

I have ensured that all the details of each song in the album match up completely, i.e. the same year, artist, composer etc.
So when you checked the "details" with the Get Info window for the song, did you look in the Info tab to verify that the +Track Number+, 1 of 11, 2 of 11, etc... was entered correctly for each song in the album set?

  • Itunes 11 songs in Albums out of order

    For example:
    the Beatles album, Abbey Road
1st song should be "Come Together"... everyone knows that.... except iTunes 11 of course... it puts everything in alphabetical order..... so "Because" is first, "Carry That Weight" is second, etc.....
I changed nothing from the previous version of Itunes where everything was perfect
Now, all of my albums are listed alphabetically instead of by track #...... also, all of my track #s have mysteriously disappeared since going to Itunes 11
    any help would be awesome
    thanks so much

  • IPod touch 5th gen... play all songs on all albums by an artist in album order?

    Hi.
On my old ipod classic I can play all songs on all albums by an artist in album order.  Is there a way to do this on the ipod touch 5th gen?  I can see how to play all songs by an artist but only in alphabetical order, not one album after another...
    Thanks,
    J.

You can't please everyone ... some people want to be able to find a particular song by an artist and can't remember the name of the album from which it comes. By sorting all songs by an artist alphabetically you can go right to it. But I agree with you, I'd much prefer album order. Submit your feedback via the link provided, and yes the workaround is to create an On The Go playlist, or create one in iTunes.

If your iMac has a PowerPC processor, Leopard OS 10.5.x is the max OS. If your iMac has an Intel processor, it can run Snow Leopard OS 10.6.x or possibly higher.
Once we know your iMac model, we can better recommend what OS X version.

  • Why are some of my songs not in order in my albums?

I was wondering why are some of my songs not in order in my albums? This wasn't a problem when I first used i-tunes, but I had to download a newer version of i-tunes to get my sister's ipod to work.  For Example my album "AC DC Live" has track #3 Back in Black as the first song listed.  How can this be fixed?

    Hello igho234,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities. You don't mention how those songs got onto your playlist, but this article may address your issue, if they were imported from a third-party application or CD.

  • IPod Nano 6th Gen. How do I get it to play songs through my car in album order instead of each song in alphabetical order ?

Basically I've got a Volkswagen Passat which allows me to play an MP3 player through the radio system. I also own a iPod Nano (6th Generation) which I'm hoping to use in my car. Have just tried it now and it seems to just want to play my songs in alphabetical order instead of each album in order. Is this something I need to change on my iPod or in my car ?

    Hi wisdoms2,
It sounds like the settings may be set to play the same song over and over.  Check out the chart on page 21 of this user guide and see if that is what is causing the issue:

  • Songs out of order on purchased album?

This is a recent problem for me, but it's happening all the time lately. Here's the issue: the songs in my purchased folder are sorted by date downloaded, but in the past, when I've purchased an entire album from iTunes, the songs appear grouped in album order.
Lately, though, they come into my purchased folder completely out of order. It's annoying on a couple of levels. One, I like to play recently played albums in their entirety straight from my purchased playlist; two, it makes it impossible to "make playlist from selection" and have the songs in the proper album order.
Don't know how this problem started, but I'd really like to fix it.

When you import or download albums they don't necessarily get added in track order, or reverse track order. I've a script for Windows which can remove and reimport tracks to sort them correctly but that's not going to help on your Mac. You may need to remove all the tracks and then reimport them one at a time first to last or last to first depending on whether you want you most recent albums at the end or the beginning of the list.

  • Songs out of Album Order on iPod

All my songs appear in the correct album order in iTunes. But for a few albums they are all jumbled up on my iPod Touch. So for example, one particular album will have all the tracks appearing in ascending order from 1 to 10 in iTunes. However, on the iPod, they appear as 1, 3, 5, 2, 7, 9, 4, 6, 8, 10. I have ensured that all the details of each song in the album match up completely, i.e. the same year, artist, composer etc., but re-syncing the iPod makes no difference. Any ideas as to how this can be remedied?

  • How do i get to put my songs in alphabetical order on my iPod ?

I put my songs in alphabetical order on itunes, i sync the iPod but when i look on my iPod the songs are not in alphabetical order .. anyone can help ??

I'm pretty sure everything from the 'Songs' list on the iPod is automatically alphabetical. It's the same on all iPods as well. Maybe you have some other characters in front of the song name or perhaps you're looking at a song list through another list such as 'Artist' or 'Genre'?
