Putting songs on both an mp3 and ipod

im sure this has been asked hundreds of times but im new so sorry if this is repeatitive but.. I have itunes and an ipod nano first generation and mydad has a simple mp3 player. my issue is the fact that my dad downloads songs from itunes also and i don't now how to seperate his musci from mine.. any one help me would be greatly arreciated.
thankz

iTunes for Windows is only compatible with the iPod/iPhone range and the iTunes enabled phones from Motorola. You need to check out the manual for your Dad's player to see what method it uses to import songs. Most will have their own management software and many just operate as simple USB devices and you can drag tracks from the iTunes Music folder rather than through the iTunes interface. Also remember that many generic players will not work with AAC (MP4) format at present so if you imported anything from CD into iTunes using the AAc encoder then they will need to be converted to MP3. If you have any standard iTunes Store purchased songs they will be protected AAC and you can't convert those, you can only burn them to Audio CD which you can play on other devices.

  • Bought an album from itunes and put it on both my iphone and ipod. The album only plays on the ipod?

I recently bought a few albums from the itunes store and transferred them to both my iphone and my ipod nano. The songs play on itunes on my computer without a problem. The songs appear on my iphone but they won't play. They play fine on my nano. I didn't know if it's because I had it on 2 i-devices simultaneously so I took the albums off the nano and resync'd both devices. Still won't play on my iphone. I checked all the other albums I bought recently from the itunes store and it's the same issue. A friend suggested deauthorizing/reauthorizing my computer, but that didn't help either. Help?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic tune (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

Now I don't know what to do.
    Thank you very much

Plug your iPod in and when it appears in iTunes, click on it from under Devices in the left hand pane.  This brings you to the Summary tab.  Locate and click on the Music tab.  What configurations do you have made from under this tab?  Is your iPod configured to sync those playlists?

How can this be fixed, I noticed also that on I tunes on my PC before purchasing a song I listen to it and now it is only playing like 4 seconds of the song and I have opened up the URL and it still won't work correctly. PLEASE HELP

Are these songs that you purchased from the iTunes Store or imported from outside of iTunes? If there are iTunes purchases, delete them from your main iTunes library and redownload them again at no cost via iCloud.

  • I put songs onto my IPhone 4, and they show up under the "On This Phone" section in itunes, but when I go to play the songs on my phone, they aren't there. How can I fix this?

When you look at your iPhone, are you looking in the Music app or in the iTunes app?  Be sure you are looking in the Music app, and look in the Songs category.  If your songs are not here, you may want to try syncing your information again through iTunes.  To do this, uncheck "Sync Music" and then click apply or sync in the bottom right corner of iTunes, and then recheck "Sync Music" and then click apply or sync again.
    I hope this helps!

  • If i used the same apple id and email to set up both my ipad and ipod what can i do to be able to use face time to call from one device to the other

if i used the same apple id and email to set up both my ipad and ipod what can i do to be able to use face time to call from one device to the other

They can share an Apple ID, but each device must use a different email address when setting up FaceTime.  Create a gmail email (or hotmail, or ...) address and use that on one of the devices when you setup FaceTime.
You don't actually have to use the 'new' email address, it is probably just used as an index to reference the correct device when initiating a call via the FaceTime server.

  • Some of my apps on both my iPad and iPod Touch no longer have sound.  Others still do.  Checked general settings.  Any other ideas?

Some of my apps on both my iPad and iPod Touch no longer have sound.  Others still do.  I checked general settings.  Any other ideas of how to fix this?

If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

    Hello Whitney262,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I would go ahead and make sure you can first download the content, then remove the song from your iTunes Library, and download again from your iTunes past purchases.  The article below will walk you through the entire process:

  • I recently uninstalled my itunes and reinstalled. after that i lost all my music and am unable to put hunderds of songs back onto my itunes and ipod. help!

I uninstalled my iTines and re-installed on my Fujitsu laptop. When I went to synch, I was unable tosynch my iPod to my iTunes. In addtion,I am unable to put my iTunes library of 100s of songs back onto my iTunes or iPod.I have lost all my compilations and my playlists.

    Hey bryce255,
Thanks for the question, that definitely sounds frustrating. Luckily, we have steps available that may be able to restore your previous library:
No content shows up in iTunes after updating
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967
    Resolution
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Download and install the latest version of iTunes.
    3. Use the Finder (Mac) or Windows Explorer (Windows) to go to the iTunes folder that contains the iTunes library files:
    Mac OS X
    /Users/username/Music/iTunes/
Microsoft Windows Windows XP and Windows 2000
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
Microsoft Windows Windows Vista and Windows 7
    \Users\username\Music\iTunes\
    4. Drag the iTunes Library file from the above location to the Desktop.
    5. Open the Previous iTunes Libraries folder in the iTunes folder.
    6. Locate the file named iTunes Library YYYY-MM-DD where YYYY-MM-DD is the date you upgraded iTunes (Year-Month-Day).
    7. Drag this file to the iTunes folder (the enclosing folder).
    8. Rename this file to iTunes Library.
    9. Open iTunes.
You should now see your missing content in iTunes.
If the above does not resolve your issue, you can learn about re-creating your iTunes library:

  • Tracks jump part way through both in itunes and ipod

I have an itunes library, version 7.1.1 (5), that is almost 100Gb in size. Most of the cds I imported over the past 2 years and have never had a problem until recently.
Tracks have started jumping to the next track part way through both in itunes and on my new ipod. These tracks used to play with no problem so it has nothing to do with the actual cd import but something that has happened since.
The library is stored on an external LACE drive and they have always been there since import.
It doesn't happen to all tracks but happens very freqently. It is very frustrating and I'd appreciate any advice please.
    Regards,
    Mike

I'm curious to find if you've resolved this issue. I have the same problem with my ipod and itunes as well, and have had a hard time finding any support on this issue. Certain songs in itunes and on my ipod either won't play or skip to the next song after about 15 seconds.
I've seen recommendations for people who are having this issue on their ipods, but their songs in itunes seem to be working okay. Several of my songs (purchased and imported) skip on my computer and on my ipod.

  • I had to reset a PayPal account with iTunes and now I keep getting a your apple I'd has been disabled on both my phone and iPod. I've already done the steps in iTunes on my computer now what?

I had to reset my PayPal account with iTunes and now I'm getting a apple I'd has been disabled on both my iPad and iPhone. I've already done all the steps on my computer.  Now what?

They give me that option when I'm setting up my account and I've got all that worked out. But my apple I'd is still disabled on my Mac, iPad, and iPhone. I can't download anything nor can I update any of my apps. I've even changed my account to a credit card and it still didn't help.
Any ideas?  I've put in a support request. Hopefully they won't take too long.

  • Songs stop playing in iTunes (and iPod Touch) early

I have a few songs where the song will stop playing and move on to the next song in the playlist early.
The place is different for each song, but it's consistent within the song. For example, I have one song where the song plays fine up until 43 secs before the end, and then it switches to the next song. If I advance the counter to -42 secs, skipping -43, the song finishes fine.
These were all bought from Apple, they're m4p files.
Is there anything I can do?

Do you have the original file on your computer? If it plays in iTunes without ending early, then the resolution is to take the song off of the device and put it back on.
If the original (on your computer) got corrupted somehow (iTunes 8 appears to muck up files during transfers), then contact the iTunes Store by reporting a problem with a purchase. Perhaps they'll allow you to replace the file -- they did that for me when one of the songs I'd purchased somehow got corrupted. If you have a backup, you could also replace the song from backup.

  • Both my iPad2 and iPod touch (5th gen) will not sync to iTunes!

This is incredibly frustrating.  My computer recognizes both devices (wirelessly AND via USB cable). They connect and successfully sync, but when I check my devices for changes (ie. added music and changes to playlists), nothing has changed. What is the issue here? I bought and imported a CD the other day to my iTunes library no problem; I cannot get it to add to my iPad or iPod. I have tried restarting devices, checking for updates.. nothing helps.

Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

Next would be to restore from backup
