Putting the anchor point of the camera at the center of a cube?

I built a 3d cube and want the camera to spin around it.
I don't want to animate/spin the cube itself, but I want to animate the camera.
Whats the best and quickest way of getting the anchor point exactly at the center of the cube?
At the moment if I place the anchor visually at the center, the camera itself is too close to the cube. I can't create distance between the cube and camera.:s

When you move an object, you also move the object's anchor point. The easiest way to accomplish what you want is to build a simple camera rig. Place the camera inside a 3D group and position the group's anchor point in the center of the cube. You can then move the camera around as you see fit, and when you want to do your orbit move (I assume that's why you want the anchor in the cube), you animate the group.
Rigs are handy for all sorts of tasks like this. For example, you may want to create a 3D motion path that flies the camera all around a scene, but you also want the freedom to have the camera pan around while flying along the path. Think of it as a camera operator riding in a cable-car.

    I have two objects with the exact same border path and multiple types of points within the border. I believe that the only way to covert two corner points (at the exact same location) into smooth points (and thus maintain the exact same path for both) is to use the Control panel method (paste in from Help, below). This requires going clear up to the Control panel. I wish that both of these Control panel options where available under Keystroke Shortcuts. This would allow much faster operation that the long trip for my mouse or pen on my large Wacom board.

    Unless I'm misunderstanding your description, Illustator's new but lame convert buttons do not really meet your criteria anyway. The Convert to Smooth button does not merge two coincident corner points on the same path into a single smooth point. You still have two points.
    If the two coincident points are actually endpoints of two separate paths, CtrlShiftAlt-J will average their positions, join and merge them.
    The convert point type commands should be located in proper contextual cursor menus in AI. But AI does not really have proper contextual cursor menus.
    AI's confused interface has pretty much run out of practical keyboard shortcuts.
    Illustrator's new convert anchorpoint buttons are very lame compared to the features that have long existed in Adobe's other drawing program, FreeHand. The convert to corner button should not retract existing handles. The convert to smooth should not always extend handles. Provision should be made for individual retraction/auto-extension when converting.
    We are not seeing Adobe leverage the rights to better functionality it gained when it acquired Macromedia. We are only seeing cheap, piecemeal imitations and lip-service toward the still-superior functionality in the acquired program.

  • How can I reset the anchor point to its default?

    One of the other guy using my machine screwed up the default anchor point position for text layers & for the life of us, we can't figure out how to reset it back to its default (centered on the text layer).
    Right now, it appears a the bottom of the text layer (bottom left if left justified, bottom right if the text is right justified & bottom center if cerer justified).
    Just to be clear, when typing out a brand new text layer, the anchor point does not appear in the center of the layer, as it normally does. Hitting "reset" in the tranform controls always moves the AP back to this position (ie, if I use the pan-behind tool to put the AP where it needs to be, then hit "reset", the AP moves back to the lower left corner of the layer)
    I'm sure it's got to be some keystroke combination of some kind...
    Anyway, does anyone know how to set it back to its default? It's a pretty big pain to have to manually set the anchor point for every text layer, and I kinda want to leave the "delete-your-prefs" option as a last resort...

    As Rick said - there is no way in hell the text ever could have been perfectly centered to begin with. the behavior you are seeing is perfectly normal. Whenever you change the text, the anchor point will respond in kind. Only fixed size text blocks will reverse that principle and fit the content to the bounding box, leaving the anchor point unchanged.

I have been watching tutorials on Youtube.com and have followed every step, but when it comes to using the pen tool, I receive a pop up message reading, "Please use the add anchor point tool on a segment of a path." I researched Adobe forums and came across another discussion with someone who had the same problem. After making the changes that people suggested to the other person's discussion, the problem still occurred with me. I am still getting the same message even after making sure I have deselected Snap to grid, etc. Can anyone please help me out!?

    It sounds to me like you're using the Add Anchor Point tool instead of the Pen tool. If you are trying to trace a scanned sketch, you'll be creating content from scratch in which case you want to use the Pen tool. The Add Anchor Point tool can only modify an existing path, it can't create one. Switch to your Pen tool and see if that helps.

    I have a logo which I am trying to animate; basically I want to start tight on a small portion of it, scanning across its surface and then pull back to reveal it in its entirety, all while maintaining smooth, natural motion. I am currently just keyframing the anchor point and the scale. However, there are no bezier handles in the spatial graph editor for the keyframes of the anchor point. This, I discovered, is because properties with mulitple linked dimensions do not allow you to modify the beziers (per this forum [ http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/202/883236 ]).
    So I went to seperate the dimensions, but the button was grayed out. Is there anything I can do, or am doing wrong?

    Separate dimensions are not available for anchor point. The other option would be to add two (or 3 for a 3D layer) expression sliders and tie each to an axis with a simple expression like this:
    x = effect("Slider x")("Slider");
    y = effect("Slider y")("Slider");
    [x, y]
    I simply renamed the sliders Slider x and Slider y and applied them to the layer. Then animate the slider values.
    I usually find the easiest way to do what you are trying to do is to make the layer 3D, add a camera, and animate the camera position. The movements are easier to make look 'natural'.

    I have an 11" Air with lots of remaining capacity running Mountain Lion. I also have a digital point-and-shoot camera. I have never downloaded images from the camera to this Air. However, if I just connect the camera to the Air's USB port, with the camera's available cable, and the Air is open, will a program like ImageCapture or iPhoto, auomatically come up, and I can begin to download wanted images? Or, will this sort of connection delete or fry everything on the Air? Do I need any other software on board? Will current Apple onboard programs allow me to download images from my camera and not destroy everything else?

  • How can I format an SD card on my mac?  I have tried the erase thing but when I put the card into my 35mm camera it says that the card has to be formatted.

    I just purchased two new SanDisk 8gb SD cards for my trail cameras.  When I put the cards into the trail cameras, the cameras will take pictures but it won't store them on the cards.  When I put the cards into my 35mm camera the camera tells me that the cards need to be formatted.  I have went through the steps in the disk utilities and erased the cards, which I assume is the same as formatting them??  I have tried this for hours and have had no luck getting these things to work at all.  It was awful disgusting when I checked my two trail cameras the first time and found out that they had taken close to 75 pictures but the cards were empty.  When I bought my 35mm camera several years ago, I bought a couple of Kodak SD cards and used them right out of the package and never had to do any of this formatting thing.  I don't understand what is going on and could sure use some help with this.  Thanks for any information anyone can give me with this problem.  I would love to have seen what animals set my cameras off 75 times in the last few days.  Thanks again.

    AFAIK cameras offer their own built-in format utility for inserted SD cards.  You should use that.  Otherwise, refer to the manual that came with your camera to determine precisely how your SD cards need to be formatted to work properly.  Personally, I'd suggest Partition Scheme: MBR, and Filesystem: FAT32.
    Try to limit the number of formats you perform on the SD cards, though, as you're reducing their lifespan.  I believe formatting causes re-writes to a portion of the SD card that has fewer read/write cycles than the rest of the card as a whole.

    I didn't really have time to dig in and understand your program in depth,
    but I have a few tips for you that might things a bit easier:
    - You use local variables excessively which really complicates things. Try
    not to use them and it will make your life easier.
    - If you flowchart the design (very similar to a dataflow diagram, keep in
    mind!) you want to gather data, calculate a value from that data, store the
    calculation in an array, and loop while the time is in a certain range. So
    theres really not much need for a sequence as long as you get rid of the
    local variables (sequences also complicate things)
    - You loop again if timepassed+1 is still less than some constant. Rather
    than messing with locals it seems so much easier to use a shiftregister (if
    absolutely necessary) or in this case base it upon the number of iterations
    of the loop. In this case it looks like "time passed" is the same thing as
    the number of loop iterations, but I didn't check closely. There's an i
    terminal in your whileloop to read for the number of iterations.
    - After having simplified your design by eliminating unnecessary sequence
    and local variables, you should be able to draw out the labview diagram.
    Don't try to use the "insert into array" vis since theres no need. Each
    iteration of your loop calculates a number which goes into the next position
    of the array right? Pass your result outside the loop, and enable indexing
    on the terminal so Labview automatically generates the array for you. If
    your calculation is a function of previous data, then use a shift register
    to keep previous values around.
    I wish you luck. Post again if you have any questions. Without a more
    detailed understanding of your task at hand it's kind of hard to post actual
    code suggestions for you.

  • How can I find out the angle of a straight line between two anchor points?

    I would like to extend a line which is at a given angle (not 45,90 degree). Is there a quick and reliable way to do this? or to find out the angle of a segment?
    What I'm doing at the moment is just direct selecting an anchor point and using the visual guides to extend it. I don't think this is exact though so was I wondering if anyone had any techniques for doing this?

    Smart Guides are your friends.
    As a general solution, you may:
    1) With the Line Segment Tool ClickDrag between the two Anchor Points (Smart Guides say anchor);
    2) With the appropriate Reference Point selected in the Transform palette, increase the W or H value and Ctrl/Cmd+Enter;
    3) Lock the new auxiliary line;
    4) ClickDrag the relevant Anchor Point of the original line along the extended auxiliary line (Smart Guides say path);
    5) Unlock and delete the auxiliary line.
    After 1), you may also click the Line Segment Tool to see the angle.
    Or,  in a case with a straight path (segment), you may use the Scale Tool:
    1) (Direct) Select the straight path (segment);
    2) Switch to the Scale Tool and Click the Anchor Point that is to stay, then ClickDrag the one to move (Smart Guides say uniform when you are dragging in the right direction).

    Select all the photos that you need to change, then click the "Photos" menu and choose "Adjust Date and Time".
    If you add a year, it will adjust all the photos that you selected by adding a year (so if you accidentally select one of the photos that already has "2012", that will change to "2013").

  • Can you change the anchor point of a swf in CP5.5?

    I have created a small swf in Flash and have published it.
    I've imported the swf into CP5.5 and applied an effect of anti clockwise rotate and assymetric zoom out in an effort to get it to spiral backwards into oblivion.
    However, it seems to rotate the swf from the top left corner.
    Is there a way to change this anchor point to the centre of the swf?

    The anchor point of an object in Captivate is always the top left corner of the bounding box. No way to change it (have been pleading for that since long). Only exceptions are Rotate and motion effects, where the center is used.

    Hello,
    New feature doesn't work at my side ==> pressing alt while using the anchor point tool would allow to pair the handles again while dragging a handle. But if i press alt or if i do not press it, it does not change the working of my anchor point tool or handles. When i press alt i see the little sign apearing next to my cursor and that's all. Someone an idea what could be the problem?
