Putting tracks into chronological order

I've got approx 14,000 tracks in my iTunes library over a few hundred albums. The tracks on most albums are in chronological order; 1, 2, 3, 4 etc, but some aren't 4, 1, 5 ,6 , 10, 9 etc..., how do I put these tracks into chronological order?
Thanks in advance, Simon.

Since tracks on an album are generally released at the same time, there is no "chronological order", so I will assume you mean track order. Nor can you directly add a CD's contents to an iPad (it must be ripped to itunes on a computer first).  If the track order is properly assigned in itunes it show up in correct order in the Music app on the iPad, so that would be the first thing to check (each track should be as 1 of 10, 2 of 10, 3 of 10, for example). If not tagged properly, you will need to delete them from the iPad and then resync once the tagging is corrected.

  • Putting Albums in chronological order?

I was wondering if there was a way to get iTunes to put the albums of the artists in chronological order, rather than alphabitical order. The way I like to have my CDs arranged in my CD case is alphabetically by artists, and if the artisits has more than one album, I want those in the order that they were released, and I just can't seem to find a way to do with with my music on iTunes. Suggestions?

Like you and PT, I also have my (physical) CDs sorted by artist and the albums in chronological order.
iTunes can only set to sort on one column, but sometimes sorting is done on multiple criteria, so iTunes is capable of sorting on multiple columns.
If you sort on artist or album and have tagged the tracks with track and disc numbers, iTunes will also sort on these criteria.
Unfortunately sorting on multiple columns by the user, is not implemented.

  • 'Complete My Album' puts tracks out of order on iPod

I used 'Complete My Album' to add the remaining 12 tracks to the original track I bought. The original track (track 9) ends up at the end of the album (track 13) on the iPod. I have made sure all tracks are listed correctly by track number under More Info in iTunes. iTunes shows the correct album order, but the iPod does not. Any thoughts?

I had this same problem and simply checking through that box didn't work, BUT, if you go through all of the boxes, it should fix the problem, it does indeed look like a problem with information in boxes throwing things out of whack.

  • How to return a string in chronological order?

I have a string called schedule, for example:
    schedule = "^14%Paul's house?Group Meeting\n^9%Nutty Professor's Office?Office Hours\n^12%MegaBits?Lunch"
After breaking it up using StringTokenizer, how do I return it into chronological order?
Return the schedule for each day of the week as a String with the appointments listed in chronological order, starting with those for the first day of the week and ending with those for the last day of the week.
The String should have the following format
    Sunday:
    ^14%Paul's house?Group Meeting
    Monday:
    ^9%Nutty Professor's Office?Office Hours
    Tuesday:
    ^12%MegaBits?Lunch
    Wednesday:
    xxx
    Thursday:
    xxx
    Friday:
    xxx
    Saturday:
    xxx
xxx is the String representation of the schedule for each day. There should be no newline after the last schedule.
Note: if there are no appointments scheduled for a certain day, then that day should not be included in the String. (For example, if there are no appointments scheduled on Tuesday then:
    Tuesday:
    xxx
    should not be included.)

    Well, then,
i would assume you need to keep 7 variables, that hold the 7 values of the days,
then append the values together in the natural order using +

  • How do you put websites in alphabetical order on pages for iPad?

Trying to find a way to put websites into alphabetical order on pages for iPad. Any ideas?

You will find some instructions for using Pages here: http://www.apple.com/support/ios/pages/
But essentiall, you will need to create a table, place each URL in its own row, Tap the header to select the column, and select Sort (ascending).

  • Re-sorting albums in chronological order?

I used to have all my iPhoto '09 albums organized in chronological order, I just added a new one to the bottom every month or so.
Unfortunately, I did something and now they're all in alphabetical order:
    April 2008
    April 2009
    August 2008
    August 2009
    You get the idea.
How can I re-sort them into chronological order?

    do it manually
    or
rename them so the alpha sort works
    2009-08-31
    2009-08-21
    2009-07-04
    etc
There is no date sort - on alpha and it can not be undone

  • I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod shuffle it rearranged the tracks so that they are in the wrong order.  How can I put them in the order they appear in the book?

I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod Shuffle it put the chapters in the wrong order i.e. Chap 1, Chap 10, Chap 11 etc. rather than Chap 1, Chap 2, Chap 3 ...  How can I get it to put them in the order they appear in the book?

First, we need to know if the audiobook chapters are being treated by iTunes as music files or as audiobooks. If they are not audiobooks purchased from the iTunes store, they might be getting "shuffled". You will need to look at "File" - "Properties" (I think - I don't use iTunes under Windows - or right-click on the file and choose "properties") and look at the media type. If it is "Music", change it to "Audiobook". If this is not the problem, or does not fix anything, please post back.
Actually, looking at your post again, a second thought occurs to me - assuming there are less than 100 chapters in the book, just renaming them with a leading zero on the first nine chapters might do it. A computer will alphabetically sort filenames in the order you quote (1, 10, 11, 12, 13, ... 2, 21, etc.) but a leading zero will fix that (01, 02, 03 ... 10, 11, 12)

  • Why Won't iTunes Won't Put Certain Album Tracks in Right Order?

Hi everyone. I love iTunes and the Apple iPod, they are my most favorite audio tools that I have ever used, aside from XMPlay.
This problem is not a huge deal but has been irking me ever since I first tried iTunes. I would post a screenshot, but am not sure how to.
I have a certain CD. It is an abridged version of a certain performance of Mozart's "The Magic Flute," in original German.
For as long as I have had this album in iTunes, it has put track number 15 before track number 1, and ended the disc with track number 14. I have tried everything I can think of to redo or correct this problem...nothing works. (Yes, I tried deleting and replacing it in iTunes.)
I also had this problem in another situation, but it got fixed randomly. I have an album called Dick's Picks, Vol. 18. It is a compilation of songs from several concerts in February 1978, by the Grateful Dead. Dead.net released for free download a couple other songs from those concerts, so I added them into the track order.
At first the same thing happened--the new songs, no matter what track number I gave them, went to the beginning of the album. (No, there were NOT any extra spaces in album name). Then, after selecting all the songs and changing the album name several times, they finally got into the right order.
This problem has NEVER happened to songs that I converted into mp3 from .mod, .ogg, .umx, .it, or .mid files. It happens only to albums originally on a CD or downloaded from a web site as mp3.
Any help at all would be really appreciated. Thanks for reading.
    Charles Frederick

I appreciate the reply. How do you check permissions (what is permissions)? This is very strange since it worked flawlessly in my itunes libraray before recently as well as my ipod and all of a sudden it wouldn't play in my library so I deleted the tracks from the library and tried to re-add them but it doesn't load them now and doesn't give me any kind of error message.
These are official MP3 tracks that I downloaded from the official Radiohead website and they play fine on my Ipod, Windows Media Player, and Quicktime. Just not Itunes itself.

  • Putting pdf pages in chronological order

I have several documents in one pdf folder that are dated.  I would like to put these documents in chronological order by date, how do I do that?  I also got a message that some of the content is not editable because it was scanned.  So, if I export this to a Word document, how do I put the pages in chronological order?
    Thank you,
    Slspencer

Use your OS's file browser/explorer to sort the files (in the folder) by date.
Rename each. Top down put a numeric prefix in place.
    000-filename
    001-filename
    nnn-filename
Open Acrobat and use the "Combine" feature to combine the files into a single PDF.
An option available with the Combine feature is to have Bookmarks used. Tick this choice.
The single, new PDF is created. Save it.
Open this PDF file's Bookmark pane. There'll be a bookmark for each of the files.
The order of Bookmarks and the order of PDF pages reflects the order you set when you renamed the source files (a date sort).
Note that you could manually position the order of files to be combined in the Combine dialog.
I find it easier and quicker to add the prefix to the source files.
Using Acrobat XI you'd process the new, single PDF through OCR.
As some of the PDF pages already have renderable text they cannot undergo OCR.
Acrobat will alert you of this when it comes to the first of such pages.
Just tick the box in the lower left. This tells Acrobat to ignore any upcoming pages that cannot be OCRd and to keep on truck'n to OCR the page that hold the scanned image.
Now, use Acrobat XI to export the the PDF to the Word file you want.
    (File :: Save As Other :: <make the desired choice> )
Do not expect a 1:1 export. You have a diverse collection of source files.
While you might get 1:1 if ALL the PDFs combined were well-formed Tagged PDF (compliant with 14.8 of ISO 32000-1 & ISO 14289-1) you don't have that.
So --- To be expected — cleanup of the content in the Word file.
    Be well...

  • How do I put a group of tracks into one album

How do I put a group of songs into one album?  They copied separately into iTunes.

Generally, in iTunes, all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist to keep things together. For older iPods each track from the same album should have the same artist, or be marked as a compilation where appropriate. On iOS devices you may need to go to Settings > Music > Group By Album Artist > On. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • Inserting multiple pages/files into a signal pdf in chronological order Acrobat 8

I am trying to create a single pdf document from multiple individual pdf files using Acrobat 8. The individual files are saved chronologically, however when I insert all of the files at once (document->insert pages->[select multiple files]) the are inserted into the pdf in reverse chronological order. Is there a way to fix this and have the pages be inserted in chronological/alphabetical order?
    Thank you.

Maybe reverse the order in which they are sorted in Windows Explorer before
    dragging them into Acrobat...

Yeah - not really. Sorry - but you will need to get it fixed so you can back it up. You are going to want to Restore your new iPhone from that backup when you get it, so it will really be worth it.
As soon as you get your new iPhone, set up automatic iCloud backups, or if you don't have Wifi, then it is really important to get into the habit of backing your device up weekly to iTunes.
    Best of luck!

  • How to put two mono tracks into the usual stereo view in Edit view of Audition 3 ?

    Hi guys,
Previously I have had no issues simply using Adobe Audition 3 for simple stereo recording and editing of a stereo feed taken from a mixer... well nearly no issues....  :-)
Today, I'm having a bad day or else it's because I'm getting used to being retired.. :-)  ......
Query :    How do I put two mono tracks into the usual stereo view in Edit view so they both display correctly there?
Put simply I have two mono wav files. Let's call them Left_wav and Right_wav.
I cannot seem to get them imported into a new clean Edit view (Normal stereo track layout) so that Left_wav is on the top half and Right_wav is on the bottom half.
Whenever I try, I just get either Left_wav or Right_wav taking up the whole of the edit view. i.e. it just shows one track.
Can anyone familiar with Audition 3 kindly help? I'd appreciate a simple step by step... I just can't see where I've been going wrong, and it's driving me bananas :-).
    Thanks

There are various ways to do this in Audition 3. here's one.
Open both mono files separately in Edit view. Then convert Left_wav to Stereo by going to Edit/Convert Sample Type and under Channels select Stereo with Left Mix at 100% and Right Mix at 0%. This will give you a new stereo file with Left_wav on the top channel. Next go to the Right_wav and copy to the clipboard using Edit/Copy. Return to your new stereo file and enable Edit Right channel only in Edit/Edit Channel/Edit Right Channel. Then make sure that the cursor is at start of the stereo file and Paste Right_wav into the bottom channel of the new stereo file. Finally Save As.

I have the latest Creative Cloud versions of Lightroom and Lightroom Mobile on my Ipad. On my desktop I have created a collection which I have put in a custom order. On my Ipad I go into that collection and set the order to custom order, which I presume means the order I have on my desktop. However, the photos on the Ipad seem to be just random photos from the collection THEN the rest of the collection is in the correct order after that.

Do you have virtual copies in your collection?
Could you please send send me a LR Desktop +Mobile diagnostig log  - best as a private message with a downloadable dropbox link
You can trigger the Lr Desktop diagnostig log via LR Desktop preferences -> Lightroom Mobile and when you hold down the alt key you will notice a generate diagnostic log button.
The Lr Mobile app log can be triggered when you open up the settings and long press the to LR Icon a diagnostic log will be generated and attached to your local mail client. While opening the settings could you double check if you are signed-in?
