Putting Windows back (not sure if this is the right area for this)
I have an Acer Revo that I'm trying to return to Windows status (in order to sell/give away). I backed it up before first boot with FSArchiver and installed Arch (32 and 64 at different points) and Unity Linux on this machine in its time of use. I used gparted to recreate the original partitions and FSArchiver to reconstitute the original files. No errors in returning the files or partitions at all. But when I try to boot it, I'm getting Grub error 17. I'm unsure as to why I'm experiencing this. As far as I know, I did a complete format of all linux partitions. I deleted them all, one by one, then created the ntfs partitions. After that, I dropped the backups into place. Everything should have worked, unless I'm missing something. Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

On my laptop, I had a recovery partition, but I blew it away when I installed Linux. I believe you can get disks from your computer manufacturer if you ask them.

Do third party replacement tips fit on the apple in ear headphones? I prefer foam tips as they block out much more sound, but I'm not sure if Apple use the standard fitting for headphone tips!?!?!?!
Answer found. Please find below an amazon review explicitly mentioning adding third party foam tips. Sounds like they fit and work like a dream:
"As a audio engineer, I own about a dozen different sets of earphones and in-ear 'phones. My favorite, by far, are my sure SE530s. I have some Sennheiser cx400s which are good workhorses, but lack the finesse, clarity and stunning accuracy of the Shures. For convenience, I bought the Apple's, as I wanted something I could use with the phone for calls.
I found the sound to be quite clear and beautifully clean, but like many, no matter how I tried, the stock Apple tips never made a good seal. The seal is absolutely essential to getting bass out of a balanced armature design. For you non-engineers, just trust me that if you don't have a proper seal, you will have no bass.
In my case, I think the trouble had to do with the largest size being a tiny bit too small, and the silicon being too rigid, yet slick, so they left small airgaps and were easy to remove. I tried using some foam tips from a third party, but their large was more of a medium, and never came close to a snug fit.
As an experiment, I dug around in my ear-tips from my Shure's and tried their rubber tips which are about the same size as Apple's large tips, but made of a more pliant and slightly sticky rubber.
OMG, what a transformation. Suddenly the sound blossomed, the bass became rich and well balanced, and the "top-heavy" sound was totally mellowed into a rich, well balanced and incredibly detailed presentation.
Make no mistake, these are the best 'phones under $200 I have ever heard. The bass is deep and warm, very detailed, and totally lacking fuzz or buzz that I can hear in the Sennheiser set. Look at getting tips from a better headphone. The trick is it has to have a soft rubber base that can expand over Apple's slightly larger stub. Some tips, like the Shure foam tips, have a rigid plastic sleave in the tip to keep it's position correct, and these won't expand over the larger Apple posts." -
I'm not sure if i am in the right room to ask but, i got a new job and my w-4 is online threw the adobe acrobat reader ans is filled out but it wont connect to the browser to get it submitted. what is wrong?@
I doubt that the W-4 has a submit button. If you are using Reader XI (actually the topic of the Reader forum, not this one), you should be able to save it and then print and deliver. If it is set to be submitted by the browser, then it may be your Reader and the browser are not talking properly. If there is a generic URL that you can provide that has the W-4, we might be able to give you more info. A lot depends on what your particular form looks like. Hand carrying it should always be an option.

Hi,
I have category, Products and sales data.
I want a report that displays products and categories, grouped by categoriy ID. Each category of each group has a number of products.
Here is the challenge:I want the report to include several months, for january for example: I need the categories and their sub products and for each group I want the total sales of each product for September.
I also want the same thing for February, March....etc all in the same report on different columns.
Something like this:

If the crosstab doesn't work out for you, just do your grouping, (say, Group by products, categories (by id) then date, and use multiple columns
go to details section, section expert, select format with multiple columns,
you should see a layout tab pop up, selecting the tab will let you chose column width,
gap between details and data direction ( IE... left to right, or top to bottom)
there is also a format group with multiple columns box to check if needed. -

Question 1. I already asked this, Can I removed the Apple default apps?
No. But you can turn off automatic syncing and Push email and set the phone to retrieve mail manually.
Question 2. Can I control the way apps access the data network?
Sort of. Turn on Airplane mode which will disable the cellular modem then turn on WiFi only. With Airplane mode ON and WiFi ON, your phone will only connect to the internet using an available WiFi connection.
I can't find a way to prevent apps from using it or switching to it when my WI-FI drops momentarily.
Apps do not run in the background so they only way an app can attempt to connect is if you have it running. If you do not run the app, it cannot run up your bill. For Apps that have "background" notification, you can turn that option off in the settings for each of those apps.
Question 3. Is it possible for the mobile provider to turn my data network off while leaving the cellular network active?
That is up to your provider. Call them. Go into Settings, General, Network, and turn OFF Data Roaming.
Question 4. I'm trapped in a tough spot, is there something "technical" I can do, that I haven't mentioned bellow? There must be something to elevate the situation.
In the US, you can return the phone within thirty days and void the contract. If you do not have that option, or if you are past thirty days, you can pay the ETF (Early Termination Fee) and void the contract.
I live in a very rural area in the US and I have used all of the techniques listed above at different times. I hope this helps; I "get it" that a huge Surprise! data roaming bill at the end of the month can be upsetting. Try the stuff I listed above and if none of that works, paying the ETF might be cheaper than paying Surprise! bills every month.

...but my iMac has a strange audio clip that plays randomly. It is totally spontaneous and unpredictable. As i do an action the audio file plays and if I try to repeat it, I can't. Is there a way to locate this file somewhere on the drive and delete it? Thanks out there.
...i've een unsuccessful in repeating the action that triggers the audio clip...it is completely random(in so far as perception goes,if a mathematical equation was put to it we may get more consistency in predicting the action) I never know when it will play...and it lasts so briefly that I've not time to catch it and have not been able to pinpoint it with CONSOLE messages. Thanks for responding.

Loading multiple tif to adobe pro (not sure if im in the right forum)
I have 4 cd's of documents that need I want to load into adobe pro, can we load the whole cd at a time or do we have to load one document at a time?

Safari is has begun opening with multiple windows. Not sure how this change happened. I prefer Safari to open with a single homepage, which I've always set to Yahoo. Any suggestions?
Quit the application. Force quit if necessary.
Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. From the menu bar, select

Most attachments from a specific address (work) can not be opened, identified as winmail.data and no data available. Not sure if this is based on the e-mail coming from a windows based system, too old of a windows based system or simply how i have it set on my Mac.

Winmail.data are not usable files. They just preserve RTF within the message.

All my photos in the iphoto have disappeared, not sure if this related to any iphoto upgrade or other issue, tried to find the photos through the finder (JPG or photo) but failed, can you help me to get back my photos please?
Help us to help you: There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
- Did it ever work properly?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance. (And no, more exclamation marks do not get help faster or make your issue seem urgent. They just make it seem like you have a stuck key ) -

Yes, except n°1 - empty Temp directory, I had tried/checked all of those.
I emptied the local temp folder tonight, but it still won't work.
Please note: the installation doesn't give me any problem. The program was working fine, until at one point *plouf* it stopped working. I can re-install it without any problem, it just crashes when opening.
\\edit\\ I seem to have located the problem, it's in the library files. If I re-install iTunes without my library, it works fine (though there is no music in it, yet). As soon as I import my library, or replace the My Music\iTunes folder with the old one, it stops working. -
i was installing windows 8 on mac by boot camp and after i put the windows code and choose the partition i formatted the boot camp sector it said windows can not install on this sector because it is gpt
Reinstalling Mavericks depends on several factors:
if you erased your recovery partition
what OS originally came on your Mac.
I'll assume you don't have a backup available that you made before your mishap, because you didn't mention it.
That's really the take home message here: have a backup!
If you still have your recovery partition:
boot into the recovery partition (command R at restart)
use the recovery partition to reinstall Mavericks. see: OS X: About OS X Recovery
if you do not still have your recovery partition, then it depends on whether your Mac originally came with installer disks or not.
If it originally came with installer disks, you would boot from the installer disks, erase your HD, and then reinstall the OS that is on the installer disks, and then upgrade as necessary until you get to Mavericks.
If your mac did not originally come with installer disks, but you managed to erase your recovery partition, then you can try to boot into internet recovery (option-command-R at restart), and use internet recovery to erase your HD and reinstall the OS that originally came with your computer, and then upgrade to Mavericks if you need to.
