Putting Windows Media Player songs into my iTunes

I just added six cds to my windows media player, and iTunes won't let me import them into it. It didn't have a problem with importing all my songs the first time. If the customer service were better, I could talk to them online, but I can't seem to find the magic button. Can someone please direct me?

Every time I discovered new songs something changed in my Mom's PC and I would have to import into iTunes differently; for example, I would convert the songs and then just drag and drop into iTunes or save the playlist as a format that could be converted in iTunes. Right now I have about twenty songs in WMP waiting for iTunes. When I do drag and drop songs from WMP to iTunes they appear in iTunes but they won't sync to my Nano. They won't convert to AAC file either. Now, these are songs from the internet and that is exactly how iTunes reads them; files from a website. Is there anyway to get my songs into iTunes? I tried everything Dave Sawyer and Chris CA said but nothing seems to be working!

We are having no luck with the thousands of songs we have to manualy add to a particular playlist in iTunes alone. .. there must be a simpler way! How can this be done . . . if there is and it's complicated, is the Genius allowed to help us out with this? They seem to only master Mac's only. . or can they help us? PL E A SE E E HELLPPP!

I for one appreciate all the hardwork and help you have been giving the people on theses lists, especially with the problems associated with the "importing playlists" from windows media. Unfortunately I need more help if you or someone else can provide it. I followed all the steps you have instructed so far in the threads I have seen. Unfortunately nothing so far works for me. Maybe you or someone can help me, I'd really appreciate it. I tried the notepad++ method and when I click on save I always get a notepad file that my iTunes can't do anything with. I click the "convert to UTF-8 without BOM" then click save as and it still saves as a notepad file. I am also unable to find the \n\ file path to replace with my \C:\ filepath. Here is a copy of the first part of one of my playlists:

Now I went and switched the part from <media src="..\ to <media src="C:\ in all the files in hopes that was where I am supposed to have my drive letter but it didn't seem to help. Please forgive my encoding ignorance if that's what my problem is. I hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

Transferring songs from Windows Media Player and others to iTunes

G'day folks,
First of all - great stuff this forum! Had some issues with my new Mini but finally got it up and running thanks to the Q&A's here. One thing I couldn't find though, and that's how to transfer songs from my media player to iTunes.
Here's the thing: First time I installed iTunes, it automatically started importing songs from Windows Media player (harddisk?) to iTunes - happy days! It all went sort of slow though and at one point I had to leave the house so I switched off the comp, assuming it'd get on with it again next time.
However, it didn't. Now I've been trying over and over but I cannot manage to get more songs imported into iTunes. Any suggestions?
Also (minor problem), in iTunes I can see a LimeWire directory, with all the songs in there I downloaded ages ago through LimeWire (sorry, I know it's wrong, shame on me, this was before my iPod era). I can play these songs in iTunes, but not send them to my Mini. Any ideas or is this impossible?

iTunes will convert WMA files as long as they are not protected. See this.
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format.
You'll end up with a set of duplicates so you can delete the WMA files if you no longer want them.

click on File right at the top corner of the screen and a menu appears from which you choose add file or folder.
I'd also suggest you change your preferences to keep your iTunes library organised, To do that choose Edit at the top of the screen, then click on preferences at the bottom of the list. There's a row of icons with words below them, you need the last one 'advanced'. Tick the box against Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised and the one against Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library - which will ensure any music or video you add to your computer by importing it into itunes will go into folders within the iTunes Folders on your computer.
I'd also suggest ticking the option further down that screen for 'warn me if itunes is not the default player for audio files' - I'm assuming you want to play your music via itunes and not windows media player so you need iTunes to be the default player.
Note though that when you have ticked the boxes iTunes will then go through your music library organising it so you will need to wait while it does that - doesn't take long.

How do I put all my iPod songs into my iTunes library?

I got my iPod in October, and at the time I didn't own a computer. I used my dad's computer to put songs from my CDs onto my iPod.
Today I finally bought my own laptop, a Mac iBook. I'm trying to load all my iPod songs into my iTunes, but I can't figure out how.

Hello Colleen,
The transfer of music is designed to be one way by default - from iTunes to iPod. However, there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod. This is just a selection but I would recommend Senuti, I have used it myself and it's very user friendly.

Yes, should be no problem if the files are in the
.mp3 format. Windows media player can't play .aac or
.m4p files, which are an iTunes only format. When
using iTunes you have a choice on how you want music
files to be saved. The work around if you have them
in the aac format is to convert these to mp3 then
import them into the media player.

Use Edit > Preferences > General tab > Import Settings to set your desired import format and bitrate. Note there is no point converting 128k wma into 320k mp3, you'll just get bigger files with no improvement in quality. Once you have set your import settings just drag & drop the files you want converted into iTunes.

They are protected WMA from when you RIP'd them with WMP. iTunes will not read them.
Go to WMP Tools -> Rip Music.
Under Rip settings, it is set to *Windows Media Audio* and most likely *Copy protect music* is ticked. This is how it is protected.
You will need to reRIP them all from CD.

You need to use a tool such as Switch on the Mac; iTunes on Windows will handle the conversion itself. The Windows version of iTunes won't convert protected WMA files, and no Mac software will.

Songs are not showing up in my Windows Media Player Library

So the title says much of it, but I have music that I downloaded through the Itunes store that is not showing up for some reason in my WMP library. In fact, the vast majority of my songs do not show up in the library. I did not rip any of the songs, seeing
as I don't even know what ripping is or how to do it. I use Windows Media Player more extensively than Itunes, so it is really frustrating to not have most of my music useable.

Based on my research, if the extensions of the music are m4a, Windows Media Player cannot play them.
