Puzzled re network config

Hi Guys and Gals
I have been having problems with slow connection speeds to UK's Bulldog broadband with my Draytek 2600V router/dsl modem. Even with DSL2+ I sometimes only got 2-3mbps downstream. As part of my processs of variable elimination I plugged in the Thomson Speedtouch 510v6 modem and voila I have 8mbps downstream. So clearly there is an issue with my Draytek box.
But I am now having trouble getting my Airport Extreme (with Express sub base station) network to work with the little Thomson modem. Previously I had the Draytek doing all the IP address allocation and the Extreme was configured to not distribute IP addresses. The Thomson Speedtouch has an ethernet port and I can connect to the internet fine if I simply connect my laptop directly to it via ethernet. However, when I connect the Airport Extreme to the speedtouch via Ethernet I can not get to the Internet at all (over the wireless network). I've tried setting the Extreme to distribute IP addresses but that doesn't help. The odd thing is under Network Preferences it says my computer is connected to the Internet.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Steve

Forget that. For some reason a simple reboot fixed the problem.

  • I have been trying to reinstall my PhotoSmart309a. Network config report says its disabled - how to

I have been reinstalling my Photosmart 309a and when doing the wireless network set up - it never finds the network so I ran a network config page and it says my wireless is disabled.  I have restored all network settings and shut off the printer/restarted with #6 depressed as I restarted (tip from HP support) and not no avail.  My printer can still not find the network.  This has typically been very easy to setup but something has happened.
Any suggestions as to how to ENABLE the wireless on the printer???
    Please help.

    Hi RGAonline,
If you connect a Ethernet cable from the printer to the router does the network configuration page show an IP address?
    Use Wireless Setup Wizard
Write down your network name (SSID) and WEP key or WPA passphrase.
    Turn on wireless radio.
    Press Setup.
    Highlight Network and press OK.
Highlight Wireless Radio and press OK.
    Highlight On and press OK.
    Start Wireless Setup Wizard.
Highlight Wireless Setup Wizard and press OK.
Highlight your network name and press OK
Follow the prompts on display to complete connection.
Press OK to print a network configuration page.

  • Difficulty obtaining open DNS IP using any network config tool.

Hey everyone...  I've searched the thread archives and haven't found a solution to this yet...
I'm having a hard time connecting to any of my school networks. One is a guest network, one is a wpa2 encrypted network.

Thanks for looking at this =]  I thought i had it working last night, but it takes multiple attempts to finally connect.  I did establish a connection a couple of times. As in, 1 out of 20 tries.

  • Wireless Guest network config question

    Hello,
I have installed SAP2602I access points at my customers location and configured a corporate network and a guest network.  Everything works fine except when a user is connected to the guest network, they cannot access a web server that is hosted internally.  Users on the guest network can access any other web-site fine, just not the one hosted by this same company on a local machine.  This locally hosted web-site can be accessed by users from the Internet just fine.
I am guessing there is an issue with routing but I am not sure what, any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mitchell Smith
    North Texas Networks

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for your reply.  I am sure the problem is a hair pinning issue as the firewall config does not allow connections to the outside address from internal clients.
Can you give me a sample config to make this work?  Is it just a firewall mod or more than that?
    Thanks,
    Mitchell

What is involved to transfer the IPs 10.36.19.145 (hme0:3:) and 140.20.140.142 (qfe1:#:) to serverB?
Would that cause a lost of network connection to either 10.36.19.132 or 140.20.140.132 on SERVERA
    Would that require a reboot?
    Thank you.

[[[What is involved to transfer the IPs 10.36.19.145 (hme0:3:) and 140.20.140.142 (qfe1:#:) to serverB?]]]
NIC configs are created using a combination of /etc/hosts | /etc/inet/ipnodes and /etc/hostname.<nic instance> files when system is booting up.
In order to permanantly remove an IP from a host's interface (say hme0:3)
you would have to do the following:
NOTE: Don't run this on Solaris 7 or below -- unplumbing a virtual interface in Solaris 7 or below will unplumb the actual physical instance as well!!
    ifconfig hme0:3 down
    ifconfig hme0:3 unplumb
Remove entry corresponding to the IP that was set up on hme0:3 from /etc/hosts and/or /etc/inet/ipnodes
remove /etc/hostname.hme0:3In order to reverse the process (or set up the IP on another host), just reverse the steps. Make entries in /etc/hosts and/or /etc/inet/ipnodes, /etc/hostname.<nic instance> (insert hostname corresponding to IP from /etc/hosts in this file).
    ifconfig hme0:3 plumb
ifconfig hme0:3 <ip> netmask + broadcast + up[[[Would that cause a lost of network connection to either 10.36.19.132 or 140.20.140.132 on SERVERA
Would that require a reboot? ]]]
Make sure to turn off any service that might be tied into that IP address on server A. Otherwise you'll have a loss of service. For eg: if you have an apache instance that's bound to that IP address, make sure you make adjustments/corrections or turn it off before you unplumb your interface).
You don't have to necessarily reboot to make this happen. Just make sure you don't leave any stone unturned...

  • 2012 R2 Network Config

I am looking for advice. I'm setting up a remote lab environment and I am running into a few issues I need to resolve. Most of these are design and config issues. The environment I am running in is entirely Server 2012 R2. My test environment has a system
center server with SQL 2012 and SCVMM and SCOM installed. The other servers are an array manager/DC (Server 2012 R2), and 2 Core Hyper-V servers that are clustered and have network load balancing set up.
Here is what I am trying to achieve in testing. I have a VM image that runs proprietary software that is locked to a specific IP address for licensing. I need to allow 100 users to connect to versions of the same VM. So I would have 100 versions of the same
virtual server running on the same virtual network at the same time by 100 different uses. These would all be accessed by users through the VMM console (Eventually through a custom interface).
What is the best way to set this up? Multiple access? Multitenancy with each user on a different cloud space? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Is this network config possible?

    First thanks in advance everyone.
    Here's my question(s)
I've attached a diagram of my network and was wondering if it was possible (maybe I am wording incorrectly) to "bridge" my internet connection from my router. I don't want my router to handle NAT, but I only have one IP address coming in for my ISP.
I would like for my PIX to continue to manage my NAT connections, and I want to avoid using a double NAT.
    Please advise, thank you

Your topology diagram doesn't seem to be uploaded to the forum  correctly. There seems to be problem uploading file recently:  current.JPG (41.9 K) QUEUED"
However, base on your question, yes, it is possible for the ADSL router/modem to be configured in bridge mode.
Not sure which router you are using, however, here is the Cisco router configuration guide for bridge mode config:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk175/tk15/technologies_configuration_example09186a008071a807.shtml
And here is the configuration for PPPoE client on PIX:

  • Wordpress install or network config wrong?

I have Mint running arch on a virtual box. The arch install is only a lamp server to play with wordpress and other stuff. Really cool and works great on my home network. The problem is that if you plug my ip address in, the links in wordpress don't work. In other words, you can see my site, but it doesn't actually work. Again, it works great on my local network.
    Any pointers please?
I would give you my ip address, but my shields are down.
Last edited by steelbak (2011-11-14 21:58:38)

I am pretty sure it is due to the configuration of your wordpress installation.
When installing it you tell it where your files are located. This is a complete URL, and will on a LAN be the local address.
When you try to access it from "outside" you will be able to connect, but not all information may be displayed, and all links will of course use the LAN address again.
Try to take a look at how to edit the wordpress configuration file http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php
Some way down on that page there is a desciption of the variable WP_SITEURL. And there is also info on how to set it dynamically. (normally it is stored in the database, but this can be overridden).

  • Lasejet 1102w plus airprinter issues plus home networking config

I have printer HP Laserjet 1102w in my wireless network as follows:
192.168.1.1 ADSL Modem in my bedroom --> 192.168.1.2 TPLINK TL-WR941ND in my bedroom --> 192.168.1.3 TPLINK TL-WR1043ND (AS A REPEATER) in my office in another floor of my house. The printer is in my office.
The printer works just fine using my notebook. I can print everywhere.
But when trying to print from an Ipad or Iphone, I cannot print from my bedroom. No printer is shown in airprinter (ipad/iphone).
When both ipad or iphone gets repeater signal (far away from 192.168.1.2 TPLink Router) the printer shows in airprinter
So I cannot print from my bedroom when using ipad/iphone.
    What am I doing wrong?
I would like to print everywhere using my ipad/iphone. Is there any config to make in 192.168.1.2 router?
The printer has static IP 192.168.1.11
    Thanks in advance.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

This is because the printer and the iOS devices have to be on the same network, if one is on the primary and one is on the repeater it will likely not work. As I mentioned above that AirPrint often does not work on repeaters or on hotspots due to how they interact on the network.

  • Solaris 10 Dev. Edition - Network config issue (NIC,DHCP,Can't ping router)

I am a developer getting started with Solaris 10 configuration. I recently installed Solaris 10 and have run into an issue with network connectivity.
I have done much research on this and I was able to get communiction to the internet established once, but the settings were lost on reboot.
Overview - The Solaris box is connected to a router which is acting as a DHCP server.
    AMD 64 dual 2.6
    nForce4+ integrated NIC
    1) I am not able to obtain an address from the router. Nor do I get a respons back when I ping it. I get an IP etc if I boot into Windows so phyicial connectivity is fine.
    2) Upon reboot the device nfo0 as shown using ifconfig -a has an IP of 0.0.0.0.
    3) If I run ifconfig [hostname] my machine gets the ip from the hosts file, but I would like to obtain this from the router.
    4) NOTE - the machine shows as active on my router, but the Solaris box cannot be reached from other computers on the networ, nor do I get a reply back when pinging the router from the Solaris box.
GOAL - reach and obtain a DHCP from the router and have the changes stick upon reboot.
    /etc/hosts contents
    127.0.0.1 localhost loghost
192.168.1.55 solarisX /*<-- this is what I get when I do ifconfig nfo0 solarisX */
    /etc/hosname.nfo0
    netmask + 255.255.255.0
    solarisX
    /etc/defaultrouter
    192.168.1.254
    /et c/netmasks
    192.168.0.0 255.255.2550
    Specific Steps taken:
Using the driver nfo-2.4.5 locate at http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/eng/ I did the following.
    % cd /.../nfo-x.x.x
    % rm obj Makefile
    % ln -s Makefile.${KARCH}_${COMPILER} Makefile
    % ln -s ${KARCH} obj
where ${KARCH} is the result of `isainfo -n`, and ${COMPILER} is
"gcc" or "suncc" which you want to use to make the driver.
    4. Testing
Testing before installation is strongly recommended.
    # cd /.../nfo-x.x.x
    # /usr/ccs/bin/make install
    # ./adddrv.sh
    # /usr/ccs/bin/make uninstall (for solaris7, don't remove the file )
    # modload obj/nfo
    # devfsadm -i nfo (for solaris7, use drvconfig and reboot with -r )
    # ifconfig nfoN plumb ( where N is an instance number, typcally 0 for first card)
    # ifconfig -a ( you will see an entry for nfoN)
    # ifconfig nfoN YOUR-HOST-NAME
    # ifconfig nfoN ( ensure IP address is correct)
    # ifconfig nfoN up ( and then you can test with ping, telnet, ftp ...)
    5. Installation
After you ensure that the nfo driver is fully functional, install it.
    (1) copy the nfo driver into the kernel directory
    # cd /.../nfo-x.x.x
    # /usr/ccs/bin/make install
If you do not test the nfo driver yet, execute the following commands:
    # ./adddrv.sh
    # devfsadm -i nfo (for solaris7, use drvconfig and reboot with -r)
    (2) Configure the network interface. Create and/or modify the following file:
    /etc/hostname.nfoN
    (3) Reboot the system.
    # init 6

Thanks Alan. I worked on trying to get the NIC working again last night. I had it working once, although the settings did not perist. I can still get the device to load, but I can't communciate with the router (it's not physical because another OS can reach it.
I took your advice and tried the sys-unconfig. But I did not have much success.
I am wondering if plopping in a new PCI NIC would be the most efficient route to get the server up.
What kind of NIC do you utilize and have had success with?
I am looking at possibly a DLINK DFE-530 or NetGear FA-311. I don't need wireless at this point just a rock solid DEV box.
Thanks again for the previous info.

  • Dual Band (5ghz and 2.4 ghz) Wireless Network Config and Dropped Connection

Hi, I have an Airport Extreme (802.11N) and a Motorola WR850G (802.11A/B/G) that I'm trying to connect in a dual band setup - but something in my setup is causing the Airport to drop it's connection (before the connection is dropped - everything works great). After I lose connectivity, both routers show up in my list of wireless networks, the light stays green, but I don't have local or internet access. When I try to reconnect, the log on times out. Also, the Airport isn't displayed in the Airport Utility (light is green on the airport itself though). Unplugging and resetting the Airport Allows all computers on the network to connect locally and to the internet for a few hours until the connection drops again. While it is up and running, I have no problems streaming movies off the connected Airdisk, navigating the internet, and connecting both N and G devices to the network.
I'd love to hear from you if you've gotten a similar setup to work, and if possible, have you provide the settings you used to make this work. I've looked around quite a bit and haven't seen a detailed description of the process (even from the Apple documentation). Also, advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated since my wireless networking knowledge is pretty basic.
    My configuration:
Time Warner cable modem connected to the Airport's WAN port. WR850G connected by LAN port to Airport's LAN port. Bridge Mode check box selected on WR850G. Airport setup for 802.11n (5Ghz). Unique SSIDs to determine which network is 'N'. Same password for both networks. My Firmware and utilities are up to date.
    Computers/Devices on Network:
Two Macs with Airport Extreme N cards. A Vista PC with a D-link N card (only compatible with 2.4 Ghz so it connects to the G network). A Vista PC with a GB ethernet card connected to the Airport Extreme. Various other G devices like iPod touches and an old iBook. Airdisk connected to the Airport Extreme.
    Thanks,

I removed the second router (Moto wr850g) and everything seems to be working smoothly. It must be some settings on that one that are causing the problem, but I haven't been able to get it configured correctly. I noticed there were some IP conflicts with my wireless wanting to use the old Moto router IP and trying to assign my Mac an IP from that router. Does anyone know specifically what needs to be disabled on a router in bridge mode? Since I have a third party router there aren't any handy wizards that can configure it for me.
    Thanks again

  • I can't start a open directory, it gives an error saying: check network config

    Hi,
to begin with, i'm dutch so sorry for my bad writing.
    Setup:
Mac mini OSX server mountion lion 10.8.5
    local users
    cisco rvs4000
I'm having an issue since i changed my networks WANIP because we got a new and better internet line.
Also the new inviroment comes with a new router.
Now here's the problem, since this change i couldn't set up a VPN L2TP connection anymore..
So i looked at the VPN log, but there wasn't any text referring to a VPN L2TP connection. And yes i forwarded ervery port,
UDP 1701,500,4500 and the ESP 50 protocol is forwarded by the cisco router with the standard VPN passtrough option.
The next thing i tried is setting up an PPTP connection, after this i got the error: identity is not accepted. this time the VPN log gives me
    an error:

    2013-10-17 12:42:34 CEST       --> Client with address = 192.168.1.205 has hungup
When i googled for this problem all the awnsers were based on OD users and my in situation there were only local users.
So i thought if i just add all my users ( 10 local users ) to an OD it should fix my problem but here comes the next thing.
When i tried to configure an Open directory it gives me an error that the OD couldn't finish and to check my network settings.
sudo changeip -checkhostname gives me the right adress, dns seems to be ok. The error that console constantly gives is:
servermgd: servermgr_accounts: got error 5000 trying to auth to local LDAP node
    and
    WARING found KDC certificate
    and
    ntdp: GetConfig: Couldn't open </private/etc/ntp_opendirectory.conf
I'm stuck at this point, never seen this problem before.. someone knows a fix or work around for this??
    thanks in advance

To check the local network for some of the common configuration problems, launch Terminal.app and issue the following diagnostic command:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll report some local configuration information and then either no errors detected and no changes required, or it'll point to whatever configuration errors or issues it might detect.  That doesn't catch everything, but it catches the common errors.
FWIW, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are poor choices for the local network, as VPNs are based on IP routing and IP routing gets tangled when the same subnet is used on both ends of the VPN. 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are near ubiquitous in home networks and coffee shops.

  • Network config requirement fails when installing Oracle 11gR1 on Windows XP

    Hi
I am trying to install 11g on Windows XP Professional, I am getting
    checking Network Configuration requirements ...
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Not executed <<<<
Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses; However, before you can do this, you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adapter to be the primary network adapter on the system. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP.
    ========================================================
In the installation log I can see:
    Checking DetectIfDHCPAssignedIP
    INFO: Checking DetectIfDHCPAssignedIP
This is a prerequisite condition to test whether the primary IP address of the system is DHCP-assiged or static.
    INFO: Detecting the IP.....:127.0.0.1
INFO: Checking the network interface display name.... :MS TCP Loopback interface
INFO: Checking the network reference name..... :lo
    INFO: Checking the platform .......912
INFO: Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Not executed <<<<
    ====================================================================
I installed Loop back adaptor and gave IP: 10.10.10.10 and subnet mask as : 255.255.255.0 .I added the entry 10.10.10.10 locahost in host file as well.
Could anybody tell me what is the problem?
    Thanks
    Praveena

I am able to resolve this by all network connections except Loop Adaptor connection and changing my computer name from LOCALHOST to HOME.
