ALL network configurations; (Such as Bluetooth PAN and DUN) are disabled in Network config, only active ones left are FIreware (no device connected), Ethernet and WiFi- all of which are set to OFF or as in the case of ethernet and firewired - cable physcally unplugged.

that's impossible, you say.
I could post my netstat logfile, and you could have sport with my lack of IT semantics. But if one of you guys woud be willing, perhaps you could post a snapshot of your results from a similar exercise first. Show me how I am misinterpreting the plain text data, I am SO willing to be totally, absolutely wrong.
I sincerely do hope that your stats look like mine, AND that you have a really great explanation for what I see. Maybe its a software glitch, maybe I am seeing things. We can all have a good laugh about how nuerotic I am being.
That would actually be a relief.
Because the one address that consistently shows up on all the various machines that I ran a 'whois' on, before Netstat seeemd to get amnesia, well it was coming from one our nation's largest gubmnt listening posts, an old Indian reservation in Arizona- Ft Huwaica or something like that. Its easy enough to find on goggle.

Yes,.. Open iTunes-Preferences-Devices- then uncheck "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically". select OK. Done!

Locking down Firefox Connection settings

Due to Google removing their support for IE8, I'm being forced down the road to look at an alternative Browser to support my users when connecting to Google tools.
Using IE I have locked down users to enforce them to use our cloud based web security using a PAC file and now need to use the same with firefox.
I've edited the registry with the PAC file but now want to effectivly grey out the options on the Connections setting page
I've read a few guides and tried them but they are all for older version of FF.
Can anyone out there point me in the right direction?

If you really want to prevent users from changing settings then the only way to achieve this is via a mozilla.cfg file.
It is not really that difficult.<br />
You need to create to plain text files.
Place a file local-settings.js in the defaults\pref folder where you also find the file channel-prefs.js to specify using mozilla.cfg.

I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

What did I do wrong? I have been downloading all my photos into this same library since Janurary with no problems.

Access Connections v4.52 - user rights in locked down environment

I'm currently working on a small project to deploy various Lenovo wireless drivers, Access Connections v4.52, Hotkey and Power Management drivers via SMS but have come across a slight issue with Access Connections that I can't seem to resolve.
I'm hoping to provide my locked down users with a selection of standard profiles that are copied to their machines on logon but would also like to give them the ability to create and modify new ones too - this is where I'm having problems.
Through Group Policy I have set:
Allow Windows users without administrator privileges to create and apply WLAN location profiles using Find Wireless Network function
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Lenovo\AccessConnection\EnableCreateProfilewithFWN 1
Allow Windows users without administrator privileges to create and apply location profiles
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Lenovo\AccessConnection\EnableUserMode 1
I have also manually set the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\Access Connections\Install\AllowPrfCreationThruFWN 1
I couldn't find a key for the 'EnableUserMode' option
Unfortunately, none of these give standard users access to create or modify profiles.
Have any of you come across this in your environment and if so did you manage to come up with a suitable solution?

However I would not do the last step:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\Access Connections\Install\AllowPrfCreationThruFWN 1
This might cause confusiong.
I have just tested it in here and it's working fine with the 5.x version of AC

You want to say that Your Drill Down Option is Disable for all Charts if i understand you right it not allows you to enable Drill Down.
In Fact when you Place a Chart you will find this option disable but it will automatically let you Enable it when you select Data Range for this Char.
Please Reply if not able to Do that.

I don't know if this will work, but I'd try logging in to an admin account, going to your main library (not user library), opening it, opening Application Support, selecting iPhoto, hold down the command key and press i, click on the lock in the lower left, entering the password and making sure you have Read & Write privileges for System and Admin.

in that case it might be best to copy the entire iTunes folder to the external. then, on each machine, launch iTunes while pressing option on your keyboard. when prompted, click on +choose library+ and navigate to the iTunes folder on the external.
note only one iTunes can access the iTunes library @ a time !
also, make sure the external is mounted on either machine before launching iTunes.

Is it possible to lock down the _vti_bin and _layouts pages with a wildcard option.

A client of mine is running an internet facing sharepoint site. I have managed to lock down the _vti_bin and _layouts pages users for anonymous by using the following entries in my main web.config file:

and
<location path="_vti_bin">
      <system.web>
        <authorization>
          <deny users="?" />
        </authorization>
      </system.web>
    </location>
But this is only ok for the root site collection. Is there a way to lock down all site collections, including sub sites with a type of wildcard entry?
Due to the nature of the clients business, they will be creating many site collections and subsites. I am trying to find a scalable way to manage this. To add an entry for every new site collection or subsite that gets created on the fly does not seem like
the most manageable solution.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

sites from anonymous users. Applying this method I noticed that you needed to put an entry for every single site collection and sub site collection, e.g. if I ONLY had a site collection at
https://me.myserver.com then the following entries in the web.config would secure the _vti_bin and _layouts folder from anonymous users:

Now this method might be manageable if you are only gonna have 5 or 10 site or subsite collections. My client will have 30, 40, 50, who knows how many. This is why I am trying to find a more manageable way of locking these sites down.
You can imagine what my web.config will look like eventually and the admin involved in continuously adding these entries to the web.config file to keep it safe from anonymous users.

No sleep option, just lock or shut down?

A friend of mine has come across a problem. Her laptop no longer has a sleep option, she just has the option to lock the computer or shut it down. She used to have the option to sleep, change identities and restart the computer but no longer has those options. How does she go about getting the sleep option back.??

HT201210 Ipad 4 rebooted automatically numerous times...froze up...hard restarted using home and power...put itself into restore mode "connect to iTunes"...I did this but I get error '1600' and can't perform restore...i've exhausted all fix options for '1

Hi folks as in the title:
My Ipad 4 froze up and rebooted automatically numerous times.
It then immediately froze up completely and didn't try and reboot itself.
I then hard restarted the device using the home and power buttons simultaneously.
I got the Apple logo and saw my desktop for a moment and then it froze up.
Hard rebooted again only this time I saw "connect to iTunes".
I connected the device to my MBP and iTunes where I was told it was in restore mode.
I followed the on-screen instructions in iTunes to restore the device.
I spent 15minutes downloading the necessary files etc only for the restore to fail through error code '1600'.
I explored this error code in Apple support and followed all Apple's suggestions, and subsequently tried the restore each time.
I have now exhausted all fix options for '1600'...and I can't even get 'connect to iTunes message' on my iPad device now.
Any suggestions would be welcome please?

Unfortunately I don't have another computer with which to try a restore from.
I've tried to reboot the iPad again using the sleep and home buttons (whilst it is unplugged from my MBP) and it remains completely lifeless. I know there is 80% battery life in the device as I had it charging when it malfunctioned.
I've tried recovery mode through iTunes in excess of 15 times now all yielding the same and inevitable result of 'error 1600'.
I think it's time to get to know the team at my local Apple store...

Try quitting the App Store:
Tap the home button to get to the home screen. Then double tap the home button, and hold your finger over the App Store icon. Tap the red when it appears. Tap the home button again to return to the home screen.
Try resetting:
Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost.
