Puzzling TTF font problems

I've downloaded a kitschy SEGALOGO font:
http://www.typenow.net/files/themed/Sega.ziphttp://www.typenow.net/files/themed/ Sega.zip
...and installed it on my system. It shows up in fontbook just fine, and can be validated. However, when I use this font in After Effects or Photoshop, it does not display correctly. Additionally, it will not show up at all on the list of fonts in MS Word.
It's great that I've installed this font and can see it in FontBook, but not great that I can't use it at all. Any thoughts on how to get this font to work?

Is that a PC TTF or a Mac TTF? If the former it needs to be converted or you need to find a Mac version of the font. You can also convert the font to PS using TrueBlue - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Why don't some of my .ttf fonts appear in the font menu?

    Hello,
    I have a number of .ttf fonts installed on my system (located in Win7/Windows/Fonts folder) which do not appear in Flash or other Adobe applications such as InDesign. I did try putting them in the Fonts folder of these programs instead of the default Windows location but that didn't work! The fonts are available in the font menu in Microsoft Word 2010. The fonts all have a dot before the file name, see below. So could that be the problem? I am using some of them to type Vietnamese characters. Can anyone help?

    That did it, thanks.  Now they still don't.fully load but they do have links at the bottom to get the rest of the message.

  • Apex fop add ttf fonts

    Hello, Im solving problem with PDF printing in Apex 4.1.1 and fop 0.93 running on oc4j . There is problem with some characters displayed as “#” in output pdf. This usually means the selected font doesn't have a glyph for the character.
    I have studied apache fop reference where is written that I can add custom fonts. But I cant realize how to modify apex_fop.jsp to add ttf fonts.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi
    Some times ago I created fop module with polish characters. It was hard work.
    1. I used free true type fonts with special characters
    2. I created metric files based on this fonts
    3. Connected to config files
    4. Rebuilded some jsp page
    5. Changed apex reports print templates
    You can read it on my blog (only polish version ): http://apex.dbe.pl/search?q=fop there is files to download with readme.
    Probably you can't use it with APEX Listener 2

  • Embedding unicode font problem

    Hi All,
           I am developing a flex application for Tamil language. I want to use tamil text in all the controls.
    When I embed a tamil unicode font with the application, it doesn't render the text properly because of the glyphs.
    @font-face {
                src: url('assets/latha.ttf');
                font-family: 'latha';
                unicode-range:
                U+0054-U+0054,
                U+0061-U+009F,
                U+002E-U+002E,
                U+0B80-U+0BFF;
            .MyEmbeddedFont {
                font-family: 'latha';
                font-size: 18px;
    Is it possible to render the glyphs fonts correctly in flex?
    Can any one help in this?
    thanks in advance

    Thanks for your reply.
    The embed font is working fine. The tamil characters are displayed in controls if it doesn't contain any glyphs. It is the problem only with the glyph characters.
    The used  font contains glyphs and works well in other platforms.
    In my flex application the glyphs are rendered incorrectly.
    I tried the recipe that you have written in the cookbook. But it is not resolved?
    Do you I need to update any settings in the compiler?
    Or I anything need to be added in the code?

  • Displaying TTF Fonts Issue with Microsoft VM

    Anyone:
    I have a Java 2D design tool that adds text to the graphic design. I implemented the use of TTF Fonts using the Family Name of the fonts. It works just fine for a user running the designer applet with the Sun JRE.
    However, a user that is using the designer applet with Microsoft VM is unable to display the font changes. All of the fonts are installed in the Microsoft/Fonts folder and the fonts all work fine with Sun JRE, but do not change at all using the Microsoft VM.
    Does anyone have any experience with this and how to get the fonts to display correctly for both the Sun JRE and the Microsoft VM users?
    Thanks...Scott

    Yes...I know the Microsoft VM has gone away...but only recently and only Sun is available for new machines. If everyone was running Sun I wouldn't have a problem here...but unfortunately a lot of my customers are running the Microsoft VM and I need a solution to the issue.
    I have to believe that even though compatibility ended way back in the dark ages...the Microsoft VM has a way of using the fonts installed in the Microsoft/Fonts folder...which is not happening. The Sun JRE is using the fonts in the folder...but the Microsoft VM is not...
    So I need someone that knows what needs to happen to get the Microsoft VM to use the fonts installed on the local machine.

  • XML Pub v. 5.0.0 Micr Font problems

    Hello--
    I am trying to get MICR font output from XML Pub 5.0.0 for AP checks on Oracle 11.5.10. The MICR is not processing correctly--it is just showing up as a regular font. We have uploaded an xdo.cfg file to the location /test_sysdict/apps/appltest/xdo/11.5.0/resource and the font is located at /test_sysdict/apps/appltest/xdo/11.5.0/resource/fonts/MICR.ttf.
    My settings in Word properties are as follows currently:
    Name: xdo-font.MICR.normal.normal
    Type: Text
    Value: /test_sysdict/apps/appltest/xdo/11.5.0/resource/fonts/MICR.ttf
    I have also tried the following:
    Name: xdo-font family="MICR" style="normal" weight="normal"
    Type:Text
    Value: truetype path="/test_sysdict/apps/appltest/xdo/11.5.0/resource/fonts/MICR.ttf"
    My config file reads as follows:
    <config version="1.0.0" xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/oxp/config/">
    <properties>
    <property name="system-temp-dir">/tmp</property>
    </properties>
    <fonts>
    <font family="MICR" style="normal" weight="normal">
    <truetype path="fonts/MICR.ttf"/>
    </font>
    </fonts>
    </config>
    Can anyone spot something that I am doing wrong that would prevent the font from working? I know that the report recognizes the cfg file because we've applied and then unapplied some security settings successfully using the cfg file. I've been scouring the forum and tried quite a few things but haven't gotten it to work yet.
    Any help at all would be appreciated.
    thanks!
    Kate

    hi....i am struggling with the E-13B MICR fonts..Please advice how you have fixed ur problem..mine is similar to it.
    I have installed the MICR (E-13B) font on my client machine.
    It exists in ‘C:\Windows\Fonts\E-13B’ , I have also put it in ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\lib\fonts\E-13B’ &
    ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Oracle\BI Publisher\BI Publisher Desktop\Template Builder for Word\fonts’
    In my RTF template I am able to see the font ‘E-13B’, BUT when I do a preview in PDF it is not showing up in MICR font.
    The fields supposed to appear in MICR font appear in normal (Arial / Times New Roman) Format.
    Whereas if I do an preview in RTF the fields appear as expected in MICR font itself. So I am assuming there must be something that we have to do with the PDF fonts as well.
    I have also tried to modify the config file in ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Oracle\BI Publisher\BI Publisher Desktop\Template Builder for Word\config\xdo.cfg’.
    When I modify this file and added the following lines
    <font family="E-13B" style="normal" weight="normal">
    <truetype path="C:\Windows\Fonts\E-13B.ttf" />
    </font>
    My preview from RTF fails with the following error

  • Different LineMetrics for Type1 & TTF Fonts

    You are able to use Adobe Type1 Font's on an Windows Platform.
    1) Copy the pfb and afm file to jre/lib/fonts
    2) Start your Programm with -Dsun.java2d.noType1Font=true
    The Font Engine is now able to use Adobe Type1 Font's
    Now my Problem:
    I have the same Font as Type1 and as TrueType File, but the LineMetrics are different ! Why ?????

    This is because the font metrics are different. A TTF font that mimics a Type 1 is just that, a mimic. If it looked identical the font foundry that created it may have a legal issue. There are a couple of solutions I use: if I need a TTF or PS version of a font I use a program called TransType from Font Labs (.com) - $99 and it goes everyway which way possible to make the platform/type of font you need. What it cannot do is make a PS version of a stylized TTF font - example: Time New Roman Bold is different than Times Bold. The stylizing cannot be converted to a Type 1 font. If you use a TTF and Type 1 font on a Mac system and they are named the same (some people rename their fonts) the TTF has precedence. To use both you need a type manager like Suit Case.
    Last, a font creation program like Fontographer can change the metrics of a font. Therefore, you can have a TTF and Type 1 look "similar" just make sure you name the new font something different than its default name.

  • Using TTF Fonts in ROME

    Hello,
    i've been using Rome for several months now (meaning since almost the first days of the prerelease) and i'm pretty satisfied. I use ROME for all my graphics i have to create for my work. I even do my presentations with ROME. But now i've stumbled over a little problem. I need to use CI-Fonts which are only available in the TTF-format.
    Is there any way to use those fonts in ROME? I've noticed that ROME seems only to be capable of using SWF Fonts. Hope someone can help me with that ;-)

  • .ttf fonts desscription

    Hi there.
    I've been working on .ttf files in order to gain access to their glyph data stored in 'glyf' table.
    I focused on Unicode for Windows.
    The problem is the flag/points(vectors) information I managed to recover doesn't seem to follow the description given in Microsoft .ttf fonts docummentation (http://www.microsoft.com/typography/tt/ttf_spec/ttch02.doc    - sorry I'm forbidden to
    paste links yet).
    In my case it worked with the period sign (e.g. Arial.ttf the square that it consist of was described as I predicted) but not so much with, say, simple slash sign. And so far I only considered single contour glyphs so it's to be easier.
    I also succeeded, partially, with rounded period sign (e.g. Courier.ttf) although it was rather edgy.
    Am I missing something or the docummentation is out of date already?
    For anybody who possibly digs TTFs I'd be more than grateful for getting any response from.
    Best regards

  • InDesign treats ttf font as otf

    Hi,
    I'm having a problem with the font Wingdings in InDesign. I have it installed as ttf on my computer, i searched through my harddrives and there's no otf version of that font anywhere. Still, when I open InDesign and use the font Wingdings, in the font selection list it comes up with the otfsymbol on the left side (instead of the TT that's used for ttf fonts).
    I'm workning on a project together with another person. When I open his file it says that the font Wingdings (TT) is missing. When he opens my file he gets the message Wingdings (OTF) is missing. He gets this message even when I package the indd-file together with all used fonts. I have no idea how to solve this problem so any help is appreciated.
    The main issue is that the right fonts are not attached when I package the file. I'm wondering if this will cause a problem when the I send the file to be printed?

    I had this same problem when i updated one of our macs to new model, i had cs4 runnning on both macs, one g5 running tiger one g5 running snow leopard, when i opened the same job on each computer i had font differences, same as your getting.
    MY SOLUTION .... i found that if i uninstalled the fonts and then re-installed the fonts using FontBook on both computers the problem disappears was fixed.
    Let me know how you get on
    (also if you add the fonts directly into indesign fonts folder this sometimes clears the problem)

  • InDesign CS 5.5 (W7/64Bit) doesn't recognise a replaced TTF font

    I have a strange problem here. I use certain ttf font for creating documents in office products as well as in Adobe Products like InDesign. Since there is a newer version of that font available, I uninstalled the older version in Windows -> Control Panel -> Fonts folder an installed the newer version of that font.
    Now all office applications as well as some Adobe applications (PS, Illustrator) show the new font from the fonts menu. But InDesign refuses to deal with that font. InDesign still shows the old version. Therefore I checked the fonts folder of InDesign. But this one is empty. How can I convice InDesign to accept the new font?
    Any help is appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Torsten

    Guys, we made it!
    Allthough there were no TTFs in the Adobe InDesign Font folder I found a Windows sub folder where the old version of the font was located with a ~ sign in its name. As I tried to delete this one, I got the message that it was in use. So after rebooting the system, I was able to delte this file. Then I deleted the InDesign font cache file and started InDesign and ... tada!!! .... it showed up correctly in InDesign. Thank you so much

  • Very weird font problem

    I have a very weird and annoying font problem with the left menu bar of iTunes 8.2(23)
    Some but not all menu items are displayed like a mix of Hebrew and unprintable caracters.
    But once the menu item is selected, the font is back to normal !
    The weired thing is that TV Series and Shopping cart menu items are displayed (in French, because the interface is in French) as expected.
    I don't know if it is related, but I have Russian-PC keyboard installed too, Adobe CS4 (which installed Adobe fonts) and my OS interface is in French.

    How did you go about finding this Lucida Grande.ttf? I did a search and didn't find it. I have the same weird font thing in itunes. I recently installed a whack of fonts from another computer. Any help would be appreciated.

    I am running Snow Leopard. Transferring the same texts to TextEdit has no problems, so this is a Pages problem, I think.  Corruption of Times New Roman and Arial fonts, I suspect, but where? and what do I do about it? I just need to be pointed to a source of advice, I think.

  • Glitches in address fill-ins with nicknames; default font problem; plus other glitches in Thunderbird 31.3.0 and 31.4.0; can I roll back to an earlier version?

    I am unhappy with the recent upgrade to Thunderbird 31.3.0 and now 31.4.0. My bottom line question is whether I can roll back to the previous version, which was working well for me.
    The problems I have encountered include:
    1. I used to be able to enter a single letter in many cases in the address field, and the autocomplete would fill in the entry that I always use with that single letter. That function has been lost, as has auto fill-in based on the nicknames I have entered in my Address Book. I see there is another thread on this problem (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1036962), but no satisfactory answer so far. Entering a single letter now pulls up completely unrelated address entries that may not even have that letter as part of the name, address or nickname for that unrelated address. I have created new nicknames to try to adapt to this problem, but even these new nicknames no longer work with the 31.4.0 upgrade yesterday, forcing me to create yet more complex and hard-to-remember nicknames to pull up my frequent addressees. This is all very frustrating to me, as I depend on speed and ease when creating messages.
    2. Also, I used to be able to enter a single letter in the address field and then use the mouse to click on the "To:" symbol to the left of the next address line to change the next entry to "Cc:"; doing so would then cause the complete address to fill in in the "To:" address field, and make the next field ready for an entry. That no longer works. If I use that technique, the shortcut that I entered in the first field gets included along with the address (if I'm lucky enough to have the address itself selected now, given the problems I've mentioned above). I now have to press "Enter" in order to get the address in the first field to "take" correctly, and then have to click on the "To:" symbol for the next line as a separate action. Just another inconvenience with the new version.
    3. While still on the subject of addresses, personally I see no reason why the address and subject fields should now be colored blue by default rather than appearing as blank, white fields. I far prefer the old look. And I suspect that changing from the blue color to a nice, clean, white field takes time and computer resources that slow things down.
    4. The default font (Times in my case) no longer "takes" when replying to or forwarding messages. I've checked Tools/Options/Composition, and Times is still shown as my default font. However, when I start to type (in a reply with the original message quoted or in a forwarded message), the result is "Variable Width". In order to get Times, I need to highlight the block of text after typing, including the lead-in to the quoted message or the header of the forwarded message, and select "Times" when "(mixed)" shows up. This is a big pain; I often forget to do so and end up having to edit the Unsent Message (which I check before sending) as New and correct the font.
    5. A minor problem: I rely on the reminder to attach a message which shows up when an "attachment-related" word is entered in the body of the message. It has been a wonderful feature of Thunderbird that has prevented me on many occasions from sending off messages without the attachments. However, in the new versions, even if I have indeed added the attachment, a pop-up comes up on sending the message saying there has been no attachment and asking if I want to add one. It's easy enough to just click "No", but it's yet one more unnecessary and distracting step that this new version is requiring of the user.
    I'm really sad to see these various changes/glitches. I love Thunderbird and it bothers me deeply to find myself mired in so many new problems that slow down my work. I would be grateful for any suggestions and advice, and, particularly, for any information as whether I can roll back to the version prior to 31.3.0 that was working well for me.

    Thank you, Zenos. I tried rolling back to v31.2.0, since I had not encountered problems prior to December. However, that didn't help. So I followed your valuable suggestion to revert to v24.6; that seems to have done the trick.
    I would like to mark this problem as "Solved" -- the rollback seems to have worked. However, since my original post was a complex mix of things, before I do that, should I post the individual problem sets that I had noted (address fields/nicknames problems -- numbers 1-3; default font problem -- number 4; attachment reminder problem -- number 5) as separate issues which have not been solved?
    Do you know if these various issues are being worked on? I'm glad to have the temporary fix of rolling back to an earlier version, but I'd like to get back on the current update schedule at some point if and when these problems have been corrected.
    Thank you again!
