PVC2300 - Video Monitoring System (3 urgent questions)

Hi there,
I'm pretty sure these questions have been asked before - but could not find answers to these.
Setup:
When running a Video Surveillance setup, with up to 16, PVC2300 cameras connected to the Video Monitoring System (LBAVMS16):
1. Does the PC running LBAVMS16 need to be "on" all the time for the video feed to be stored on a NSS device?
2. Is there any difference between the "old Linksys" monitoring software and "LBAVMS16"?
3. Can you run a mixed camera (WVC2300 and PVC2300) environment using "LBAVMS16"?
I have a partner testing the solution and I would guess they are not the only ones facing these same questions.
Many thanks in advance!

Hello,
First, you want to use SWVMS16.  Its the newer Small Business Software Video Monitoring System that will work with WVC210, PVC2300, WVC2300, and PVC300 (new).
http://www.cisco.com/cisco/web/solutions/small_business/products/security/small_business_video_surveillance_cameras/index.html
The 'latest' version you will find here is 1.0.0, but when we announce the PVC300 orderable, that should go to 1.0.1.
Please upgrade both the PVC2300 and WVC2300 to 'Camera' FW version 1.0.1 for it to work with SWVMS16.
This SW is free so just come back and check in the coming weeks for the update.
The older LBAVMS16 will not support the PVC300 and has the old Linksys SKIN and is actually a different SW completely.   The newer one is the Cisco small business offering we will have going forward.   The older SW would allow you to set up the motion detection and then it would run in the task bar, and it would record as motion occurred, even though it was not open.
The new SWVMS16 has a concept of a MAIN console (role based access) and after you define the 'Always' on or 'Motion Detection' configuration, you will then need to click on START/STOP in the Recordings GUI Drawer and select START RECORDING SCHEDULE and then all the cameras will have a Green LED indicator on the screen showing they are active and ready and will follow the configuration.   You can minimize it at this point, but you cant close it.  CLosing it will stop the schedule.   The datasheet should show the PC requirements to run this application, and to be honest, if you have more than 4 cameras, this is not a part time task.  Of course, it will depend on the Video quality you set up on each camera, but you will find monitoring 8 cameras will use your CPU and Memory (run the Windows Task manager to see).  This is why for 16 cameras, we recommed a very powerful PC with alot of RAM.
I am running a Dual Intel Core 2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz Machine with 1 GB or RAM and with 4 cameras at Highest quality it runs at 45-55% CPU utilization, just as an example.    So the point is this PC should be pretty much dedicated to this function of monitoring, recording, playback.
Now keep something else in mind.  The Cameras (all of ours) dont need the SWVMS16 to do motion detection to NSS, or EMAIL.  The cameras themselves can FTP (client) motion detection (MPEG4 or MJPEG) direct to NSS (FTP server) or SMTP Mail.  Its configured on the Camera.   And with a PC Browser, you can monitor the Camera, or QuickTime, etc.  The SWVMS just makes it easy to monitor them all in one place with all the convenience and functions you would use in a SMB.  So technically SWVMS16 is not needed to operate motion detection to the NSS, but if you are running SWVMS, then yes, it needs to be on.
In fact, I run BOTH on my cameras.  That is, I have them set to FTP to my NSS, and I also have them monitored by SWVMS.  Our Cameras are dual stream, dual codec, and have no problem with this, and can be monitored from up to 10 HTTP servers as well (RTSP increases that), which is usually enough.
An interesting twist, which is also practiced and supported, is defining the NSS File Share as the SWVMS16 Video Storage location.  Just another option to consider.
Hope this clarifies a little?

  • Video Monitoring System

I have just downloaded the Cisco Video Monitoring System. The look and feel are GREAT! BUT... I cant seem to figure out how to make it work for me
I have 2 monitors i would like the Cisco Video Monitoring System on SCREEN #2 not Screen #1.. and there are no setting in the program to make this happen or at least i have not found one. I have tried to run the program with the argument -window and it does not seem to respond to that does anyone have a work around for this? to make this program work for me i must be able to work on screen 1 and have the cisco monitoring program on screen #2 Please help!!!!! ASAP

I am not 100% I understood the question so let me restate it to be sure.
You have a IP based video camera and you want to know if you can use a dynamic DNS service to remotely manage/view the camera.
As long as the video camera is IP based then the use of a dynamic DNS service to remotely access it is possible.  In order to do this there are a couple critical steps to make sure happen.
    1) Setup the camera so it can be accessed locally via a static IP
    2) Configure your border router, for SMB this is usually the firewall, to forward the correct traffic to the camera.    If you only have 1 global ip address then you may want to look at PAT aka NAT overloading.  If you have multiple global ip adddress' then using 1 via NAT is probabally your best option.  Make sure that when your doing this step you also create the access-list rules to allow the traffic to pass.
Now steps 1 and 2 is what you would normally do for any connection from outside the office.  The next step is where dynamic DNS will come into play.
    3) Setup your dynamic DNS entry.  This step will vary from vendor to vendor but generally the people who use a Dynamic DNS service only have 1 Dynamic IP address.  If this matches your situation then you can place the dynamic DNS client, or whatever the service uses to identify your current ip address, on a workstation or server that is using the same global ip as the camera.  Normally this means anywhere, but if you have more than 1 dynamic global address then be aware of where it is going as you don't want the wrong ip populated for dynamic dns.
Now your done.  You should be able to go to access it from your dynamic dns entry i.e. securitycam.dynamicdnsservice.com

  • Cisco Video Monitoring System won't connect

    Hi,
I have two PVC-300 cameras and I'm using the Cisco Video Monitoring System. I installed the Monitoring System to my laptop and everything worked fine.
Now I'm tring to install it to our receptionist's laptop (with same config file) and it won't work. I've even re-installed Windows and still nothing. I can ping both cameras and I can even login to the web-based GUI, but I can't get the video feed to show from the Monitoring System. The Monitoring System's search finds both cameras, but won't show the video feed. It just keeps "Connecting..."
All the devices are on the same network/subnet. The cameras are on v.1.0.1.13 and Video Monitoring System on v.1.2.1. The laptop (Sony Vaio) runs WindowsXP SP3.
What to do, what to do?

I feel like I just answered this question recently, lol

Take note of the section "Network".
    RTP: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real-time_Transport_Protocol
The issue could be a couple different problems, but the most likely is that RTP traffic is not allowed by the firewall.  Since they are on the same subnet it is most likely a software firewall.  Like windows firewall.
Make sure the systems have windows firewall disabled and retry.  If it works you can re-enable the windows firewall and then configure it properly.  Here is a article that lists some information that may help you configure the firewall properly:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/serve/firewall.aspx
Much of that document is for windows media server, but windows media server uses the same ports and such as the camera.  (thats from memory)

  • Small Business Video Monitoring System SWVMS16 - Preset Point Deletion Issue

When using the Video Monitoring System with a PVC-300 camera, I created a Preset Point with the name "Bev and Al's Place"  The apostrophe has caused issues.  The preset point will not work, and now I cannot get rid of that preset point.  I have tried using the single clear preset point option, the "clear all" for preset points, plus uninstalled the Video Monitoring System, deleted all the files that I think were related to the software, plus removed the registry variables that comprised the preset point that I found in there.
Any Ideas as to how to get rid of that preset point?  There must be a file that is lurking around or some other registry setting?

    Hey Dave,
Thanks for looking into this, but this is not the case.  I did not mention that I did a camera reset to factory on the configuration too, thus wiping out all the presets that were on the camera too.  The only place that still has presets configured now is in SWVMS16 and I have only one right now and that is the one that I cannot delete.  What is also interesting is that when I configured the preset as "Bev and Al's Place"....the preset is listed as "Bev and Al"...it dropped all the characters after the apostrophe.
There has to be a file or registry that is picking this up.  I did reset the camera to factory, uninstalled the SWVMS16, removed registry settings that contained the presets, and deleted all data and program files too that were related to SWVMS16.
After, what I thought I cleaned up all the files, I reinstalled only the SWVMS16 software and not the camera installation wizard, and the management software found the camera and when I clicked on presets within SWVMS16, the one still remained, "Bev and Al".  There has to be a registry setting or a file in an obscure location that is holding onto this data.  Just haven't found it yet.
When I opened a web page to the camera directly, there were no presets in the list there.
Still no solution to this issue.  Looks like a defect in using the apostrophe in preset list names.

  • LINKSYS VIDEO MONITORING SYSTEM 2.0.2.1 SWVMS16

I have been using this software for quite sometime, very good, but my external HD failed and i had to get a replacement.
Unfortunately, when I tried to use the monitoring system again, it was asking for my password, which i forgot. I have uninstalled the software few time and tried to re install, but everytime it is asking for my password. Is there a way to re install the software and give another username and password. Or could i just delete the file that contains the username and password and re create a new one. thanks for your help

    Hi Noelandre42,
Browse to Program Files\Cisco\Video Monitoring System. Look in that folder for RegEx.exe. If the file is there, open it and select Invalidate Password. This will allow you to use the default password: admin
If the RegEx.exe file is not in the folder, please call Small Business Support and ask for assistance. If the person you speak with is not sure where to get the file, please reference this post and I can assist.

  • Linksys video monitoring system - SWVMS16 - PROBLEMS

New to this forum - old Linksys user.
I purchased a WVC210 camera several months ago and I have been using it to remotely monitor my home while away visiting family thoughout the country. It has been working flawlessly.
I just decided to install the Video Monitoring System that came with the camera initially. It is the 1.0 version. When I try to run the program I get past the password window by typing admin as both the username and password.  I then get an error message saying that there are "missing or corrupt resource files - must reinstall the system to solve this problem" .  I reinstalled the system and got the same error.
I then downloaded and installed the newer version (1.2) of the system and get the same error message. What am I doing wrong?
TIA for any assistance or advice - TomF

I am running 2002 version of XP Media Center Editon w/SP2.  I believe that this OS is basically XP Pro.
This is the only computer that I would be interested in using this utility on, so it would be fruitless to try it on any of my other computers.
    Thanks - TomF

  • Can't Access WVC200 with the Cisco Video Monitoring System

I have contacted the help desk but nothing is forthcoming.
I need help to configure a WVC200 to with the Cisco video monitoring system. In the camera configuration there is no drop down item for a Linksys wvc200 camera only the WVC210 camera. Thus access is not possible. With my other camera WVC 210 there is no problem. Who can help?
Also the Cisco video monitoring system cannot reduce in size (drag smwller) but only full screen or nothing.. how can I move the monitor to my other video screen.
    Mike

    Steven
I know it is not a bug and that WVC 200 is not supported anymore but I find that a lame excuse. I only bought this 18 months ago and now Cisco does not support this. If it had been 5 years ago then I could accept.
Why you can't add a wvc200 template in the Cisco video monitoring systemn I just do not know.
Even the latest WVC200 fireware is only released this year.

  • Forgot the password of Video Monitoring System

    Hi There,
How can I change the password for the admin account of the Cisco Video Monitoring System? I have to hold a demo next week and I forgot the password and I cannot get in. I Tried to uninstall the software but still requires the same username password, it wont let me give new password during the installation.
    Please advise!
    Thanks,
    Gergely

    Hi Gergely,
We have heard of this happening before.
Yeah, if you dont see the login screen prompting you to set a PW, then there is one set.
1st time install looks like this...
So this means you probably  need to reset the user account via registry, here is the steps and let me know if this can fix it:
(Always consult with your System Administrator if not famaliar with this).
    Uninstall SWVMS SW.  Then...
    1.       Click  Start, click Run, type regedit in the open box, and then click OK
    2.       Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NUUOIP\UserAccount
    3.       Double click on file UserCount, and change value data box to 0, and then click OK
This should allow you to reinstall and reset  password for access to SWVMS (NUUO under the covers).
    I hope this helps.

  • Video Monitoring System - Linksys by Cisco

Hey all.  I have Video monitoring software, with 7 WVC2300 cameras.  I can access each individual camera over the web, no problem.  I can RDP to the server running the software no problem (a little choppy).  My question is.  Can you connect directly to the software over the web?  If so how do you set this up?  What ports to open?
    Thanks in advance.

I think this portion is discussed thoroughly in Chapter 5 “Installing and Using the Viewer and Recorder Software” section of the WVC2300 user guide. If incase you have no copy, you can download it in this link:

  • How to do Video monitoring  with javaFX2.0

I want to do a video monitoring System with javaFx2.0 but i don,t know how to do it , who can help me ?thanks!

Camera control is a big one for me too (snapshots, more than video). I have a tablet application that needs to take photos out in the field and store them. It's a borderline show-stopper actually, although I'm hoping I can do something hacky with some background stuff and facade my own GUI over the top of it. The OP may find something like this works for them too. Check out this for some tips: http://www.mutong.com/fischer/java/usbcam/
There's been a lot of work done in the JMF space (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/tech/index-jsp-140239.html). Does the JFX team need to re-implement all this? Can't we just integrate with what's there?
As an aside, 2013 is a fair way off and if JFX is wanting to compete in the 'gaming' space, camera and audio control will be important (e.g. http://www.smartfoxserver.com/ has a video API and it's used for [url http://www.littlespaceheroes.com/]Club Penguin or [url http://www.littlespaceheroes.com/]Little Space Heroes - would be great to see things like this come across to JFX - one platform for everyone!).

  • Urgent question:can you replace source video and automatically have AE swap clips in timeline?

    Hi there
Have an urgent question. I have finished editing a project that has been edited from pre-exported videos, but the problem is that i have been notified last minute if it is possible to change parts of it!
Is is possible to change and re-render the pre-exported clips at same length that are affected and then replace the 'source footage' in after effects to have it automatically swap the clips that I've edited and cut up already? As it would take a very messy and extremely long time to manually change all the trimmed parts!
It is only a small section of the source clip I need to change, but the overall composition edits are fine so I don't really need to touch that, it's just really to replace the footage but have everything to stay the exact same.
    Please advise!
Appreciate this if anyone can! fairly urgent
    Thanks

Yes, just right-click on a source in the Project bin and choose Replace Footage.

  • Urgent Question about System Center Server Names and Dashes

Hey guys I have a quick Urgent question that would be awesome if it happens to get answered quickly :).
So in the past we had problems with different server names in components of System Center when setting up different servers.... I never myself saw the errors or what it did, but an absentee colleague did. For example is anything wrong with a name setup like
xx-scom-01 / xx-scom-02  as compared to the standard scom01 scom02? We have a certain naming convention we are moving to and I wanted to see if this was fixed. I wanted to say it had something to do with the hyphens... anyways any foresight anyone can
    provide would be awesome. Thanks!

Dashes in the name will work fine.

after upgrading to NX-OS 5.04, out snmp traps monitoring system is not generating ticket / incident for the snmp traps and my question is whether we need to apply new MIBS for that?

Looking at the error message "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection" , It appears hostname and port may be incorrect. Review the targets.xml under E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\SAP_solman_SDB\emd and
emoms.properties under E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\SAP_solman_SDB\config folder to make sure host ( sap_solman) and port (1527) are correct.
As far as setting the environment variables goes, you can go to control panel -> system -> advanced -> environment variables and set the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID

  • Wireless Client PING-Based monitor system question

    Hi:
I joined this forums because i need to recopilate info about a monitor system.
So, i have a relative big wireless network and due to legal instances I MUST use a ping-based monitor system to see the status of my network devices and the final clients on wireless station.
We developed a php linux-based system to make pings every 5 minutes to see if there is a host UP or DOWN. Everything works fine, the server is making the pings to the clients and MRTG generates graphic statistics.
    Reference image -> http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/9125/pingred0xq.jpg
The problem is now I have received a notification to make a change on this system to send the pings FROM the clients TO the server and generate statistics.
Is there any difference between making pings from the Client side to the server and viceversa? Does round-trip time is different maybe?
What are the technicals issues on this system?
I accept every critic, advice, suggestion, information, etc.
    PS: Sorry my poor english

That's interesting. It sounds as if you may have a good reason for implementing this, but it would also seem to be an inefficient monitoring scheme. A polling interval of 5 minutes does not give that much granularity for statistics even if you are able to make it work from the client side. Also, you would need to centrally collect the statistics in some way. If it were me I would stick to a centrally based monitoring system. I make heavy use of the syslog capabiliy on Cisco access points since they log just about everything. You can even have a syslog monitoring system page you for something as small as dropped wireless connection if you want to go that far.
Sorry if that's not much help, but I would definately have some people look at the big picture before implementing the proposed solution.
    Good luck with it.
    R Duke
