PVCS Version Manager support

I have seen that Oracle JDeveloper 10.1.3 now supports Serena Dimensions for versioning. What about Serena PVCS Version Manager 8.1? Are there any plans to integrate JDeveloper with the PVCS Version Manager?

Hello
Are you referring to Dimensions from Senera? Believe this use to be called PVCS. We are currently adding support to JDeveloper for Dimensions. We will be using Dimensions 9.0. The JDeveloper extension will be for release 10.1.3 and made available sometime after the production release of 10.1.3.

    Hi all,
Ward - Brian is absolutely right. As I said in my first posting on this topic (above), we have
not yet developed an extension for JDeveloper to enable users to work with PVCS Version
Manager, which I believe is a specific product, rather than an interface.
This is why I'd greatly appreciate it if you could possibly provide more details of this Interface
and indeed what Oracle support for PVCS with JDeveloper Merant referred to. Please see my
first posting above for more details.
Brian - I'm sorry you do not agree with our approach of using the open published SCM Framework
to build your own extensions for using JDeveloper with other source code control tools than those
    we support.
In an ideal world, we would have been able to offer support for every source code control tool on
the market with our first release of 9i JDeveloper. We were very keen to be able to achieve this and
we still plan and are currently looking into supporting more tools going forward and as many tools as
    possible in the long term.
Unfortunately, we only have limited time available for each release and based on the feedback we
received, after our committment to support Oracle9i SCM, CVS and ClearCase were the most requested.
Therefore, we tried to reach a compromise to enable users to provide their own support for a specific
tool should they wish, if they did not use any of those tools supported. Indeed, our research suggests
that the market for source code control tools is quite fragmented and that customers use a wide range
ot tools. So, we decided to publish our own SCM Framework, the same one we used for the SCM, CVS
and ClearCase support, in order to help users build their own extensions in a similar way to ours.
    Hope this helps,

  • PVCS Version Manager Interface to Jdeveloper -- need help with install

Several of our developers are using Jdeveloper and we need to know how to install the PVCS Version Manager interface to JDeveloper.
I have already contacted Merant, the vendor for PVCS Version Manager and they could only confirm that the interface existed but was supported by Oracle.
I have not been able to find any documentation on installing this interface.
Can anyone supply directions or point me to someplace to look for them.
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

  • Question about Starting Eclipse with PVCS Version Manager Plugin and Flash Builder 4 plugin

I used Eclipse 3.4.2 SR2 with PVCS Version Manager plugin.
I installed Adobe Flash Builder 4 Plugin to the Eclipse.
Eclipse executed successfully at first time.
After I open *.mxml file with the Eclipse and close.
    After minutes, I execute Eclipse.
But I waited 40 minutes to see Eclipse Editor screen.
Are there any problem in Adobe Flash Builder 4 Plugin?
====== If you know Korean Character, You can see below message, I hope so ========
    Environment
    * OS: Windows XP SP3
    * Eclipse: 3.4.2 SR2
    * JDK: 1.5.0
    * Serena PVCS Version Manager : 8.3.0
    * Adobe Flash Builder 4 Plugin
    Thank's

I experimented with the latest Zend Studio 8 trials on both platforms yesterday, and it looks a little different depending on which platform you're using:
On OS X, because Zend Studio is now contained entirely within the app bundle, it's tricky navigating to the proper eclipse folder with our Plug-in Utility. As it turns out, the Zend dropins folder does exist if you look down low enough:
    /Applications/Zend Studio.app/Contents/Resources/Java/dropins
When I typed that path into the Burrito Plug-in Utility manually, it found the dropins folder, and proceeded to install the link without complaint. However, the Zend dropins folder is not working properly on OS X either, as already found on Win, so it's not using the link.
On Win, Zend Studio 8 doesn't include the dropins folder in the first place, as noted earlier. Apparently, Zend doesn't have its dropins folder enabled on either Mac or Win.
To see if this problem is specific to dropin links, I downloaded the latest Orbit plugins from eclipse.org and tried adding those directly to the Zend dropins folder, instead of using a link. Zend doesn’t appear to recognize them either.
I'll check with our contact at Zend to see what happened.

  • Jdev support with PVCS Version control system

    Hi,
Is there any JDev plugin available for PVCS source control system.
We have to use PVCS version control system for our SOA composites. If there is no plugin available, what is the approach commonly used for these scenarios.
    Thanks for your response.

Which JDev version do you use?
AFAIK there is no extension for PVCS available for 11g (check http://www.oracle.com/ocom/groups/public/@otn/documents/webcontent/131167.xml).
Anyway if you have an external tool which lets you work with PVCS you can use it outside of jdev without a problem. Depending on the interface you might be able to do some kind of integration into jdev using the 'External Tools...' interface.

  • Can JWS be used as a multiple Java version management tool?

WinNT4 WKS with JRE 1.3.1 - 1.4.2 loaded on it using IExplorer or Netscape.
We don't have a need for the JWS download features because our clients (and their applications) remain static for the most part. However, we do require multiple JRE version support because our customers have written class/objet "fixes" (mostly for text rendering) and these fixes break if you try and run the application on a different version of Java from which it was written. Basically, we can't have a default JRE on each machine and hope that it will work with all customer applications. So we will load all necessary Java components on our workstations (in this case JRE versions 1.3.1 - 1.4.2). I know that browsers can be forced to load with a specific Plug-in version (providing it exists on the machine) through Object & Embed tags in the HTML and that standalone apps can be directed to the correct Java directory path. My question is, can JWS automatically identify the Java requirements of our customers applications and act simply as a multi-version management tool to provide the right JRE/Plug-In for either standalone or browser applications? Keeping in mind that all the JREs will be loaded on the workstions and it won't need to download any components from some site.
I've noticed that JWS identifies all JREs loaded on a machine in the Java tab so I'm wondering if it can "switch" the environment as needed for each application.
Does anyone know if I can use JWS in the scenario I described above? Thanks!

JWS can manage the multiple JREs installed if you run the application through a .jnlp. This can not "switch" the default JRE. It runs the application specified in the .jnlp using the requested version specified in the .jnlp.
JWS does not apply to applets. You should use the object tags as you mentioned below.
...can JWS automatically identify the Java requirements of our customers applications
No. You must determine this and setup the .jnlp appropriately.

  • Project Difference in Labview with Serena Version Manager

We are using Serena ChangeMan Version Manager (integrated) with LabVIEW. And I was wondering if there was anyways for us to do a "Project Difference" in the LabVIEW. We need the ability to do a difference between what is in the Version Manager database and what is in the working directories. This is the most effective way to tell what changes have been made. Without this management of the software baseline will become difficult and time consuming. This is also very useful during the new development stage. There are often occasion when people have forgotten to check files in. Which cause a problem when attempting to build testers from the version manager baseline. This is easily avoided if the developer can do a difference of the development area to the version manager repository. VSS provide this feature and highlights the following in different colors: differences indicating if a file is in the repository but different from the local file, if the file is checkout, if the file does not exist in the repository or if the file exist in the repository but does not exist locally.

    Harsh324,
So once you have Serena configured in LabVIEW are you able to right-click in the project and select Show Differences?  As mentioned in this tutorial the Graphical Differencing feature is only officially supported by Visual Source Safe and Perforce, however you may be able to get some information from this.  I am not familiar with Serena, so it could be possible that it has something similar built in as well.
Please let me know if you get any results by selecting the option from the project.  Thanks!

You have been "bagged" by SAP Security's cross site scripting filter. No way around it (for obvious reasons). Somewhere in your post there is something that is interpreted as an xxs attack. Unfortunately, happens a lot when trying to post code or code terms. Some people have managed to work around this using some of the same tricks used by people wanting to post forbidden words and phrases like

and the like. Try some experimenting and you might succeed.

  • Basic Version Management

I would like to see basic version management functionality built into LR. This would allow the user to not only create different versions of an image, but keep track of their relationships and status.
As a fine art nature photographer, I might have an original RAW file, a PSD master file, a series of TIFFs optimized for various print sizes, a JPEG for my web gallery, and maybe a different JPEG for slideshows. I can stack these together, but LR doesn't allow me to relate them as different versions of the same image or keep track of their status (maybe the TIFF for a 16x20 print needs more work, but the 11x14 is done).
Ideally, the Version Management would allow the user to set up a list of version types and statuses. Image versions could be moved from one status to another manually or automatically based on rules. An interactive chart could display the version relationships and allow the user to change statuses quickly.
Different versioning templates would be needed for different types of workflow. One might be used in the above example of a landscape photo that has multiple output types and sizes. A different template would be needed for a panorama built from multiple original images but going to the similar types of output.
Full-featured version management might be best left to a 3rd party module, but the versioning and status information would have to be kept in the LR database.
    Brent Gilstrap

    Jeff,
First may I say, "Thank You" for the excellent LR video tutorial you did with Michael Reichmann. That got me up and running much faster than I expected!
And thank you for taking the time to reply to my request. Getting back to version management, I must disagree with you that this is a simply an old vs. new workflow issue. This is about letting me work around the limitations of LR.
I don't know about you, but I sharpen somewhat differently for different size prints and for different papers. I also print colored borders on many of my prints - the width of the border varies with the print size (and is well beyond the 20pt maximum stroke border in LR). Also, as I use the ImagePrint RIP and often wish to print borderless on roll paper - at times I must go outside the LR print module to get the print output I want (LR + PTAPP does not support borderless on roll paper yet).
I can't imagine that LR will ever be feature-rich or smart enough to support everything I want from within the Develop and Print Modules. Ok, I CAN imagine it, but I'm not expecting mass-marketed software to meet all of my needs. Once LR has expert sharpening & noise reduction, soft proofing, more flexible print borders, etc... I'll re-evaluate the situation.
For now and the foreseeable future, I will need multiple physical files for print output. I can stack these to group them with the original RAW file - but LR would be so much more useful to me if it could also keep track of the use and status of these different files.
Based on your reply... I'm thinking I'm going to have to develop a Version Management module for LR myself. If only LR had scripting. Doh!

  • Technical upgrade - version management ?

    Hi All,
I got a doubt in technical upgrade. My situation is technical upgrade from
    3.1h to Ecc6.
I have been provided a list of standard programs generated by SPAU
after reset to original is made.
Since i dont have modification assistance i need to correct using version management only.
For programs i can use version management to compare old and new version and add the missing codes.
Whereas for list of things below how to compare and make the neccessary corrections.
    Documentation, Screen, Messages,Report Texts,
    Packages,Definition of a Maintenance and Transport Object,Transactions.
Expecting some solution from you all.
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Kamesh

    Hi Kamesh,
There will be no versions available for these objects.
U have to compare all these with the old system manually.
    1) Messages: check for the attributes ,any changes in attributes of messages.
    2) Screens: this is a tedious job, u have to compare the source code also here,u can compare the two screens in se51.Here u have to check for any changes in the earlier version by customer which is not present in ECC 6.
    3) Transaction : In se93 in both systems check them manually, GUI support should be enabled in ECC 6
    4) Documntation : if it is a function module documentation check for documnetation in se37 for that particular FM in both the systems. Likewise check for all other objects.
5)BADIs have a different method of SPAU adjustment, this does not show any versions too..

  • Version management in BSP

    Hi All,
I have done modifications to a standard BSP application HCM_LEARNING. We have upgraded the support pack from SP7 to SP13 for backend ECC 5.0. How do I check whether there are any changes done to the standard BSP application upon upgradation. One option is to try using 'Version Management' where I check all the pages for any changes, but this is too tedious. Is there any shorter approach than this. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi,
It is in general not a good idea to alter standard SAP applications. It'll generate SPAU when you implement an update. That is btw one of the methods to know what is changed. Another one is to download the app and the update app via things mentioned in https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/abap/bsp/finding%20your%20code%20in%20bsp%20applications.article and compare them via external tools.
