PVS 7.x, Citrix UPM, XA 6.5, & AppV 5.0 SP2 HF4 for Stateless Shared Desktop

Note:  I have read and followed this tech net recommendation closely as the basis for my technical design (I have also read many other articles, Citrix recommendations for UPM, Microsoft Performance Guide, etc):
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/25318.app-v-a-configuration-template-for-deploying-to-stateless-rds-clients-on-citrix-published-desktops-with-citrix-upm-for-profile-management.aspx
I have a few questions and I'd be interested in community thought:
1.  In this design they are placing the PackageInstallationRoot on a persistent locally attached drive, which they then have to spend time wiping at every startup.  This can be incredibly time consuming to do all the icalcs commands if the AppV
Package Cache has a lot of apps (~10 minutes for my environment with 6 apps).  Is there a flaw with placing this within Non-Persistent space instead (i.e. RAM Write-Cache with Disk backing in PVS 7.6).  Rationale:
A) It is a much quicker wipe than the linked approach.  PackageInstallationRoot gets completely wiped instantly upon PVS Target reboot.
B) I could place this on my persistent volume and do the lengthy cleanup on startup, but this is the same SAN-attached persistent volume that PVS Ram Cache with Disk Overflow uses so I am not sure I see the benefit.  Perhaps there is a bit more overhead
to run to PackageInstallationRoot through PVS WriteCache overhead instead of direct filesystem call to SAN Volume, but that is the only thing I can think of.
2.  Direction talks about the exclusion to AppData\Microsoft\AppV, but for environments that use Folder Redirection for AppData I don't believe this is possible?  I'm guessing they are using UPM for AppData and LocalAppData.  I have implemented
all other exclusions (LocalAppData, HKCU Registry, etc) except for AppData and don't see any problems.
3.  Author states apps are available for users immediately, but there has to be overhead for the very first user for each app after every reboot in order to re-populate PackageInstallationRoot and Re-Publish the app.  The only way I can think to
reduce this burden a bit would be to either A) Cache (Add-AppV) application into the master image (not ideal for us), or B) have a script that caches (Add-AppV) application whenever a PVS Target boots.  This would just leave the user having to publish,
which appears to be quicker based on my testing.
Thanks

I would not recommend this and keep the package cache and the client on the same non-persistent drive and enable the Shared Content Store. If you separate the cache and the App-V client they could get out of sync and strange behaviour can occur.
You can use a temporary local profile with Citrix UPM or UE-V and specify what to roam/save.
You can use the Shared Content Store so packages will stream over the network. When the user logs on there is a publishing phase where shortcuts etc are created for the user, this will take some time.
Are you using the App-V full infrastructure?
Are you using a boot disk, partition or PXE in combination with PVS?

  • SAP BPC 7.5 SP3 and Citrix Entering Data through BPC Client and Citrix

    Hello BPC experts,
my client is using SAP BPC 7.5 SP3 in combination with Citrix. We are having problems now, while entering data through the BPC Client (installed on BPC Server) and the BPC Client (running on Citrix).
When we enter data through the BPC Client (Server) and expand the sheet, we can only see the data that we entered through the BPC client (Server). When entering data through the BPC Client (Citrix), we can see only the data we enter through the BPC Client (Citrix).
The database, however, saves both entries correctly. For test purposes we created a test report which shows both entries correctly in the BPC Client on the server and on Citrix.
Does anyone have an idea what can be wrong with our system? We tried to create an EvDRE log File for this BPC version as well, but failed. Maybe one of you already did that and can help me with this.
    Thanks in advance!

You can greatly improve your chance of receiving a helpful answer to your question if you state the version (MS or NW) of BPC which you are using.

  • Keyboard no longer working when using Citrix Receiver and OSX10.9.5

I use Citrix Receiver and an iMac to connect to my work desktop from home. I have the latest release of Citrix Receiver. This morning I upgraded to OSX 10.9.5 and, after the update, my keyboard was not recognised when using Citrix Receiver. It works fine otherwise. Yesterday I had no problems. Is there something in the new OSX upgrade which interferes with Citrix Receiver? Does anybody know what I need to do to get it working again?

I had the same problem and found the solution on another discussion board.  You just go to the dock and click on Finder, then click back in the Citrix window and the keyboard works again.  At least for me.

  • Citrix Viewer Error in Yosemite but not Mavericks

I connect to a corporate system through the web. The Citrix server is old and they will not make any updates to help. Currently, the method of connecting is through a website link that is an .ica file. In Safari, of course, it just opens a browser tab with text, but we learned a few years back that one could copy that text into a blank text document, save it as a .ica file, and open it with Citrix Receiver 11.8.2 for Mac and it would open correctly.
Up until today, I can use that .ica file to connect to the corporate server via Citrix UNDER MAVERICKS, Citrix Receiver 11.8.2
But on Mac Pros running Yosemite, trying to open the same .ica file results in the error: "Connection to the server "blahblahblah\" was interrupted. Please check your network connection and try again."
And console, sometimes, shows the following error: "Citrix Viewer void ncsConnecting(char *) connecting to serverName=BLAHBLAHBLAH"
This error occurs under Yosemite both under Citrix Receiver 11.8.2 (the old one, not made for Yosemite) and the Yosemite specific Citrix Receiver 11.9.
I've tried all the standard, restarting, uninstalling and re-installing citrix multiple times, etc. Again, the problem seems specific to Yosemite, since I don't have the problem on Mavericks, no matter what equipment we're talking about.
    Any ideas?

  • Excel in Citrix environment

    Hi All,
Does someone has experience with Excel 2013 in a Citrix environment? To be more specific, we must be able to save files as a char-s-v file. I did not say as .csv file because we must be able to use the pipe character "|" as delimiter. (Historical
    reasons)
AFAIK, this is not possible with Excel, therefore I've written an add-in that can be installed - let's say - on each physical CPU.
I could install it also in the Citrix environment but don't know how to go further for the colleagues. Does everyone has to install the add-in or is there a better way and use some kind of "global" installation of the add-in?
Will the use of the add-in by user A interfere the usage for user B?
Or is this not a good idea at all?
Any feedback is very appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Jan Karel,
Thanks, very helpful tip. In meantime I was able to experiment a bit and has faced another issue.
The add-in is creating a .INI file at first installation to hold the user's preferred settings. The historical reason to use an INI file is that each update was overwriting the preferred settings, replacing  them by mine. Some users prefer the international
numberformat while others keep the Belgium format but the add-in has the option to easily switch between both formats. To respect this, I opt for an INI file because I'm not sure that everyone has the rights to change the registry (I mean by VBA; maybe, I'm
wrong in this) and during the load of a new version it is checking if the INI exists or not. If not, force the user to define the settings or skip this part.So everyone has to use "my" preferred settings or do you have the magic way to create a personalized
    INI?
We have all a personal folder in the Citrix environment but want to keep it as general as possible and do not see directly how to detect the environment.
BTW, you can find the add-in here:

  • Printing from Citrix ICA Client

Have recently been attempting to connect my husband's medical office to the local hospital through Citrix,(MetaFrameXP). We are a MacOS network running 10.4 on 6 iMac G5s.In addition we are putting this on his MacBookPro running 10.4.8. Citrix ICA Client7.00.407 has been downloaded, redownloaded, installed, uninstalled, reinstalled multiple times on two different workstations. We are finally connected-kudos to Apple support forum suggesting using Firefox. It has been very problematic with no support from the hospital whose liason people have reiterated that they don't support Macs-an understatement. Citrix web site is not much help and their forum for Macs seem to indicate that Citrix isn't responsive to Mac users either. Though we are finally connected, we are unable to print to our HP1320tn. We get a print window with "default printer" in the pull down as the only option. Click it-nothing. Noplace to go to change any print driver options- something that might be corrected on the server at the hospital but from posts to the forum, it looks as though admin guys are having a problem with the fix at their end to. From Citrix forum, this seems to have become more of a problem since their ClientICA upgrade to version 7-our only option. Several posted that they were able to print by going back to version 6 of Client. Great if you've been a user but Citrix advised today by phone that it's not available if it's not on the web-they do not make available older versions. Explained situation to hospital rep and asked to speak to IT guy. He did not want to let me talk to him-says Mac use is a "touchy" subject with the IT department. I'll be pushing that issue further but I'm not certain that they'll be able to help anyway. Does anyone have any ideas or alternately access to ICAClient6 MacOsX that we could get to? I'm definitely feeling like a Star-Bellied Sneetch with stars upon thars. DEW

    Thank you Stress Test.
But I was looking further using the new Citrix name you mentioned and found now this updated Citrix file. It is a file from August 27th. So I will try that one first.

  • Oracle VM and Citrix

    Hello
is there somewhere an official position from Oracle regarding the fact that Xen is nos a Citrix product. That was not tha case at Oracle VM realease time, I guess it sould change some things in the future. On should really be worried, taking in account that Citrix is clearly in Microsoft "wallet of future potential aquisitions".
Thanx for any relevant link that's not only marketing ...

Oracle VM is based on the Open Source Xen project. Do not confuse this with the commercial Citrix/Xensource Enterprise server product. See the following link for Oracle's statement on Open Source Xen at the Availability and Pricing section:
    http://www.oracle.com/corporate/press/2007_nov/ovm-ga-111107.html
And the following link on the Xen Open Source project:
    http://xen.org/about/
    Specifically the statement:
The Xen project, led by Ian Pratt of Citrix Systems, Inc. is entirely independent of any commercial activity on the part of any vendor that collaborates in the open source project. It is run according to the established open source development process, and benefits from a diverse community of contributors and maintainers solely on the basis of technical merit. At xen.org, code rules.
The only main issue would be the Xen trademark name. See this:
    http://blog.xen.org/index.php/2008/04/01/xenorg-trademark-policy-for-review/
The nature of open source would allow the use of the Xen technology with numerous commercial vendors regardless of any acquisitions of Xensource - ie like what happened when citrix acquired Xensource. Although, IANAL.

  • Supervisor Desktop and Citrix

    Hello,
Does anyone know if Supervisor Desktop for UCCX 7.0 will run in a Citrix environment? I know that the earlier versions did not and was hoping that they changed that in the newer versions.
    Thank you!

    Hi Aaron,
    Regarding Citrix support.
The Cisco Unified Contact Center Express (Cisco Unified CCX) Software and Hardware Compatibility Guide. Last Updated: March 3, 2011
Refers to the document below which discusses limitations for the Supervisor Desktop (Monitoring & Recording). It doesn't state it isn't supported?
Integrating CAD with Thin Client and Virtual Desktop Environments January 2011
Do you have any other docs that show the support of CSD?
    (I'm using UCCX 8.5, not 7.0)
    Many thanks,
    Michael

  • Citrix Worx Home Mail not working on k920 (Vibe z2 pro)

    Hi,
I am experiencing some issues with the Citrix Worx Home app, which my (big international) company uses for accessing business e-mail from mobile phones.
As soon as I try to launch the Worx Mail app, it shows the error message "This device does not support encryption features required by the application" and quits immediatelly.
I already sent the bug report to the Citrix guys, but, there is a possibility this can not be resolved by them.
    Anyone has a simillar experience?

Hello, I just purchased my Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro. After charging it for 8 hours, I switched on the phone and there's an automatic firmware upadate to Lollipop. After the update, the phone is unable to restart. I cannot even access the factory reset/recovery mode. I sent it to the service centre and now they said they need to replace the board. What does it mean? Thank you.

  • Server Updates presented to users via Citrix Application?

    Hi, i just
First i am not a citrix guy. but i noticed that if our Citrix server has pending software updates, and if a
user is running a Citrix Application hosted on that Citirx server from their desktop, that the user on their desktop is actually presented with the software updates shield. The updates are not for their workstation, but are for the Citrix box.
One user ran them and rebooted the server thinking it was for their workstation.
Is there any way to hide the software update shield from the user running the Citrix Application?<o:p></o:p>

How can updates for Server appear on user's Desktop?
It's absurd that user has the right to install software updates for the server & make the server reboot. There's a flaw in access rights there it seems.

  • Connect Pro and Citrix

Does Connect Pro work in a Citrix environment using neo stations?

Hi snikhil123. Thanks for the response.
We are using PGi (who, to be honest, we have had a lot of problems with). Can you let me know which integrated audio providers support that Lecture mode function please?
Noted on the workaround, but that is a but clunky if participants keep joining for the first 5-10 minutes of a session. We need to keep pausing, muting everyone, unmuting ourselves and continuing. It is indeed a workaround but it would be nice to smooth that process out a bit.
If you can let me know which integrated audio providers support Lecture mode, that would be terrific.
    Thanks,
