Px12-350r unable to re-join domain - what to do now?

Hello everyone!
I hope you can give me some advice because at the moment I am in a really stupid situation, being probably locked out of my Iomega px12-350r.
Here's what happened:
 * The device has been successfully joined to my Microsoft AD domain and has been running with this config for at least a year.
* I expanded the storage array 2 days ago, adding 2 disks. Everything went fine and when the expansion completed, the new total disk space was displayed correctly in the admin web interface.
* After that, I rebooted the device. After the reboot, I could not log in to the device any more using my domain account. This account has had admin rights on the NAS and I have logged into the NAS using this account before.
* I did not change anything in the domain infrastructure.
* I know that the device cannot join the domain anymore because I activated email notifications and it keeps sending me "Unable to join domain".
I already tried:
* Login using the usual local accounts: Does not seem to work once the device is joined to a domain.
* Login via SSH. Does not work, probably for the same reason as above.
I did NOT try yet:
* The user manual mentions resetting the admin password by pushing the reset button on the back. But will this only reset config (I would be ok with that) or will it erase the data on the drives as well?
I am from Germany. Despite having purchased a 24x7 service plan, German support hotline will only redirect me to the American hotline who claim to do only desktop NAS, no px12's. I am kind of in the middle of nowhere now. ;-)
Thanks for your help!
Best Regards,
Florian

Hi qaware,
Just to clarify, are you talking about logging into the device's web interface or logging into your active directory client?
I would first recommend rebooting everything and restarting your client in case there are more than one sessions open.
What credentials are you using to log into SSH? User should be "root" and password is "soho + admin password". Make sure you are not using any special characters.
You could do a reset from the back of the device. This is not data destructive, but it will reset user and network settings so you will have to set the device up again, rejoin the domain and import the AD users and groups.
Are there any other admin users you could try logging in under?

  • Unable to re-join domain

    Hi,
I have installed Windows Server 2012 r2 Essentials and successfully connected 5 computers Windows 8.1 Pro to my domain (Test). After that, i removed one of the computer (Test5) from the domain using Essentials Dashboard under Devices --> Remove computer.
At the same time, i also disconnected from the client computer (Test5) using the system properties by clicking "Network ID" and following the wizard.
After disconnecting from the domain, i wanted to rejoin the same computer (Test5) to the same domain (Test), but i came across many problems.
I normally join the computers to the domain by going to url xxx/connect to download and install. After that the installer asks me for the username and password. By now, the wizard will display " Cannot connect this computer to the network. The server
is not available. Try connecting this computer again, or for more information, see Troubleshoot connecting computers to the server"
After that, the full name of computer changed to Test5.Test.local but it is still part of the Workgroup.
I tried to reintall Windows 8.1 Pro and changed the name to Test6, tried the connector again but the wizard would display the same problem again.
I tried to reset the computer in the AD under Server Tools, but the computer is not there anymore, tried to change the domain to Workgroup again in Test6, still useless.
And i dont think there is any problem with DNS. I can ping the server with no problem from Test5/Test6, and the network settings seem correct. The DNS Server is setup to one for the server (192.168.11.190), another one to the main router (192.168.11.1).
Can someone offer advice on how to troubleshoot this issue? Greatly appreciate your help. If possible, please explain in layman terms, i'm do not have any experience in server management. this is my first server.
    thanks!

Yes, i uninstalled the connector from the installed windows update, restarted the client computer (Test6). Tried the manually joining the PC to the domain through both the wizard in the system properties by clicking "Network ID" or "Change".
After putting all the credentials and domain information, both methods result in the same error
"Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following error has occurred: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted"
Well, i can ping the server without any problems from the problematic computer (Test6). So what is the problem? I think it is the server side that is causing the problems, maybe i need to reset something or delete something. After all, i reinstalled windows
8.1 Pro on Test6, but still cannot re-join the domain!
    Please help!

  • Apply network settings join domain issues

I create a default task sequence in CM 2012 R2. On the apply network settings there is the option to join the domain. If I select to join to the domain, there is an account to set.  I set the account and test the account (test button right there) and
    the test to ad succeeds.
I then apply and close the task sequence.  if you go back into the task sequence, and check the account to join domain, the password is now much longer than the original (only dots shown of course) and if I click test, the test FAILS.
I am not sure if that is the expected behavior or the root of my issue.
My issue is my machines are failing to join the domain.  Under Windows\Pather\UnattendGC, I see a log file with the error, failed to join domain, error code 5 (something like that).  When I look up that error, I see it means access denied.
    Any ideas?

The task sequence will never show the correct length of the password for security reasons, so that's the expected behavior.
Could you share what permissions you've given that account?
These are the permissions that I use:
Scope: This Object and all descendant objects
    - Create Computer Objects
    - Delete Computer Objects
    Scope: Descendant Computer Objects
    - Read All Properties
    - Write All Properties
    - Read Permissions
    - Modify Permissions
    - Change Password
    - Reset Password
    - Validated write to DNS host name
    - Validated write to services principal name
This will work for every kind of deployment scenario that you may have to use the account in.

  • Could not provision the RemoteApp collection. Error: Could not join the domain. Unable to reach the domain.

    Hi
I am trying to set up an Azure RemoteApp Hybrid solution.
I have created RemoteApp net and uploaded a custom image and all that is fine.
When I link my template to my Collection it fails after provisioning for about an hour.
I recive the following message: Could not provision the RemoteApp collection. Error: Could not join the domain. Unable to reach the domain.
The join domin works fine and I have tryed with account with different lvl of access to my AD.
Any suggestion how to solve this?

    Hello Eric,
I am landing into the same Problem and i read your guidance on this issue. Let me answer it point by point.
    1. Check the VPN state to ensure it is active or connected state:
Sundesh:My Azure RemoteApp Virtual Network after successfull S2S configuration shows as Ready. Is that what you mean by Connected State? Earlier to S2S, it was just under connecting state.
    2. Verify your VNET configurations have proper IP address ranges
Sundesh: The VNET address range, the Local address range and DNS has already been verified twice. In fact the same address ranges(with exception to VNET) are working fine on a VENT config on Azure VM instance. Verified.
    3. Verify your DNS IP configurations are valid, (often this is the problem)
Sundesh: Yes its done and verified
    4. Verify the credentials entered for domain join are valid.
Sundesh: Tested these credentials by joining a regular Azure VM to domain and it works there.
    5. Make sure your VPN endpoint that Azure RemoteApp service is connecting to is not blocking traffic.
Sundesh: Can you please let us know the specific port numbers that we need to consider and i can have it checked with the Network team
    Thanks

  • Join to Windows domain, what is benefits ?

    Hi there,
I know it's strange question but can you answer it?
If I make my Mac joined a Windows domain what is benefits I get as a system administrator? Is Windows server policy deployed on Mac (Password policy and so on)?
Also if a network user (from Windows server) log in to Mac except home folder what I get?
    Thanks for help

If I make my Mac joined a Windows domain what is benefits I get as a system administrator? Is Windows server policy deployed on Mac (Password policy and so on)?
You're right - if you authenticate against the Windows domain, then all the Windows policies are in effect - expiration, password restrictions, auditing, etc.
Also if a network user (from Windows server) log in to Mac except home folder what I get?
I'm not sure what you mean by this.

  • What Will I Miss The Most Not Joining Domain

Friend of my has a company where some of the machines are not joined to the domain and users just login with local account. I asked why and they provided two reasons:(a) Some take their machines home so it's easier to just have one login. I pointed out, if they are not connected to VPN, could they not just login via: .\username instead or {domain name}\username ? Why is that so hard?(b) These machines are Windows 8 standard. How hard to upgrade to Win 8 Pro?It seems to me that the biggest drawback of not being joined to the domain is lack of access to network resources (folders) that have user/group security? But then I see you can view the network and login to network shares without using a machine joined to the domain. What are the other big advantages of having the workstation domain joined? Ability to enforce group machine policies?...

  • Satellite P100: XP Pro Media Centre - unable to join domain

Recently bought a P100 with XP Pro OS but I don't to be able to join the domain at work properly. Normally create a new account on the Server SBS 2003 then from the PC 'join domain'.
    Any clues?
    Peter

Thanks for that but I do find it difficult to see where the logic comes from. It is fairly safe to say that XP Media Centre should work OK as I understand it to be a complete version/implementation of XP Pro with a few whistles and bells on the AV front? XP Pro certainly allows a domain to be specified so why doesn't XP Media Centre?

  • Unable to unjoin a domain

    Hello,
we are unable to log on to a reinstalled network machine.
when we try to log on we get the following error.
Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found. Please try again later. If this message continues to appear, contact your system administrator
    for assistance.
let met paint the picture: a defective machine was reinstalled with a sysprep, after doing so we wanted to rejoin the domain wich we were able to do. after joining the domain we found our machine in active directory and Altiris.
But when the user wanted to log into the network he was unable to do so (look above warning mentioned)
i tried to unjoin the domain but with the local admin account i am unable to unjoin the domain.
    Access denied????
We are using win xp machines and 2003 servers
can anyone advise on how to use the machine again in the domain?
At this point we are close to reinstall the machine harddrive again and try again. But it must be more simpler way to solve this problem?

  • MDT TS not joining domain

    Hi,
I'm experiencing something weird. my MDT 2010 U1 TS doesn't join HP Compaq 6200 & ProBook 6460b to the domain when I deploy Win 7 x64. It works for x86.

And Why the netsetup.log file see WORKGROUP instead of the domain ?

    Hi,
Have been struggling with this is issue for months! Have only just this minute got it to work. Thought I would share how I got it to work, just in case other people may find it helpful.
We here use SCCM 2012 R2, and deploy images using SCCM Task Sequences. For months now we have not been able to get our HP Probook 6560b's to finish installing and join to the domain. The task sequence would finish and show a Windows 7 login screen for a
    local account.
Having tried a matter of many different ways it has worked using the driver, as mentioned above by Olivierdsm2 and MattGrimley.
First I downloaded the HP Driver pack for the Probook 6560b. I made them all into folders corresponding to Driver Category, Audio, Chipset, Network. Making sure any EXE's are unzipped to show raw INF form if applicable. I then made sure the Network driver
was removed and replaced with the one mentioned by Olivierdsm2 and MattGrimley. The Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection v11.15.16.0.
I created a new Virtual Machine on our Hyper-V server, with a clean Windows 7 image. I installed all software required for the image such as Office 2010, and then completed Windows updates. I then used Sysprep to generalize the image and make it OOBE. I
added the WinPE iso to the CD Tray in Hyper-V and as the VM shut down it booted into WinPE. I then used DiskPart to list the volumes, just so I could see which Drive letter corresponds to each partition, as I will need these details for next command lines.
I then exited Diskpart and entered into Image X to capture the WIM. I captured the WIM to local drive and then copied over to my computer where I used DISM to mount the WIM and then to apply the HP drivers from the folder location mentioned above. Making
sure to use the Recurse switch so it adds drivers from within the folders. It imported successfully and then commited the changes so the WIM was unmounted.
I then copied the WIM to my SCCM server and imported it to the Operating System Images section. making sure I distributed the content. I added the WIM to my Task Sequence and named it so it was specific to the Probook 6560b. I changed the task sequence by
deleting auto install or apply drivers, as these are now in the image itself. So I will only install this task sequence to Probook 6560b's.
Having done all the steps I then made the task sequence available to PXE and Media and ran the installation on the Probook laptop, and it actually FAILED!!
The network driver didn't actually install from DISM. Logged into Laptop and on Device Manager the network driver wasn't installed. I then installed the Network Driver "The Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection v11.15.16.0 " manually from the laptop
and it then installed ok. I followed the same steps above to Sysprep, and capture image with ImageX. Then once I added the image to SCCM and to the task sequence, I ran the installing again to the laptop and IT WORKED!!! The laptop came on, and it was joined
    to the domain!
I did this from Hyper-V as I read that this will create an image that doesn't have too many drivers from the reference image device. I don't know if this still would work capturing straight from the laptop itself, but when I did try this before I logged
in locally to check the driver version and it was always an up to date driver, which must be why it never worked before. I think our drivers and driver packages from SCCM must have the newer drivers as to why this didn't work from there. But I'm just happy
this now works and we can save time not having to do things manually.
Hopefully this may help anyone with similar issue who is in difficulty with this. Would never have got it to work if I hadn't come across this forum entry. Even if it is for MDT. Could not find any other site that helped with this issue.
    thanks,
    Don

  • Windows 8.1 Pro has error while joining domain, while windows 7 pro has no problem to join in the same network

I am having the same issue as posted in http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/6ea57e5f-6e9d-49bd-9dd7-832ea84c0276/windows-81-pro-will-not-join-domain?forum=w8itpronetworking
There are a few other people have the same issues.  However there was no real solution provided although the post was marked as answered.  I am posting it here again and hopefully I can get some help to solve this issue.
We got two new PCs, one with windows 7 and the other with windows 8.1 Pro.  In the same network with domain, the windows 7 pc has no problem at all to join the domain.  However the windows 8.1 Pro won't join the domain. On the windows 8.1 Pro computer,
I can ping the other computers in the network.  The error message says:
An Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for the domain "cmi" could not be contacted. ...
In my case, the domain name is "CMI".  I am sure the DNS setting is correct.  What did I do wrong?  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

I tried the solution in that article.
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters folder, there is no
NeutralizeNT4Emulator.  So I followed the instructions and created one, and set the value to 1. Then I restarted the computer and tried to join the domain again.  I got the same error.  Below is more from the netsetup log file:
    06/04/2014 21:36:37:256 -----------------------------------------------------------------

Note: This information is intended for a network administrator.  If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\Windows\debug\dcdiag.txt.
The domain name "cmi" might be a NetBIOS domain name.  If this is the case, verify that the domain name is properly registered with WINS.
If you are certain that the name is not a NetBIOS domain name, then the following information can help you troubleshoot your DNS configuration.
DNS was successfully queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain "cmi":
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.cmi
The following domain controllers were identified by the query:
    cmi-dc2.cmi
    cmi-dc1.cmi
However no domain controllers could be contacted.

  • Join computer in Domain and how to get Internet access in Joined domain computer

    Dear System Admins,
Actually I am new to this forum and I need help. Let me explain you my scenario. Ours is a small company and I have configured Cisco router with dedicated Public IP. So the private IP default gateway is 192.168.50.254 and DNS is 218.56.43.22 "DNS is
given by ISP". Now what I did is I have configured IP address to server 192.168.50.1/24. Default Gateway IPv4 address 192.168.50.254 DNS 218.56.43.22 on Windows domain server computer. Internet is up on Windows Server. Also I have setup Active directory
successfully. Now I want Windows 7 computer to Join the domain and also it should be able to access to Internet. Let me know how to configure Windows 7 network properties and how to join domain. Please explain me in simple way step by step process. Thank you.

    Dear Arnav,
I have configured DNS as  218.56.43.22 in windows server computer which has given by our ISP and
internet is available in  server. For users who wants top join domain. I have configured IP details are as follows.
    1. Windows 2008 Server IP details
    192.168.50.1
    255.255.255.0
    192.168.50.254
DNS: 218.56.43.22 <--- Given by ISP with Dedicated Public IP
Now comes the Windows 7 computer which has to be join in domain for that how should I have to configure Network properties of Windows 7 computer? let me know. Windows 7 IP details are as fallows:
    IPV4 address 192.168.50.2
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    Default GW   192.168.50.254
What about DNS? What should I configure in DNS box network properties  for Windows 7 user. Shall I enter Windows Server IP details 192.168.50.1 or "DNS 218.56.43.22 <----which is given by ISP" . Let me know further procedure in order
to "Windows 7 user join the domain as well as user should be able to access the Internet. At present I have only installed active directory in  widnows 2008 server. Whats Next? please feel free to ask me. Thank you.

  • MDT 2010 Vista cannot finish after joining domain

    Hi,
I have a problem with deployment process after joining domain. I am deploying Vista using MDT 2010 with LiteTouch.  Everything works fine. However, deployment process stops after joining domain. I suppose that autologon is disabled/don't work after joining domain and all following steps can't be started.
What is wrong with my configuration or Task Sequence?
    Thanks in advance, Jan.

    Hi Jan,
    Thank you for your post.
As you said that the deployment process stopped after joining domain, may I know if there is any error received? If so, please let me know the details.
Meanwhile, I would like to share the following with you:

  • Domain Users are allowed by default to join domain

    Hi everyone !
Recently i install Windows Server 2012 Standard
    Configure Active Directory Domain Services
    Create simple user "test1"
then i go to windows 7 client and join domain with this "test1" user.
and i shocked how is it possible that a simple domain user which is not a part of any domain admin or admin group and can join or rejoin domain successfully.
Help me to get out of this how can i restrict simple domain user to join domain and why it was by default ?

    > then i go to windows 7 client and join domain with this "test1" user.
By default, EVERY user can join up to 10 clients to the domain.
    > and i shocked how is it possible that a simple domain user which is not
Why shocked? What's the issue when users join computers to the domain?
    > Help me to get out of this how can i restrict simple domain user to join
    > domain and why it was by default ?
Create a GPO, link it to the domain, move it up to above "Default Domain
Policy" and configure Computer - Policies - Windows Settings - Security
Settings - Local Settings - User Rights Assignment: Add Workstations to
    the domain.

    under this is o=school.edu
    under this is People, etc.
The directory is a replica of our production dir - and runs on our testmail.school.edu box along with all (or most) of Comms Suite 7. Accounts have addresses like [email protected] I have used testmail.school.edu as the default domain in the configuration steps for each application.
If I add an associatedDomain with the value "school.edu" for o=school.edu (under o=school) in addition to the existing sunPreferredDomain and associatedDomain values which are testmail.school.edu, the error goes away - but IM doesn't work unless I login with a uid like "[email protected]" instead of just "me".
If I do not have an associatedDomain of "school.edu" for o=school.edu (under o=school), I can login with uid me - and everything works - but that error is there.
    Thanks,

    iim_ldap.schema2.domain_config_root = "o=school" ( - should that be o=school.edu,o=school - ?)"o=school" is correct.
What do you have configured for "default.domains" in the Convergence httpbind.conf file (i.e. the one in /opt/sun/comms/iwc/config)?I have:
    default.domains=testmail.school.edu
When you added "associatedDomain: school.edu" to the "dn: o=school.edu,o=school" entry and logged in with "uid" only, you were actually logged in as "[email protected]".
Since you don't have school.edu in the default.domains setting above, IM didn't work.
So in this scenario you would need to set:
    default.domains=testmail.school.edu school.edu
I tried this while having the school.edu as an associtedDomain to: dn: o=school.edu, o=school and while it worked I saw different errors -
