PXE E61 / PXE MOF

Hi, I upgraded my K210 system to W7 and installed a 2nd 500HDD late last year and usually don't pay attention to the Windows Start screen (since I usually put the system is "sleep" mode) but when I rebooted the system a little while ago I noted  a  PXE E61 error message followed by a PXE MOF error message.
I went into BIOS after doing a little research on this problem and changed the system startup options to HDD, CD-ROM Drive and where appropriate, floppy disk as the 1st option, but when I restarted the system the same   PXE E61 -  PXE MOF error messages appeared. The HDD appear to work fine and am not sure what may be causing this problem and would appreciate H-E-L-P!
Thanks,
Bob

  • Satellite Pro L10: PXE-E61 - Media test failure check cable error message

I recently bought an L10 laptop without the hard drive and everytime i try to boot it with a newly installed hard drive i get this message .
PXE-E61 :MEDIA TEST FAILURE CHECK CABLE
    PXE-MOF: EXITING PXE ROM
    OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND.
CAN SOMEONE MAKE SENSE OUT OF THIS AND EXPLAIN IT TO ME AND ALSO HOW CAN I GET RECOVERY SOFTWARE AS I DO NOT HAVE THE TOSHIBA RECOVERY CD BUT I DO HAVE THE CoA STICKER ON LAPTOP.
    IM DESPERATE PLESE HELP

    Hi Nash,
Your problem is quite straightforward and can be summarised as follows.
    1. You bought a notebook without a hard drive and presumably installed a new hard drive.
    2. You then tried to boot the system from the new hard drive.
The problem here is that there is not yet an operating system installed on the hard drive and as a result the BIOS will try to find an operating system in other places, such as your CD drive, your floppy drive (if you have one), and finally a network connection to a local LAN. If none of these are successful you will receive the error message that you reported.
The obvious solution here would be to install an operating system on your hard drive and you can choose either an original Toshiba recovery disc (obtainable from your local Authorised Service Partner) or you can opt to buy an original Microsoft XP disc in which case you will need to download and install the Toshiba utilities and drivers from the Toshiba web site. My preference would be to get a recovery CD from Toshiba since this will install a guaranteed system with all the necessary utilities and drivers.
Your BIOS will normally be set to search for an operating system on your FDD/CD-ROM, then your HDD and finally on a network lan connection. Once you obtain a recovery CD just load it into your CD-ROM and power on your notebook. The system should find it and then start the installation process. Just follow the on-screen instructions and you should have a valid operating system on your hard drive in about 20-30 minutes.
    best of luck,

  • Error message when booting Satellite P series - "Exiting PXE-ROM"

A while ago, I accidentally deleted the active partition to my hard drive. OOps. That is not very nice, because even though I wanted to clean out the drive and start fresh, the laptop would not recognize a hard drive any more. I live in the british virgin islands where we've got lots of rum and sand but no computer parts! So I bought a new hard drive, and it did not solve the problem. Turns out that drive was no good. Bummer. I was recently in California (lots of computer parts there) and had some tech people confirmed the drive was bad and yet another drive was put in. Unfortunately the people there did not have time to fix the laptop before I left. Now I'm pretty certain that the Hard drive is good.
So now I have a good drive, but whenever I try to boot, I get stuck at the following message:
    Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 082)
    Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation
For Realtek RTL8139(X)/8130/810 PCI fast ethernet controller v2.13 (020326)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
    PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM.
NO matter what boot sequence I use (I can get to the setup), I can't get the computer to boot to any CD. I even tried to put a version of Ubuntu on a pen drive to try and boot to that. Nothing Every time I get the same message.
If I remove the hard drive, I get the same message, except it repeats itself every few seconds. With the HD in it only does it once.
    What should I do now?

The PXE-ROM message appears because the notebook tries to boot from the LAN.
We can speculate why the notebook want to boot from the LAN.
Either the other devices like HDD and CD/DVD drive dont function correctly, controllers are not recognized by BIOS or there is a simply wrong booting order.
If you want to boot from the HDD or ODD you can press the F12 immediately after notebook starting and the boot menu should appears. Then you could choose the right boot device.
Anyway, if its not able to choose such device you should access the BIOS and should set the BIOS to the default settings and save these settings!
    Good luck

  • Toshiba L755 is the only one that will not PXE BOOT

I have a few host on my network which it has VMWare 10 installed, successively performed deployment into those machines(Hosts and created VM"s). Now, I do have also a Toshiba L755-S5258 that will not complete the process,  it does not give any
errors. The following is the messages it gives.
Client MAC ADDR: xx xx xx xx xx xx       GUID: XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXX
    Client IP:XXX.XXX.X.XX        MASK:  XXX.XXX.XXX.x                  DHCP IP:   XXX.XXX.X.X

Press F12 for network service boot
Windows Deployment services: PXE boot Aborted.
    PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM
This si the only unit that does not follow through with the deployment
Note that I've deleted other machines that I successively  deployed to from the Known Computers on Active Directory User and Computers, with not good results
Please any one help me decipher this headache

    Hi,
Are your using the WDS for the Windows deploy? A network boot program (NBP) is the first file that is downloaded and executed as part of the network boot process and it controls
the beginning of the boot experience (for example, whether or not the user must press F12 to initiate a network boot). NBPs are specific to both the architecture and firmware of the client. You must accounting the screen press F12 to allow the system boot
from the WDS. The VMware® workstation PXE booting issue please ask your software vendor.

  • Satellite L650 PXE-E63:error while initializing the NIC - Start Up Error

I have a Satellite L650 which is 2 month old.
The motherboard makes a ticking noise (I think that is what is making the noise), and when this noise takes place it causes the computer to be very slow!! It has been this way since I pretty much got it.
Today, the computer made the noise, my itunes music started skipping (it was the only program running) and the computer froze, and told me it couldnt find windows. When I restart my computer it runs the windows 7 startup repair, finds nothing wrong, and restarts the computer. When the computer restarts, the screen stays black for a very long time....then it flashes a blue screen (the flash is so quick I have no idea what it says) and asks if I would like to run the repair again. I select no, start windows normally....and the screen goes black for a very long time, however their is no ticking noise, but it appears nothing is happening.
    If I force a restart, I get an error message saying along the lines of;
For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller... check cable connection
    PXE-E63:error while initializing the NIC
    PXE-MOF:exiting intel PXE ROM
No bootable device-insert boot disk and press eny key
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

    hi,
    > The motherboard makes a ticking noise (I think that is what is making the noise), and when this noise takes place it causes the computer to be very slow!
the hard drive may do a clicking sound and also pxe error message can appear if hdd stop working. You can read it here:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=8
what if you enter bios (f2 on startup) and check if hdd listed there. but anyway, you shouldn't be worry :) your lap is still new and under warranty. So, it will be fixed for free.

  • SCCM 2012 - PXE error

    Hi Experts,
I need some clarity on PXE boot
    1. My PXE point (Secondary Server) has IP subnet with 10.171.X.X and I am trying to build the machine from the next building which is 10.6.X.X series. When I PXE boot I get the below error
PXE-E53 - No Boot Filename received
    PXE-MOF- Exiting Intel Boot Agent
Do I need to enable IP helper on the switch level to PXE boot?
    2. WDS is configured to respond to all client computer and from boot image properties "Deploy from PXE enabled distribution point is enabled" Please help
    Regards, Pratap

    1. Yes. PXE as a protocol is limited to a broadcast/subnet boundary. Enabling IP helpers is the preferred way to direct the PXE broadcasts across subnets.
    2. I don't understand what the issue. Please provide more information, define your issue, and your expectations.

  • PXE error during boot

    K8T Neo board. (MS6702e)
Just set the BIOS to give me a 'normal' instead of quick boot, and noticed that when it gets to
    Intel UNDI PXE 2.0)
    Realtek RTL81105 / 81698 gigabyte Ethernet controller v.1.01
Is displays the MAC address, then pauses for some time (about 30 seconds) displaying DCHP... with a slash "/" rotating
    then pops up with:
PXE.E53 no boot file name recieved
    PXE.MOF exiting PXE ROM
I'm not entirely sure what this means, or if anything is incorrectly loaded / installed. Everything 'appears' to work OK - my only complaint is the length of time is takes to boot - mainly due to the pause at this point

Check your boot sequence... you might have network boot before your hd....
I know sometimes the boot sequence doesn't save correctly. For example, when I save (change) my setting the first time to have my VIA SATA HD boot first, it'll alway changed to network boot. I have to save it the second time to have the setting keep....
Maybe that's the problem for you too...

  • Cannot boot with PXE on new Intel I217-LM nic card

I imaged a new Dell 5540 with nic I-218LM perfectly by inserting the driver.
After that I did the same with the Lenovo T540p with nic I-217LM which is the same driver "E1D6232.inf" and when I boot into PXE (after changing bios to UEFI network to both or legacy) it finds the SCCM/WDS server and finds the advertisement.
It asks me to press F12, I press it but it doesn't react and the following line is: "PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent". So I find this weird, it's like the key F12 doesn't work. Is there a way to see if this key works?
Does anybody know why it's not going furthur? The correct driver seems to be injected into the boot image. I am using the driver from the lenovo website in the Windows OS after Winpe stage.

After much frustration trying to get the drivers to install for a winpe boot image I found that the issue was it couldn't find the files to copy.  The inf file does not tell the install where to find the driver files. Instead it was trying to find them
in x:\windows\inf\   not where they are installed in the pe image simple fix was to copy the files into the windows inf folder and now the drivers install correctly.
I found this by hitting shift-F10 and the running notepad and opened the x:\windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log file, the source path for the driver points to x:\windows\inf (see below)

  • Windows 7 won't load properly / possible HDD failure?

Well I will start off by saying I've been having problems with this since I've bought it.  It used to be under warranty and I had to ship it back twice, and I've had to do countless system recoveries but this time I'm at a loss.  My current problem started about 4 days ago.  I had skype downloaded, and my skype started freezing randomly, but only for 30 seconds to a minute, and then come right back to working.  Then this started happening more frequently, and then it got to the point to where it wasn't just skype that would freeze, it was my computer.  It must have only been explorer.exe that was freezing or something because my mouse still moved, and if I was in a skype call the skype call would work but I couldnt type or click on skype without it saying that it wasn't responding.  Then yesterday that problem upgraded again to nothing working very well.  My computer (again I can only assume it was explorer or something) would start up normally, and then once I got to my desktop the load light would come on my tower and freeze / slow down anything and everything.  Example was I had VLC media player open watching a show and the video would freeze for 2 to 5 minutes, play for 10 seconds, then freeze again.  Beforehand it was only slight lock ups, but then it became full blown lockups.  Once that load light came on it stayed on and never wavered and I would be forced to restart my computer to even give it a chance to run properly for a few minutes before this same problem would occur.  Yesterday however the problem upgraded once again, and my computer wouldn't even let me get to my desktop normally.  I was able to load into safemode with networking to try some solutions but nothing worked.  Then the hangup issue started occuring in safe mode as well, forcing me to restart again.  This is where it just keeps getting worse sadly.  My computer would get to the "Starting Windows" screen, sit there for a couple minutes, then maybe 1 out of 10 attempts it would get to the "Welcome" screen as if it was trying to load my desktop but never would load it, and on the other 9 attempts I didn't make it to the "Welcome" screen it just sat a black screen with the load light going and it would never do anything.  My mouse has never been frozen at any point so it's not a full on freeze situation, but something isn't right.  I did a sytem recovery last night, put it back once again to factory settings and it still locked up a little but nothing compared to how it had been.  I turned my pc off and went to sleep, and then this morning it did the usual not getting past the "starting windows" screen.  Sometimes it wouldn't even recognize my hard drive, giving me the old "insert media and boot from disc" or "No media found", I also got two errors, PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable, and the other message was PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM.   Then after receiving those messages my computer would restart and give me the choice to hit a button to load from disk.  Throught the course of this problem I tried startup repairs, smart tests, anti viruses, nothing did anything to help.  So I decided once again it was going to be time for a system recovery, but now when I hit f11 to go into the system recovery options, all of it is blacked out.  I can't even click on system recovery anymore.  So at this point Windows 7 won't load at all, not even in safe mode, and I'm lucky to even be given the OPTION to start it in safe mode.  Half of the time it seems my computer doesnt even recognize my harddrive, and I can't even do a system recovery or repair tools, but the repair tools didn't really do anything anyway.  So I have no way to use that computer, and Im thinking it might be HDD failure but I'm not hearing any noises coming from it and my computer has always been a little slow so it's not like things have slowed down by a lot so I'm not so sure its my HDD but I have no idea what to do or where to start since I've exhausted all my of resources on trying to fix this issue myself.  I know this problem is probably way too vague to try to get an accurate idea of what is wrong, but I will check back now and then and answer any questions to the best of my ability (I'm not tech savy so if you need really fancy PC information you wil most likely need to tell me how to acquire said information).  I mean I guess if I have to I will get a new HDD, but that means I will most likely need to get a new OS, and I love windows 7 with all my heart and I don't want to upgrade at windows 8.  I feel like it's my OS but it could very well be anything at this point.

    Hi @rhhox ,

  • Hard disk failure? A505-S6980

I've had this laptop for about 5 weeks and it suddenly went to a black screen with the error: F3-F100-003.  PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable    PXE-MOF: exiting PXE ROM no bootable device - insert boot disk.  I rebooted with a recovery disk and had the Toshiba HDD/SDD Alert that the hard drive was experiencing a problem and it is predicts fail.  Windows also gave me a warning that something is wrong with the hard drive and to check with the manufacturer. It is currently working, but everything is very slow. Has this model had hard disk problems? Could you let me know what options I have? (have backed up everything- although not much is on it since it is so new)  Thanks for any input....

You'll need to contact Toshiba Technical Support and arrange to have it sent in to have the hard drive replaced.  Go to the Warranty Link at the top of this page to see how to do this.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Re: Need to format an internal hard drive into FAT32, how?

OK, this is no playstation forum but bear with me.
I bought a new 1 TB samsung internal HDD for my playstation 3 but it will not recognize it, probably because it is not pre-formatted into FAT32. I need to format this drive. I tried to put into an old laptop and do it but the connections were different. I put it into my Satellite A500-12W and thought I would use an old windows XP cd and find a "format" option instead of installation. However, the computer would not boot from the CD with the new hard drive in. I got the error message:
"PXE-E61: media test failure, check cable
    PXE-MOF: exiting Pxe rom"
The drive is brand new and should not be faulty. I had created Sattelite recovery discs before so I put number 1 in and then I reached the installation process but it seemed I had no option but to install the entire thing which is 4 DVDs and when I did it before I recall it being a days work (formatting often is with all the OK's that needs to be pressed) and I am working a lot these days, I would like to avoid making a full install just to be able to felete everything again and format it into FAT32. Since we are talking about the internal drive I can't just do it from windows since there is no windows on it....
The user manual has nothing useful to contribute, I have looked through setup looking for a "format" option but can't find one.
Can anybody help me? Can I for example enter MS-DOS without an operating system istalled and do it from there? All I want is an empty FAT32 HDD....

    Hi
I assume you have formatted the HDD in FAT32 but you didnt create an partition.
You have to create an partition on the HDD and then you can format this in FAT32
Then the full 1TB should be accessible.
You can do this using tool like fat32format
Copy this fat32format on diskette or HDD. Its not big 24kb
Now you have to point to the fat32format.exe and have to start this application using command fat32format.exe
Then use command fat32format X: (X means the HDD drive in most cases its C)
Now you have to press Y for Yes
    Other method:
Boot the notebook using an Linux Live CD like Knoppix
Such linux does not need to be installed on HDD.
Now Linux should be able to access the HDD and you could create an FAT32 partition on this HDD
