PXI-1033 Linux Support

Hi,
I have a setup with one PC connected to a USB-6009 and PXI-1033 chassis.
On windows both of the hardware work perfect.
Now I want to switch to Linux.
I installed
(1) NI-DAQmx Base 3.4 - SUSE, RedHat
(2) PXI Platform Services 2.6 - Linux - Beta
on a Scientific Linux 5.5
Everything went pretty well, no errors. I answered yes to all questions
Now, when I run lsdaq, only USB6009 is seen.
nipxi/nipxiconfig -l all shows nothing.
Is PXI-1033 supported on Linux ?

The PXI chassis is configured as the following
Slot 2,3 PXI-6255
Slot 4-6 PXI-6723
Connected to PC using PXIe-8361
nipxiconfig did not identify any card or chassis.
However, I believe the hardware connection is OK as I have the following lspci result

  • Suitable Laptop for PXI-1033

I am using a PXIe-8360 with a PXI-1033 and am trying to find a laptop that is compatible with this system.  NI states that not all laptops work with this configuration and has a list of laptops that do have been tested at (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5035).  This list is outdated and NI does not give any criterion on how to select a laptop that will work with this system on the webpage.  We have purchased an Acer 5680 and it doesn't seem compatible.  Is there a more recent list of laptops that are compatible?

    Hi PP83,
I am afraid that the knowledgebase article you located (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5035) has the most up-to-date information regarding compatibility between laptops and the Expresscard-MXI for PXI and PXI Express.  National Instruments is actively testing motherboards and laptops so that we can comment on compatibility with our MXI products.
For information on motherboards, desktops, and workstations compatible
with MXI products, you can create a service request with National Instruments PXI Support group at ni.com/support.

  • Pxi 1033 with expresscard 8360

    Hello,
I have a PXI 1033 Chassis with ExpressCard 8360. I connect it to laptop using ExpressCard.
I want to connect it to PC desktop. Would you please tell me how can I connect. What kind of board i need to connect ExpressCard to PC desktop.
    Best regards

There are 2 options for using your PXI 1033 with a desktop.  You can buy an NI PCIe-8361 to go in your desktop, then switch the cable between your desktop (with the NI PCIe-8361) and your laptop (with the ExpressCard-8360).  Or you can buy an ExpressCard adapter for your computer.
If you go the adapter route, you need to get one that plugs into a PCIe slot.  ExpressCard supports 2 interfaces: PCIe and USB.  On a "real" ExpressCard slot, both interfaces are available on the connector.  Some adapters plug into USB and only provide the USB interface, which works fine for ExpressCards that use the USB interface.  Some adapters plug into a PCIe slot and have a cable that plugs into a USB header on the motherboard, so it can support both interfaces (PCIe and USB).
The ExpressCard-8360 uses PCIe, so any adapter that connects via USB simply won't work.  Also note that the card retention isn't very good, and the slot won't support hot-plug like a native ExpressCard port.

  • Linux Support in Solaris 10

So where is the LINUX support in the new Solaris 10?
I downloaded the free Software Express for Solaris x86 Platform (11/04) and installed it on a Dell 8600 P4 1.8 system. Fresh install on a new hard drive. Then I tried to install the new FireFox web browser for Linux. Received the following error: Cannot find /lib/ld-linux.so.2. I was logged in as Root. Ran a search of the entire system and found nothing using pattern ld-linux*.

So where is the LINUX support in the new Solaris 10?It does not exist (at least not outside of Sun).
There are rumours that it will be available in one of the Solaris
10 update releases. In case S10 FCS will be available in
january/february 2005, and the rumour are true, I'd expect that
the linux support will be available somewhere in june 2005 (??
    S10 Update 1) or october 2005 (?? S10 Update 2). (Pure
speculation be me, I don't know the schedule)

Lack of Mac & Linux Support Hurting Javafx 2.0 Early Adoption and traction.
Oracle needs to come out with a Mac & Linux Beta built, or let developers know the real story behind Mac OS and Javafx 2.0.

I too would like to at least be able to try the Mac/Linux ports, even knowing that they are behind the Windows version. But just knowing that Oracle is committed to them is enough to ease any nervous feeling that I'm choosing the wrong tech.
I have no problems with the fact that Oracle is concentrating on Windows first. It makes sense. If you have to pick one platform to focus on while you are getting the kinks out, it makes sense for it to be the most popular platform. That's Windows. But there mustn't be too long of a wait for the others. (E.g. if they were in a public beta stage when the Windows version is at final release, that would help boost confidence in the platform.)
So long as they don't make the same mistakes that were made with Swing, where there are too many assumptions that all platforms work the same - so things like Mac's screen menu bar had to be fit in after the fact by Apple using awkward hacks. (I notice that now even popular Linux distros (Ubuntu) are using the screen menu bar concept, though they have managed to fit that into the window manager in such a way that it didn't seem to cause much problems.)

is there a chance that Itunes could be written for linux support?
i use fedora from RedHat and woul like to be able to use itunes on it

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view), this is a user to user forum and no one here knows what Apple's plans for the future might be. Apple discourages us from speculating about such matters.
If I were to speculate about why they don't want us speculating, it's probably because, among other things, it would just end up encouraging a lot of semi-informed opinions (i.e. speculation).
But again, I'm just speculating so please don't quote me on that.

  • EVE Online Linux Support is here.

The announcement can be found in this forum topic.
Cheers for a company that gives Linux support where other try to ignore player base (my humble opinion anyway).
Time to learn how to write PKGBUILDs .

In the options screen, I can't select windowed and if I change the resolution to a higher setting and press close, the client stops and doesn't restart on it's own. When I start it, it is still 10x24 fullscreen, but other settings have been saved.
As long as I stay inside a station, everything is fine and dandy, as soon as I undock the client crashes and when I try to login again and eve starts to load my toon (now outside a station somewhere) the client crashes again.
    I also get the error:
    sh: lsb_release: command not found
This can be solved by installing lsb_release, but the package isn't in pacman or AUR. I've been browsing the web to find a source tarball to make a PKGBUILD for it, but no luck so far.
You can run eve -config to get the cedega config options for eve, there you can set windowed mode.
Remember to turn off dx_grab there aswell if you're running windowed.
I get the lsb_release warning aswell but it does not affect running the client as far as I can tell.

Been a long time since I played Freelancer and I've never tried Vendetta. But Eve is third person and more tactical when it comes to fighting. It's very hard to summarize eve but it's really massive and the learning curve is steep but once you get into it, set some goals for yourself and find a good bunch of people to team up with I'd say it's the most rewarding mmo out there.
Only thing I can say it get the trial and see for yourself if it's a (THE) game for you.

  • Oracle on LINUX Support question

    Hello Gurus,
I’ve heard the rumor that Oracle will require all systems to be at the same level of support. For example, I might want to have engineering systems on network support, with enterprise systems on a mix of basic and premier support. Is this possible?
    Regards
    VENU

    VENU,
When you purchase Premier Support, all systems must be licensed for Premier Support. See also the Support Policies document (from linux.oracle.com):

  • Quality sound cards with good linux support

Since my Auzentech XFI forte is doomed on linux according to most of the internet (if you have one and made it work then please  PLEASE tell me how ) I'm gonna need a new one. Onboard sound just doesn't cut it anymore for me.
What I'm looking for is a good quality sound card that works perfectly on linux and isn't too expensive.
I don't care about 5.1 or 7.1, I mostly use headphones so high quality stereo output is of most importance.
Are there any sound card manufacturers that have some love for linux?
How are the Asus Xonar cards. I've read good reviews about them but I know nothing about how they work on linux.

I had an M-Audio Delta 1010lt once that had studio quality sound, linux support is good on the entire delta series.

  • URGENT: PXI-1033 and DAQmx problem

I bought new laptop with Express Card slot Dell Inspiron 6400. I have PXI-1033 with integrated MXI bridge, Express Card 8360 and PXI-modules: PXI-6251, 6115, 5114 and 4071. I installed drivers 8.3 and plugged in PXI modules into PXI-1033. I first power up PXI-1033 and than power up laptop (with Express Card in it). Laptop can not start, again can not, blue window, and at last start. In MAX is listed PXI chassis with bridge and all modules, but mx is not listed and I can not use it from LabVIEW. What is the problem?

    Hi,
To clarify, do the PXI modules show up under DAQmx devices?  What color is the Link LED on the 1033?  Do the cards all show up in Windows Device Manager correctly?  Also, are you able to power on the laptop successfully now every time, or does is have trouble booting each time you try and start it up?
Have you inspected the MXI cable for bent pins or any visible damage?
    Thanks!

  • Computer does not boot when pxi 1033 is connected

hiiiiii...........i am using NI pxi-1033 for my application & this pxi is connected to my system through PCIe-8361. i am using it from last 10 months, now suddenly my computer does not boot up. i start pxi first then start the computer but computer screen shows no signal. there is no blue screen error.
can you give me any point to troubleshoot the problem.

This probably doesn't help, since your setup used to work, but I have had to run the MXI Compatibility Tool on more than one PC.

One PC would only boot one time in ten, before running the tool.

  • NI PXI-4065 attached to PXI-1033 strange problem

    Hi all,
I have a NI PXI-1033 Chassis together with NI PXI 4065 DMM and NI PXI 6514 device.
The problem that I have is very annoying. When I restart my computer or install a new NI feature, the two NI PXI-6514 and PXI 4065 are no longer available as shown at the picture attached and I have to reinstall the drivers in order they to function properly. Why is this happening? Is it normal?
I will appreciate every help because it is urgent and important. Thank you!

I know this topic is ancient but I'm having a similar problem with my system:
PXI-1033 (thru external PC / PCIe)
    DAQmx 9.2.2
    LabVIEW 8.5
    Windows 7 (32-bit)
When starting MAX it gives the MAXPXITimeout error. Then MAX crashes most of the time or when it works, none of the devices are "present" according to MAX, i.e no initialize, fail self-test, etc. I tried this command "net start nidevldu" and I get a "windows system error 5 - access denied". So I ran the command prompt as administrator and then the NI Device Loader "successfully started". Now MAX works OK and all my devices are working, until next reboot. Is this a permission issue? I tried changing the NI Device Loader service to log as an admin, but no luck. After rebooting the same issue.
    Appreciate the help. Thanks,

  • Where is the GNU/Linux support?

I was looking for BlackBerry GNU/Linux support as part of our initiative to move to GNU/Linux desktops and found that RIM doesn't support it. Interestingly I have found a third party solution that supports BlackBerrys on GNU/Linux. It looks like that may be our temporary solution until we can phase out the BlackBerrys. I can't believe a company as big as RIM doesn't doesn't support GNU/Linux though.

You mean, for the free Reader? Nowhere; there isn't such a thing. Here is a link link for general support: Contact Customer Care, although experience shows that you get better support in these forums. Only remember that they are user to user forums and no fellow user is under the obligation to reply any question, so you must be prepared to be patient at times, as Test Screen Name says.
