PXI-6704 AO Voltage Spike during Power Down

Current Setup: PXI 6704 connected to SCB68A. On one of the analog outputs, I have a motor (powered via 24 VDC and controlled by 0-5V via PXI 6704).
During power up (powering up the PXI chassis), 0 volts are shown from the 0-5 V ouput. When I shutdown (i.e. turn off 24 VDC power supply and PXI Chassis, a 3.64 Volt spike develops at the 0-5V output and the motor spins then shuts down as the powersupply is also shut off during this time.
I tried leaving the AO ground open and also grounded to the 24 VDC common. Both result in the same issue.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks for the help.

The chassis is still powered on when the voltage spike develops. This spike occurs when the power supply (24 VDC) is turned off/ disconnected prior to turning off the chassis.
As a current fix, I connected the 0-5 AO from the 6704 to a relay and I keep the relay in the "open state" during power off. Even if the spike develops, no connection to the motor is made.

  • Input Over-voltage protection during Power Off

    Hi,
I am using NI-PCI-4474 & NI-PCI-4472B for my data acquisition application. The normal input voltage range is +/-10V while input over-voltage protection range is +/-42V. Now if the PC in which these devices are installed is powered off, will the input over-voltage range will remain same? Actually in our application, there may be a chance that input signal is coming while these devices are powered off. Do I need to use some extra protection mechanism in this case?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi aNIta B,
      Thanks for your support.
Basically input voltage signal will remain in the range of +/-10V (and worst case +/-25V) when device is powered off. I am just concerned since usually for an operational amplifier present at input stage, if there is no input current limiting mechanism, the input voltage can damage operational amplifier if its supply voltage is cut-off (which will obviously be the case when device is powered off). This is what typically mentioned in operational amplifier datasheets. Also if over-voltage protection (+/-42V) is based upon active components then it should also be dependent on supply voltage condition.
I hope you understand my point now. I shall be waiting for your expert advice since you may be much more aware about the input circuitry and protection mechanism used.

  • Many Tabs & Windows Lost during Freeze & Force Power Down

Sorry for the long post, you can stop reading at whatever point my question seems clear
Where is the data located of previous tabs and windows from a previous Safari session - during a New Safari session  - but PRIOR to slecting "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" ?
This question may be a bit confusing so I will provide the scenario that prompted this question, a few additional details, and lastly an illustration showing what I'm talking about that you can duplicate if you so choose.  :-)
I do a lot of research and use many windows and tabs on a regular basis - approximately 80.
I realize now that I should use bookmarks, but starting Safari and just clicking one click -"Reopen All Windows from Last Session"- has been faster for me than daily organizing and updating bookmarks - (lesson learned).
Yesterday in Safari I had these 80 tabs opened in several windows.  Later I quit Safari.
Today I started Safari, opened a couple new tabs, then a few minutes later my 2011 MacBook Pro froze and became unresponsive.  I had to force power down.
Note: Safari was not "quit" in the traditional sense.
Note: I did not select "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" before my computer froze.
The LastSession.plist file will contain the links for the previous session After you select "quit" in Safari.  When you start a new Safari session, then open a few new tabs, but do not select "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" the LastSession.plist will only have the newly opened tabs.  Then when you "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" the old previous tabs are opened - so where does the computer get this data from?
It's not possible for me to realistically find the tabs in my history as this work has been done over months and they would be buried in many thousand other links in my history file.
I have not rebooted my computer since the force power down and have it currently in target disk mode connected to my iMac.
If you can help with this you really will be a Master - because both the genius bar person and the engineer on the phone at apple didn't know.
Just in case my description hasn't been clear, I'll now provide an illustration you can do yourself to see what I'm talking about:
Open Safari - Go to apple.com and open about 10 tabs all from apple.com domain.... Then Quit.
Open the ~/library/safari/LastSession.plist file in TextEdit and you will see those links.
Now open Safari.  Go to any website - like tvguide.com ... open about 10 tabs all from that domain.  Do NOT quit Safari.
Open the ~/library/safari/LastSession.plist file in TextEdit and you will see those links from tvguide.com and NONE of the tabs from apple.com.
Now select "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" in the History menu of Safari and all your tabs from apple.com will show up.
Only now, After having clicked "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" will the  LastSession.plist file show the apple.com/...  tabs.
So the question is - where is that data saved (all those apple.com/... tabs) which Safari gets it from, before selecting "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" ??
By determining this hopefully I will save the months of research work I had in those tabs.
    Thank you.
Safari Version 5.1.1  OS Version 10.6.8

    Hi Linc,
I use Time Machine on my desktop Macs, both at home and the office but unfortunately Time Machine was not active on this laptop.  Yes, If I had it I would simply revert to the old LastSession.plist file created in the last quit of Safari prior to the crash.  But I don't have TM on this laptop, the LastSession.plist has thus been overwritten with the couple new tabs in the active session of Safari before it crashed, and thus the reason for my original post and question.
My hope is that someone will know where the data is grabed from (descriped in my original post) so I can save the months of research work done.
    Thank you.

  • Automatic power-down of PXI-1033 chassis. Noisy chassis fan.

I went to use my PXI chassis today. I always keep it powered, but today it wasn't on when I went to use it. Turns out that there's an automatic power down if the fan 'fails'. So I removed the chassis power, and then repowered the chassis. Heard a noisy fan - like one of the blades were hitting something solid. And I only heard something when the chassis was in the 'big fan down' orientation It was the big fan on the 'bottom' of the unit which cools the boards. To fix this, I removed the air filter, and then the wire screen, and then the wire fan protector. I rebent the 4 legs of the wire fan protector (be sure to rebend both elbows of each leg) so that it sits farther away from the fan blades. Put it back to gether, and now no sound.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Apparently my PXI chassis is part of a 'fan replacement' recall.

  • My hp envy want quit saying " do not power down during update" powered down 3 times and still saying

My hp envy want quit saying " Do not power down during update" powered down 3 already still saying the same thing.

so my printer worked for a month and then it asked me if i wanted to install updates. It's been installing updates for three weeks and says not to turn off. I've turned it off several times and unplugged it a few times.  No other buttons work on the screen because i can't get to them.  Obviously it's a software problem but i can't find any updates to fix it.  The guy on the help line said it's a hardware problem and that they'd offer me a $95 discount on a newer model, but it would still cost me over $150 and it would be a refurb. So they have a bunch of these printers that sat in a store that didn't sell and passing off printers not in a new box and then talk to me like i should be so thankful they gave me this wonderful discount for a "new" printer that nobody else wanted when i'm still stuck with a printer i paid full price for and should've been able to get replaced. Now i've really paid over $270 for a printer i'm not even sure i want that might have another bug they can't fix.  It's just wrong.  Anybody know a fix for this so i can cancel the order for a new printer i'm not sure i want?
    thanks,

  • Pxi-6704 Problem

If I short the DAC outputs ( Analog voltage )on the Pxi-6704 ,, Is there any problem ? Because i see that the device does not respond for any further voltage changes. But when i do a resource test in MAX it passes..Please suggest.

    Hello;
It's generally not a good idea to short the output lines anyway.
If you need the output channels to output a steady zero voltage, the best way to accomplish that is to insert a pull down resistor to ground instead.
    Hope this helps.

  • I am getting a voltage spike on starting and stopping a daqmx task

    Hello,
I am having a problem with a PXI-4461 DSA board that I can't explain.  When starting or stopping an analog output task, I am getting a voltage spike before the generation starts and after it stops.  We have put a speaker on the output, and the spike sounds like a "pop" when that happens.  However, the pop goes away when the card is also acquiring an analog input in the card.  This is a repeatable event, and very strange.  We have used the two examples "ContAcqGraph Voltage" for the analog input and the "Retriggering_Analog_Output_Waveform_Generation" to generate this phenomena.
Has anyone ever seen this before?  Is our card the culprit?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hey Rob,
I found out some information that might be helpful to you.  There was a problem identified with that particular SVT example awhile ago where spikes would happen due to a Device Reset during the generation.  This device reset was performed by default in the example if there was an error with the AO generation.  Since your code was based off of this example, I believe that there's a Device Reset happening due to some error.  If you could, please go through your application and ensure proper error chaining so that any errors generated are seen by the user.  You can also go through and probe the error clusters coming out of the VIs in order to get a quick picture of what might be happening.
The specific VI in question is "SVT Close Swept Sine (DAQmx).vi".  You can set a breakpoint before the "DAQmx Reset Device.vi" on the block diagram and verify that this is happening(see attachment screenshot).  Let me know what you find out.
    Good luck

  • DisplayPort HPD IRQ and Power Down mode

    Hi,
I've been working with the DisplayPort IP V6.0 for a while now and have come across some potentiall undesireable/unspecified behaviour. All transactions on the AUX channel have been monitored using a Unigraf DPA-400 1.2 for reference
We have the IP configured as sink device and have had reports recently that when a DP source is connected to our card and out card is repowered, the DP source (PC graphics card), seems to write to DPCD register 0x00600 and set us into the D3 power down mode (b'10'). Shortly after this the sink generates a HPD IRQ signal to the source to indicate that it requries attention (see BlackScreens_on_Projector_Reboot.html, lines 388 and 398) . However, conducting the same test (power down and then up of a Dell 4K monitor), does not generate this HPD IRQ after being set in the power down mode (see Dell_Monitor_Power_Down, line 153 onwards).
Every time I have monitored the AUX bus and seen the DIsplayPort IP being set into power down mode, a HPD_IRQ is generated.
    The DP 1.2 specification states:
    2.9.3.5 Link Maintenance
The Sink device must maintain the Link Status flags in DPCD registers 00202h-00204h during normal
operation. Upon loss of synchronization with the Source for any reason other than after receiving a
SET_POWER_STATE (DPCD 00600h) to 10b request, or to request retaining the link for any reason, the Sink
must clear INTERLANE_ALIGN_DONE and generate a distinct IRQ_HPD (i.e. distinct from an IRQ_HPR
    generated for any other reason).
I have looked at the software to confirm it is not the software generating the HPD_IRQ by writing to register 0x02C and have also confirmed this by monitoring the internal AXI bus to the core using the ILA. No writes are occurring to this register, therefore something in the core would seem to be generating this IRQ when it shouldn't be. As the source code for the DisplayPort IP is encrypted it is difficult to trace this problem any further.
To test this in isolation would require and AUX channel master that would undertake link training and then write to the SET_POWER_STATE register. Unfortunately the only DP sources we have are graphics cards at this point. Any suggestions on this front would be appreciated.
I have raised this with our FAE but thought I'd post here to see if anyone else has seen this behaviour.
    Regards
    Simon

  • KT4V & XP2200+, Win2000 Pro won't restart or power down on shut

    KT4V & XP2200+, Win2000 Pro won't restart or power down on shut
Just picked up new KT4V and a XP 2200+ for a system build-up for a magazine article story. It also has a Maxtor 120GB 7200 HDD and 1GB of Micron PC2700 (2.5 latency) RAM. Installed Win 2000 Pro on the system (later another HDD will get XP Pro). The Video card is an HIS manufactured ATI Radeon 9000 w/64MB.
Had a few problems on install, got STOP screens a few times. Finally installed and Win 2000 runs fine, EXCEPT that it won't restart warm (like after installing apps or even selecting restart from shutdown) and the system won't power off on full shut down. I get the "It's safe to turn off your system" screen. Checked everywhere in the BIOS setup and 2000 Pro Control Panel for a selection, but there is none!
On restarts, it seems to go throught the "post" and just when the Windows start should come on, blank screen. HDD stops seeking, like doesn't know what to do.
This is also occuring with the Win XP Pro installation, but the OS is even acting flakier!
    Latest BIOS has been installed.
I finally spoke to a MSI Tech Rep (took three days of calling and two unreturned messages), with less then what sounded much experience or actual knowledge, he said that it was an incompatibility problem with various ATI Radeon based video cards. I said, WHAT?! You don't design a MB to be compatible with the largest mfg. of video cards! Can anyone confirm this???
I am less than inspired by MSI,  folks. And, it will be related in the article I'm writing.  X(
Does anyone have any ideas regarding the reason and solutions to the problems??

well i cannot say ive noticed it,a search here only got a single thread re both cards together,i would have expected more
tried http://www.memtest86.com on ram,try one by one if multi sticks
what psu, combined watts ,amps 3 main voltages
seem to recall reading with them they have the extra power intake, and one guy advised making sure card was only thing on it
in device manager whats pc seen as,acpi uniprocessor?
also whats irq sharing look like
    try latest bios as well

  • How to see the last updates made during Power Nap?

    Hello guys,
I am using MacBook Pro with Retina Display with Power Nap turned on. I think it's a great feature, but I wouyld like more control — to be able to see the updates it has made while sleeping.
Is there any way to see the last updates made during Power Nap? Maybe some logs etc.

You can see updates installed via Software Update by clicking on the Apple > About this Mac > more info > System Report > scroll down to Software > Installations. That is a comprehensive list - you won't find a separate list of the last hour or whatever (that I know of). There might be a terminal command for that - or not - I don't know of one.
FWIW, I like to know what updates are being installed when, so I do not allow automatic download/installs of anything - I allow automatic checking so I get a notification that an update is available, but then I prefer to choose if/when I will download and install.

  • 2 node failover cluster power down

I have a 2node failover cluster. When I power down a node that has the SQL server instance and resources, all the resources and service failover to the other node.   When I see that all the resources and service report "online" I then power
that node.  I am being told that this is improper because failover may not have completed.  Is that correct?
Also, in our 2 node failover cluster is there a proper sequence to restarting the powered down nodes?

    Hi,
The cluster group containing SQL Server can be configured for automatic failback to the primary node when it becomes available again. By default, this is set to off.
    To Configure:
Right-click the group containing SQL Server in the cluster administrator, select 'properties' then 'failback' tab.
To prevent an auto-failback, select 'Prevent Failback', to allow select 'Allow Failback' then one of the following options:
Immediately: Not recommended as it can disrupt clients
Failback between n and n1 hours: allows a controlled failback to a preferred node (if it's online) during a certain period.

  • How can I install PXI-6704 into PXI1031?

I need to install the PXI-6704, (it has 16 extra AO points) to PXI 1031, in one of the free slots.
1.What are the precautions to be taken?
    2. Is it just removing the screws and just inserting the card?
I also bought the SCB 68 terminal board and NI-SCB-68 Shielded desktop connector block.
    1. How can I connect the terminal block into the Shielded desktop connector block? What are the precautions?
    2. SCB-68 pin diagram show only 68pins with 2 AO points than how can I use it for 16more AO points what will be the pin connection?

    Hello,
Inserting the PXI card is as simple as removing the slot blocker on the front of the chassis, inserting the card and tightening up two screws. Don't force the card in, there are rails and it should slide smoothly until the card is nearly fully in and then you will feel some resistance as the card slides home. Dont insert the card with the PXI chassis powered on and don't force the card. Sometimes the cards can be a little stiff when inserted so don't be afraid.
I am confused by your comment on the SCB-68 terminal board and SCB-68 shielded connector block. The SCB stands for 'Shielded Connector Block'. You cannot connect the terminal block into the Shielded desktop connector block as they are one and the same thing.
The SCB-68 diagram will not tell you where to hook up your wires. You need to study the pinout for the 6704 card. It will tell you which pin on the SCB-68 you need to use for the AO's.
You have this already installed on your computer, goto Start>>Program Files>>National Instruments>>NI-DAQ>>NI-DaqMX Help. This Help file contains a section called 'NI-DAQmx Device Terminals>>DAQ Devices and then lots of cards underneath. Scroll down to the NI 6704 and you will see which pins on the SCB-68 route to which channels on the PXI board.
The SCB-68 works with a huge number of different cards and as such needs to be non-specific in terms of which pin goes where- so the pinout for the connector block changes depending on which card is connected
I hope this clafafies things a little,

    Dave.

  • MAC MINI LATE 2012 UNEXPECTED POWER DOWN

    Hi all,
I got a mac mini late 2012 (Stock RAM 4GB and Stock HDD 500GB) a month back in India . Last night had some colony of ants marching towards my mac mini and crawling inside from under the lid. I tried to get rid of all of 'em. Now since last night my mac mini abruptly powers down be it either during use or be it in sleep mode. I am afraid if the warranty is void since there are some more ants roaming inside. Also when it powers down abruptly, I don't get any notifications on the same on my screen. It fails to recognise when I press the power button to restart it again. I had  to unplug the power cord from behind, switch off the main socket power supply and then had to plug it again and start my mac mini to restart it. And when it restarts it shows no sign of any notification for abrupt power down. Request someone to help me on the same. Majorly I'm concerned with my warranty. Thanks in advance to all those ppl out here in this forum to help me on this ..

Okay.. I went to apple service point today morning.. The executive took my Mac mini and told me that they'll clean it completely .. Waited for 2 hours .. Came out with my Mac mini and told me that they had cleaned it .. But when I reached back home I was happy until I saw two of those tiny little suckers crawling up on my Mac mini again..opened the lid of the Mac mini from bottom and saw a bunch of them .. Called up the service centre again .. Blasted at him.. He asked me to drop in to the service point again.. Let's see.. Hopefully expecting a good result while I return back from the service centre tomorrow atleast. These tiny little creatures are driving me crazyyyy !!!

  • Computer wont boot after long power down z77a-g45

    Hi experts !
    I think i need some help. I own a z77-g45, bios 2.9 + Core I5 3570K +SSD 120 Go intel + ati 7950.
I received this MB one week ago. Since, i try to make it work, no trying OC.
I began with Win8. Installations seemed fine, but after some time letting computer power down, i alwas found myself facing OS unable to boot, even when using older restoration point.
So i decide to go with win7 64 bits.
Once again, all looked like running fine, till a long power down, after that, OS refused to boot, locked on screen with colored windows logo.
I can boot in safe mode. But still couldnt find a faulty service with msconfig a dichotomic way. Os went back during the process..
What i noticed, is that after a long power down, it seems to happen something in the Bios : when the computer starts, it shuts down after one second, and then restarts again. Like if some settings were changed automatically by the motherboard. But I didn't see what the changes are.
    Does that inspire someone ?
    Thanks
    Nicolas

I saw a similar post, where the guy changed the on board lithium battery.
I did the same, and now everything looks fine.
I also did a dual boot install : w7 x64 and w8 x64. That allows me to have access to a boot menu with the ability to easily start w8 in safe mode if needed. I noticed it can help, cause sometimes, the integrated GPU (HD4000) has some side effects.
