PXI-8108 vs LabVIEW RT

Hello,
I'm looking for a compatibility table, that would give to me, for each PXI-CPU the list of LVRT release that are compatible.
Is anyone knows where to find it ?
From now I only want to know if PXI-8108 can runs LV-RT 2014, 2013 or 2012, but a complete table would be very interesting to manage obsolescence.
Thanks

  • Issues when installing Windows XP on a PXI-8108 with a Solid State HDD

    Hi,
I have been assisting a client with installing Windows XP onto a PXI-8108 controller.  They have replaced the default HDD with a solid-state HD.
We have attempted to run the System Recovery CD.  The recovery part works fine, ie. you select Acronis, it unzips all the files to C drive.
However when it gets up to the bit where Win XP Setup starts (after rebooting once the Recovery section completes), we have issues.
It can't find files, ie. dmconfig.dll, gm.dls, etc on the Win XP CD.  When it tries to find mfc40u.dll, it came up with an error:
"The file Setup placed on your hard drive is not a valid Win XP System image.  If you are installing from a CD, there may be a problem with the Windows XP CD."
We have tried two different recovery CDs, and we even tried just a plain Win XP CD.  All had similar issues.
We have tried different SATA settings in the BIOS - both IDE AND AHCI.
It may just be that we have a faulty SSD, however it seemed to work ok when we had it connected to the PXI via USB (with the default HDD still in place).  I was able to run diskcheck, which did not bring up any errors.  Disk Management showed things were healthy.
So what I would like to know, is if there is any issue with a PXI-8108, and SSDs?  We have successfully performed this operation a few months back using the same brand of SDD, but with a PXI-8104.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

This is more than likely a failing disk.  SSDs don't always report failures in the same way as a rotating drive.  Also, the tools that are helpful with diagnosing rotating drive failures don't always work with SSDs.
From the thread, it sounds like you have another system with this same SSD and it is working properly.  Does that system have the same PXI Controller and Chassis?
I have seen these types of errors if the media for the OS installation is corrupt, but it sounds like you have tried different CDs.
I realize you have limited access to this drive, but here are my recommendations:
    1)  Put the failing SSD in a different system (desktop is preferable), and install a base version of XP.  If this fails, RMA the drive, they normally have 3-5 warranties.
    2)  Run Crystal Mark Info and check for SMART failures:
    http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html
    3)  You can securely erase the SSD, which is not for the faint of heart.  This will restore the drive to a new condition.  If the drive has a bad cell which is causing data corruption during the OS install, securely erasing the drive will hopefully cause the firmware to map out the bad areas.  This is a good tutorial, just ignore that fact that it is targeted at Intel drives.

  • Pxie 8108 does not boot with new hard disk

    Hi
    I'm currently using PXIe 8108 with PXIe-1062Q.
The previous hard disk was borken so I had to install a new hard disk.
The new hard disk is fommatted as NTFS format, and it is currently mounted on 8108.
Unfortunately I don't have recovery disk avaialble so I'm trying to install Windows 7 on empty hard disk.
When you boot, the PWK OK LED light is on all the time, DRIVE orange LED is on for few seconds only when I turn the switch on.
Labview RT switches are all off, I cleared CMOS many times from the board but, the screen shows nothing.
I have tried use my DVI monitor with other device as well, and it worked so there is no problem with the monitor.
In addition, I tried to go to window safe mode by pressing F8 or Del it didn't work, so I see nothing on the screen when its booted up.
I tried to put as much information I can it will be very appreciated if you can help me with this issue please.

You said you can't get into Windows safe mode, have you installed Windows on the hard drive?  Are you able to get into the BIOS for the controller?
If you aren't able to access the BIOS for the controller, it may be due to bad RAM.  If you are comfortable installing RAM and you have some extra laptop RAM of the same type (I think it's DDR3 for your controller) laying around, you can try swapping out the RAM.
Was your hard drive damaged through some event, or did it just stop working?

  • Dual Monitor with PXI-8108

I am trying to use dual monitors with a PXI-8108 and the NI DVI splitter as described here
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/0E993D33675CD46A862572D50072C6A3
There must be some software update I need because I don't not have an option for the second monitor?  Does anyone
know what I may need to update, possibly the graphics driver, and where to find it?
I have (2) mobile intel 4 series express chipset family listed under my device manager
    driver version 6.14.10.5009

Are you trying to use three monitors with the setup in question there? Adding another set of splitters could impact the signal quality depending on your monitors and needs.
I'm not aware of a specific test with that setup, but given the correct adapter types and correct signal sources on each adapter, I would imagine you may be able to get it to work.
Again, as with the above posts, reference the linked Discussion Forum thread in the first post here, as you are going to be looking at similar questions in that case.

  • Can i use PXIe-1073 with an embedded PXIe controller PXIe-8108

I have a PXI express chassis PXIe-1073 with an integrated controller MXI-Express controller PCIe-8361. I now want to use the chassis as a standalone system with an embedded controller.
    (a)Can i use PXIe-1073 chassis with PXIe-8108 embedded controller
(b)Can i use a windows based laptop to control the PXIe-1073 via the PCIe-8361 integrated controller.

    Hello kanad,
The PXIe-1073 is a MXI-integrate chassis.  This means that the MXI card that would normally go into the controller slot (slot 1) is built into the chassis.  The PCIe-8361 or Expresscard8360 are placed into the desktop or laptop, respectively, and connect to the chassis.  The cards in the PXIe-1073 then appear as if they are part of the desktop of laptop.
Since the controller is built into the chassis, the PXIe-1073 does not have a slot 1.  Controllers, such as the 8108 can only be plugged into slot 1.  Therefore, the PXIe-1073 can only be controlled by the desktop or laptop MXI link.  It cannot run standalone with an embedded controller.
Consider reading page 1-3 and 1-6 in the manual below:

  • Letter of Volatility for PXI-8108?

Is there a Letter of Volatility Available for the PXI-8108 describing volatile and non-volatile memory

To anyone interested in getting a Letter of Volatility (LOV):
We have started posting LOVs on some product pages of our website in the resources section, so it is worth checking there before contacting us. In many cases, as it was in this one, we have not made the LOV publicly accessible at this time.
In that case, the most efficient way to get LOVs is to contact our support engineers by calling 866-ASK-MYNI (275-6964). They will be able to talk to you about your need for the document and speak with our internal resources to get that to you fairly quickly.

I believe on new controllers now there is a way to reinstall the factory image, via acronis. When you turn the computer on before windows starts i think there is a text prompt saying acronis loader press f4. Press f4 this will put you into the reimage the hardrive. Before doing this btw get all your data off

  • PXIe-8108 GPIB

    Bonjour,

  • Program to write signals from PXI 5105 using labview 2011

    Hello
I am new in using labview. I need help in writing program to continuously record the signals form PXI 5105 using LabVIEW 2011.  I prepared a program using help examples. It is recording the signal using pxi 5105 into the file after trigger. I tested the code using waveform generator with -100mV to 400mV, 1 kHz, sine wave. I have also attached the waveform of signal from the excel file recorded by the program. I have following queries
    (i) Is the program correct to continuously record the triggered signals. Have I used the while loop correctly?
(ii) why some part in waveform is missing.
(iii) What should be the value of millisecond multiple ( I used zero)
I want to use above program for strain gauge signal measurement. Where I have to record the data at 20Ms/sec sample rate for 1 milli second after trigger.
    thanks

    Hi,
Sorry but I've only got LabVIEW 2010 so I can't open your file. If you can post a 2010 version I can take a look.
    vinod_p wrote:

If you are talking about the "Wait until Next ms Multiple" function then "Wiring a value of 0 to the milliseconds multiple input forces the current thread to yield control of the CPU." (from the context help for the function - press <ctrl>+h). Is this the behaviour you want?
Normally the ms multiple function is used to synchronise loops as it waits until the next multiple (be it 10ms or 10s) before continuing the loop.

  • How to acquire data through multiple channels in parallel using PXI 6070 E, PXI 4071 and LabVIEW?

    Hi,
I am using NI LabVIEW, NI PXI 4071, and NI PXI 6070E to measure current through a variable resistance. Now, I am using one channel from SCB-68, but I want to add another channel in parallel so that I can have two resistors instead of one that I cam measure current through them.
I have attached a Pdf file showing the setup for hardware in use and LabVIEW code also.
Can anyone look at these files and give me guide lines or ideas that can help me resolving this issue, please.
    Thanks in advance.

Your 4071 can only do one measurement at a time. Your DAQ cannot measure resistance either nor has it got any analogue inputs.
However, you could use a multiplexer and multiplex your 4071 DMM. This wont give you simultaneous measurements but can acquire data one after the other, the speed is obviously dependent on the multiplexer you choose!
    Hope this helps.

  • PXI-8231 with LabVIEW RT

    Hi,
I plan to use a PXI-8231 in a PXI-1042 chassis with PXI-8184 controller.  The controller doesn't run Windows, it runs LabVIEW RT 7.1.
Let's say that in my code I do a TCP Open Connection - since I can't specify what Ethernet adapter to use (8231 or the on of the 8184) how does that work?  Does the TCP layer looks for the specified address from both Ethernet adatpers and returns the right connection?
Now let's say I do the same thing with Open Application Reference (to use VI server), is the TCP layer looking for machine name from both Ethernet adatpers and return the right reference?
    Patrick.

    Hi Patrick,
So I would specify the IP address of the adapter you are attempting to communicate with. If you specified a static IP address for the 8231, then you would simply wire this as the input to your TCP or Open Application Reference vi's. If, on the other hand, you are using DHCP to specify the IP address, we can get a little tricky. I'll assume that you know the MAC address of both network adapters, since you verified that you know how to configure multiple adapters in MAX. You can then find out the IP address that is assigned to your network adapter by using the RT Ping Controllers.vi. This sends out a ping to your controller and returns a list of all devices that returned the communication, specifying both the MAC address and the corresponding IP address. So by knowing your MAC address, you can then see what IP address was assigned. Then simply use this as your input to your network communication vi's, as previously mentioned.
I hope this fleshes things out a bit.
    Cheers,
    Emilie
