PXIe 1071 remote power up

The PXIe 1071 chassis is located inside a panel which is normally kept closed. Every day morning at start of shift, the operator has to open the panel door and switch ON the White button in front of the controller. This is something they are not happy doing as the panel does have high voltage switchgear at the bottom level.
Earlier with PCI boards and normal Induatrial computer we could wire the Power ON / OFF button to a switch outside the panel. Whihc was in parallel with the built in power switch of the PC.
I would like to get the same functioanlity with the PXI also, as noted below :
- When the panel is powered up, the PXI also powers up and loads the WIN7 OS.
- The operator launches the application and completes testing.
- When done he quits the application, shuts down the PC.
- Powers down the panel and goes home.
I have already treid to read the manual which talks of a SW1 switch but the description is quite ambigous as to what it does :
When switch 1 of SW1 is on, the backplane controls the power supply on/off state. This allows you to circumvent the controller and turn the chassis on/off manually. When switch 1 of SW1 is on, the power supply turns on when you press the front panel power switch....
I really am not clear as to what hey are trying to say. And since the system is now with client, I need to be sure before I propose to change default settings. Trial and error will look not so good.

Hi Ming,
I apologize for my confusion regarding the functionality of the DB9 inhibit switch versus the white power button.  I must have misinterpreted the descriptions in the User Manual.  It seems that the white power button can hibernate the system whereas the DB9 inhibit switch just cuts off the power.  In order to properly shut it down without using the white power button you will need to first hibernate or shutdown the computer through the Windows interface, then you can use the DB9 inhibit switch to remotely cutoff the power to the chassis and later turn it back on.  I am not aware of another simple 'one press button' type way to remotely hibernate the PXI controller.
Since your chassis is located in a cabinet you could run keyboard and monitor cables to the device to interface with it.  Alternately, you could connect the chassis to the internet and use Remote Desktop to shut it down.

  • Pxie-1062q remote power up and power down

    Hi All
I'm using a PXIe-1062q chassis with PXIe-8108 controller. I plan to mount the chassis inside a cabinet, therefore it will be difficult to gain access to the small white power on/off button on the front of the PXI chassis. Is there a way I can gain access to the power on/off by way of the DB9 connector on the back of PXI chassis?
I've already tried the inhibit switch on the DB9 connector and it simply cuts the power to the PXI and does not shut it down properly.
    Thanks in advance

  • DC Powered NI PXIe-1071

    hello!
I am actually using NI PXIe-1071.The Input source is AC but my requirement is to power up my PXIe through DC Input. Can u suggest any power distribution solutions like DC-DC Converters or modules with multi voltage levels meeting the power requirements of PXIe.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Will AC power not be avaialbe where you are using this chassis?  The chasis powered by AC input as you stated.  If only DC is available, you will need a DC/AC inverter to use this chassis.
Here are the Power Input specs:
Input voltage range................................. 100 to 240 VAC
    Input frequency ...................................... 50/60 Hz
    Input current rating................................. 4-2 A
    Line regulation
    3.3 V................................................ <±0.2%
    5 V................................................... <±0.1%
    ±12 V .............................................. <±0.1%

  • Getting DataSocket for LV RT 5.0.0 installed on PXIe-1071?

    Hello all,
Hopefully this is just an easy to answer question, but since I got so stuck on this I'll ask it anyway.
How do I install "DataSocket for LabVIEW Real-Time 5.0.0" (on a NI PXIe-1071 module with MAX)?
Installing software with MAX and getting it on they module is not the problem, the problem is that I can't find any setup file to download that has the specific program: "DataSocket for LabVIEW Real-Time 5.0.0".
The system we use is a:
    - NI PXIe-1071
    With the modules:
    - NI PXIe-8100 (Embedded controller, Slot 1)
    - NI PXI-7951R (FPGA with NI 5751 adapter module for flexrio, Slot 2)
    - NI PXI-5402 (Function generator, Slot 3)
The software we have installed can be seen in the picture (Attachment) (And yes we also need to resolve the driver problem for the function generator in slot 3 as can be seen in the picture
All software in installed with MAX, all NI drivers have been updated in the last two days to the latest versions. A lan connection (with same subnet) connects our host computer with our NI PXIe-1071 box.
The reason we need the "DataSocket for LabVIEW Real-Time 5.0.0" is that we are creating a copy of a working existing system.
When trying to find it on the NI support pages we keep finding a page that directs to the page to instal NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 2012. After downloading and trying to install it we get this message: "Cannot install - NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 2012 f3 (higher version already installed)"
    Thanks in advance,

I'm looking for a Letter (certificate) of Volatility for the following, please:
    PXIe-1071

    Hey,
This is the type of request that would be better suited for an official service request via our support system. Since there was a nearly identical request submitted recently, I am going to assume that it pertains to the same incident and handle it via that channel.

  • Bluetooth connectivity for PXIe-1071, PXIe-8133

Hi, There are about 24 numbers of NI PXIe-1071 chassis with PXIe-8133 controllers in our lab. I would like to interface a Bluetooth device (EEG and ECG monitors) with the DAQ. The DAQs are running Windows 7 and LabVIEW.
How would you suggest I connect the Bluetooth devices to the DAQs?
If I buy Bluetooth dongles that fit via the USB is that a good solution?
    Thanks.
    Philip

    Hi PKP,
Since your controllers are running Windows 7, they function just as a normal computer would; therefore the USB ports would behave just as a desktop would. You could load the drivers onto the controller and collect data from the bluetooth device that way. Do you have software to read the EEG and ECG signals into LabVIEW?

  • Remote Power Switch

    Greetings!
I have a G5 Quad that I love, but not the noise or the heat. In the basement just below where the computer is I have a workbench with a workstation already sitting there that I use remotely whenever I need to do something Windows only.
I've found several locations to purchase a long DVI cable and will get an external firewire CD/DVD and already have a firewire/USB hub and a conduit run through the wall from the basement to upstairs. All I need now is a way to turn it on from upstairs. Does anyone know of a remote power-on solution that would work with the G5?
    Many thanks in advance!

  • PXIe-1071 maximum ram?

We have a PXIe-1071 and would like to upgrade the memory from the existing 4 GB.  What is the maximum this board will support?  I opened it up and found 2 SODIMM slots occupied by 2 GB.   Will it take 4 GB sticks (for a total of 8 GB) or 8 GB sticks (total of 16 GB) ? The manual  and NI page mentions nothing about RAM at all, but the page for the PXIe-8135 says it supports 16 GB.

If the spec say 8GB is your limit, then 8GB is your limit.

  • PXI 1010 Chassis power failed.

Now one PXI 1010 backplane power failed on PXI section, but SCXI side can power on.I ever checked nad reset circuit breaker, no help. I need your help! Who will give me a kind hand?

    Roger,
If you have already checked the circuit breaker and have verified that it is not tripped, more than likely there is a power failure with the PXI portion of the power supply. I would create a phone service request at www.ni.com/ask. We can only handle returns through our phone support. At that point, if you indicate that you have a damaged product, we can work with you to get it fixed.

  • PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5GHz Remote Power Button ??

    Hi,
I'm moving a G5 to a place where it would be hard to get to the power button. Is there any way to add a remote power button?? Any help would be great thanks.

    Hi Ampex351-
Did you by any chance search the forum regarding this subject? I know that this has come up more than once and the most eloquent solution seems to require a small amount of surgery on your Mac in order to install the contacts of a small 12V relay in place of the power button and have that switched from a remote location via the application of 12V.

  • Pxi back plane power

    HI there,
I have a PXI-1044 chassis loaded with varios NI cards, such as arbs, DIO's analogues and data aquasition cards.
I have also designed my own "Passive" PCB that just uses the supply rails on the cPCI P1 connector.
However I find that the -12V rail is not there on my own card.
Is there a power sequencer or device that turns off the rails to cards that doesnt tell the controller that it needs them ?
Can I frig this using MAX or put a wire link on the PCB connector to another pin to get the -12V line enabled ?
This is proving to be a real show stopper !
All other PXI Cards fitted to the rack function correctly !
    Help please !
    John
my real email address is [email protected]

    John,
-12V is supplied to the slots regardless of whether there's a card present or not.  If you're sure that you're looking at the right line, you may have a bad/damaged power supply or backplane.
You should probably check the voltage at the "Remote Inhibit and Voltage Monitoring" connector on the back of the chassis with a DMM.  The pinout is on page 2-9 of the detailed specifications.

  • How to wire remote power switch?

My G5 is under my desk. It's inconvenient to reach the power switch. How can I wire a remote switch that will boot the G5? Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can. If you use a switch that shuts off power completely between the Mac and wall outlet, you would still have to push the power button after restoring the power. And cutting off power completely all the time is not good for the Mac (you would be doing a PMU/SMU reset), and it will drain the PRAM battery more quickly.
You don't want to use sleep mode to avoid the constant daily startups? Then all you need to do is hit any key on the keyboard, or move/click the mouse.
In the old days, Mac keyboards had a power button. Pushing it would power ON the Mac. I just tried an old Mac keyboard with my Power Mac G5 to see if it would still do the power ON function. It does not. I guess Apple expects users to use sleep instead of shutting down all the time.

  • Accessing a SWTICH and DMM cards in a PXI System remotely

    Hi everybody,
I use a PXI system with a NISwitch PXI-2503 and NiDMM PXI-4070. The embedded controller PXI-8176 is running WinXP.
From a client machine I want to access remotely this cards. Via VISA Server it is possible to interact with the Switches using NI's driver NiSwitch. On the ther hand, I did not succeed so far to access remotely the DMM using the driver software NiDMM. I receive always the following error:
"Error -1074135030 occurred at niDMM Initialize.vi
    Possible reason(s):
Error: (Hex 0xBFFA000A) Failure loading driver module."
    My Software Versions are:
    Labview 7.1, VISA 3.1, NI-DAQ 2.10, NiSwitch 2.20, NI-DMM 2.2.1
I have read that there are some incompatibilities between VISA and RDA conc
erning the TCP-IP port, but this problem should be solved in the versions I currently use.
Anybody out there who knows a workaround?
Thanx for any help in advance
Hannes Schmidt, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne

    Hannes,
Unfortunately I don't think anybody here knows of a workaround because the application is not one that anybody has recently tested using NI-DMM. The easiest work around to me would be to use LabVIEWs remote front panels to do the acquisition. The only reason why using this might cause a problem is if you need to save data to file on a remote PC. So the only consideration to work with is to save the file on the host PC and then grab the file saved using FTP or something along those lines. That may be a much easier work around than trying to figure out what is going on with the low level DMM driver call. Hope this helps. Good luck with your application.

  • Do NI have a PXIe Fibre Optic Power Meter to measure loss (attenuation) and output power from a Fibre Optic cable

Hi, I want to be able to measure the loss in a Fibre Optic cable at a wavelength of 650nm, is there any PXIe cards that can perform this function
    Thanks

    Hi Paul_byrne,
There is no specific NI PXIe card which measures the power output of optical fibres. However the task can be accomplished using an Optical Sensor and a DAQ Board. Here is a white paper which provides an example of the hardware components and setup:
