PXIe 1073 Power On Start

Hello.,
I have a PXIe 1073   system
I want to start it automatically when there the Mains  Power is connected.
any clues !!

Dear aparab,
as far as I understand your inquiry, you'd like to boot a pxi controller without pressing the on-switch. The PXI chassis has three different methods on how to power on: Wake-On-LAN, an inbuilt switch and a BIOS setting. Details you can find in the following article.

Is there any way to set how the PXIe-1073 behave when AC power is restored after AC power loss?
I want the PXIe-1073 to power on after AX power loss.
I'm using the PXIe-1073 in a long time test system (1000h) and it must start-up automatically after a power loss.

    Hi,
The NI PXIe-1073 is lacking support of remote power control. For high priority applications or long time test systems I recommend upgrading to one of the supported chassis.
When on a supported chassi, this Knowledge Base provides some more details and other related features of PXI and PXIe chassis: Remote Power of a PXI Chassis

  • PXIe-1073 sytem not detected

I connected a PXIe-1073 system (PXIe-6363 and PXI-2567 connected) to the PC (running Windows 7) and the PC does not detect the chassis. It started happening when I recently upgraded to LabVIEW 2013 and NI-DAQmx 9.7.5.
I also installed the MXI BIOS compatibility software Ver 1.4, changed the DIP switch1 to ON position on the MXI express card 8361 and rebooted the computer. That did not solve the problem.
Then, I upgraded to PXI Platform services 3.2.3 and restarted the computer. I still don't see PXI system recognized in NI MAX. When the computer was restarted, the 8361's MXI card's switch 1 was still in ON position.
Any ideas on how to fix this issue ?
    Thanks

    Hi Matt
    Sorry for delay in replying.
After a lot of uninstallation/installation/repair of different driver versions, i have currently got the following software (see attached pic): NI-DAQmx 9.5.5, Ni PXI platform services 3.2.1.
In the picture, you can  see that all my cards are detected in NI-DAQmx devices as Dev1, Dev2 etc.
My PXIe-1073 is not detected or listed in MAX. I expect to see chassis controller detected and all the cards listed under the chassis controller as "PXI2slot2" device or "PXI2slot4" device etc.
The attached pic shows NI-MAX and device manager snap shot.
    Please advise.
    Thanks

  • PXIe-1073 not detected

I'm trying to install a PXIe-1073 chassis on a new Dell system running Windows 7 x64.  I have the latest version of Labview, NI-DAQmx, etc.  The PCI express controller shows as properly installed in the Device Manager ("PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge").  The chassis and installed DAQ card are not detected in MAX.
I am actually transferring this system from an older computer.  I recall having exactly the same problem before, and I'm fairly certain I solved it by installing the "MXI-Express BIOS Compatability Software".  There was never any way to actually identify the "PXI System" as anything other than "External PC" even when it was working properly.
After installing the current version of the MXI-Express software, I rebooted and was able to load MAX briefly before Windows BSODed with an error involving "niraptrk.dll".  This proceeded to occur every time I tried to load Windows.  I was able to start in safe mode, but attempting to uninstall any NI software gave me an "error 1601".  I was finally able to load the last known good configuration and uninstall the software.
When I checked MAX again, the chassis was still unrecognized, but there were multiple broken entries for the DAQ card installed in it, so I assume it was detected at some point.  It looks like the MXI-Express software worked, but it's obviously unusable if it causes the computer to BSOD every time Windows starts.  Why is the computer unable to recognize the chassis without it?  What else can I do to solve the problem?

    Hello Bob_mcbob,
After looking over this issue, I think we have a problem with the Windows installer on your machine. I have found a KnowledgeBase about the Error 1601 stating that this is a Microsoft Windows installer error and that the installer will need to be reinstalled. The Knowledgebase explains how to do this.
As for the BSOD, do you have any more information that it provided when this occurred like the address line, etc? Did you do something in MAX before it crashed?
Since accessing MAX now gives you a BSOD, I think it would be best to uninstall/reinstall the drivers to fix the issue. What cards do you have in this system?

  • Can i use PXIe-1073 with an embedded PXIe controller PXIe-8108

I have a PXI express chassis PXIe-1073 with an integrated controller MXI-Express controller PCIe-8361. I now want to use the chassis as a standalone system with an embedded controller.
    (a)Can i use PXIe-1073 chassis with PXIe-8108 embedded controller
(b)Can i use a windows based laptop to control the PXIe-1073 via the PCIe-8361 integrated controller.

    Hello kanad,
The PXIe-1073 is a MXI-integrate chassis.  This means that the MXI card that would normally go into the controller slot (slot 1) is built into the chassis.  The PCIe-8361 or Expresscard8360 are placed into the desktop or laptop, respectively, and connect to the chassis.  The cards in the PXIe-1073 then appear as if they are part of the desktop of laptop.
Since the controller is built into the chassis, the PXIe-1073 does not have a slot 1.  Controllers, such as the 8108 can only be plugged into slot 1.  Therefore, the PXIe-1073 can only be controlled by the desktop or laptop MXI link.  It cannot run standalone with an embedded controller.
Consider reading page 1-3 and 1-6 in the manual below:

  • How to determine what card is in what slot of a PXIe-1073 unit programmable

How can i programmable determine what card is in what slot of a PXIe-1073 unit I have a PXI-4063 and a PXI-2503 in a 1073 chassis. I use the DAQmx Device Product Type to to find the 2503 matrix card but it woun't return the 4065 product type.

    Hi cjp1,
The KnowledgeBase article Programmtic PXI Slot Detection walks you through the steps to do this. There is also a community example called Read PXI an PXIe Card Serial Numbers Programatically that demonstrates the type of LabVIEW architecture you can use to do it.
You should first ensure that all of your modules can be identified and self-test in MAX.

  • Launching Labview as Power User starts installer

I installed Labview 6.1 as admin on a Windows XP SP1 machine. I gave 'everyone' full control to C:\Program Files\National Instruments.
Labview launches fine when I log in as an admin.
When Labview is started when logged in with a Power User account, it launches Windows Installer and starts to give error messages it can not find the required package.
When I make sure the LV CD is in the PC at that time, Labview does not give these errors, but starts to install something (doesn't say what). However, each time LV is launched: same installer messages.
How do I get rid of these messages? It speaks for itself I can not leave the CD in the CD drive.
    Thanks,
    David.

    Hello,
I have the same problem with LabView 7.1 under Windows 2000!!!! I installed LabView 7.1 with admin-rights and every time a power user starts LabView, it trys to install something and says "Please reboot ....." After the reboot nothing has changed. The power user has to click "no" about 10 times to prevent LabView from rebooting. After that it runs fine.
Another problem occurs when the power user trys to restart or shut down the system. This takes about 3 minutes! I figured out that there is a LabView-task appearing and disappearing every 10 sec. in the task-manager during this ~3 minute period preventing the computer from shutting down (sounds strange?! - yes it is). I tried the previous hints about reconfiguring the windows-installer settings but nothing has changed!
    Anyone has an idea???
    Thanks

  • PXIe 1073 Input Grounding

    Hello,
I was wondering how the grounds from the hybrid slots of a PXIe 1073 chassis are connected within the chassis. I'm using 3 PXI 6255 cards, though I don't believe that makes a difference. What I'm looking for is whether they are tied together or not, or similar information. Thank you.

Yeah, I discovered that not long ago.  Every ground on DAQ cards are tied to the chassis ground.  It is just that each type of ground (DGND, AGND) have their own planes on the card itself.  And chassis ground will be going to Earth Ground, in case that matters to you.

  • When my desktop (Mac Power 5) starts a folder comes up with 2 heads which changes to a question mark. Does anyone know how to fix this.?

My Husband turned his desktop off without shutting down now When my desktop (Mac Power G5) starts up  a folder comes up with 2 heads which changes to a question mark. Does anyone know how to fix this.?

Step 1- Try booting to Startup Manager by holding Option/Alt key.
Select the boot source and click the right arrow.
Once booted, open System Preferences and select the desired boot volume.
Replacing the PRAM battery is likely wise if the machine keeps forgetting it's boot source.
    If that doesn't work,
Step 2-  Boot holding a mouse click, insert the OS X install disc and hold C to boot to the install disc.
Once booted, open Disk Utility and "Repair Disk" on the boot drive.
    Once done, reboot normally.

  • Question about "Power On Start Test"

Hi... I have owned TWO MacBook Pro's, one built back in 2006 and a newer one built in 2009 (both 17 inch)... On either one of them, on say about every 20th or so "pressing of the power key" to start the machine, rather than hearing the mac startup chime and see the screen light up within a few seconds, instead there is no chime and the screen stays black for a long time, maybe up to 30 seconds... Then the chime sounds and the screen comes to life.
If it's quiet in the room when this event (or non-event) happens I can usually hear the quiet sounds you hear when the machine is starting, a bit of clicking and perhaps the sound of the hard drive starting up (??, never been sure what those sounds are other than to say they are "normal"). But you don't hear the chime and nor does the screen light up until some time significantly later...
It's been my belief though not my knowledge that when this happens, again maybe one in every 20 or so starts, that it is the Power on Start Test that is, for some reason, not completing quickly but instead taking some time for whatever reason... If I'm patient, eventually, like in maybe up to 30 seconds, I then hear the chime and away it goes...
Again, this occurs on not one but two different MacBook Pro's and it's done it on both of them at what I would guess would be this same 5% rate since both were new... And over all versions of operating systems that those two machines have seen... So it does NOT appear to be anything tied to something faulty in the individual computer unless I just go so unlucky as to buy two machines 3 years apart that both came with the same problem (unlikely)... I also have an older G4 desktop at home and I have a G5 desktop at work... I've never noticed this on either of those machines so this would perhaps appear to be laptop related????
But as I peruse around and look for other folks who describe such an issue, I don't find much... So, I decided to post this question...
Can anyone offer insight into what might be going on??? Is it a problem??? Might it be hardware, software, what??? Any feedback would be much appreciated...
    thanks... bob..

  • Pxie-1073 trigger

Can the PXIe-1073 drive/monitor the PXI trigger lines?

    Hello Robert,
I have not seen any software that can monitor and display the information of the PXI Trigger Bus that is in the backplane of the PXI. A workaround is using an external card that can be used to export this lines to the front panel of the PXI. Some of the cards that can help with this are the 6652 or the 6653 timing and synchronization cards.
On the following link you should be able to see an example on how to export a Trigger to a PFI line:

  • PXI 4130 Power SMU Output

Hi, I am trying to get my head around how the PXI 4130 works. I have a solenoid valve that I am trying to actuate with the utility channel of the 4130. It says that the utility channel can source 6V and 1A. The solenoid valve requires 6V, but the coil in the valve says it is a 12 Watt rated coil. Since amps = watt/voltage, the solenoid valve should draw 2A (12/6). But does that mean that the 4130 will not let out 2A and will only let out 1A? If I am supplying 6V will it not automatically just output 2A by the law V = IR??

Your understanding is correct.  The 6V Utility Channel (Channel 0) can only output 1A maximum on the PXI-4130 SMU.
If your load tries to draw more than the current limit (user programmable up to 1A on Channel 0), then the SMU output will go into "current compliance" which forces the SMU into constant current mode instead of constant voltage mode - as a result, your voltage will drop accordingly until V=IR.  This behavior is often used to protect the device under test connected to the SMU.  ...I might start by testing out the solenoid and seeing if it will actuate at only 1A, but the best solution would be to use an output capable of 2A like Channel 1 on the PXI-4130.
Also, please take note that heavily inductive loads can occasionally cause issues with the control loops on power supplies on SMUs:
    http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/370736F-01/ni_dc_power_supplies_help/4130_source_stability/
NI has recently developed some cool technology on newer SMUs that helps manage control loops under reactive loads:
    http://www.ni.com/white-paper/13093/en/
For both points above, I might recommend to monitor what happens to the 4130 output as you actuate the solenoid the first time - either using the on-board voltage and current measurements of the 4130 (can read at up to 3kHz) or with an external scope on the voltage.

HP Pavilion Elite e9280t Desktop PC, Windows 7 Pro.  When powered on (using the power switch), the blue power light and amber hard drive lights on the front illuminate, but monitor shows no signal and the keyboard lights do not come on.  F10 on the keyboard doesn't bring anything up on the screen either.  Sounds like there is hard drive activity, but the amber light does not flash.  If I put a bootable dvd in the drive, it appears to read the dvd, but does not boot from it (nothing appears on the monitor.)  Monitor, keyboard and mouse have been verified operational.  Hard drive data appears to be intact and have verified 12v and 5v operational from power supply.  Haven't found a place to verify 3v power.  Depressing the power switch does not turn the computer off, only way is to unplug the power cord.  This sympton happened a couple of weeks ago, but after several power cycles, it booted fine and worked for a while.  Not this time, though.
