Q about compatibility between Canon printers and OS X

I am planing on buying a canon printer, MP600R, which states under sys requirements that OSX is supported. I happened to call to one of those on-line warehouses and spoke to the Mac department where the sales guy said that they don't recommend Canon printers for Mac or that Canon doesn't support Mac.
Even though I mentioned that on the Canon site they state that Mac is supported (for this model) he sounded very doubtful. Is this a load of cr@p?
The company sells Canon printers, but probably mainly to PC users, so it's not that he wanted to sell his own brand.
Any opinions out there? Because I'd like to give Canon a go after not being happy with my previous Epson home printer.
Thanks.

Hello Petter,
Just to let you know that I print to an MP600R in the office (mainly to print on DVD's) from my MacBook Pro and it works fine. It is connected to the network and those of us with Mac's (both PPC and Intel) have no trouble.
FYI - The R indicates that it is a network capable model. As Greg said, get a USB only model and you will have some trouble if you are planning on connecting it to a network, especially one where you are sharing the printer from a Windows box.

Paul

    I like ti known about compatibility between Windows 8 and iTunes

    It works for some and not for others.
    At this time, there is no publicly available version of iTunes that is supported on Windows 8.
    Only Apple knows when that will change.

  • Compatibility between Java crypto and open ssl

    Hello
    I have some question about compatibility between java crypto and openssl library.
    This is my case:
    1.I created DESede key and stored it to file:
    SecretKey key = KeyGenerator.getInstance("TripleDES").generateKey();
    File f = new File("c:\\key.dat");
    DataOutputStream dos =new DataOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(f));
    dos.write(key.getEncoded());
    dos3.close();2.I encrypt some file "c:\\normal.dat" through:
    ecipher.init(Cipher.ENCRYPT_MODE, key2);
      byte[] enc = ecipher.doFinal(normalData);
      File f2 = new File("c:\\enc.dat");
      DataOutputStream dos =new DataOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(f2));
      dos.write(enc);
      dos.close();

    You have carefully left out some critical java code, namely the Cipher.getInstance() method. You'll notice in the documentation for this method that there 3 components to the "transform" argument of this method, the algorithm, the mode, and the padding. All of these must match exactly with the what openssl is using. Furthermore, if you are using one of the modes which require an IV, like CBC mode, then this must match exactly too. If you don't explicitly specify some of these parameters, you might get default values supplied. It is up to you to find out what these are.

  • About incompatibility between Solaris 10 and Solaris 8

    Dear all
    I am investigating about incompatibility between Solaris 10 and Solaris 8.
    But I can't find incompatibility information (I can find some compatibility imformation).
    Please tell me about that if you know.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Programs running on Solaris 8 should run on Solaris 10, but programs that run on Solaris 10 won't necessarily run on Solaris 8.
    Solaris is always forward-compatible.

  • Compatibility between 32 bit and 64 bit of TimesTen

    Hi All,
    Please tell me is there any document avialable to see compatibility between 32 bit and 64 bit of TimesTen ?
    Regards
    Pratheej

    Hi Pratheej,
    1. You cannot replicate between 32 and 64 bit TimesTen.
    2. For direct mode connections, the application must be the same 'bittedness' as TimesTen 932-bit app -> 32-bit TT, 64-bit app to 64-bit TT).
    3. For client/server connections a 32-bit app can work with both 32 and 64 bit TT. A 64-bit app can only use 64-bit TT.
    If you want to deploy a 32-bit app using 64-bit TT on the same machine we have an optimised shared memory client/server connection (shmipc) mode. This is much faster than TCP or Unix sockets but is still much slower than direct mode.

  • Have you fixed the compatibility with HP printers and Symantec yet for the latest Firefox? I am waiting before installing.

    You told me to install the 3.7 version in April. It messed up both my printer and my Norton security. I downgraded successfully. I am waiting to hear that HP printers and Symantec are now compatible. You said this was their responsibility, but it is your responsibility to inform us when you have become compatible with the most common devices, security and other programs. How else would we find out except by bombing our computers by upgrading you?

    It seems like Symantec has.Hope this helps-

  • Connection key compatibility between Contribute 3 and 4

    Does anyone know whether Contribute connection keys are
    compatible between versions 3 and 4?
    Can I create a connection key in Contribute 3 for a version 4
    client or vice versa?
    At the moment, I have several customers who may be on
    different versions of Contribute and want me to handle the
    connection key side of things, so I need to ensure that the keys I
    create will work in either version.

    For windows users can you create a connection key in Windows machine and send the same.

  • Export/import compatibility between 2.0 and 2.2

    If I upgrade my development environment to Apex 2.2 whenever it is released, can I export apps/pages from there and import into a Apex 2.0 environment?
    Both export files have the following in them.
    -- This date identifies the minimum HTML DB version required to import this file.
    wwv_flow_api.set_version(p_version_yyyy_mm_dd=>'2005.05.01');So I guess the answer is yes, but I don't want to make any assumptions that would prevent me from deploying new/changed functionality into my existing 2.0 Production environment.
    Can someone from Oracle comment on this?
    Thanks

    Vikas,
    Yes, in most cases that will work just fine. There are two options on the application export page that would make it so you can't import your application in APEX 2.0, "Export Deployment Attributes" and "Export Comments". Selecting either of those will include metadata in the export which wasn't around in 2.0, so they affect the import compatibility.
    Otherwise, apps and pages should be compatible with 2.0.

  • Compatibility between Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 5 on a Mac

    Hi,
    A beginners question:
    I am about to buy a Canon EOS 1200D Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens. I am currently trying out Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5. I have Ps CS4 and I am thinking of buying Lr 5 in the future after the trial and I want to work with RAW photographs in the main.
    Are there any compatibility issues that I should know about with the software versions I have/might buy and the RAW images taken by this model of camera? I need to have the answer(s) to this question before I buy the camera and the correct software.
    For your information, I intend using a late 2013 MacBook Pro with a retina screen and 16 Gig RAM.
    Many thanks,
    David
    (Brighton, UK)

    The EOS 1200D was first supported in Camera Raw 8.4 and Lightroom 5.4
    Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw 8.4 is only compatible with Photoshop CS6 and newer
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
    So you'll be fine with Lightroom 5.4 or later.
    However PS CS4 is not compatible with Camera Raw 8.4 and never will be. So you'll either have to upgrade to CS6 or join the Cloud.
    Or you can use the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all EOS 1200D Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS4

  • Compatibility between version 8 and 9

    We have a new Windows 7 Professional 64bit machine arriving soon, on which we want to install Framemaker and Creative Suite Design Standard 4.
    Design Standard looks fine - it will be the same version so I assume there will be no issues, Framemaker on the other hand looks like it could potentially cause some issues.
    We have 3 people using Framemaker 8 on Windows Vista Business, I'm assuming that for full Windows 7 support we should purchase Framemaker 9, however, having had a combination of CS3 and CS4 working together before I know that different versions can cause major headaches for our design team - in the case of CS it involved importing and exporting files and caused all sorts of problems. We've all on CS4 now.
    So, are there any compatibility issues between 8 and 9, and is 9 the version to go for if using Windows 7?
    I searched the site for quite a while (and other random Google hits) but I couldn't find anything conclusive.
    Thanks in advance!

    I have had no problems moving from 8 on Windows XP Pro to 9 on Windows 7
    64 Professional nor in interoperating
    with CS4. But my files may be much smaller than yours.

  • Compatibility between windows 8 and apple networks?

    Hi,
    I have a apple network set up at my parent's house that has worked marvelously for the past years. THe network has a time capsule and two airport express. Unfortunately not everyone at my house is an apple user, and my stepdad just got a new HP laptop with Windows 8 and it doesn't seem to be connecting properly to the wifi network.
    ANy idea why this is? is it a problem with the firmware? windows 8? the airports? the time capsule?
    Thanks!

    Windows does not handle the names that apple tends to default to.. so make sure all names are..
    short.. 10-20 characters
    no spaces.. they are not valid in windows networking
    pure alphanumeric.. the apple default is to use apostrophe.. not at all liked by windows.
    That unfortunately means a full reset of the whole system if it is non-compliant.
    A different solution is to simply buy a cheap wireless router.. say TP-Link WDR3600, which is about $80 here.. and probably cheaper in US.. or even cheaper model, like 1043ND.. which is about $50 and run it as AP only plugged into the TC by ethernet.

  • PDF file compatibility between LiveCycle ES and Adobe Document Server V6.0

    We currently are using Adobe PDF Generator V7.0 and Adobe Document Server V6.0. We generate PDF files (using PDF generator V7.0) from office documents and then add a coversheet, to the generated PDF, and fill some form data using the Adobe Document Server. Now we are upgrading to Office 2007 and for this we will need Adobe LiveCycle ES PDF Generator for PDF conversions. If we move to LiveCycle ES can we still use Adobe Document Server for merging PDF's, and filling form Data? i.e Is the PDF file generated by LiveCycle ES compatible with Adobe Document Server?? Will there be any problems with this combination?
    We could as well use LiveCycle ES Document Output for merging PDF files and fill form data with LiveCycle ES Forms. We do'nt want to do this as this would mean we need to by additional licenses of the product. The functionality that could be carried out by Adobe Document Server alone requires two seperate LiveCycle ES products to be purchased.
    - Ragha

    Doc Server was replaced by Assembler so you would migrate to that and not Output. The Assembler is part of the foundation so I am not sure how it is priced when buying PDF/G. You need to speak to your sales rep about this.
