Q about Flex and Flash video

Hi -
Looking for advice from more experienced Flex users here.
I am completely new to Flex, and am curious if its the right
tool for something I'd like to accomplish. Any feedback is welcome.
The goal is to create a video template page and we want the
ability to pass sources to this template. Basically, we do a lot of
online training, and want to have one page where any video can
play, regardless of how many videos could be linked to it. We were
wondering if Flex might provide a sleek way of accomplishing that.
I have downloaded the source for a Flex video player (
http://www.fxcomponents.com/flex-video-player/)
and was hoping to use this or something similar to implement. Is
Flex a good tool for what we are trying to achieve?

Sure. You could have any number of links to videos that when
clicked open the video in the video viewer.

  • Im confused about Flex and Flash?

flex uses Actionscript to develop internet application.
Flash also uses Actionscript to do that. now why i should use
Flex if both using the same language.
is it because Flex has more class libraries ?
when a company or someone asks me why we need to use Flex
instead of Flash , what is the answer for that ?
    thanks

    IMHO I would say:
Flex is programmers approach to develop apps while
    Flash is designers approach .
I cant stand programing and dealing with timeline at the
same time so for me Flex is the way to go.

  • Websites not loading correctly and flash videos not playing

When I visit sites like '''ign.com''' and '''joystiq.com''', they do not display correctly and Flash videos never load. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled twice to version 9.0.1 with no change. The second time I used Revo Uninstaller Pro to help make sure I got rid of all registry entries and residual files. Does anyone know if this is a recent bug? This started for me about noon yesterday...

Not loading correctly in what way?

  • When new firefox kicked in I lost some of my apps on my tool bar how do i get them back? I lost ani weather, ant video downloader, and flash video downloader.

when the new fire fox change kicked in I lost some of my add on apps such as ani weather, ant video down loader, and flash & video down loader, how do I get them back? I tried reinstalling them but they don't show up in the tool bar.

    Hi,
I'm assuming all of your extensions were on the Add-on Bar. The Add-on Bar has been removed in Firefox 29[1] but you can get it back easily using an extension[2]

  • Dynamic slideshow with pictures and Flash Video

I want to make a dynamic slideshow that shall include both
pictures and Flash Video. The user shall only have to put the files
(images/video) into a folder (for example with FTP or an
admin-utility) and then the Flash slideshow should present theese
pictures and video-files randomly. Is this possbile?
I know it is possible with pictures, but can you also include
    Flash Video into this scenario?

yes you can, you can load '.SWF' files in or you can use the
    vidplayer to play '.FLVs'

  • Scenario of such a Application where  Flex and Flash combination is used

    Hi ,
I am seeing this a lot in Job portals where the companys are asking for the combination of Flash and Flex .
Can anybody please let me know where exactly a combination of such would be required generally .(Means i need a scenario of such a Application where in Flex is used with Flash )
Please help , thanks in advance .

    Hi Kiran,
Basically flex is invented for developing rich internet applications and adobe introduced flash concepts in flex and flex will run on flashplayer.. so indirectly u are working on flash environment... any u are asking for the perticular scenario...
Take one example i.e u have an application that is displaying several photos slide by slide in ur website. (  with some animations and other effects that are not available in flex).. at that time u can go for flash developing.. u need to develop that in flash and import that into ur flex application
visit ur Tour the flex web and there in flex4 we have some realtime scenarios where adobe already developed a dashbord to display the world map and the density of adobe site users.. they are using ibm ilogix for dashbord..they developed this components in flash and they have used that component in flex ...we dont have some animations that are available in flash and also u can develop some components in flash and import them into ur flex application as swc format.and u can use them in ur application
i think u got my point... for this u want have glance please go through the link below
                   http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/tourdeflex/web/
there u have some dash board applications developed in flex and flash.. check it out ..

  • Disappearing page and flash video in iweb????????

Hello Everyone! I have a question --- Is it at all possible to have a blank black page appear when i go to my website and have a flash video play on it, then when it is done playing have it disappear and have the main page showing with the links on it to go to the different pages of my website? If so, how do i go about it?

    Hello MacAVUser08,
You can have your page load up with the Flash video, for sure. You just have to have your Flash video living on a server that supports .swf files.
    This explanation should help -
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Movies.html
Now, in terms of your Flash movie going away, and having the other page with the links appear on it...??
Yyyeeeaaahhhh...... I am not exactly sure how. More than likely, there is some either Java script code, or HTML code out there that can handle this. The issue you may run in to is that you are dealing with a Flash file - to begin with. You may run into compatibility issues. Just a head's up.
When your Flash file finishes, you could have a link pop up (either within the Flash file itself, or right below it, as an HTML hyperlink), that will direct you to the page that you wish. This, I know, for sure will work. The other has not only a greater learning curve to it, but is more shaky.
    All the best!
    Sincerely,
    Daniel Louis Rappaport

  • Video glitch in Exported QT and Flash video pieces

Hello, I am having a strange problem with my playback of exported videos. Currently I am exporting out video for website use both Highband and Lowband. For my highband I export out video using quicktime conversion. In QT conversion I use Flix Flash FLV Export which I bought extra to be able to make flash videos. For my lowband videos I use QT conversion and H.264 format. The videos that I export have a weird glitch in both High and Low bandwidth attempts and at the same spots in the video. What happens is the video jumps backward a frame or two and the audio is all off from there on. Well any help with this would be much appreciated. Thank you.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   FCP HD

The videos that I export have a weird glitch in both High and Low bandwidth attempts and at the same spots in the video. What happens is the video jumps backward a frame or two and the audio is all off from there on
Have you looked at those spots in the original project timeline to verify that there is nothing strange going on at the trouble spots? Is there anything "different" about either your audio or video files in those spots?
eg. are all the audio files in your project 48Khz?
If you export a simple QT movie with no compression or conversions do you get the same problem? If not, then try using that export as your "master" and convert/compress it to what you need.

  • Flex and Flash LocalConnection

Im currently working on an interface that is flex based and
has a flash menu. Im not sure if LocalConnection is the best way to
communicate through the two... but thats what I used.
Currently the user clicks a menu button and LocalConnection
sends a string to the flex.. the flex loads a .swf based on that
string. My problem is I want the user to be able to have multiple
windows open, when the user opens more then one window theres a
error stating the connection is already open. It also displays any
menu clicks done in the second window into the first window.
Example: You press the contact us button in the second window... it
goes to the contact us page... in the first window.
Does anyone know is there any way around this?
    Thanks in advance

Adobe released Flex 4.0 (code named Gumbo) and  Flex 4 development environment is called Adobe Flash Builder, formerly known as Adobe Flex Builder.
so don't confuse in flex builder and flash builder..they are just different versions of the same thing.
You can read more about it in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Flex .
and of course you can create a flex application on flash builder.
    Hope it helps...

  • Editable regions and flash videos

Okay so im creating a new website and I have already got
stuck with something. The problem is rather annoying, I could first
easily insert flash videos to my website before I turned it into a
template, but I have now turned my pages into a template as im
creating a site with lots of videos on different pages. Thing is, I
have an 'editable region' in the middle section, and because of
that I cannot add videos to either my template file (.DWT) or my
other html files. It says I need to change code in the original
template to continue. Please help and thanks for reading!

    > It
    > says I need to change code in the original template to
    continue.
    url to the page please??
tip: if inserting into a locked area of the template, if it's
    dw 8.03 or
CS3, you need to insert the flash with a site root relative
    path, so that
the paths come out right in the child pages.

  • 10.7.4 update causes YouTube and Flash video Errors?

Since updating to 10.7.4 yesterday, I've noticed that YouTube and other online Flash videos stutter, stop and continue playing, or pause frequently. Has anyone else noticed this bug? I'm using the newest version of Chrome but tried Safari as well and noticed the same kind of bug. If anyone has a fix it would be greatly appreciated.

File a bug report with Apple.

  • Qmaster and Flash Video Encoder 8

Can I use Qmaster to set up a render farm to encode Quicktime movies to FLVs using Flash Video Encoder? If so, does anyone know where i can find the command lines samples to se up the Macs?

Pages 18 and 29 should be helpful.
However, it might just be easier to encode to H.264.

Copy from code view and paste into code view. Make sure that
    you move *all*
of the required code. That means, create a clean page. Look
    at the code.
Add the Flash to it. Look at the code again. Move the bits
    that were added
from the dummy page to the child page.

  • Question--Dreamweaver and FLASH Video

I have looked at tons of forums now and still see no solution for the problem many of us are having. I've loaded a flash video using dreamweaver cs4 and it won't show up. I've gotten the white box syndrome too. I sure wish someone could figure it out...I've consulted three "experts" including someone on the phone at adobe. My flash file is very big...193 MB, but can't it be done?

  • Simple question about flex and AS 3.0

Hi, this might sound like a simple question so I apologize...
I have both a copy of flex 2 and 3, and i want to simply code in AS
3.0 not mxml. I referred to the help of both flex 2 and 3, and all
i could come up with is "you can add dynamic behavior to your
documents using actionscript", which means to me, you only write
your functions in AS and create instances with mxml (...ugh).
personally, i find mxml to be ugly (mainly because it looks like
html to me), and i'd rather not use it. coming from programming in
an IDE in Java, it seems like it would be nicer to have something
similar, all the while having the power and cool features of flash.
I'm not fully educated in this matter so i understand that i could
    be totally wrong.
i mean, if i have to code in mxml, i will. i'm a web
programmer for a living, and if a more experience programmer said
something like "if you don't code mxml in flex, you'll never get a
job coding in flex", i would trust the advice, and learn the ugly
    code. :)
yes, i do have Flash cs3, it's great but it seems like a pain
to me the way you organize classes.... i've only seen a few
tutorials, ones that explain how you cannot simply import a custom
class, you have tell your movie to link to it, put it in the same
directory, or manually name the package, it's sort of confusing.
my main point here is that i'm very eager to start building
apps in straight AS 3.0 instead of using flash cs3 (for some
projects), and it would be cool to get some help or be pointed in
    the right direction.
    to simplify:
can i write AS 3.0 and only as 3.0 in flex 2 or 3? how? can
you link me to a tutorial? any advise?
    thanks!

Hey William, thanks for the post. It's a great coincidence
because I'm reading that book as well. I'm about half way through
it, and I love it. I installed mxmlc on my linux box and am writing
pure AS 3 apps. I think that's the way to go, though I know it's
    not for everybody.
My problem with mxml is that it has a weird syntax for
function calls, and it's not as 'intuitive' for a person like me,
who came from C++ and Java programming in the past. I like writing
programs in the C++ and Java style syntax, and since so many other
languages use a similar syntax, I don't see any reason to learn the
nuances of mxml, unless I was getting paid to do it. As far as I
can tell there is no benefit.
I hate using Flash to write flash apps as well, I feel like
they become messy and confusing, especially when trying to write an
OOP application. I only use it if I want to move an object in a
very specific way and can't do it with the Tween methods.
