Q about Power useage meter in Logic 8...

Next to the meter for load useage there's HD & CPU marked . Whats the difference seens they show different levels? Which one is more important? cus I'm afraid i'm going to run out of power.

CPU meter shows how much of the CPU('s) Logic uses. Top meter.
HD meter shows how much reading/writing activity is going on on the HD. If you play back lots of audio files or samples you will see this meter peaking. Bottom meter.
To alleviate CPU-pressure Freeze tracks.
Also try to get a feel for which plugins need lots of CPU and which do not. Examples: Sculpture and SpaceDesigner are two heavy plugins that need a fair amount of CPU. EXS24 and *Channel EQ* are plugins that use less CPU. A good but economical Reverb is AUMatrixReverb.
By doubleclicking on it in the Transport you get a separate small floating window with both meters.
regards, Erik.

eBay or Craigslist would be the only choice.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Need Info to repair broken power switch connector on logic board

    Hi folks,
I had some bad luck this week. The power switch connector broke off my daughter's Ibook logic board during a HD upgrade attempt. Unfortunately, it pulled enough of the etch that I can't determine where the connections use to go.
I would like to salvage the board. So, if anyone has access to a schematic for the G3 Ibook, 14" 900Mz logic board, I would appreciate some info about the circuit. Specifically, to what components does the switch connect. I already identified one side is grounded and the other side is pulled up to 3V through a 1K resistor, but that etch also went somewhere else. I suppose the gate of a FET transistor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Perhaps someone with a dead logic board could trace the circuit with an ohm meter.
    Regards,
    Spencer

    Hi spencer,
Apple doesn't make circuit diagrams available, sorry. I've done or had done component level repairs of iBook logic boards before, usually to re-attach connectors which have come off, but unlike yours, these ones have all come off leaving the trace on the board.
The fact the traces have come off isn't good, as you can probably tell. It's also a 4 layer board, so where the vias go is important. I have a couple of dead logic boards from 500,600 and 700mhz iBooks. The 14 inch logic boards are essentially the same as the 12 inch ones. These pictures are of the area of a 700mhz logic board.

  • HD Meter on Logic transport spikes into the red

I notice that whenever I am mastering a track within Logic in bounce mode the "HD" meter sporadically spikes into the red. Although most of the time there are no audible effects a while back I started getting static when the HD meter was spiking.
I find this odd since I'm not running any other audio tracks or plug ins.
So it only seems to happen during bouncing. I bounce in real time because I read once that you will get better audio quality results if you have a higher grade audio interface vs. using the Mac's internal processor.
Hopefully this doesn't mean something is wrong with my Mac Pro. It's only about a year old.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

The disk meter is responding because you are writing to disk.
Disk writes are buffered, so their will be little packets of activity, rather than one long write. I don't think there is anything to worry about.

  • About the sales texts' updating logic.

    Dear All,
I am a beginner of sap sd module, and I met a problem of sd logic, looking forward to your kindly help.
Please see the logic below in our system:
There is a Sales order which is created referred to the Customer. If we changed the Texts in Sales Area Data in Customer, the Texts in Sales order would be updated automatically.
For example, If we deleted the comment of one text in Customer, the comment of the referred text in Sales order would be deleted automatically.
But the issue is that despite the comment had been deleted, but the icon of the text would not be changed to blank, and the language key would still exist.
Therefore, I want to know whether it is a standard process or can I do some changes of it, such as delete the language key and change the icon to blank?
I have debugged the program and couldn't find any useful information, so I have to resort you guys, any kindly help would be appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Benny

    Thanks for all your reply.
But I had asked some other experts in SD, who said that there are 2 standard process to control this logic. in my case, this updating process is controlled by the Text reference, but I am not sure about it.
The actual situation is that if I deleted the text in the Customer master data, and then, in the sales area data in sales order, the content of the same text(same ID) would also be deleted(This is truely happened), but without deleting the language key and the icon didn't become blank, that is the point what I really care.
and I also checked the configuration in the Text control, found that there is user exit maintained in the column Data transfer routine in the subscreen of the Access sequence for the text ID which I deleted, but I don't know which action would trigger that and whether it has any effect on this logic.
    Please help me.
Any suggestions about this would be appreciated.
    Many thanks.

  • General thread about MBs, Q&A for Logic performance, please add more!!

    Dear all,
How much effect is the integrated graphics card going to have performace-wise with the MacBooks? I have been looking at the black one to replace my PB, or at least I would keep the PB purely for live performance, and have the MB in my mini-studio... Can't wait for the Intel towers for the main studio!! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any idea on the impact of having integrated-graphics on overall performance. Does Logic make much use of this? Obviously for graphic intensive apps, FCS, PS etc, then it will, but for Logic?
I have a feeling that these could be exciting days... Time for a hardware overhaul, and a BlackBook with 2 gigs RAM could well get the ball rolling. I do expect a massive performance increase between the MB and the PB, but obviously I can't try Logic out on a MB in the Apple Store, so will have to rely on technicalities. I hear that it will contend with a dual 2 G5. With an extra screen, the MB could be a serious contender, ignoring the max RAM allowance. Still, 2 gigs in a laptop is pretty good!
Also, what about the keyboard? For me, ergonomics are very important, and my PBs keyboard is second to none. I love it. It looks like a very strange design, but does it work?
Battery life... For live performance, it's very important. Anyone tried running Logic on batteries? I don't connect mine to power supplies at gigs for fear of surges/irregular supply. Much more peace of mind...
And finally... The famous whine. I know this doesn't really belong in this forum, but is anyone getting it? There is no way at all that I could work with that. From what I hear, people who have it get rid of it by unplugging the power. Not an option really for when you're running Logic for 10 hours a day.
Sorry for such a long post, but I guess a lot of people would like to know the answers. Equally, if anyone else has any other questions about the MBs, post them here...
    Best, Fred

The integrated graphics have zero effect on an app like Logic, they don't even make a difference on apps like FCP or photoshop since those are 2d apps and don't use the GPU for acceleration at all.
It only makes a difference on games and some 3d rendering apps.
You'll definitely want to max the ram out if you get one. For perfomance comparisons look at the benchmarks posted to this group, I would assume the MB will perform somewhere between the mini duo and the MBP (probably closer to the latter).

  • How can I get my metronome click to work with 12/8 meter in Logic?

I'm trying to get my KlopGeist click to 12/8 music.
I can get it work with 4/4 and click on divisions set to 12th, but I cannot get truely 12/8.
It's ok to recore, but the notation is different.
Can anyone give me an answer?
    Thank you.

You can try some workaround like this...
Create an Arrange track for the Klopfgeist (instrument 256). Create a new (one bar) region and draw 4 dotted notes using pitch say G5. Select the region and set ins "Loop" parameter to ON in the track inspector. Done.
When you need Click you can Mute/Unmute the Klopfgeist track instead of tweaking the Click button in the Transport.
Another scenario can be done using the Environment click object and building a small Environment tool which can work with the Logic transport click etc.

  • Math power function in script logic

    Hello all!
Can anybody help me how  I can do math "power" function in BPC 5.1 Script Logic?
    Thanks

Let's say you have a source account FOO and you want to calculate FOO to the 5th power, posting the result to FOOFIVE.
In BPC SQL scripting, there are no mathematical functions to play with (powers, roots, sine, cosine, etc.) except for add, subtract, multiply and divide -- plus you can round results in your Factor or Expression. So that means, we must use multiplication.
You could certainly do this using a bunch of intermediate accounts, one each for foo squared, foo cubed, foo to the 4th, and foo to the 5th. That would require *GO in between each *WHEN/REC block, and could be slow.
I haven't tried this, but I think this should work, all in one statement:
    *XDIM_ACCOUNT = FOO
    *WHEN *
    *IS *
    REC(Factor=GET(Account="FOO")GET(Account="FOO")GET(Account="FOO")GET(Account="FOO")*GET(Account="FOO"),Account=FOOFIVE)
    *ENDWHEN
If you want FOO to the 50th power, copy & paste.
If you want square root of FOO, that could be a real challenge. I think to use straight BPC SQL logic it wouldn't be possible. I would probably write a stored procedure using SQL's SQRT(), and call that from the BPC logic file. Likewise for any other geometric functions, complex algebra, etc.
There also may be a way to calculate powers in MDX -- that's more mathematically straightforward -- but as a BPC on MS person, I really never ever use MDX due to performance.
    Regards,
    Tim

  • Anyone in the know please about power..

I think I have worked out what is wrong with my macbook 2.4ghz, regarding it doing hard shut downs etx while plugged in.
I have been gaming on Crysis with it, and it look absolutely fantastic, as my MBP runs natively on high, very impressive.
But i think what happens is that the power adapter provided by apple is not strong enough to supply enough power to the game.
I noticed that if I did not plug it in, it would drain like in maybe 45mins.
BUT if plugged it into the wall, it would still go down, only slower.
Can this be fixed anyone, cause my MBP is running Crysis better than my PC!!!
In other words i cant play for more than an hour - which is so annoying if you have to restart a few times, you get no where.
    ANy help appreciated.
Do i get an aftermarket adapter????

Hey guys, basically I ended up getting a new battery. ANd that seemed to help me for a while. Then it started happening again.
The reason that it was such a hard problem to isolate, it turns out that it actually was the power adapter only charging a little.(which probably also damaged the battery)
As for Crysis running on my machine.. I have a 256mb 2.4ghz Macbook pro.
When I ask the machine to come up with the defaults, it all comes up as high, I run it at about 1440x900 usually as well.
I hope i do not sound like I am being "creative".
This is simply what I am (luckily?) getting, I hope you are to. I though, am running windows XP. Which isnt as taxing as Vista? Also its not running via a window or anything, its a proper boot camp install.
Thank you to everyone who help with this!!!

  • Need advice about Macbook internal HD and Logic Pro

    Hi!
If I use an external Firewire HD for my projects. The Audiofiles gets saved ( recorded ) in the "audio" folder inside the projects folder on the external HD.
Does it have ANY impact on my macbooks ( logic pro's ) performance that the internal HD of the macbook is only a 5400 RPM HD.
Ill try to be silly clear here so u'll understand my question right.
Is the internal Hard disk used in ANY way if the project is on an external HD. Is the internal HD used for playing samples "live" for Ultrabeat, RMX, EXS24 and so on or not or that doesnt matter for performance.
I need to avoid the intern HD so I am wondering what to do. Should I buy a new 7200 RPM HD even if the projects is situated on external HD.
To be uberclear: Macbook, black, intel core duo, 2.0 Ghz, 1 GB intern. 100 Gb 5400 RPM internHd. Logic Pro 7.2.3. External FW HD 7200 RPM. Latest Tiger update.
    / Mikke

yes the internal drive has an impact on performance. this is related to how much RAM you have, but even if you have the max 2GB RAM that you can have in a macbook (or 3GB if they updated it to that like the pros), OSX still uses the system drive for a great deal of swap files. logic does too. it's just the way it all works. back in OS9 days, you may (or may not) remember a thing called virtual memory.. well that hasn't disappeared from OSX as many people think, it's actually built in and always operating under the hood, but it self-manages... there's no need for a user to assign amounts of hard drive for VM, or to assign the memory allocation for applications. OSX does it all by itself, and it does make judicious use of the system drive just to function.
logic also is part of this equation. depending on how you set it up, if some of your exs library is on the system drive (such as the basic library or garage band sounds), then it's possible that logic will access the sys drive at times if you have exs streaming enabled. also, if your freeze files get created on the sys drive, they'll be read from there too.
with all that in mind, the other thing is that the 5400rpm is not really that slow. in fact, if it is a drive that uses the new PMR technology (the 5400s in the latest macbook pro do use this, don't know about the standard macbook), then there have been plenty of tests out there that show it's almost as fast as a 7200rpm longitudinal drive, and under some circumstances, faster.
personally, I ordered a macbook pro with a 7200rpm because I want my system drive to be as zippy as possible for all the fast read/writes that the system does. battery life is not an issue for me as it will always be used in a powered situation. a good review of the 7200rpm drive vs the new PMR 5400s that are the options in the new macbook pros that I read on the net said that the 7200 still does have the slight edge in performance. except, curiously, when the drives are both getting full, at which point they both slow down and the 5400 almost equals the 7200. I wish I could remember the site so I could post the link, it was a laptop review site and they ran their own tests so it wasn't just based on quoted specs.
anyway for me I'm still going to use an external FW800 for audio and sound library, the internal is just for system. I made the choice to go 7200 for the system performance reasons above, but I really don't think you'll be disappointed with the 5400.

  • About Mono/Stereo working with Logic 9

    Hello guys,
I´m new member here... I hope to share here with you great audio experiences.
Sure... i´m new Logic 9 pro user too. So i have no much idea about some things.
As I could see in other discussions, we have great geniuses of the audio here and that's really nice!!!
    So... i have some questions:
    1) When i´m using MONO channels (with vocals or drum elements) and then send these channels to a STEREO group, with reverb, eq, etc... all the things BECOME stereo or they are given only ´´filling´´ stereo as additional ´´space´´?
1-2) About this same question... shoud i send these elements MONO channels to MONO group?
    2) I love to create my own song textures... and to make my kickdrums, i always use MONO channels with appropriate layers audio, such as a layer with the bass/fat part, another layer with the mid and end with the clicks or high part. So i send them all to a MONO group where i equalize and glue everything with tape, compressor, etc... so... To me it´s very good, but someone can tell me if that´s the way?
Please fell free to give your opinions.
    Thank you very much

I'm using the Duet with 10.5.8 and LP9, everything is smooth.

Kia ora, hi i have an older (2003 or 4) iMac G5 Power PC 2GHZ - when i turn it on the screen stays dead but the light below screen comes on & i can hear fan (after a few mins on the fan gets noisy).I think the logic board may be dead & can not afford new one & I would like to recover some files & stuff from it and have heard you can recover stuff using a firewire cable so i got cable (firewire 400 to 800) but i am unsure how exactly to do it.
Can anyone out there please explain how i might do it
    Thankyou very much
ps my first post on mac forums so hope i got it right

You can remove the hard drive from the iMac and put it in an external enclosure.  You could try using Target Disk Mode to transfer data.  Click on the blue link to get the instructions on how to transfer the data.
