Q: Change margin on document (add whitespace)

Hi all,
Newbie here, first post.
I'm using Adobe Acrobat Standard v7.0.0. We have a report created by a 3rd party system that doesn't include any margins, so when we print it to the acrobat printer (ie. create the PDF), the text goes all the way to the edge and then gets truncated when we actually print it.
Is there a way to add margins to the *document* and save those margins with the document? I don't want the text to change with the margin change, but more like "compress" the report to 90% of it's size so there's more whitespace. Also, I know you can set the print properties to fit to the printer margins, but since we might send this out to clients, we'd rather have the document already have the margins set to a specified size.

I did want to add that I do have experience with VBA for Microsoft Access and can use the Acrobat library. So, if a VBA solution exists, that would be useful to me as well.

    Oddly, when one enters text that is a paragraph string longer than the width of the the page, the text doesn't wrap. There seems to be something a bit wonky with the margins, but perhaps it's something else. I fiddled with styles to see if I could control it, but to no avail. I'm giving up and boing back to '09. Each time I think I'll switch to iWork 5, I encounter some other restrictive feature that sends me scurrying back to '09.

    Before we did the upgrade from 4.7 to ECC6.0, on 4.7 approvers were able to make changes to parked documents via their inbox i.e. they would be able to go to change wrong data or add missing account assignments. However after the ECC6.0 upgrade when approvers access documents via their inbox they can only display the documents with only the option to release or reject and without the option to change.
    Could this be a result of changes between 4.7 and ECC6.0 and if so what can we do to allow for approvers to be able to change parked documents via their inbox.

    I found SAP Note 670910 explaining that this was actually a program error which allowed approvers to changed parked documents via workflow.

  • Documents.Add failing in PS CS5.1

    I wrote a program using VB Express 2008 that worked flawlessly until I updated to CS5.1.  I'm stuck as to what could be causing the failure.
    The failing call is:
    docRef = appRef.Documents.Add(PageW, PageH, 300, NewDocName, , 1)  'white
    PageW = 3001,
    PageH = 2475
    NewDocName = Y2013
    docRef is a global variable, and appRef is defineds as:
    appRef = CreateObject("Photoshop.Application") 
    What is real odd, is that I use the same call in another program.  I copied from this one to it, and the other program works fine.
    One other difference, CS3 was 32 bit.  CS5.1 is 64 bit program.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I made this work.  I replaced the variables in the documents.add call with constants that were identical to values in another program that was working.  The call worked.  So I tried walking back the changes until I got back to the original code.  Still works.  Shut everything down, brought it back up in the VB environment, still works.  Tried to run original compilation, failed.
    Apparently any VB for Photoshop that was compiled before I installed CS5.1, 64 bit, fails.  If I recompile it, it works fine.
    Another problem, if I start PS CS5.1 in 32 bit mode, or CS3, the scripts all fail, regardless of whether or not they were compiled before CS5.1 was installed. The error here states that it cannot start the ActiveX module for Photoshop.
    Does anybody know if VB compiled in Win 7 and CS5.1 64 bit will run on a 32 bit Photoshop installation?  If I distribute this program do I need a 32 bit and a 64 bit version?

    Sometimes, I need a multiple page document modified by either eliminating pages, change page sequence, or add a page to it. Does the Adobe Reader XI have an app that can be purchased to do all this?

    Adobe Acrobat is the program you'd use to modify a PDF. Reader is not able to make the changes you mentioned. Acrobat Standard is able to do all of the things you mentioned, as is Acrobat Pro.

  • Problems with changing margins in pdf

    I am new to creating Adobe forms.  We are a law firm and uses ProLaw case management software.  I am starting to create Adobe fillable forms to be imported into ProLaw as fillable forms.  The problem I am having is I cannot change margins in the Adobe form.  I went to Print and Page Setup, but the area to change margins is grayed out, no matter what paper size I choose. 
    Is there a setting our IT people need to change in order for me to be able to change margins in the Adobe document?

    Thanks so much for your reply.  I feel like a fish out of water.  I have gone to the crop tool, and it says to click and select area and then double click to crop.
    My document's left margin is now 1" and I need it at .5.  My right margin is fine at .5.   By cropping the "space" on the left, it will reduce the margin?

    Bummer! The only way I have ever been able to get rid of the dreaded twirling ball was to reboot....with the exception of one time only, when it actually was some super techie issue that was only resolved when they looked at it and did their magic.

    When you add an event and you see the heading "Calendar", do you see a name to the right of it such as "Work"?  If you tap on the heading "Calendar" does it show you a list of calendars?
    I'm basing this on my experience using iCal on a Mac to sync with my iPad.  I created a number of calendars on the Mac and assigned them different colors.  Those appear on my iPad.  I don't know how to create additional calendars on the iPad alone - I must create them in iCal or MobileMe then they show up on the iPad.  Are you using a Mac or MobileMe?

    Yes, I just want to cover up all the pages for those particular area of document numbers.
    Nothing sensitive about it. I just want to show the correct document numbers on all pages in print out.
    So, I wanted to cover up by comments, but commenting on each page will be difficult. So, I wanted to comment the same on all pages.

    There's another way.
    Right or control click the + then click Remove Item.

  • Changing Status of document should start workflow

    Hi WF-experts,
    another issue I have to deal with:
    My WF should start after the status of a document has been changed.
    The process is that the customer creates a document and saves the entries (status is "in process"). Later he wants to have the opportunity to change the sales document. If he sets the status to "for approval" the WF should start (with the approval process).
    First I defined the event "CREATED" as start event but that is not right. I enhanced my business object (BUS200115) with a new event and mentioned that one in the start event tab of my workflow. But it does not work.
    Do I have to define an action profile?
    How can I start my workflow after changing a status of a sales document which was already created?

    Depending on the type of document, you can trigger the event by change of status:

    For example this works for "classic" SAP objects like production orders, document management documents, etc, and is a very nice way to handle it, because you can easily customize your status profile to support your business process.  These status profiles are maintained in the IMG or transaction BS02 (BS22 displays system statuses for objects that use this status type).
    I've noticed that a lot of newer SAP components don't support this though.
    I hope it is helpful, if not in this case maybe in the future.
