Q:  how to highlight PDF created via scanner?

hi:
1. i'm going to assume that this is a very basic question but i can't figure out how to highlight text in a PDF file that i created via flatbed scanner.
2. i have no problem highlighting PDF files that i may have created via the web, but for some unclear reason, when i try to highlight stuff in a PDF file that was created via my scanner, nothing happens.
thanks for any feedback / suggestions. harry

It's very clear. You're trying to highlight text that doesn't exist. It's just a picture of text.
Google OCR or look for the same topic in the Acrobat help files. You "may" be able to convert it to text. Then you can highlight it.

  • How to get installer created via LV project to install executables on a Vista machine which are in admin mode?

    I have an installer for a program created via a LV project which installs two executables.
    On Vista, only one of the executables is in admin mode.  So, I always have to right click
    on the other and select 'run as administrator'.
    Any way of getting both of them set to run as administrator by default?

    Do your executables include a manifest inside them or are you installing a manifest file next to your executables?
    What happens if you just manually copy the executables to your system rather than installing them? Same thing, or different behavior?

  • How to highlight PDFs

    Is there a way to highlight PDFs in iBooks? I have reports I am reading and would like to highlight parts of them. If not what's my other options? Printing would be a lot of paper. So I'm looking for a simpler way to do research and notations on important information for my work. Suggestions please.

    iBooks actually did used to permit the highlighting of text, I remember doing it with PDFs (though getting these off the iPad was difficult). The only time this would not be allowed if it was scanned, so the pages were images. With the latest version of iBooks though it doesn't seem to be possible with anything except iTunes bought e-books.

    Hello,
    There is an alternative PDF reader app in the store, which has the option to share via Bluetooth:

  • Missing rotated text in PDF created via FPDF

    Hi guys,
    I have a weird problem which is preventing some rotated text to be viewed in adobe reader, while every other reader like foxit, google pdf viewer and scrib are doing just fine!
    if you create a flyer using following link
    http://www.erupert.ca/classifieds/create_flyer/ad/32_1306248214
    the generated PDF displays just fine in google document viewer but if I download and open the same in Adobe reader the pull tab text (text rorated 90 degrees) vanish, again the PDF is just fine in foxit reader as well!
    What am I doing wrong, any ideas would be much appriciated.
    Also here is the code to rotate text I'm using by extending the FPDF class
    function Rotate($angle,$x=-1,$y=-1)
    if($x==-1) $x=$this->x;
            if($y==-1) $y=$this->y; //echo "{$this->x} - {$this->y}";die();
            if($angle!=0) $this->_out('Q');
            $angle=$angle;
            if($angle!=0)
    $angle*=M_PI/180;
    $c=cos($angle);
    $s=sin($angle);
    $cx=$x*$this->k;
    $cy=($this->h-$y)*$this->k;
    $this->_out(sprintf('q %.5f %.5f %.5f %.5f %.2f %.2f cm 1 0 0 1 %.2f %.2f cm',$c,$s,-$s,$c,$cx,$cy,-$cx,-$cy));
    OS: Windows Any ( >= XP)
    Adobe version X (latest updates)
    Thanks,
    Anupam

    Hello anupam,
    I know this is a particularly old thread, however i thought i'd post the solution here for others who may have been searching around for a solution to this very same problem and come across this thread.
    As George has correctly stated it is an issue with the unbalanced q and Q operators. I recognise the provided piece of code, it is of course a snippet from a generation class such as FPDF or TCPDF or HTML2PDF, the error occurs when the rotation is not returned to 0 before finalising the document.
    i.e. You would have used something like $pdf -> Rotate(270,60,50) or $this -> Rotate(270,60,50) where 270=the degree of rotation , 60=the x coordinate , 50=the y coordinate.
    Once you've completed writing all your text, lines, images, cells you need to make sure to reset the rotate i.e. $pdf -> Rotate(0) prior to Outputting the pdf to screen or saving it as a file.

  • How to highlight pdf text

    Hello, My Adobe Reader X1 won't allow me to highlight text. Can someone provide me with step by step instructions on how this is done? Could it be my security software that's keeping this command from working, or does this option not work within the free version of Adobe Reader X1? So frustrated!!!.

    Most likely, the file you're trying to work on doesn't have actual text, but an image (probably scanned) of text. If the file hasn't been through an OCR process (in Adobe Acrobat, for example) then you can't use any of the text-related commenting tools on it, since they have nothing to "hang on" to. You can still use the Drawing Markups tools, such as the Rectangle tools, to achieve a similar result.
    To know for sure if that's indeed the issue with your file you can try selecting the text using the selection tool. If you can't select it, it's an image.

  • Acrobat Standard XI - How to edit pdf created and signed with Adobe Standard 6.0 on another computer?

    Hi
    Is this even possible? I cant edit PDF-documents because I cannot remove the signature. Can I transfer digital signature from Adobe Standard 6.0?
    Please help me out
    //Anders

    Acrobat versions prior to 9 had a bug which allowed you to do what you did. In Acrobat 9 this bug was fixed. In order to do what you want you need to certify (apply special certification digital signature with your certificate -- it is "Certify (Visible/Invisible)" choice in the "Work with Certificates") your document first. In the process of certification you can specify which modification permissions you allow the users of your document to make after signing. Certification signature must be the first signature in the document.

  • How do I create a PDF from My scanner?

    The only way Adobe X and XI allow PDF creation is online.  IX allowed multiple options for creating a PDF including from the scanner.  Why has it changed, and how do I create a PDF from the scanner?  If It can't be done on the newer versions, how do I get version 9?
    Thanks,
    David

    I think you may be mixing up Acrobat Professional/Acrobat Standard (which includes creation of PDFs in many ways, including scanning), with Adobe Reader (which does not include PDF creation at all, but can use Adobe's CreatePDF web service).
    I think you used to use Acrobat Professional 9, and so what you need is Acrobat Pro XI.

  • Unable to properly highlight grids created by Illustrator CC saved as .pdf's

    Hello,
    The issue I'm about to explain is a little abstract, and I'll explain it the best I can. Thanks in advance for your patience.
    Here's my Dropbox link to the files: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/73esyo467oisq9z/ToXw207v8X
    In Illustrator CC I have drawn a grid by intersecting lines which has various font characters and some with square blocks inside the grid spaces. When I save this as a .pdf, users in Adobe Reader or Acrobat Pro are unable to select the rows properly, the selection is seemingly random and unpredictable.
    In the link above you'll see two screenshots:
    correct_highlighting.png
    This is a screenshot of the desired highlighting
    This grid (chart) was made in a different program and exported as a .pdf
    incorrect_highlighting.png
    This is a screenshot of undesireable highlighting
    This grid (chart) was made in Illustrator CC and saved as a .pdf
    Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5) with the Illustrator Default preset with no Standards preset
    Other files included:
    test chart creation.aiThe original test drawing used above
    test chart creation.pdfA test .pdf created with the specifications above
    I think the issue has something to do with the grid is created with a series of lines, so perhaps it's nothing like a spreadsheet where the highlighting flow is a set path and predictable. My thought is, how do I go about making the highlighting flow predictable?
    Any help on this would be much appreciated.

    Hi Mike,
    Thanks for your reply.
    The grid (chart) that highlights correctly is created from another program which is no longer viable, and as I need full control over the drawing, creating fields in Acrobat is not an option.
    This grid (chart) created in Illustrator CC will be used in InDesign where ultimately a .pdf is created and viewed by clients in print and on screen (mac, pc, unix, and mobile devices). It's very helpful for users to highlight and mark their place on the chart as they read it to keep their place. Sometimes clients use a 3rd party .pdf reader to accomplish this. Long story short, the program we were creating these charts with is no longer viable, and are now testing Illustrator to create charts which is perfect except for the highlighting flow issue.

  • Creating a pdf from a scanner

    When I use Adobe 9, I can create a pdf from my scanner.  The document use to come in exactly as scanned, such as a letter sized document.  Now, everything I pull from my scanner is coming in as a legal sized paper.  I do not know how to change that.  Also,  I can not find the option to create a pdf from my scanner in Adobe X. Can anyone help me.  I getting complaints from clients.  Thank you.

    A good question to ask at this users' forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/scanning_%26_ocr

    I have purchased Adobe XI Pro and created a form for entering bowling scores to submit to newspaper for my high school team.  I can not figure out how to get pdf's into my documents folder on my iPad so that I can access the files in bowling alleys where I do not have a Wi-Fi connections.  I need to be able access files without going to acrobat.com.  Help!!!@

    Post the PDF files to a web site. The browse to them in Safari on the iPad.  When you Open the files specify the Open to occur in Adobe Reader.  Then you can have/Save them in your Documents folder on the iPad.   An iPad has limited access to files otherwise.

  • How do I save a 2 page pdf (created in Illustrator) to be used in a web site?

    How do I save a 2 page pdf (created in Illustrator) to be used in a web site?
    When I save my Illustrator file as a pdf, it is about 2600 kb, my web site admin will only allow storage of 5000 kb. I tried to "save for the web", but that only saves the first page of my document. Any suggestions other than paying for more storage???

    What pdf preset are you using? Try smallest file size rather than illustrator default.
    Save for web does not do PDF, so no multipage.

  • How to put more than 1200 characters in a text form within a pdf created in Adobe Acrobat

    I need to know how to put more than 1200 characters in a text form within a pdf created in Adobe Acrobat. I have a request from a customer to do so and after googling I have came up with nothing. Also the customer would like it if they could convert said pdf form to a microsoft word document with the text form.

    There's no limit on the number of characters you can enter into a text
    field, unless you set it as such.

    Search for the manual on the european site http://canon-europe.com/ - the versions there (at least for the A1100 IS) do not have the annoying COPY watermark.
