Q: What displays in your synced iCal To-Do List?

I have an 8GB 3rd Gen Nano.
My question pertains to viewing an already synced "To Do" list.
If you wish to know how to sync a "to-do list", please consult Apple's Manual for the 3rd Gen Nano:
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPodnano_3rd_gen_FeaturesGuide.pdf
When I look at the To Do's on the iPod, it displays only the title (aka, Summary) of the list and none of the 'description' information. Currently, my Shopping list of: Apples, Apples, And more Apples, displays only the following:
Summary: Shopping.
The problem should be obvious. (skip to .ics if you're with me)
Apple states in their manual that you can view your "to-do list" (pg. 53).
On my iPod, this is accurate only if you do not consider a list a series of items organized around general theme. For example, on my iPod, you would be mistaken to think that a Shopping list would detail the items one wishes to buy.
On my iPod my Shopping list is Shopping.
An analysis of the relevant .ics file shows the following:
BEGIN:VCALENDAR
VERSION:2.0
CALSCALE:GREGORIAN
PRODID:-//Apple Computer\, Inc//iSync 2.0//EN
X-WR-CALNAME:To do List
X-WR-CALORDER:1
BEGIN:VTODO
DTSTART:20080409
SUMMARY:Shopping
*DESCRIPTION:Apples\nApples\nAnd more Apples* (emp. added)
END:VTODO
END:VCALENDAR
It is clear that my Shopping List (aka Decription) is transfered to my iPod.
Why it is the List (aka Decription) not being displayed?
Is it my iPod?
Is it the software?
What about yours?
Thanks

Thanks for your help.
I guess I was wishing that I might be able to use some project management software (i.e. omni focus) which syncs to ical which would then hopefully sync to email so I could access it on the iphone....
if I have to start in mail I guess that wont work.
Any ideas on if/when apple will let groups like omni produce software for the iphone so something like omnifocus would be synced?

  • Syncing iCal To-do list with iPod touch

I can't figure out why my to-do list in ical won't sync with my ipod touch. I am new to the world of imac's and apple, but what am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

Maybe M3dik knows something I do not here, but as far as I can tell one cannot sync Tasks/To Dos with Apple software. Yes, it is surprising that they would leave this out.
I use the free version of To Do (To Do Lite) from the App store, which suits my needs for now. It will only handle 10 items in the free version, but when you delete one, you get another added when you sync.
I mention it in Apps on my iPod touch. See the bottom comment from me.

  • Ical To Do list does not sync with my iPhone4 and Notes too.

    1) I am surprised Why my iphone 4 does not sync ical to do list with my iphone 4's calendar.
I want to write my to do list things on my iphone and macbook pro whichever is accessible at that point of time and later on they sync with each other.
i was using a Nokia communicator and it used to sync with "ical" as if they were made for each other. i used to update the nokia or my macbook pro and they use to sync with each other PERFECTLY later on.
I bought an iphone thinking it was an apple product and would sync "PERFECTLY" with my macbook pro.
    2) the notes i put up on my iphone also "DO NOT" show up on my macbook pro. So basically i have ended up buying a smartphone which is not so smart.
what i want to do is write my notes on my macbook pro and my iphone whichever is accessible at that point of time and later on they sync with each other.

ensure that your mail set up is checked for syncing note; your comment on the todo list is valid and i have been asking the same question for a while. ToDo also syncs on blackberry? I guess it shows that third party software is the kick that come corp's need to pick up their act.

  • Photos won't sync: "Cannot be displayed on your iPod"

Many of my photos will no longer sync from iTunes (Aperture photos) on my Macbook to my iPod Touch. For example, out of 250 photos, only 2 sync.
    iTunes says:
"Some of your photos, including the photo "xxxx.jpg", were not copied
to the iPod "Leo's iPod Touch" because they cannot be displayed on your iPod."
These same photos synced fine from iPhoto, but awhile ago I switched to Aperture. I also recently installed Lion.
Any idea what can be done to rectify this? Thanks.

Fixed, by deleting the iPod Photo Cache folders in both the iPhoto and Aperture libraries.

  • What is the best way to sync iCal, AdressBook, etc on several devices? (iMac, MacBook, iPad and iPhone)

I have several Apple devices (iMac, MacBook and iPhone) and I was wondering what is the best way to sync iCal, AdressBook, etc on these devices?
I have an iCloud acount as well, but how to sync without seeing enteries double (iCal)?
    Many thanks!

iCloud should not cause duplicate entries in Calendars unless you are syncing using iTunes as well as Wi-Fi. No need for both.
    iCloud backs up:
Purchased music, TV shows, apps, and books
Photos and video in the Camera Roll
    Device Settings
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Calendars

If your wireless environment is less than ideal, as it is in most inhabited areas, the influence of other wireless networks and devices competing for the same very small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum will affect your network's performance. Your own wireless network is a microcosm of that environment.
To mitigate the effects of competing wireless networks, use 5 GHz to the maximum practicable extent. It is comparatively free from interference contributed by other wireless devices and is likely to remain that way for some time. However, it is less tolerant of intervening obstructions and construction materials than the 2.4 GHz spectrum, so it's not a panacea. Every installation is different so you must experiment to determine the optimum configuration.
Place your wireless router (what kind is it?) in a central location, convenient to all the devices that require it. Most of the time a utility or ISP will locate it in some remote corner next to the utility service entrance. That is almost always the worst possible location.
Others find that only a direct wired Ethernet connection between router and devices will maintain uninterrupted access to Airplay.
That is almost certain to result in the best possible AirPlay performance. Short of having everything hard wired (it's not an option for the iPad for example) use an Ethernet connection for all the devices that lend themselves to that method. Your AppleTV is certainly one of them, since its location is not likely to change very often. Your AirPort Express should be another, since your audio systems are likely to stay put as well. Connect them both to your existing router, either directly or through an inexpensive Ethernet switch. Your problems are likely to be solved with just those two connections.

  • Does anyone know how to sync iCal with events from your iPod Touch?

So I use my iPod for events more than I do with my MacBook. However I'm trying to sync iCal on my computer with the events on my iPod yet I haven't found a method that actaully works.
Does anyone happen to know of an effective method where you can move events from your iPod to your MacBook?

Update your Mac OSX to 10.9.3, syncing locally is back.

  • Ask your question. How to sync ical 3 with icloud calendar

How to sync ical 3 with icloud calendar?

And the additional problem is that once you give in and go iCloud, no rep will tell you there are iCloud limits on iCal's size, so that if you're calendar is say 10 years old, with 10 events per day, and there's a 25K event limit, it won't work, even if you buy all the storage in the world. Which means that's syncing is OVER.
So far I've tried three calendar alts: Fantastical (rated one of the top iCal alts); Pocket Informant (allegedly capable of superpowers); and Calendars. Not a single one is able to do the one simple task of
    1) integrating an ical ics file,
    2) placing a calendar program on the desktop and the iPhone
    3) keeping them both in sync.
And Google's cloud has even more restrictions than iCloud, and for frack's sake why can't I keep a calendar off the net?
This is really getting to annoy me. Chelsea, a tech support supervisor, offered that if I pay $99/year I can become a developer and get the next beta iTunes which will allegedly offer local syncing. Great.

  • I have a problem syncing iCal on my Macbook air (10.7.5) and my iPhone 4s (5.1.1) over iCloud. The following server error message comes up "The request (CalDAVAccountRefreshQueueableOperation) for account "iCloud" failed." Been to Apple - no luck. Ideas?

I have a problem syncing iCal on my Macbook air (10.7.5) and my iPhone 4s (5.1.1) over iCloud. The following server error message comes up "The request (CalDAVAccountRefreshQueueableOperation) for account “iCloud” failed." Been to Apple Store - no luck instore, or with Super genius over the phone when with genius in store, taking data in real time via ethernet!
I had to do a full wipe of my system because of time machine back up issues 2 weeks ago, and the error has only occured at some point since then. I only did a drag and drop of my user account folders/files into an External HDD rather than a copy of my user account (advised by the staff in store at Apple to do this) and when reimported, the Mail folders are all present but each message is in a sub-sub-sub folder that is numerically named. I do not have a mirror image of the hard disk prior to the wipe, only a time machine back up from 2 weeks prior to it being done. I am uncertain if this reinstall has caused the issue.
I am not happy to upgrade the software in my iPhone until I have the calendars working. I have purchased Mountain Lion, but again am concerned about upgrading until the issues are sorted.
I have tried the other solutions on here with no luck. HELP please.
    Many Thanks.

    Progress Update.
I made a back of what existing phtos and Videos I had on my Iplhone.  I used Image capture to do this making an entire back up of photos and videoa that were still intact on the phone.
Image capture is god for this purpose, as it does exactly what you ask it to do without applying any rules or squishing the files back into iphote (which might also be corupted)
Image capture wil do the basic function of retriving the contents of the phone and save them as native files on your hard drive.
Once I did this I erased my iphone, and re intitialised it restoring an older back up from icloud.
As the retore was happneing - I did retreive the missing files that cuased the intial beviour as above, and I could play the videos that were missing in the above scenerio.  The wierd ting was however that even though the source files were now back on the device, the thumbnail previews were missing. Where I ahd balck thumb nails for server portions of the resotred content.
I then went to bed as the restore is a long process.  When I woke up the library had library had cleaned itself up.  Mysteriously the prcess had deleted the files missing the their thumbnails.
This is very perculiar and bad behavior.
I am now repeating the process, and will attempt to download the missing content as it is restored and prior to the phone trying to fix itself.
    Here are the lessons learned.
DO NOT rely on Photo Stream to keep back ups and synchornise videos from you IOS device. IT DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS CAPBILITY
DO NOT rely on iCloud Back Up alone - always fd an occassional iTunes back up or more reliably still always take a back up of photos and video files using Image Capture to be doubly sure that you a have backd up any content.
DO THIS NOW - dont wait to loose your phone ofr have your phone repaired by replacement at the apple Store.  (I did both :-(

  • How do I sync iCal on my mac with OS 8 devices

How do I sync iCal on my mac with OS 8 devices

    Hi jgiolma,
Since you do not mention what version of the Mac operating system you are running on your MacBook Pro it is a little hard to answer your question. For computers running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 or later one way to sync your calendars would be to use iCloud. See this article for minimum system requirements for iCloud -
    System requirements for iCloud
Information on using iCloud for your calendars can be found here -

iCloud: Using iCloud Calendars with Calendar and iCal

  • How do i sync ical with google calendar, in that direction

i have google cal and ical syncset up but it was set up by google telling what to enter into ical. this made my other calendars, all the google calendars i have other than the main one, into "delegates" on ical.
whats the reason or process for this? cant they just been normal calendars on ical?
the reason i ask is that i have a menu pull down app which seems to only read "normal" calendars and not delegated calendars...
can i sync ical to google cal but enter details into ical to sync with google rather than the other way round?

So if I make calendar entry in my iphone it syncs to my mac ical but not icloud.
If everything is set to use iCloud then it's impossible for data to get from the iPhone to the mac but not iCloud, since all the data actually resides on iCloud and is read from there by devices. It rather sounds as if you have some syncing going on iTunes. If you look at the calendar listing on your Mac and Phone they must be listed under iCloud, not 'On My Mac/iPhone' - is that the case?

  • I recently installed a new hard drive in a MacBook 2007 and then 10.6.3. I'd like to be able to Sync iCal to the calendars I have created on other devices (new iCloud account and an ME account). I can't upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 because the MacBook is 32bit

I recently installed a new hard drive in a MacBook 2007 and then 10.6.3. I'd like to be able to Sync iCal to the calendars I have created on other devices (new iCloud account and an ME account). I can't upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 because the MacBook is 32 bit. Just looking for a workaround as this is not a primary device.

You should update to the latest version of Snow Leopard, 10.6.8 - you can download it here; however it's still not compatible with iCloud and though you can connect to access your email you cannot access any other of iCloud's facilities.
However some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point. I've not tried it: use at your own discretion.
    To access the email:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
Are you sure you can't upgrade to Lion? It requires an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which you may well have, though it also needs 2GB RAM so you might need to add additional RAM (might not be worth it for what you want). The published specs don't mention 32 or 64 bit. You can buy Lion by ringing the Apple Store at the number at bottom left of this page.

  • Why is syncing ical not working with mobile me?

I have been having 2 macbook pros and a new imac sync ical, mail and address book.  The imac is on Lion, the laptops are 10.6.8.  They were syncing fine until a week or so ago.  Is this because the 2 are not Lion?  I am using mobileme, not yet switched to the cloud, mostly because not sure I want to use my 2 other uses of Lion on older laptops.  And I will have ot upgrade some software on them.  I need this calendar info to sync regularly!

Thank you for your interest in Adobe Flash Player. Unfortunately Apple does not allow Flash Player to be installed on iPhone or iPad.
May I add, this is the answer I get When I try to Download Adobe Flash Player
You get the message because that is exactly the situation. Apple has not allowed any Flash on iOS devices.
What site are you trying to see? Many sites now provide Flash alternatives. For example, if you want to listen to Pandora, instead of using the Flash on the Pandora website, instead you download the Pandora app for the iPad.
In the future, even if Apple wants to add Flash to the iPad, it won't be able to because Adobe will no longer be making it at all, for any mobile device:
    http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/11/adobe-kills-mobile-flash/
If you often go to sites that use a lot of Flash and they don't have an alternative, you should write to them and tell them to stop using Flash.

  • Reliability of Syncing iCal on different computers

I am wondering if anyone can comment on how reliable it is to Sync iCal info on 2 or 3 different computers over .Mac. One computer is running 10.4.2 and the other one 10.3.9. Even when things look like they are working fine, after a few days, something goes wrong and one of the compuers stops being able to Sync the iCal data or it never finishes or there are errors etc. It's usually the 10.4.2 that screws up. The Calendar being synced is a huge one, 5.7 mb, but that should not matter. I am beginning to wonder if the iCal syncing amongs different computers is really good enough for heavy duty use or is it just for light, home use.

    Hi Thomas,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
First, I think it is fair to say that iCal .Mac syncing was really designed for the single user with a couple of Macs. But that doesn't mean it can't work for something more robust. There are people who are doing as you are with no problem (but perhaps not with as much data). And there are folks reporting problems syncing between Tiger and Panther (makes sense to me). And other folks reporting problems syncing period.
If you had been following threads here, you'd see that there seems to be a problem sometimes with iCal and iSync so if that's in the picture (has to be for Panther) than perhaps that's part of your problem. See the thread for more info: Patricia W, "iCal "Unexpectedly" Quitting after iTunes 5.0.1 install" #29, 10:59am Sep 25, 2005 CDT
I know that doesn't answer your question, but know that some folks are doing what you want with no problem.
