Q10 Contacts Conundrum...

ok, so here's the story of my irritation.
my caller ids have completely befuddled me... some of my frequently called numbers are not turning up on my caller id when the calls come in.  for example, a couple of days ago, i was in touch with a friend regarding a meeting arrangement.  there were a few calls exchanged throughout the day.  funny thing is that some calls identified the caller and some calls from the same mobile number were not identified at all.  i am unsure if this has something to do with where my contacts reside, ie in work and personal.
speaking of bb balance, my contacts are in total disarray after upgrading to bb10 from my old bold 3.  on my old bb, i had all my contacts centralised in my outlook account at work, including all my personal contacts.  i also had my bb linked with facebook, linked in, etc.  with balance, i find now that my contacts now have multiple entries and are just all over the shop!  in fact, i fear that most my personal contacts are now filed as "work" and if i decided to leave my company tomorrow, i may lose all my contacts when it gets wiped of work data.  it doesn't help that i can't copy things from work environment into personal!
apart from that i must say this - I LOVE MY Q10!
any help and advice much appreciated.
thank you.
yours sincerely,
distressed

You should be able to specify which contact list to add to when you create a new contact. You can't transfer the contact from local to GMail. You'd need to create a new contact and make sure you select GMail as one of the contact lists to add it to.

  • Blackberry Q10 Contacts Issues

We are having some issues with the Blackberry Q10 contacts and how it merges contacts together.
All of the contacts needed in the phone are stored in an Exchange account. When we added the Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts, it added contacts from those accounts as well into the contact list. We do not need these contacts to be synced, but I didn’t see a way to add the accounts without having the contacts sync with the phone. The major problem we are having is that the phone is merging contacts of seemingly random people. It would merge people together with completely different names with seemingly no reason to merge together. This leads to various issues like the wrong picture showing up and the wrong name showing up while making and receiving calls.
In addition to wanting help with resolving this issue, I have a few relevant questions.
    1)      Is there any way to Unlink all of the contacts so we can quickly resolve the issue of random people being merged together?
    2)      Is there any way to have Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn accounts on the phone but without having their contacts/connections synced into the phone’s contact list?
    Thanks

As stated you can unlink them one by one. You can also remove Facebook, Twitter etc contacts from the phone book list. By swipping down from the top of the screen, then select settings. There you will see, show accounts in contact list. You can select off to remove Facebook, Twitter etc.
However if you have a contact in your phone book who is also one of your Facebook, Twitter etc etc friends, those contacts details will be linked together and as stated, you'll have to unlink them one by one.

  • BlackBerry Z10/Q10 - contacts stop synching or updating (both ways from device and MS Outlook)

    Hi folks,
Hopefully somebody can shed some light on this issue we are starting to see more and more at work.
Are users are connected to the BDS10 server.   When they activate the device they are using the Work Account option.
The issues are everything works excepts Contacts.   When they initially activate the device the contacts may or may not come over to device.   May or may not work accordingly with the updates from outlook and the device.   Then out of nowhere the synching and updating may stop.
I have tried everything i can think of with the user:
    moved contacts into a sub-folder
exported contacts to .csv and then re-import to possibly eliminate a bad entry
    delete and recreate the workspace
delete and readd on the BDS10 and then delete and recreate the workspace
guided the user to the old BB Article:
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do?noCount=true&externalId=KB10009&sliceId=2&cm...
Some databases failed to synchronize: Address book
If the above error occurs, please follow the below checklist
    1)  Ensure that at least one of the following fields for the contact is populated(not blank)
         First Name
         Last Name
         Company Name
    2)  Check that there are no special characters within the BlackBerry smartphone Address Book, IBM Lotus Notes address book, or Microsoft Outlook contact
    Special characters include: () # $ @ ! & % " - , ^ " ; ,
NOTE: these users have 800 or more contacts, one user has 3093 contacts!
NOTE: these users stated they NEVER had this problem with THEIR OLD BB DEVICES!
NOTE: our company is using MS Exchange 2003 ActiveSync in relation to user's mail store.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Outlook/BB contact syncing seems broken. I have around 50 contacts and it couldn't sync those properly either. i was getting duplicates each time the device was restarted.
The best way to sync contacts on a Z10/Q10 is to add the contacts directly to your mail box. I added all my contacts to me @live.com address book and my Q10 pulled those contacts just fine.

  • Q10 Contacts: bugs

Purchased a new Q10 and hooked it up to my home laptop to upload my contacts and calendar from Outlook.  Everything looked fine.  The next day, received a message to update the operation system software which I did.  After the update, my contacts linked together from Outlook, Facebook and LinkedIn.  However they also linked some contacts together that should not be linked.  In some cases merging the contacts together with different information.  I removed both Facebook and LinkedIn account and pushed my contacts back down for Outlook and deleted the "Local Contacts," however, that still did not stop my linking issue.  Any suggestions?

Hi, as I don't have a FB account active (as said - first action was to remove the app and restart), and since I created new contacts on the BBQ10 afterwards w/o any further interaction with any provider or account or anything for which I was not able to change any dates on BBQ10 until I re-added the Facebook app - I guess the topic is quite clear.
I cannot confirm that the issue appears solely on the FB item, as there are no FB items. One of the contacts I created was a fantasy name containing plenty of x and y and digits, so the likelyhood of this being an active FB account was too small (though impossible for me to double-check, as I don't have an account there).
A contact in BB is a contact. Yes, there might be automatic interlinkage with social networks, but this is exactly what I'm critizising, as long as this linkage is mandatory to be able to manipulate newly created contacts on BB.
    So to be more precise:
    1. Remove FB app, remove any accounts like for mail providers (Yahoo, GMX and others) and restart
    2. Create new contact in BBQ10 with birthday -> not showing up in calendar. Issue #1.
    3. Edit newly created contacts' birthday and save -> not saving. "old" entry remains. Issue #2.
    4. Adding FB app and edit newly created contacts' birthday and save -> saving. Still not showing up in calendar. Issue #1 remains, issue #2 gone. Which leads me to the fact that the birthdays are synchronized differently than the rest of the data, which can be changed with or w/o FB app on BB10. This is where I see a bug in CONTACTS app.
    Kind reards, rogemax

  • Q10 contacts not available to BMW Bluetooth system..............

I have a (roughly) four month old Q10.  When I originally paired it to my MINI Bluetooth system, it worked fine and my contacts were available in the MINI's display dialog.
A couple weeks ago, I added a Microsoft Hosted Exchange Server email account to the Q10's account list.  From that point forward (give or take) the only data displayed in the MINI's phone book display was the corresponding phone number for the contact.  No other data.
A couple days ago, I acquired a new BMW X5.  The MINI and BMW Bluetooth systems are very similar (both BMW systems) and I'm still experiencing the same problems.  Nothing but the phone number is displayed in the X5 dialog.
Anyone else have a similar experience?
    Thanks

I have made progress on my original issue, but it took some time to figure things out.
The problem on my Q10 started while it was still connected to the MINI that I was driving at the time.  After the software update that was downloaded to the device, around early September sometime, the MINI Bluetooth display began showing only numbers, no associated names.  Since I was about to trade the car, I ignored the problem.
I did try syncing the phone with BB Link on two different computers (one office, one home office), but only wound up with two duplicate contact lists on the device.
When I acquired the X5 on October 1st and paired the phone, same display issues.  So I contacted RIM tech support and spent about an hour sitting in the vehicle, trying different actions, to no avail.
Being kind of fed up with the problem, and all the time it was using up, I responded with the usual email message to the open case log with my usual "since you can't fix the problem, thanks for the brick" dialog.
RIM responded with a detailed message advising me to do a security wipe (after backing up of course) on the Q10, then add back my Microsoft Hosted Exchange email account credentials.
This fixed the problem.  I have not reentered some of my other email accounts, which I thought might have a negative effect.  Since most of my correspondence and calendar are on the Hosted Exchange account, I'm in pretty good shape and don't want to do anything to screw it up again.

  • Blackberry Q10 - Contacts frozen

It is quite strange that recently, probably post the last update of 10.2.1.2977 my Q10 has weird issues. I am unable to udpate any of my contacts nor add new ones. I have tried to look up solutions but the only one I find is that I should back up the phone & restore it. Battery pull out & hard reset etc is also tried,
I am not sure what data I would lose doing so and dont want to experiment with the same. Would like to know if anybody has had a similar issue and can help in resolving mine.

  • Problem with Q10 contacts, Help!!!

I have a problem with my contacts. I have setup a work space for my business email account. And somehow I lost most address information on both my Q10 and my email contacts. I never edited them before. That should not be lost, how could it happen? Is there a bug on Q10?
    Thanks so much in advance.

depending on what update you have but it is takes time for all info to show on this device. let it rest for some time and check later. if they are not there sync again and leave to think about. this used to be a huge problem with later software versions, with 10.2 it shall work more or less dynamically.

  • New Q10 Contacts Issue

    Hello Community,
I just starting using the newest BB Q10 SQN100-5 (from BB factory unlocked).
I am on the Bell Canada Network. Everything works perfect except the Contacts App.
My photos etc all transferred to my Q10, but not the contacts. When I go to the app I am reminded that I can "Add Accounts".
I skipped that, and tried the +button and input a test contact, but no matter what I try it won't save. I tried:
    - saving on local and SIM
    - rebooting
    - pulling out the battery
    - android to new BB file transfer app
I note that the system is updated according to the system settings and that the SIM card is new. I note that the OS is showing as official: 10.2.1.2977 according to the system settings.
Any suggestions or help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

How did you transfer your data? Sometimes the transfer process can muck things up a bit. Backup your photos to your PC and then do a Security Wipe of the device. The wipe can take a while so plug it in when you do the wipe.
When it's done, copy your photos back manually.

  • Q10 - Contacts not working properly

I just received a Q10 five days ago.  It is a corporate activation on BES10.  All my Outlook Exchange info has sync'd with the phone (e-mail, contacts, calendar) and, for the most part, the phone works well.
However, when I am in the phone application the Contacts list is empty.  If I want call a contact, I have to go to the Contacts application and make the call from there.  Also, Caller ID comes up with the number only, not the person's name in the Contacts list.  It pretty clear that the Phone App and the Contacts App are not talking to each other.
WhatsApp is also not working properly.  Contacts list is blank and I can't start a new chat, even from the Contacts App.
This problem is not unique to me as I have read about quite a few cases of the same on other threads and boards.
Is BlackBerry aware of and working on this problem?

Now I just discovered my Q10 does not support Telenav. I have used Telenav on my last two Bberrys all over Europe + America and am now feeling betrayed. Anyone have a suggestion?

  • Q10 Contact Problems

Since a few weeks I am using the Q10 and I must say that I'm terribly dissapointed. Which I never had with my Bold 9780.
The biggest issue for me are with contacts. First of all, when my contacts call me, I do not see their name. Only the number. Later on when I check my phonecalls, their names do show up but not with an incoming call from them.
Also, on my Bold 9780, I had a special tune installed for my BF. The tune is copied to the Q10 but it won't work when he calls me. Also, I do not see his name come up either.
Then, as a last, it won't remember any tune settings that I gave in. Like with whatsapp, it still beeps even though I turned off the beeps and only want LED.
Please help me before I'm going to throw it out of the window!
Never ever had any issues with my bold 9780 and now in 4 weeks, are so fed up with the Q10! I'm thinking of selling it and going back to the bold 9780!

  • How to keep Q10 contacts and calendar backed-up for low tech users

Dear Blackberry, i love my Q10, but i'm a bit perplexed, like others, you overlooked your Outlook sync customer segment. Is there a simpler way to keep my device contacts and calendar backed-up, until the promised simple outlook link is released please? From what i can tell, the "create new outlook profile" path is prohibitively complex, and the $24 software is getting slated in the reviews. Finally, you should be aware that I was sold the device by O2 in London with the words "Oh and Blackberry Link does everything you need and is really easy to use" Good luck giving us the Solutions we need today, today. Customers like me are pretty simple in our needs to understand

  • Q10 contacts and calendar syncronization

Using outlook account, syncronization of contacs and calendar by usb connection fails, with message at the end of the process "writing of the coomit on the device failed". It was not like this at the beginning. Computer and device software are updateted. All other usb options work fine, like sync images and music.Somebody knows how to solve it?

First I did a sync only for calendar and it went through. Then I did the sync for contacts only and got the same error, so the problem in my case is in the contacts. So I generate the BB link logs enabling it in the BB link but without the windows registry modification (I'm not that skilled). The Log has been created anyhow, I went through it and found the line "outgoing payload" (there was only one) where a problem with one contact was indicated. I cancelled the contact on the phone and on the computer and did the sync again, but I got the same error. So I created again the log and found another problem with another contact. After three times I realised that with each try a new error with a different contact was created (only one at a time). So the problem is not solved, calendar sync works fine if done separately, contacts sync doesn't work properly: contacts added on the phone are copied to the computer but any change on the computer is not written on the phone. Maybe the way is to cancel all the contacts on the device and redo the sync from scratch, but I do not know how to cancel the contacts on the device (other than one by one, I have more than 400....) and the risk is not to get the contacts back on the device never again.
    Bye and thanks again,
    Maurizio

  • How i can recover my reset Blackberry Q10 contacts since i have no backed up it..

HELP PLS Accidently i have lost my blackberry data , but i need my thousands contacts back, kindly help how i can i recover them.  I need a sincere help from this forum.  Regards Altaf Ahmad

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Restore requires a data source...if you did not backup, if you did not use an OTA email service and sync with your device, or if you did not sync via LINK to desktop Outlook, then you have allowed yourself to live a very risky existence.
BB devices, like all computing devices, suffer from any number of possible reasons that you could lose access to your data. If you do not take the steps (most of which are FREE btw), to protect your data, then the device cannot overcome that. And so now you learn a very painful lesson here -- "there are two kinds of computing device users: those who have lost data, and those who will". Backups, like insurance, are neither a reactive nor an optional activity.
    Sorry for your loss.

  • Blackberry Q10 - Deleting Duplicates in Contacts Folder

    Hello.
I have a Blackberry Q10.  In performing my first sync with my Blackberry Curve 9330, I ended up with many duplicate entries in my Q10 contacts file.  Is there a quick and easy way to eliminate these duplicate entries?
    Thank you for your help.

It is pretty easy. Restore all of the contacts to your phone. Change the contact storage to google. Log into Gmail and you can either merge or eliminate duplicates, leave your phone set to sync to google and never worry about it again.
with Verizon BUA or Cloud, you will run the risk of not all of your contacts being synced and or backed up to numbers within being mixed up to duplicates and triplicates.  Before you do anything though make sure they are actually duplicates as BUA/Cloud has a habit of making 3 contact entries for people with 3 numbers
